One of my go-to restaurants in the Upper West Side, Land serves up Thai with a twist, at reasonable prices. It's innovative enough to stand out, but retains a traditional Thai bent, and celebrated Thai favorites like pad thai. My favorite is their drunken spaghetti noodle with chicken. It packs a mean flavor punch with sufficient heat, and is a different take on the standard drunken noodles you'll encounter around the city, but trust me, it is as good or even better. Their vegetable dumplings are also interesting in taste and texture, sweet and salty, and crunchy from the peanuts. Their pad thai used to be more on the sour side, which I liked, but upon a recent visit, I found it's more sweet. That's the only reason I didn't give this place 5 stars. You also can't leave here without trying their desserts. I'm a fan of the taro root custard, but just pick one. Any one will do! read more

Overall good, but some details... The service was not friendly. The rice was stale. My Curry Chicken was forgettable. The $9.95 Pomegranate Mojito was absolutely forgettable, too. Land is a quaint Thai restaurant in the heart of the upper west side; menu is not extensive, but there is definitely something for everyone. Pad Se Ew did not disappoint and the skirt steak was well-prepared and pretty tasty. Portions are on the smaller side and restaurant is very cozy, but not atypical for NYC. If you are looking for a quick and consistent thai meal in the neighborhood, Land is your spot. But, I'd probably opt for another place to carry out, based on menu/portion size. read more

Ordered from yelp online and the food came early. Unfortunately I wasn't super excited by the food. I ordered a chicken curry puff and a spicy drunken noodle with chicken and extra veggies. How I went this long without reviewing Land is beyond me because it's so good! Oh I know.....I wanted to keep the place a secret but the last time I went I realized the secret is out, so I might as well toss my 2 cents in. I've eaten everything except the salmon on the menu because I hate salmon. Here are my favorites: Green Papaya Salad- So spicy and so tasty and a huge portion for $6. Spicy Beef Salad- hotter than the papaya but also delish. Lemon grass soup- awesome in the winter, I could live on this stuff. Vegetable dumplings- also fantastic, the combo of the stuff they put in there is to die for. Mixed apps are the way to go if you have 2 or more ppl wanting to share apps. I usually order the rice/noodles or the wok specials. 1 because they are cheap and 2 because they are huge portions that I can eat for dinner one night and lunch the next. I love the jungle curry rice, the pad thai isn't the best I've had ever, but it's a good choice. The wok charred squid, solid. Who else has squid for $10? The green curry is good and hot, wok basil beef- delicious. The pad see ew is surprisingly sweet, melts in your mouth. Ok so I've hit on a lot of the menu, and everything is good, and now that everyone knows about it, just go. I'll just get takeout to avoid the insane lines! read more

The Spicy drunken noodles are my favorite, and have been keeping me warm on these cold winter nights. I also love their Pad Thai and Curry dishes. Great flavor and fresh ingredients. I've ordered take-out from here three times now and have finally settled on three stars. It is actually right between three and four...but alas...yelp seems to not listen to us when we complain about the rating system... The service is consistent, solid and thorough. They are kind and efficient on the phone and in person. I'm sure the table service is equally as good. Lunch is the best time of day for them...either take-out or eat-in. The prices are much, much better. They aren't over-priced by any means for dinner...but it is just shy of being too much. The spicy dishes are spicy. Really spicy. No....seriously. If you can't take it, you can order dishes with less spice...but for some dishes that also means less flavor. The Wok Basil with Beef will knock you over with spice. It is $%&#ing hot...but good. The vegetable dumplings are ok...nothing to write home about...though at least 27 people on here seemed inclined to do so. They are just not that impressive to me...just a little too gooey for my taste. The chicken wraps are not good. Imagine ground chicken (the same consistency of ground beef) and tomato sauce with iceberg lettuce and a few endives. Uh...nope...try again, Land. The food is good...but I've had a lot better Thai food in New York...and other places as well. Cards are accepted but Cash is preferred. They discount 10% for paying in cash. read more

Land Thai has the honor of having served me the spiciest drunken noodles I've ever eaten ever ever ever. Only two bites in, sweat beads dotted my upper lip and my nose started running uncontrollably. When your server asks, "Spicy okay?" beware!! :) It was delicous, though, and my Chang beer was nice as well when I wasn't guzzling water. I came here on a weekday night with a friend. The place is quite narrow and packed, but thankfully we didn't have to wait for a table. As for the food, their drunken noodles were VERY spicy! This is coming from someone who spent a good portion of her life in Korea, so you know it's serious. They were quite delicious and flavorful overall nonetheless. I really liked their lychee margarita as well; light, fruity yet not too strong. My experience would've been more satisfying if they hadn't rushed us so much, but it was understandable since they seemed rather busy the whole time. A good friend of mine lives on the upper west and this is one of his favorite places to go for thai food nearby. The food is good and not expensive at all. I had steamed dumplings to start and then the generic but delicious pad thai for my main. The decor is perfect, simple, and unobtrusive. They have an incredible sink in their bathroom too - it is the little things that stick with me- ha! I would def. go back soon. read more

