Monterey Park isn't known for its Korean food so these restaurants are far and few. But little gem is hidden on the edge of a large strip mall off of Atlantic. Upon entering , it didn't feel like a Korean restaurant but once you sat down and saw the menu, it was pretty clear. We opted to get the #11 - BBQ short ribs, rice and tofu soup. They give you a choice of about 10 different types of tofu soup. I picked seafood beef tofu. The first course of kimchee, salad, dried fish and more cane rather quickly. Next the soup and then the bbq. I think it took less than 15 minutes for everything to be brought to our table. Everything was fresh and tasty, just like any Korean restaurant in K-Town. I didn't find anything wrong with the food and the service was excellent. Very attentive, but had to ask for more napkins. The bathrooms were located down the hallway, passing the kitchen on the right. Clean but on your walk, you could see right into the kitchen. Went here for the first time and got the spicy rice cakes ($15) and added cheese for $2 extra. It was different than what I'm used to because the sauce was really thin and felt more like a soup... the flavors were pretty solid and it wasn't too spicy. It came with fish cakes, cabbage, and carrots, which I've never seen before lol. The rice cakes were fat and chewy! The workers were friendly and the space was clean. Their banchan consisted of bean sprouts (bland), kimchi (also bland, it tasted like it hadn't been marinated long enough), spicy cucumbers (delicious), pickled veggies, and a salad (the dressing was really tasty). Lee's tofu has been a staple in the community. Growing up here meant after basketball games or just hanging out with your friends here. I got the Bulgogi Combo with Seafood Beef Soup (mild), we were playing pickleball after so I didn't want to burn a hole in my stomach. The flavors were rich and perfectly balanced. The Kimbap was fresh and delicious, we were craving it. The highlight, however, was the exceptional banchans. The cucumbers they provided were a refreshing twist, and the overall selection was impressive. Visiting on a Wednesday meant the restaurant wasn't too crowded, allowing for a relaxed atmosphere. The service was incredibly friendly and efficient, making the entire experience even more enjoyable. I'll definitely be returning to Lee's Tofu for another fantastic meal! read more

I use to come to their old location before they transferred to this current spot. I'm so grateful that they stayed nearby because sometimes I crave Korean. This place is awesome. The food is great, the interior is super comfy, and the owners and staff are all super friendly and hospitable. They're a super welcoming mom and pop establishment. It's a super reliable place for us to get our fix of Korean food near us. Granted, due to the pandemic, it seems like they don't seem to be getting too much business. Additionally, they are located at a completely isolated location in a dead part of the strip mall, and aren't easily visible from the main road or the other lively side of the strip mall. COVID-19: Social distancing is enforced at this establishment. All of the staff wears a mask. All customers are expected to wear a mask too. The staff also wears gloves. There are some hand sanitizers available for customers to use. This place is available for take outs and has some indoor seating available with limited capacity. They are also sanitizing in between customers. While I was grabbing my food from this establishment several days ago, I asked if they had any special offers and they weren't offering any at the moment. They currently don't have happy hour. They also do not allow pets in their establishment. Parking: The parking lot for this establishment is pretty massive because they share the lot with several other establishments. The parking spots are pretty wide. Food: I ordered the combo special (11-2) and my friend ordered the combo special (11-1). My friend loved her short ribs. She said they were very delicious and they melted in her mouth. I loved my bulgogi. I thought it had the perfect amount of onions in it. I was also very surprised to find that they added mushrooms in my bulgogi. Not that it's a bad thing hahaha. My friend also got the kimchi beef soup and she wanted it to be super spicy. She was disappointed when it wasn't spicy at all. I got the seafood beef tofu soup and I wanted it to be mild spicy. Again, it wasn't spicy a single bit. They gave us 3 side dishes. One spicy cucumber, one spicy kimchi, and one garlic bean sprout. The spicy cucumber and spicy kimchi were actually spicy and paired well with the rest of the dishes. The garlic bean sprouts were tasty too with the rest of the meal. I just took one star off because my friend and I were slightly disappointed in our soups. They just weren't spicy enough. Been looking forward to tryin this place. The food we was really good. Kimbap was tasty. I was able to chose the level of spice for the tofu soup which was nice. I chowed miles spice which was perfect for me as but I forgot to put the egg in it lol. We also order bbq short ribs that didn't get added to the photo. Ribs were flavored well very tender. There was a lot of side that were provided when order the bbq short rib meal. The service was on point. There were two services there they always came to ask how everything was, chit chat with you which is always nice, makes you feel welcomed. I got there around 530pm which is a good time because by the time we left people started to roll in around 