Hayden was a great waitress. It's a great spot. The outdoor, covered, heating seating is greatly appreciated. Why three stars? I made the reservation and said that it was for a special occasion (recent engagement). Not one word said about it. So, why is this asked when I make the reservation! Soup served cold, but my fiancé didn't want me to make a big deal about it. I am regretfully giving Larkin's a mediocre review because despite the reputation, the actual experience left a bit to be desired. The biggest disappointment was in how our party was treated. Despite having made reservations a week in advance, when we arrived, we were walked through the interior white tablecloth dining area and out to what in good weather would be an open-air deck area, but which in December was just a concrete-floor room with metal patio furniture and plastic windows and space heaters to ward off the December chill. To top it off, our table was not even ready (unlike the numerous interior dining area tables we were walked past and had to be hurriedly cobbled together by the staff. We found the food to be inconsistent. Several of us ordered Ceasar Salads and found them to lack the usual "tang" that the salad is noted for. Some ordered the chicken breast with broccolini and were disappointed to get a plate full of rice with a small piece of chicken and ONE stalk of broccolini. One he plus side, the short rib entree was excellent. Another staffing issue was with the wine we ordered--after a long wait, the sommelier came with another bottle and told us the wine we ordered from their menu was not available. But instead of asking our preference for a replacement we were presented with a replacement that Larkin selected. We felt awkward in rejecting the replacement but would have preferred being given the option in advance to pick our own replacement or to not order wine at all. To us, the kicker was that after our disappointing meal in their "winterized" outdoor seating, we walked back through the very welcoming indoor dining room and past the same empty tables that would have seated us. If Larkin's wanted to tell us to not bother coming back, this was a great way to do so. There are better options for enjoyable dining in downtown Greenville. read more

I was here for a large business dinner (60+) and we used the event space. Appetizers - Egg Roll, Crab Cakes and Fried Macaroni & Cheese - that were brought around during meet & greet were the highlight IMO. Once we were seated and ordered from our event menu, bread was brought to the tables but no bread plates. When something was said, some tables got plates but others including mine did not. My first course was She Crab Soup that was pretty good, I was then able to use the saucer from my soup as a bread plate. My main course was the Filet Mignon, Mashed Potatoes & Asparagus. Since they didn't ask about how we wanted the steak prepared, I assumed they would all be the same which would have been acceptable. Unfortunately there were significant differences. Mine was rare (essentially inedible for my taste, I should have sent it back but didn't), my co-worker next to me seemed to have one prepared medium to medium-well which is what I expected. I cut off the outside layer that was actually cooked to eat and left a large chunk of raw meat on the plate. The mashed potatoes were pretty pedestrian but edible. Asparagus is not something to my taste so I have no idea about it. I skipped dessert but everyone's Chocolate Cake, Creme Brulee and Cheesecake looked good. The event organizer from our company was at my table as well and she seem very unhappy with the overall experience as well. I doubt we will set up another event here based on her reaction and would not advise anyone else to do so based on my experience. Most of the reviews of the smaller parties seem to be good, so it might be worth it for a date night. Since I don't live in the area that will likely not ever be an opportunity for me to try. read more

Had a wedding at the L venue, (Larkin's venue with their catering) it was great up until wedding day... we told them no pork 6 months in advance and they put pork on one of the sides, had a bartender call out with no replacement, and they ran out of one of the alcohols after repeatedly stating "we've never ran out before". After we called the "executive" John the week after the event, he said he would look in to it and two weeks later he has never responded. We paid for the extras and their response was, "we'll solve it internally"... how can you take money for something you didn't provide or fix?! Ownership needs to step up. Will never use this company again, or go to the restaurant, unless they own up to their mistakes. Once they have their money they don't care. read more

