My group got two prime ribs and two burgers, along with wings, grilled oysters, fish dip, brussel sprouts and a variety of drinks. Everything was so good and the service was fast, friendly and attentive. We finished the meal with a slice of chocolate cake and I think I'll think about it forever, it was so good. We visited Maie Day to celebrate my husband's birthday after hearing great things about their prime rib brunch and wanted to finally give it a try. When we arrived, there was a sweet birthday greeting card on the table, which was such a thoughtful touch to start things off. We had originally thought the prime rib was carved tableside (based on what we'd read before), but it actually comes pre-sliced and cooked from the back--which honestly makes sense for sustainability and consistency in the long run. Our server was friendly, though not the most knowledgeable when it came to menu questions. Instead of checking on the answers, they mostly explained why they didn't know, which left a few curiosities hanging. Now for the food -- the prime rib was absolutely delicious and hands down one of the best deals in Austin at $19 for a 10oz Wagyu. The cinnamon roll was flavorful with fun caramelized edges, but a bit more dense than we prefer (we're team light and fluffy brioche). We also added eggs to our order, but they came out a bit after our steaks and sides -- so the timing was a little off since we wanted to top everything together. Toward the end, our check came before we were offered dessert, and only then did our server mention they meant to bring a complimentary birthday sorbet, which was a bit of a miss on the celebration experience. Visited Maie Day during happy hour, and stayed for dinner. The grilled oysters were the table favorite, do not miss out on these! For entrées, my favorite was the ribeye cooked to a perfect medium, rare, super tender, and just a delight at every bite! A close runner-up was the chicken fried steak, which the gravy alone was amazing, but was lost a bit when paired with a thickly battered steak. Dessert was a giant slice of chocolate cake. Right on South Congress in the heart of things, this "Community Chophouse" is located streetside of the hotel, so parking garage is attached for convenience. The space is truly part of the area in aesthetic and flair. Dusky burnt oranges and wood tones from the decor to the seating. I was in 2 Peach Old Fashions before I blinked. -the potato rolls and French fries and were simple but textures taste were perfect. - wonderfully cooked Strip Steak. Had the view of the wood fire grill from our table and loved the sear it put on our beef. Fat cap was rendered to almost butter. And the meat itself was rendered an well salted. -green beans were a surprise. Lovely little sauce coated them all evenly and made them so craveable. Few misses - Caesar salad was nice and big but the taste of the dressing wasn't quite doing it for us. If you like tangy this might be for you. -crudo was a bit on the plumpy side, I'm used to small slices. The brine it was served in didn't do enough to justify the dish. TLDR: Come on Prime Rib Fridays For 2025, I've made it my mission to try at least one new Texas Michelin Guide restaurant per month. To kick things off, I started with Maie Day and was eager to see if it lived up to the hype. I stopped by for a weekend lunch, only to find that the menu leaned heavily toward breakfast items. I wanted something that truly showcased what Maie Day is about... not dishes I could have made at home for a fraction of the price. Instead, I opted for the Prime Rib Slider ($18.50)--the closest thing I could find to their signature Prime Rib. I've never tried anything served with au jus before, but wow--if this is how au jus tastes, I'm obsessed. The hint of horseradish in the sauce gave it a kick I wasn't expecting. I might just have to order more meaty sandwiches in the future! Unfortunately, that happiness was short-lived, as my slider was just as it's name intends.. it's a slider, not a sandwich. For anyone still interested in trying Maie Day, I'd recommend stopping by for Prime Rib Fridays, starting at 11 AM, where they serve a thick slice of their prime rib with my new favorite au jus for just $19. read more

I came here for happy hour with my friend Jennie. We found out they have happy hour via online, and it looked like a good deal from what we saw. We came right when they opened at 5pm, the place is very spacious, and the music is pretty loud. We found it a little hard to have a conversation because of how overpowering the music was, almost felt like we were in a club. The food offerings they have for happy hour was pretty limited and we thought they would have good deals for drinks, but even with $2 off cocktails, you're still paying at least $12 per drinks... not really worth it in my opinion. We chose Maid Day to celebrate a friend's 40th birthday, and overall it's a very nice spot for a special occasion. The atmosphere was perfect for a celebration, warm, inviting, and lively without being too noisy. Before going, we read a review that mentioned the restaurant placed a birthday card on the table ahead of time, which we thought was such a thoughtful touch. