My son came over today to visit. He asked what I was planning for dinner, but I didn't have any plans. We started talking about my excursion yesterday to Las Bolitas across from Ingram mall. You can go read that review. To summarize it, I was blown away. All I have thought about since eating a cabeza burrito is eating a cabeza burrito. We decided that was what we wanted for dinner tonight. My son likes to order from Door Dash, so he put in our order. We ordered two cabeza burritos, a chile relleno burrito, and a shrimp and steak burrito. We both wanted to try the chile relleno burrito, and he ordered the surf and turf burrito for his dinner later tonight. He accidently ordered from the wrong location. I was okay with that. I want to know if other locations are as good as the one I went to. I can answer that with a resounding yes. Now, first let me tell you that they got our order wrong. Instead of the chile relleno burrito, they sent us a double chile relleno plate complete with rice and beans. Now, y'all know that I rate Mexican restaurants on their rice, beans, and tortillas. All three of them met my standards. The beans were especially wonderful! I really liked the chile relleno, but in the future, I would prefer one with beef instead of only cheese. The torta was really good, as well, but I think I will stick with the cabeza burrito in the future. For one thing, it is easier to eat. Secondly, the tortilla on the burrito doesn't overwhelm the taste of the filling as much as the bread of the torta does. This is the third Las Bolitas location my son has tried and the second for me. I'm just going to unapologetically say that Las Bolitas will now be my go to Mexican restaurant. read more

On thursday may 26 I went to eat with my family and when my tio was paying for our food one of the servers that had pink hair asked if he wasn't going to tip her in a rude way and my tio told her yes but in cash. She said... "are you not going to leave tip ?" In Spanish and rude way. My tio got upset but didn't tell her anything he left the tip on top of the table either way. It's Sunday morning in early September and I'm sleepy and slow, and maybe a little hungover, after watching college football all day Saturday, and past midnight because of a double OT game. We come to this location often as a family of 5; all three kids are under 10. We stopped coming when they got rid of the daily specials but returned when we learned they were back. We have ordered their burritos, quesadillas, rolled tacos, fish tacos, and crispy chicken tacos and all were tasty. The service isn't always the best but we have never seen more than two waitresses at a time there handling the to go orders, dine in, and cash register. It's just a small shop but the food and service is EXCELLENT!! I ordered the #9 - 2 Chilli Rellenos, Rice, and beans that come with lettuce and sour cream on the rice and beans. It's true, some things are better in Texas. When visiting I've dined here twice and totally enjoyed my food on each occasion. My latest visit, I thought I was unsure of what I wanted, but had been telling my guy that I wanted menudo. Easy enough, I got him the Saturday burrito special and I got a small menudo to go. One star deducted because on each of my visits they've forgotten something. This time it was my corn tortillas that comes w/menudo orders. Nice enough people working there. Parking is shared with neighboring businesses and not an issue. They have a condiment bar that I absolutely rave about each time I go. I really like the pickled jalapeños, carrots, onions and assortment of sauces and fresh cut limes to go with your food. The tacos come in regular and in mini. Either way, I think you'll enjoy them as they cook to order and items come out piping hot. I will however say that the carne asada fries were good but not California good. I usually come here after work all the time and I'm not sure if the older lady in the front was just having a bad day or if there was a language barrier. She said something in Spanish but unfortunately I don't know Spanish and apologized for not understanding her and tried to proceed to order. Even being we're not speaking the same language she still knows what's on the menu of the restaurant she works at but instead asked if we have a pick up order to which my boyfriend replied "no, we're trying to order for dine in" and she just looked at him so I repeated that "we're ordering now, sorry" and she took my order of two bean and cheese then started talking to her coworker never indicating that she was ready for the next item or if she had got it in so my boyfriend orders his food and she never asks for a name or anything just stared at me when the food was done. I got a bean and cheese that was so cold that the cheese hadn't even melted. I also said that we would be eating there and when we sat down they turned the music off and the older lady along with what looked like a cook and another hostess/waitress just starred at me while I attempted to eat the food. Then when reached the door to leave the younger girl put the music back on. Very disappointed with the food AND the service. It was a Saturday afternoon, and I was in the mood for menudo. I had already been there during the week for a to-go order, and was told that their menudo is only served on Saturday and Sunday. So I called ahead and asked if they were serving menudo today. The girl said, "let me go check", came back on the phone and said, "yes, we have menudo". 