You can't imagine my disappointment when my cute roommate said he wanted to get King Kee with me after work and I heard him wrong. (wokka wokka wokka) The food is decent, the servers friendly, the location close to my downtown SF office, and it's nice to break up my non-stop trips to the nearby Thai place by popping in here every so often. I don't know that it's good enough to bring me back running; when I go back to visit SF it won't be on the top of my list. But it's fine. Seriously. If you're nearby and hungry, stop by. Ate here with a few friend and the food was relatively decent. We ordered the fried rice, the three BBQ plate with duck, roast pork, and cha siu, Chinese broccoli, and two other dishes that were Sezchuan spicy, the numbing kind. The food was just okay. The BBQ plate wasn't that good, the pork wasn't crispy enough, the duck felt a little over sauces, and the cha siu was just kind of boring. The fried rice and Chinese broccoli didn't stand out, and the other two dishes I didn't enjoy that much because I'm not a big fan of the numbing spiciness. This restaurant was a walking distance from our Hotel and the reviews where good so we went to try. They have a wide range of dishes to suit every customer. A decent spot for Chinese food near Union Square. My friend and I were grabbing drinks nearby and wanted to grab a quick bite to eat as we were getting hungry. We found this restaurant which was right around the corner from our location so we decided to check it out. We arrived around 9:15 pm on a Wed and the restaurant was mostly empty with a few patrons. It was late and we didn't want to eat too much, so we split a chicken with corn soup ($8.99) and a broccoli beef ($12.99). The soup was good but definitely seemed overpriced for how much they give you (it's meant to be shared by 2). The beef was slightly bland and not as tender as I would've liked, but it was a decently large portion with plenty of sauce, so I happily dumped all the sauce over my rice and ate that with the broccoli beef. Super convenient and modestly priced for SF. I ordered the chicken pan fried noodles and shrimp dumplings and it's delicious. Checked several reviews, based on some work training figure try this place out. The food was ok, I would not order off the lunch special menu, order from the direct menu, several options the must try for me was the pork shumai. The braised pork slices I would not order again, as well as the lunch special of general chicken with soup, white rice, steamed broccoli. Here is a break down of everything I sampled and how it fares from other chinese food spots in the area. The braised pork slices, similar to filipino version of lechon kawali, the pork was chewy, the skin was deep fried but not as crunchy. Flavor wise it was just ok, I would pass on this dish The pork shumai was excellent, tasted fresh, smaller then normal size shumai at other restaurants, biting down you get the juice of the dumpling which is the bonus, this dish is a must try The lunch special of generals chicken with white rice, steamed broccoli, and soup had its ups and downs. The big down was the generals chicken, tasted reheated not fresh batch, white rice was piping hot and fresh, steamed broccoli was also fresh has a snap when biting down, the soup was clear, diced green onions with egg floating throughout the bowl, out of this dish I would have the soup again, broccoli and the rice minus the general's chicken The venue itself had an upstairs and downstairs I believe the downstairs was meant for larger groups of 4 or more people, the restaurant was clean, bright and staff constantly walking around checking on if you need anything. Very rude from start to finish. Now I wanted to like them, prices were right, but from calling multiple times to make a to go order, to picking up, to getting it back and finding bugs, it was a horrible experience. Food I had (before I found the bug) was very bland. When trying to resolve the issue, no management, again multiple calls and talk to multiple people. I ended up going all the way back to the restaurant, making a scene, arguing when they tried to just refund shrimp, and finally 10 min later getting a full refund. definitely a first as I try to see some good, but I will definitely not be back here, there's many other options in the neighborhood, some in the same block. Classic Chinese with Cantonese, Shanghai, and Szechuan selections on the regular menu. The scallop dumplings were excellent. The scallop filling contains shrimp. There are three dumplings per order. The chicken mushroom pot stickers were very good with a sauce that contained more than soy sauce and chili oil. The pot stickers were eight per order (if I recall correctly). The salted egg yolk custard buns were phenomenal. They're custard-stuffed bao. They were delivered with steam rising from the buns. At first, they taste great. Then your taste buds catch up with the flavor sensations. They are not overly salty or sweet. They tasted so good, I asked for another order to go. The lo mai gai was superior! Two wraps per order. OMG! Is right for how delicious this food was. When presented with our dishes they offered us sauces for every dish with an amazing spicy sauce that tasted delicious. Not only was the food amazing but, the service was even better! Even when about to close they continued to let us order last minute. Grateful for amazing people like this. Offering some dim sum items, some standard entrees, rice, and noodle dishes, the fare looked fine and I decided to go with some standards: -Siu Mai: I had to throw these out as they tasted off. -Potstickers: These were fine, more like gyoza style, which makes me wonder if this restaurant is owned/shares a kitchen with Miyabiya. -Yang Chow Fried Rice: This was solid. plenty of shrimp, roast pork, veggies, and rice.