Went to Larkin's in Campertown last night after dinner. Had to try the She Crab soup. We have not visited this new restaurant after they moved from their old location next to Reedy Creek. We were not disappointed after meeting Tyler our bartender & server! He went out of his way to make my wife & I comfortable outside. We could have not received better service anywhere else and he represented this long time Greenville restaurant well! The soup is 5 Stars and his service also a 5. I've been here three times in the three years I've lived in Greenville, and this review is about my third and latest visit. We chose Larkin's for a celebration lunch on a Monday, when other higher end options were unavailable. We each had a delicious she crab soup, which was very thick and full of crab meat. I recommend this soup! We also shared the crab cake and deviled egg appetizer. Presentation was beautiful but flavor was lacking. The dish was very cold, which may have diminished flavor - serving this at room temperature (or in warmer weather, we were here on a cold December day) may well make a difference. I had the steak salad with warm bacon dressing. It was fine, but I wanted more acid, and the dressing was very sweet, too sweet for my taste. My husband also had a salad, arugula and one or two other greens with lots of bacon, and he liked his salad better than I did mine. We were there for a birthday, so Larkin's offered us a free dessert to celebrate. Our server, who was excellent, inquired in advance about our choice between the cheesecake or créme brulée, so that she could take the cheesecake out of refrigeration and serve it at room temperature, as, she said, this makes a huge difference in flavor. It was indeed very delicious, with an Oreo crust and a berry glaze on top, garnished with fresh berries and whipped cream. Delicious! Since this was a celebration lunch, we each had wine, and enjoyed the wine list, which had a number of selections we knew and could happily choose from, and also offered a range of prices from $6-9/glass. Our server was outstanding. The meal itself was probably between 3-4 stars, but with such excellent service, it is easy to round up to 4 stars. Comments about our prior visits: we had Sunday brunch on the patio, which was nice with a view of Reedy River. I felt the price exceeded the value on the food, though. On another visit, we just stopped at the bar for a drink, which was fine, but the bar is very tiny, and flanks the path in and out of the dining area, so it's not a great place to hang out and have a drink. read more

In addition, I had the apple cake dessert with cinnamon ice cream and I was scrunching my toes in my shoes because it was so good. Have been many times for dinners and brunches. Went again Easter Sunday for a menu only late lunch. Larkin's is always on it. Between the best food and the old mill interior, it's my fav high end place in GVL. They offered HUGE jumbo shrimp and special deviled eggs with lump crab and bacon. Great classic and craft cocktail on menu as well. You cannot come here and not get a steak. We had a medium rare fillet and the sea bass to do a surf and turf sharing. Totally blown away with this place. So, my husband & I decided to go on a last minute date on Sunday night. Larkin's fit us right in & the rest is history. My only complaint was we were seated in the outside patio, which had been covered & had heaters, however, whenever the wind blew, we were frozen. FYI, it was a windy evening. Anyway, the food was delicious. We chose the restaurant week menu, which consisted of 3 courses. We had salads as our starter I chose the NY strip & hubby chose the trout as our main. Finally, we had the chocolate torte & creme brûlée for dessert. The salads were basic, however, hubby had the beet salad. I have to admit, not really a beet person, but that salad really packed flavor. My NY strip was seasoned to perfection. It came with mashed potatoes & asparagus. The asparagus lacked, some seasoning, but was overall good. The trout was served with spinach & a caper sauce. The trout had a perfectly crisp skin & the caper sauce paired nicely. My creme brûlée was basic & the chocolate torte was chocolatey, lol. Overall, everything was great & I do highly recommend, however, avoid sitting in the patio, but if necessary, don't sit near the fake "wall" if it's cold. Otherwise you'll freeze. read more

