I'm really sad that I forgot to take pictures of the food and the restaurant itself because it was very delicious food and a fun place to be. When we initially walked in at lunch time the line was incredibly long so we almost decided to pass and go somewhere else but as we waited we realized they were extremely efficient and the line was moving very well. Well in line, we noticed the food was all being cooked right in front of us so you could see the fresh chicken, hamburgers, vegetables ECT as they were being ordered and getting cooked. The staff there was extremely efficient in getting things out to people and the orders completed as they came. The burger was super juicy and well cooked as well as extremely flavorful. My brother and I were out for the day and looking for a good place for lunch. He suggested this Cafe because they have good burgers and good chicken fried steak. It's a very small place that the tourist probably wouldn't look twice at but is very well known with the locals. I ordered the bacon cheeseburger with tater tots and a fountain drink. You order and wait for your name to be called. It tops about 10 minutes to get our food. What I live best about Hamburgers in Texas is that they are big, they do t put ketchup on them, and the patty is thin. Saturday nights are busy, but it soon became clear that the long line had nothing to do with it. the kitchen, which is visible behind the counter, was in disarray. no one seemed to be in charge and orders were piled high. watching the manner in which the food was handled was also cause for concern. using filthy looking rags to wipe off the counter only to place buns on top for the next batch of burgers waiting trimmings. use of plastic gloves and yet touching everything with them. At one point, after 15 minutes in line, we were told we'd be the last order before they had to "reset" the kitchen. the food was decent. the burgers are good but the fries were completely soggy. The server was very nice and helpful over the phone. My food was ready when I got there so that was nice. She got a Bacon burger and onion rings and I opted for a cheeseburger, chili fries and strawberry shake. The burgers are a really good size for the price point. The chili is homemade and it paired nicely with the French fries. My mom liked her burger but her onion rings did not hold up as well on the drive home so she was disappointed about that. They were all clumped together so I put them in the air fryer when I got home to heat them up. The original location on Blanco Rd. close to 1604 never once has let me down. I located this place by accident with a friend several years ago and have been coming ever since. The burgers are made fresh to order and are thrown down on the grill right after you order them. I almost always get the Double Cheeseburger because the high quality ground beef they use for the burgers is delicious! If you are ordering sides such as tater tots or onion rings, I recommend only ordering one basket for two people because the serving size is huge! Wash down your delicious meal with one of their chocolate milkshakes and you'll be forever thanking me that you did. Longhorn Cafe has branched out to several locations throughout the city but the Blanco location will always be my true favorite! Been there a couple of times now, it was recommended to me by a co-worker. Let me start off by saying they have amazing country fried steak, the sides are delicious too. My partner got the double cheeseburger and it was extremely simple but full of flavor. The tots, cheese sticks, and jalapeño poppers are great as well. Probably has turned into one of my favorite little spots in town. Great for breakfast or lunch. My visit started less than perfect as they were out of Diet Coke, but I didn't know that until I paid and went to fill up my cup. Then the water tasted like dish soap. I tried different two cups thinking it was the cup, but nope, it was just terrible water. When it's 90 outside you really just want a good cold drink. The order taker refunded my drink charge with no argument. When our order was up, they told me they were out of green beans so I opted for a side salad. The salad was ok. The highlight of the meal was the chicken fried chicken. The chicken was juicy and perfectly cooked. Mashed potatoes and gravy were a perfect compliment. I'm always a sucker for Texas toast and this was good. My kids had a burger and chicken fingers and both ate everything. They liked the atmosphere and that they could be kids without getting shushed. The decor is rustic Texas casual. I would put this place in the same category as Blanco BBQ and Bigz for good food in a casual relaxed atmosphere. The food was VERY delicious and I would give it 4 stars, but the environment did not make me want to stay long. It wasn't until we paid for the food to sit down that we saw how filthy the place was. There are spiderwebs all over the ceilings, dust on all the decorations, the seats are peeling apart and have blackened dirt, I had to clean the table to sit down, there are flies everywhere, the windows have handprints and are stopped with napkins to keep the air flow from going out. The place definitely needs some work. It does not seem like they care much about food handler safety from the cooks kept touching their face and beards with gloves on then going back to the food.... The place has a lot of potential but the people seem uninspired and have abandoned the basic principles of a restaurant/ cafe. read more