I've been on a Thai kick lately. For whatever reason, moving into a new apartment makes me crave curries and sticky rice. Land delivered in phenomenal form. I actually haven't been here yet for a sit-down meal, though the restaurant always looks busy whenever I come in to pick up my take-out and the wait staff seem decently attentive (the place is so small it is safe to assume that 4 waiters over 12 tables means at the very least decent customer service!!) The food is so good though that I would still want it even if the waitstaff was horrible and the restaurant unattractive and slow (which they're not :) ). Hands down the best Thai I've had in the city. Their meat is always perfectly cooked in the curries and their sticky rice is scrumptious. I will be coming back here at least once a week, if not more, until my Thai craving subsides!!! If only they delivered at my new address! Alas, I live too far away :( read more

Wow... waaaay up town. This is far for me people! Truth is I had a good time. It felt like I was visiting boston! :-) This restaurant is pretty tasty food. It's tough in the winter though as there's no waiting area, and the entrance is constantly opening and closing. But the noodles were good, and the service was friendly. Per regulation, they have the quintessential thai bathroom, complete with house music, and flowing fountains. I love how consistent Thai restaurants are about this point. read more

Land is great I will travel from Jersey City to UWS to feast on their delectable's. Huge fan of the mixed appetizers which features the dumplings, shrimp parcels and curry puffs. I usually get the snapper which is so tender and seasoned just right but it a was a little more that I was hungry for the other night. I opted for the Pad See Ew with beef, I have never had it here and it did not disappoint. The food and service is always consistent and reliable you can't go wrong. I think I've found my new go-to on the upper west side! Went here late on a Friday, about 8 o clock, and we waited about two minutes before getting a table. I can imagine the wait gets pretty long though because this place is tiny (one of those hallway type of restaurants where you might accidentally elbow the person next to you. The prices were pretty good. Pad thai = $14. Appetizer sampler = $9 dollars. We also had the green curry, which was really good. All of the ingredients were of good quality and tasted fresh. A very tiny place from the outside of. Amsterdam Ave, with even a smaller sign, that you can easily miss of you were not specifically looking for this restaurant. There was a 40 min. wait when I showed up, so hoped it had to be good. On the positive they did tell me that reservations do get cancelled so would call me and call me they did within 15 minutes. the me u is pretty decent and their are enough pictures posted in yelp for you to decide what looks appealing! we ordered an ice thai tea which comes in an urn shaped container, and I did check for ashes!! the puff pastries were very well done and so was the main dishes, basil beef and Thai green curry. The quantity of the green curry was plentiful and even with two of us attacking it, we still had leftovers. probably the most interesting game dish was the coconut creme Brule (thai version) wasn't the best, but most interesting creme Brule I have had. You have to be an extraordinarily picky person to not enjoy yourself at Land. I was lucky enough to live ten blocks away, back when I could afford it, so I would frequent the joint. It's worth the wait, every time, if only for the dumplings. My cousin, a chef mind you, wrote down everything in the dumplings so she could try and re-create them at home in Florida. I haven't heard back about her experiment, but she liked them *that* much. The Thai Iced Coffee/Tea is succulent and comes in a (sort of corny) coconut like cup (bowl?) that enhances your attempt at an authentic Thai experience. And when they say spicy, they MEAN IT. Why would you want it any other way? They can make it mild, just ask! If you're in the area and they'll deliver to you, you'll get your food in like, ten minutes. Swear. to. god. Okay, now, go get that Drunken Noodle! P.S. -- For those of you saying the portions are small, try and get out of America once and awhile. There's at least 600 calories on that plate and I doubt any of us need any more. read more

I have many good memories here - drinking sake and eating enormous portions of great food on the UWS. It is so small that you can't help having a intimate (read: cramped) experience, but it's also why there are always lines of people waiting to eat here. The drawbacks here will never stop me from coming anyway. Its prices reflect the standards of 80th and Amsterdam, but the helpings that they serve combined with its great taste make most of the dishes worth it. They don't take reservations, but the wait will never be that long. And plus, this food should really be enjoyed in its atmosphere - enhanced by the relatively laid-back nature of the 80s neighborhood. This place doesn't deserve a takeout experience. Land is a great place to go if you don't mind being slightly crowded for your meal. The dining room is composed of mostly tables for two (which they push together to accomodate larger parties) set in one line against a wall. There's outdoor seating in warm weather, which provides you with some more space for conversation. Although crowded, the seating arrangement never bothered me as I have never gone here anticipating a need for privacy- just for delicious food, which they always deliver on. I've been here twice and both times have started with the mixed appetizers- a tasty combination of shrimp parcels, chicken curry puffs and vegetable dumplings. A great option if you can't select just one item, and perfectly portioned for two people to share- although it takes some taste testing to figure out which sauce goes with which item, as the presentation doesn't suggest the combinations for you. The green curry with chicken is exceptionally good; they give you enough that I always have some left over to take home. I've tried the pad thai and thought it was a bit too sweet for my taste, but my boyfriend liked it. At $10-13 I really can't complain that much. My only criticism is about the service. Don't get me wrong- the staff is always exceptionally friendly. But both times that we have come here our server stared at us in disbelief and asked if we were sure when my boyfriend tried to order a bottle of sake. It's listed as by the glass or bottle on their drink menu, so what's the problem? On our most recent visit our server even brought over the bottle and asked us if we were sure that was what we wanted. We replied "yes", and she asked us again if we were sure. At that point we felt uncomfortable and confused, so we told her to forget it and ordered wine instead. I would come back, but wouldn't attempt to order sake again. Come prepared to wait, but they take down your name and cell phone number so you can nip into the Dead Poet next door for a beer until your table is ready. read more