A little hidden from the street but definitely a great view being right on the river. Sat outside and enjoyed a wedding at the event space just outside of the restaurant. The food was average needed more flavor, over priced for the quality. Drinks were pretty good. Our server was very nice & had great recommendations. A pigeon was sitting on the light fixture directly above me which was unsettling while trying to enjoy food. The food runner was kind enough to try to get it out but it was admit about being above me :( but being outside those things can happen. I could NOT give it five stars because they should know better and do better - they are sitting on a lovely jewel box but it does not live up to the recommendation or potential. Bread was crusty and nice Drinks - well made and thought out - I was happy there Food - OK - here is my gripe - I am happy to pay for good food - you can see prices online and you know what you are getting into - so expectations come with that. The food quite simply did not live up to expectations. The menu did, the concept did, but the execution did not - Oysters - Had to ask the type - they didn't know - the answer - East Coast....Hmmm - Big place the east coast.....we passed. Went with the Rockefeller - They were prepared right, all the right stuff - but you know - they were not creamy and steaming hot as you would expect - they were a little lukewarm.....and they were dense - all the ingredients fused together - like it came out of a microwave - I am not saying that for sure - but it seemed like it..... - Scallops wrapped in bacon - 20 bucks for 3 - they better be SPOT ON - they were not - these came out of a microwave or they were prepared ahead of time and left in the oven for way too long - again - dense.....chewy - Conch Fritters - FAN - DAMN - TASTIC - These were fresh....well prepared with really nice reumelade Ceased Salad - Gross - Olive Garden variety - but hey - it was eleven bucks - it was not well prepared. - Snapper - Overcooked - crusted, not fresh.....sad - it could have been so good - Mahi with crabmeat - it was pretty good. Overall - we got out of there for 300 bucks for the 2 of us. I am HAPPY to pay it if it is lovely food. It's a lovely place for sure and the staff is great - but not lovely food. My husband and I only stayed in Greenville one night on our way to Asheville. I made a reservation on Open Table for 1:30 pm just 45 minutes before we arrived. We sat at a wonderful table 2 top table on the patio. The weather was perfect! My husband ordered the braised shirt rib cottage pie. He loved it...but wasn't able to he finish it! I ordered the seared tuna sandwich (without the bread) and explained I was on a strict diet. The seared tuna was wonderful and on a bed of seaweed which I thought I would not enjoy but absolutely loved and would order again! I teased my waiter that he brought my seared tuna with a side of potato chips -- we both laughed... Any he offered a healthy side option and I agreed ...he immediately brought fresh grilled zucchini ,peppers and summer squash. It was unbelievable! Highly recommend this restaurant especially if you only have time for ONE lunch. read more

We went here to celebrate at dear friend's END of cancer treatment-5 years a SURVIVOR- and her 70th birthday, as well! We added an extra guest at the last minute and the restaurant accommodated our change with no problems! When our "crew " goes out for dinner, we "graze" with a variety of small plates or appetizers. Larkin's has an appetizer platter they will customize for your group, priced according to the number in the party. The servings of each selection were generous and filling. the new setting is fantastic. the food was overpriced for what you get. we ordered a flat iron steak, salmon and a salad to split. the steak was over cooked to the point of being in edible. the salad was average at best. salmon was ok but there's a lot of places you can get eat better salmon for less. seating us very crowded. we had surrounding tables right on top of us. very little room between tables. service was good. our waitress did a great job. parking is a challenge in this area. once you pay for parking and your restaurant bill you are probably in for $200+ a couple. we were close to $260 with our bill and we didn't even have desert. parking can run $10-$20 in the area. read more

Larkins is the worst place to have a wedding reception. They ran out of limes, lemons and tequila right away after they require payment up front. The air did not work all night and it was 80 degrees outside but it was cooler than in the venue since the air conditioning did not work all night. Before you spend your money for the perfect night reconsider using this venue. They will call the cops line they did last weekend 2 hours early. read more

Read mixed reviews but had a good experience ourselves. Great ribeye, wife got a fish dish. Both were great. Steak is pricey, but good. Sides about $10 to $12 each and suitable for sharing. Service was very good and attentive. Ate about 6, and it got crowded but we beat the rush. Booths are a little tight and awkward so go for a table if you have the choice. Long and exclusive bourbon menu, but a two oz pour for EH Taylor over $100 was steep, regardless of rarity. So, nice for a treat or special occasion but not for everyday fare. read more