630pm. The location is clean, organized, the lay out of the seating was good. The fish was so salty and couldn't taste the fish. The tofu soup turned out to be kimchi vegetable tofu soup. The soup was super spicy that we couldn't eat, so we asked the waitress. The answer from her was, what spicy level did we order. That's the problem! They never asked us, but to assume. That's fine, so we asked if they can do anything about it, her response was "oh, I don't know, I just came in". What?? What kind of service is that?! Quite disappointed with the food quality and portions here. First, the meal started with four side dishes and a small mackerel, like BCD. Unfortunately, the side dishes quality are way below that of BCD. The kimchi was bitter and leave a bad aftertaste. The salad and bean sprouts were ok, but the mackerel also had a bitter taste to it as none of the insides or gills we're cleaned out before frying. For the main dishes we ordered a beef galbi and seafood tofu soup combo ($28.99) and a Japchae ($15). For the price, I was expecting a decent portion. But there literally was only 5 pieces of bite size galbi and the Japchae didn't even fill the plate it came in. What's more disappointing was that the beef was overcooked to a level where the edges were charred and falling off. The tofu soup was also super salty with seafood that didn't taste fresh at all. All the tofu pieces was super broken up too I barely was able to fish out any. The Japchae was the only thing that tasted decent. Even though the food wasn't that great, service was pretty good. There were only three or four tables when we were there so it was easy to get the server's attention and the food came very fast. They were also very nice and polite. It's located within a strip mall on Atlantic, parking is easy within the plaza and the general area is pretty lively. The restaurant itself has a very old-school mom and pop shop feel, but is overally quite tidy. There are quite a few Korean tofu spots in the SGV, and Lee's Tofu is one of the better ones. If it were located in Koreatown, I don't think it could quite compete with the competition. However, it's pretty solid for a tofu place in Monterey Park. It's owned and run by Koreans, and you'll actually see Korean patrons there. It's a pretty basic décor with lots of wood, i.e. typical for a Korean restaurant. The banchan were all pretty tasty, and the servers came around to refill them. The tofu soup isn't as spicy as some other places, so order spicier than you normally would. The flavor is all there, and I easily finished the entire soup. They give you white rice in a hot stone pot, but I think my rice got a little dried out from the heat. I ended up adding a little bit of water to keep it soft. We were so looking forward to some delicious Korean food and went to pick up at Lee's Tofu based on a recommendation from a friend. We were so disappointed when we opened up our to go containers to find some of the blandest, tasteless Korean food we've ever had. The chicken soon tofu soup was supposed to be "medium" spicy, but it really had very little flavor and even less chicken in it. The chicken combo was bland and contained more onions than chicken. Portions were skimpy and prices were high for the quantity and quality of food we received. To go food was well packed and was ready on time as promised. Workers were friendly and efficient. All in all, we will definitely be going to ANOTHER Korean tofu house the next time we're craving Korean food. read more

I have been going to Lee's Tofu for a while. It is a great spot in Monterey Park for Korean food. It is a family owned small business and the family is great. The service is great. When you were allowed to dine indoors, they were very attentive. But they're good is just as good getting it in the restaurant as it is for take out. They give you plenty of Bachan. I have tried a variety of the soondubu and all of them are great. They have combos so you can get bbq items with tofu soup. We've been going here for years! Kids grew up eating here with friends weekly! Lee's Tofu is like the local Cheers where you run into everyone, but since the pandemic it's been a lot quieter. They can definitely use some love. The food quality is excellent! Best galbi in my opinion. Love love their tofu soups. We've had all the flavors over the years. I would recommend this place if you are craving some tofu soup. Other dishes were ok but tofu soup will hit the spot as it did for me. The restaurant isn't too small so it will be ok to bring a maybe up to 6-8 people for one group and share! There are plenty of parking spots which is always good. I had the tofu soup, medium spicy, and a spicy squid dish. The squid dish wasn't as traditional but it will still help your cravings. I liked that they had a lot of veggies in it.. it more like ddukboki than a spicy squid dish. Adding a little more squid will be helpful. **This review was written before the Quarantine order** Lee's is quite different from other ktofu restaurants that I've been to. It's tucked away to the side of the big plaza but that doesn't mean it's flavor is hidden. I was craving soondubu jigae and so I stopped by as it was close to my appointment. When you first walk in, you will notice it has a very strong "family restaurant" vibe. The shop itself is small but there's a good number of seating. The menu options is pretty standard for a Korean tofu house and the pricing is quite standard as well. I got the dumpling tofu soup in Medium spicy and it was really good! The tofu soup was flavorful and the spice level was more like a mild-medium to me (but that's relative to your own tolerance LOL) the soup was bubbling hot and so perfect for a colder day. To be honest, I prefer eating in person because you get more banchan and can get refills of it. When you get to-go, they still give you banchan, but it's a little less than when you are in person dining. When you dine in, you get a fish but only for dine in. I would recommend this place if you're in the area and craving Korean food. It's a pretty standard spot that can satisfy your cravings. The pricing is pretty standard as well, a tad bit more on the "Pricey" side but it's not THAT expensive. I don't mind supporting a local business :) read more