Unfortunately they decided to get petty and think that they could somehow possibly be confused with Andrew Weissman's restaurant Mr. Juicy and had the audacity to file a cease and desist order. Wow is all I can say! This was a first visit for us by recommendation. I got their original big juicy burger with cheese and a side of chili cheese fries with a coke. The burger: This burger was perfect! Perfectly cooked, seasoned, and dressed. Crisp lettuce, ripe tomatoes and just enough thinly sliced white onion to round it off. It had the perfect amount of mayo and mustard. The chili cheese fries: the homemade chili was perfect. A good Texas chili my only "issue" if you would even call it that, would be the soggy fries. I'm not a huge soggy fry person (yes I know I'm getting them covered in chili and cheese) but even the fries not covered we're still a bit pale. But that being said I still finished them off. This is not a cinnamon nutmeg chili place. Coke was a good fountain drink not flat not over syrupy. I have to say I've had a ton of burgers and without a doubt this is THE BEST BURGER IVE HAD IN SAN ANTONIO! 10/10 would recommend. Took my wife to this location tonight for Valentines Day dinner. Didn't realize the restaurant closed at 8:30. We walked in - a guy was ordering at the register. We had not been back in about 10 years from the first time we visited Longhorn Cafe. We had stopped going because the place was really filthy. Today we decided to give it a try again. Hamburgers were great, well seasoned and good flavor. Ham and cheese sandwich was kinda ok. But the truth of the matter is that I simply cannot understand how Longhorn Café is still in business. The place had just opened this morning, it was 11 o'clock, and the bathrooms were so filthy it gave me the creeps to use them, really really nasty and no toilet paper in one of the toilets... We decided to go and sit outside and it was so nasty. We had to go back inside, no way you can eat surrounded by old trampled fries and filthy napkins on the floor, sticky surfaces and dust everywhere. I don't think this time we'll ever go back, it is too disgusting. read more

Alamo City Burger Project Eating my way through San Antonio's burger menu Service and Setting It looks like they have about 8 locations across South Texas, making it the largest chain we have visited. It is a counter operation with the kitchen and grill on full display. They have a lot of picnic tables inside and on the patio. Easily the most dangerous playground we have seen. It's a 4 foot tall wooden ramp that ends with a 3.5 foot wide by 7 foot long piece sheet metal that they propose is a slide. It looks like it could double as the griddle, but I would venture to guess in the summer sun it would be too hot for burgers, nonetheless children's' thighs. You pick up your food after being called over a PA that would make Dane Cook (when he was funny) proud. Menu We went for The Original Big Juicy, but they have just about every burger option for which one could pine: mushroom & Swiss, bacon, guac, bean, chili and jalapeno. They have a good selection of vegetarian burgers options, though still no vegetarian reviewers volunteered for this trip. The rest of the menu has a selection of other hot sandwiches, chicken and dinner plates. Very affordable prices. Beverage They have a a wide array of domestic bottles including every Bud Light lime/orange/band-aid flavor you never wanted. A few beers on tap as well. Coke products in the soda fountain. I think I missed the milkshake on the menu, but I didn't see anyone drinking one. Sides A full line-up of your fried favorites from fries and rings to pickles and poppers to tots and Texas toothpicks. I could have gone for a few extra sauce options beyond ketchup and ranch, but they were all satisfactory. Patty You can go original, double patty or 1/2lb-er. They boast fresh, never frozen beef. The 1/3lb patty comes out very thin to cover the area of the bun. Difficult to discern the taste among the other ingredients. Had good enough juice to run onto the wax paper if for some unthinkable reason you smashed it down like Graham did. Dress and Bun I could have eaten the bun by itself as an appetizer. Think garlic bread without the garlic or a mom's grilled cheese without the Kraft single. Wonderful toast on it with a good butter coating. In respect to veg, they were a little heavy handed with the lettuce, but otherwise had the right crispness and surface area to capture all of the co-mingling flavors. We have had better pickles, but I did like the quantity. The guacamole portion was stingy, but those eating jalapeno and mushroom & Swiss toppings had good servings. They have gluten free and wheat bun options to which I am more strongly opposed than Clay's terrible music. Geoff's take: "Next time I'm looking for a burger on 1604, I'll pass Longhorn and go to Bigz." Matt's take: "I came to watch children play on the sticky slide but was disappointed." Matt's take 2: "I had the 'Big Juice' classic with all the toppings, great toasted bun not too soggy despite quantity of toppings, filled me up despite being 1/3 lb." The Verdict Longhorn served a quality griddle burger with some great flavors. I think the 1/3lb patty gets pounded out a little thin to cover that large bun, and I think things would have blended together a little nicer with a slightly smaller bun and thicker patty. The pickles and special toppings were good but not great. Overall, the group was very happy with their burgers, and I think just a few tweaks could make take it into rare air. For now, we give it a very respectable 4 spurs. read more