15 minutes later I was at the counter ordering menudo, when the cook said, "No, we don't have menudo". I told them I had just called, but all I got was a lot of, "I'm so sorry, sir". I was so pissed. I'm NEVER going back to that place ever again!! Alright so before anyone starts judging me for ordering a burrito, I know San Antonio is all about tacos and this place has the word "taco". I love tacos, but being from California I also love burritos. Unfortunately for me, it's hard to find a good burrito place here so I got excited when I saw this place has a California Burrito on their menu. After months of having this place bookmarked, I finally tried it a couple weekends ago during quarantine. There was dine-in available but I decided to take my to-go and eat in the car. The workers had masks on and were friendly. I decided on the Tierra y Mar burrito since surf and turf burritos are my go to in California and it was also their daily special. I added guacamole to it as well because who doesn't love guac? The burrito was a decent size and I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of steak and shrimp in the burrito. The cheese wasn't really melted unfortunately and was all at the bottom of the burrito instead of evenly sprinkled throughout. I tried this place after reading some reviews about how good thier breakfast tacos were. Man was this a let down. The tortillas did not taste homemade at all - almost like they just order them from HEB.  They were also not warm at all and sticky.  I'm sorry, but a 'meh' tortilla will pretty much always ruin my breakfast taco experience. They are also very skimpy with how much they put inside. My chorizo and egg was a joke, as was my bacon and egg. Basically 75% crappy tortilla and 25% actual filling such as egg, meats and such. The refried beans in my bean and cheese and the Horchata were the only redeeming qualities of my breakfast. They were both good! If only those good beans had been placed inside a non-soggy homemade tortilla. I will also add the salsa was pretty good. Would have enjoyed it more had my chips not been soggy in some places and stale in others. You can't go wrong with the cheap generous portions from this place! If you are looking for great, quick food for cheap, this is it! I live precisely in the middle between this location and their Ingram location. Their Ingram location has a drive thru and is open 24 hours, but this one is open pretty late too. The food is great at both locations. This location tends to be a bit cleaner. Their tacos are huge and always very full. I love the grilled chicken and carne asada. Went to the Los Balito's in Alamo ranch and tried a few things! To start off they brought us some chips which we had with the salsa from the salsa bar(yes there is a salsa bar). They have a variety of salsas to try along with the different sides to eat with your dish. I also ordered an horchata to try out, it was delicous. For the main course, I ordered the Al pastor street tacos with cilantro and onions (of course), and topped ot off with salsa verde. They give you 5 tacos fully loaded with this plate. I was barely able to close the taco trying to eat it! Along the other choices, I also got some cabeza tacos and my grandma got a fish taco which she enjoyed. The cabeza was nice and tender, well seasoned. Definitely come by Los Balito's if you are on this side of town by Alamo Ranch, it will be worth it. Decided to give this place a try since we have been trying to find a good spot near our house. Ordered fajita tacos to go and got one of the worse tacos I have ever had. Even worse than what you get in Austin. The tacos did not have any fajita meat but instead had a scoop of asada meat. Flour tortillas are store bought and not homemade. Seemed like they were warmed up in a microwave as they were soft and hard at the same time. I am sure they purposely did this because it was a to go order versus dining in. Being from California; I was super excited to try this place as I was told that it is the closest to Cali -Mex that you will find in San Antonio. My first visit was a few months ago at which time I was craving Chicken rolled tacos. Those were just ok. This time I ordered Carne Asada Burrito, 1 carne Asada and 2 carnitas tacos. The Carne Asada was great, very well seasoned and also decent sized. My friend also really enjoyed the tacos. I wish they had Jamaica as a drink choice. So at this point, you're probably wondering why I only gave 2 stars. Well aside from the fact that they forgot to give me my pico and guac, my issue is with the customer service/first impression of the counter staff. When I arrived, there were 2 young ladies working at the front counter and a few families dining in. I immediately noticed and was taken aback to see one of the ladies sitting at the counter/cashier station with a full plate of food, eating and sopping her food up with her hands as the other stood there taking orders. She never looked up, stopped eating nor tried to take her food to the back . She just sat there eating like she was at home at the dinner table. Eventually, the other lady had to ask her for help putting in the order and "only" then did she stop eating and get up to help. She then commences to putting in the order with those same fingers that she's been licking and handling her food with. She never washed her hands or used sanitizer until she finished putting in the order and decided that it was time to resume eating her meal. As I sat and waited for my order, another customer came in to pick-up and she just sat there eating until she realized that the other girl was busy bagging an order. She then asked him if she could help him and proceeded to turn around and grab his order without washing her hands. BTW; I made sure that she did not handle my food when it was ready. Being in Human Resources and Customer service for over 35 years; I find this behavior to be appalling. Eating at the front counter is unacceptable in any service environment, but especially a restaurant or food service establishment. And I won't even go there about professionalism and etiquette. But more importantly; in light of the fact that we are still dealing with Covid (2 years later) and other communicable diseases; this behavior is disgusting, disturbing and concerning to say the least. I do not plan to return to this location and the health department should probably pay a surprise visit to see what other questionable practices may be taking place. read more

Went back and got the steak quesadilla and some carne asada fries. Well the steak quesadilla was too greasy and I couldn't really eat it. There was plenty of steak in it. Just too greasy for my taste. The fries were good. I wasn't expecting there to be so many fries. Ok we will start with what I didn't like about them. The fries had no seasoning on them. NONE.