Sunday opening time 10:30am 4/2/23 An excellent experience. We were the only table seated the entire time that my family of 4 were there (two teen daughters) and the service was excellent. I don't know why the place was empty all morning . . . when I checked yelp reviews one of the issues was crowds, too busy and insufficient staff. So, if you want your experience to be efficient, come on Sunday morning. 11 stores in this plaza and only 4 cars parked at opening time Sunday. The male host/server was patient and helpful in explaining the menu and options and provided useful tips and advice. I can tell he intended for us to enjoy our first time visit. Our teen girls don't eat a lot, and we as middle aged parents should not eat a lot, so we ordered two combos to share; bulgogi and beef short rib (entrée, your choice of any tofu soup, normally $14.95, and stone bowl rice). At $26 and $29 per combo we chose, meals are not "cheap," but for the quantity, quality and level of "hot stone bowl/plate" service, the pricing was rather fair and reasonable. Unless eaters are 6'3" or 6'5", I don't recommend each person order their own combo meal (too much food), but instead plan to share 2 combos per 3 adults or 3 combos per 4-5 adults, and if more men than women the group can add a plate of pan fried dumplings (gyoza) or steamed dumplings and extra rice as needed. We spent $15/person (before tip). The decor was nice, everything is newly remodeled and the restrooms are new, modern and clean. Good people, good food, good interior, good location, good pricing; I encourage people to give this place a try for popular Korean food. If you don't like tofu, just skip the tofu soup (don't order the combo, get the entrée meal which the host said will include more meat than the combo with soup). If you want Korean fried chicken, or a Korean nightclub with bar service, this is not the place for you. They do have 30 or more popular Korean items, such as seafood green onion pancake, beef stew in vegetables, and all the common chicken, pork, beef and seafood and veggie dishes. If I had Yelped when I was a kid, I would have definitely been the Duke of Lee's Tofu. Lee's Tofu and I go wayyyyy back. It's probably one of the first restaurant my dad took me to when I came to the US. I have and always ordered one thing at this place: sea food tofu soup without spiciness. Sometimes I would also order the BBQ short ribs. The quality of the food has been consistent for the past 12 years. The owner of the restaurant is a nice Korean lady who actually knows me since when I was a kid. Extra star awarded for remembering my order everytime I come! There have been a lot of restaurants nearby Lee's Tofu that have been closed. The fact that Lee's Tofu still remains standing attests for the quality and consistency of the food. I am a very picky eater and to date, I still think that the tofu soup at Lee's Tofu is the best I have had so far. read more

So I have been coming here for years, but honestly, its been a while. Just came recently for lunch with my dad. Parking is always easy and this place doesn't get super busy. I ordered the soon tofu with mushrooms and clams (not specifically on the menu but they were able to accommodate) and my dad got the lunch box with short ribs. My tofu came out first and was sizzling hot! It stayed pretty hot throughout my meal. Came with a bunch of yummy sides and an egg. Decided to give this place a try on our way back home and it happened to be on the way. Why is Korean tofu so expensive?! Especially the $20 combo for galbi and it comes with just 6 pieces of meat! I recently came here with my wife as it is within walking distance of my house. I wanted to do some shopping and then go to a nice Korean restaurant, and this happens to be the closest one. The menu is slightly on the pricy side, but the unlimited banchan definitely helps. We ended up sharing a spicy pork and dumpling tofu soup with medium spiciness. The banchan definitely tasted homemade, and I also loved the complimentary corvina fish with our entree. The pork had the spicy gochujang kick without being overpowering. The interior decor is old-looking and its floor is covered in an ugly floral, leafy pattern. There was only one server at the time and he was very busy running around. I ordered my go-to order of clam tofu soup and tried some of the banchans (sides). My favorites were the salad, bean sprouts, and broccoli because they were cold, refreshing, and really opened up my palate for the entree. The clam tofu soup was probably one of the better ones I've had. It's very flavorful, and had tons of tofu and clams. Unlike some places, Lee's Tofu actually cleaned their clams properly. I did not taste any sand in my mouth at all. Overall, the price was fair and my belly was satisfied.