My husband and I went to Larkin's for our Anniversary. We were in for several bad surprises unbeknownst to us. First of all, they've moved and we were confused as to where to go in. This inside is very different....gone is the cozy/romantic atmosphere and the scenery of the waterfall. Now it's very bright, no privacy and all you can see is a liquor store. When we were seated, we had to move the table so we could get into the chairs and neither one of us is overweight. The prices are higher also. I ordered my all time fave from there which was the Chilean Sea Bass and my husband had a steak. Food came out relatively quickly which was nice but when my plate was set in front of me, there was a distinct and very strong smell which I found out was coming from the green things on my bass. I immediately took them off and put them as far away from me as I could. When I took a bite, I almost threw up! The fish tasted EXACTLY like those horrible smelling green things!! I asked the waitress if she could bring one that didn't have them on the fish and she did but one bite and I almost threw up again! Apparently, they were just scraped off but left the nasty taste still on there. At this point, I was done and could not eat. My husbands steak tasted like the grill hasn't been cleaned in a while. I assured the waitress that we weren't mad with her and that it wasn't her fault because she looked so worried. Anyway, what was once an amazing experience is now terrible. I don't know why they changed the recipe on the bass but I absolutely hated it. We will not be returning. Oh and one more thing.... They used to bring out a dessert with Happy Anniversary written in chocolate on the plate but they don't do that anymore. So disappointed read more

Went there for a quick lunch. The She Crab soup was phenomenal, however their Caesar salad is not what I expected. It was topped with chives and the dressing was a bit oily. Otherwise the atmosphere was nice, they had tall ceilings, modern art, and a nice interior. I would be willing to try again but this time for a dinner entree. read more

I saw great reviews about Larking online and we decided to try it for lunch today. We started off with the calamari. It came with a finger licking basil-lime aioli that I could put on pretty much anything. The burger was great too but the big shocker of the day was the chicken-Brie melt. Idk what I was expecting but it wasn't what I got and I say this in a good way. It was an open faced chicken goodness that I would order again in a heartbeat. It was an awesome way to sit for a spell after searching for the waterfall. The She crab soup and the filet were simply amazing. The ambiance was nice too and the service make this place stand out from the crowd. The Bad... Was a little hard to actually find the door to this place. If you're not from Greenville, you may miss the entrance for a second but then hit yourself upside the head when you find the gates to tummy heaven. ~The Expialidocious~ For the take home foodies, looking for a groovy movie to go with this dining experience, I would pair it with a marvel movie....because you will have a marvelous time;-) And some mouthwash to clean up the bad taste from that last joke. I truly hate to leave a less than favorable review during covid. I understand the hardships restaurants and the hospitality industry are facing. But after dining with my family at Larkin's, I would suggest going to another of Greenville's excellent restaurants. We were seated just after noon on a Tuesday. There were a handful of other tables filled. We waited nearly an hour for any food, despite asking about our appetizers and being told they would be right out. Our table of 5 ordered fries and she crap soup for appetizers and 4 salads and one sandwich for the main course - all seemingly fairly quick items. Several tables seated after us received food before we did. We also had to ask several times for simple things, like more water. The waitress had several tables - perhaps an issue with staffing was to blame. By the time the food came, minus the she crap soup, we were all ready to go. The food was fine - but not the experience we expected and not worth the wait or price. read more

Our first meal out since the start of COVID and Larkin's did not disappoint! We were in town visiting a friend and had never been. All precautions for health and safety were properly attended to - spacing between tables, mask wearing, etc. We felt safe and welcomed. Started with scallops, which were seared perfectly. The Chilean Sea Bass is easily in the top 10 meals I've ever had at a restaurant. I savored every bite. We ended our meal with a slice of tres leches cake or their rendition of tres leches with a raspberry glaze layer. So good!