The seating here is cramped. There were many open tables, but we had to wait 5 minutes to be seated because the hostess was calling people off a waiting list. Why is there a waiting list when 75 percent of the tables are empty? That being said, the service after being seated was excellent. They filled water cups constantly and asked if everything was ok. The food, was definitely not the star of the show. 4 bucks for Thai Iced Tea? This might be forgivable if there weren't over 9000 Thai joints in Hell's Kitchen serving it for $2.50 to $3.00. My date ordered a Pad Thai and wanted Haagen-Daz ice cream after dinner. The Pad Thai was so sweet that we joked that she ate her dessert as her entree at dinner. The drunken noodles were over seasoned, and not balanced at all. There was just heat heat and heat to them. Overall, the meal was 3 stars for the low price. There are so many delicious places to eat in Manhattan. Go down 20 blocks and walk into a random restaurant - there is a 50 percent chance it will be a good Thai place. read more

So I should preface this by saying that I don't actually live in NY anymore. But whenever I do go to NY, I have a routine. I take the train in, I get in the car of whoever is picking me up, call in Land, and pick it up on the way home. Sometimes I'll even repeat as I'm heading out of town. Some people's comfort food is fried chicken, mine is pad see ew with tofu and vegetables. A few tips: 1. Spicy = Thai Spicy (usually). Make sure to clarify if you can't handle it. 2. This is pretty American Thai/street food Thai. But it's good. 3. It always seems to taste better on weekends. I don't know why. 4. Go for lunch. Seriously, it's one of the best deals around. Sure, you can get cheaper lunch specials in Hell's Kitchen, but Land is my favorite. I will say Land can be hit or miss, which I don't like in a restaurant. It should always be a hit. Really really really good food! Prix fixe order was delicious, I got the wok vegetable medley and added beef then I got the Land salad. Great deal and really flavorful food! They give a lot of rice for the order, my only complaint would be that the wok medley was a little smaller than I expected. Could this eatery possibly have the best calamari I've ever tried? The answer would be 'YES"! Lightly battered with a nice crunchy exterior. I also liked the fact the calamari itself was fresh. A nice, thick, sweet yet mild hot sauce for dipping. I've had way too many sub-par calamari and watered-down chili sauces at Thai restaurants. A yummy appetizer to start the meal. Entree of Jungle curry with steamed tofu was very delicious. Decent portion size, so that left room in my stomach for dessert. Durian lovers, don't miss the durian gelato on the dessert menu. I went last night! The service was a little slow to start, but that was fine since the food was out shortly after we ordered. LAND has an amazing martini selection, and I would love to sample each. My partner got a Plum Sake Martini and I got their Pomegranate Mohito. Both made the evening start of wonderfully. The food was not only brought out quickly, but had a lovely presentation. The spice was hot without being overpowering. I certainly plan to go to LAND and order much more from them in the future. This is a great place to go to before a show, as you won't be worried about making it to your seat, but will feel like you enjoyed a solid meal. AND THE BEST PART? It is completely affordable! I came here right after the Guggenheim with a group of 5 other people. We were seated almost immediately. The food came pretty damn fast and it was amazing. It was really good- really light, but tasty and yum ahh i want it NOW. Thai food here is a lot better than some other places I've been to. I'm obsessed with Thai food. If I could, it would be all I eat. And this place was GOOD. And it is pricey, but I didn't pay, so no problem for me! And the iced tea came in like a flowering pot, ceramics thing. Hi, Land is a place in my neighborhood. I believe they own the space on at least one side of their restaurant, which is another theme restaurant that changes every two years or so (it was Mexican for a while). This review is of Land Thai. The place has been in the neighborhood for many years and is a "go to" Thai, especially before more restaurants opened on Amsterdam. I have never had a good experience at Land. It is always crowded, the food is poor. The worst is the delivery, which always takes forever. And the staff is rude. The last time I ordered from Land, there was a fly in my "shrimp parcels". I even took a picture, I'll try to attach it. This place should be avoided, and this review is fair and objective. I wonder what their health department rating is, I'll check the next time I walk by.
