I've hired movers cross-country and cross-town, many times each. Usually, the interstate movers provide a level of service and professionalism that sets me more at ease, but it's always stressful. The local crews are faster, cheaper, looser, etc. I found Like Movers to be the speed and ease of a local team, but with the professionalism and quality of an interstate line. I thoroughly recommend them -- I already did, and they moved my friend just a week after us! Every piece of furniture, including some stressfully precious objects, made it to the new house intact. Literally nothing we've unpacked (yet! there are still boxes, ha ha) has been broken or disturbed. This is impressive. The team was diligent and worked extremely hard for a very long day. They didn't waver, even at the end. They charge by the hour, and I feel like the first hour was the same value as the last. One incident stands out: the very first chair that was set down in the new house dinged some brand-new wood flooring. This was stressful, but the team did everything they could to make it right. (1) The foreman contacted the business owner to coordinate a response; (2) every mover was extra-careful for the rest of the unload, and there were no incidents; (3) they made a fair offer to make it right that day; and (4) after I was able to get a quote from my floor guy to fix it, they offered to pay for it. I researched Like Mover's reviews thoroughly before hiring them, and at this point, I'm certain the people who wrote bad reviews are more responsible for their issues than Like Movers. Like Movers moved my household contents twice. Many of the items were large and heavy, and required a crew of three men. They carefully moved everything (furniture was wrapped in furniture pads, etc.), and nothing was damaged! Wow! The best decision I made during my huge move from LA to SD was to hire Like Movers! Mike quickly got back to me with a quote, answered all my questions, was more than happy to be flexible with changing the scheduled moving day, and they were worth every penny! I research everything way too much in hopes of finding the best product/service at a reasonable price. Like Movers not only has one of the best overall ratings, but was also among the least expensive moving companies available. I called 10+ moving companies and decided to use Like Movers over the alternative options available to me, but I wish I hadn't. This was a 1.5hr job for 2 normal men, let alone professionals movers, plus another 17min for driving, so let's just say 2hrs, at most, though I think it really could've been a 1.5hr job if they really hustled. The 2 movers arrived on time. My wife and I had everything that could be in boxes, boxed up and ready at the door. They needed to wrap a couple nightstands, dressers, and a pair of 6ft long desks that weigh probably 100lbs apiece (that's not a lot of weight for 2 men to carry). We also had a king mattress that they wrapped and the frame it sat on. They wanted to disassemble and reassemble the frame - which would've taken at least 30mins total, but more like 1.5hrs at the pace they were moving. At a cost of $109 per hour, my internal response was hell no! They kept on insisting that they do it this way, but they eventually listened to me after I said no 10x over. They then proceed to shrink wrap it too tight, causing there to be a bend in one corner of the frame. I said nothing because this was the last thing they were putting into the truck before we took off, and although it wasn't ideal, I thought it would (and it did) survive the next 30mins in that state. At this point, it took us 1.5hrs to leave the house I was moving out of. It should've been maybe 45min to move all this stuff, but they took their sweet a$s time. I was even helping them move things to their truck and leaving them by the ramp. In case you don't know, all CA moving companies charge a 3hr minimum and they count the time spent driving as "double time." So, if the physical moving itself takes 2hrs, but the drive is 45min, then it would the total hours counted would be 2hrs for the moving and 1.5hrs (45min x 2) for the driving, or 3.5hrs total. I was certain this would be like 2.5hrs max, even with double time. When we left my now prior residence, I was following them to our new place (I don't trust anybody lol). When we got off the freeway, I actually got in front of them and lost them by mistake. Luckily, my wife was still behind them but they turned off a mile before arriving at our new place and took another 10min to show up. It took me 17min to get to the new place - 18min for my wife. It took them 30min. Why? Because they made a pit stop at the 7/11 for bottled water (I noticed them drinking it at the new place). When they first arrived for the move, they asked me for water within 15min of the job. I don't have bottled water - I use a Britta water filter and offered them this. They declined (they're too good for this) and said not to worry about it. So now that they arrived at our new place with our belongings, 2hrs has elapsed and I'm dumbstruck about how they've managed to stretch this job out to where I might have to end up paying more than the 3hr minimum. I hustle things up (as they move slowly) + help them take their supplies back other truck, and now 2hrs and 50min had elapsed from start to finish. He pulls out his phone to charge me and it's for 3.5hrs! He conveniently rounded up to 3hrs and said the driving was 30mins, or 1hr for the double time drive. I said you took a 10min detour and the driving was really 17-18min worth had you not done that (I'm not paying an extra $55 for your water break, I thought, in my head). He gave pushback at first. Then, when he realized I wasn't backing down, he updated it to 3hrs, like he was doing me a huge favor. I haven't moved since I was a child, so I didn't realize tipping was part of this business, but with the service and attempt to rip me off, I would feel justified in leaving $0. After I paid he goes "no tip?" And even though I'm pissed, I pull out $10 lol. He goes, want to give more? I think to myself, "wow, the audacity of this guy!" but I decide to pull out another $8. That's $18 total - more than they deserved IMO. His response: "nine dollars?" I reply, "that's $18," to which he goes "but that's only $9 each." I said that's all I got. I don't feel any shame in giving "only" $18. If they weren't trying to rip me off and asked for a tip, I gladly would've handed over like a $50 tip for a fast, good job, but they did not. Never again! My wife and I bought a new couch and table a few weeks later and the 2 movers who delivered them (smaller guys than the movers with this company) did so at a much faster pace while also not damaging a single thing. I don't want thinking about this experience but it jogged her memory and she was like, "wow, I see now that company was incredibly slow." The other bad reviews on Yelp express the same experience. Needed to do a local move from one building to another within the same complex. Went from a 2 bd and downsized to a 1bd apartment, both units located on the second floor. I had 3 guys and they were fantastic! Moved all of my things carefully and quickly, considering the building I moved to didn't have an elevator. After 30 years in the same house, in 92122, we moved to 92024. Not a long move, in terms of miles, but a big move, in terms of the amount of "stuff" we have accumulated over the years. Mike was quick to reply to a Yelp message, and came by the same day to look at the job. He gave us quotes for packing, and for moving / unpacking. We also wanted them to (i) haul away some ancient / tarnished furniture, and (ii) take some patio furniture, and dining tables/chairs, to our daughter and her family, in the 92024 ZIP code. They ended up needing two days (one for junk removal & packing, the next for moving & unpacking), and they used two trucks. The crew was headed up by Alex, a very thoughtful and courteous guy. They worked constantly, and carefully. Larger items were wrapped in blankets, then in shrink wrap. Very large items, like beds and dining tables, were dismantled first (and expertly re-assembled at our new property). Everything arrived safely. Mike called me the next morning, just to ask if there had been any issues. There weren't. Moved the contents of a house to a storage and Alec and Sergei were awesome. Showed up on time. Got right to work wrapping everything in stretch wrap. Had moving blankets to pad stuff in the truck.