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case for our visit. Also, although I had noted "birthday celebration" twice in our reservation, our server didn't seem to be aware of it until I mentioned it near the end of our meal. As for the food: the Friday special Prime Rib ($19) was a good deal but arrived lukewarm. Ironically, the plate was hotter than the prime rib itself. The shrimp and grits were flavorful and nicely seasoned but also not as warm as expected. The highlight of the luncheon was the prime rib sandwich, excellent flavor, generous portion, and perfect for sharing. The best part came when I quietly mentioned it was my friend's birthday. Our server immediately comped the cinnamon roll dessert, added a candle, and served it beautifully with ice cream. It was a lovely gesture and a great save that ended the lunch on a positive note. All in all, Maid Day is a charming restaurant and a good choice for birthdays, but I'd recommend double-checking that any special requests are communicated clearly. We went here for a birthday celebration, a total of 8 people including kids. We had a reservation and were seated soon after we arrived. We heard about their famous $20 Prime Rib special on Fridays, so we decided to try this restaurant for the first time. We ordered Chips and Queso for appetizers. The chips are the same kind you would get at Americanized Chinese restaurants when you order soup. We frequently call them "wonton chips," though I'm sure there's an official name for them. They were delicious! I couldn't stop eating them as they reminded me of my childhood. I couldn't try the queso as I'm lactose intolerant, but my family said that it was good. We all ordered prime rib. When it came out, we could see the chef inspect each rib, cutting into each and tasting for quality. It was a fantastic experience to watch him do that in the middle of the restaurant. However, when we tried the rib, we were all very disappointed by how much salt it contained! The rib was tender and flavorful, but I'm sure I ate my entire day's worth of sodium in just a slice of meat. Some of our party couldn't take it and couldn't finish it. They also allow you to order two sides, the mashed potatoes and the broccoli, for $8 each. Both were made with milk products; again, I'm lactose intolerant, so I couldn't eat them. Both sides were also too salty, and the portions were small! If you had small hands and made a cup with your hand, that was how much food you were given, but you were charged $8 for salt... um...I mean for the side. I decided to order a fruit bowl, which, to my surprise, came with strawberries, blackberries, and blueberries. It was a good amount of fruit; I think I paid $4 for it. It was a much better decision than getting an $8 side (salt) dish. The interior was nice, but they had live music inside the restaurant. We were trying to have a conversation, but we were shouting over the band that was playing. The music was good, but come on! It was Friday lunch, not a weekend dinner! Lastly, our server mistakenly thought it was the kid's birthday instead of my adult sister-in-law's. Did you think we would all come out and spend hundreds of dollars at a steak restaurant to celebrate a birthday for a 3-year-old? They gave a free chocolate cake, which was nice, and provided small plates and spoons for everyone at the table. For the owner/chef of Maie Day, note that when people don't finish their food at your restaurant, it's not because they're full. It's because your food is too salty. Maybe to you, your food is good, but with how much salt was in our food that day, it felt like we were tasting the ocean. We won't be back. read more

The ambiance was nice but something happened to the A/C and was a bit warm in the place for brunch. They do have outside patio if we have nice weather. Ok so we started with the bread basket which sold out and we got the last bowl of them. The bread was so good. We ordered the armstrong dip and pancakes to start our meal. We had to order the cinnamon roll which the pastry chef hit it on the dot. Delicious!!! My husband ordered the burger which was huge and he didnt want fries. My sister ordered the prime rib hash and I ordered the Maie'd Up Plate. The hash browns tasted were homemade and were sooooo goood and loved the thick bacon. The plates were big and we had to take it home. If you want the option to try anything on the menu I would advise to go early because they were running out of brunch items. When I give a 5 star review it's because a restaurant does at least 1 thing better, or as good, as any restaurant I've been to. Maie Day earns that distinction for the divine prime rib I ate last Friday. Incredibly tender interior, a little finishing salt to bring out the flavor, nicely marbled, roasty exterior crust, intense umami/beefy jus, and flavorful & spicy creamy horseradish sauce, I can't remember a prime rib better than Maie Day's (that includes iconic House of Prime Rib in San Francisco & my dad's Christmas roast). At the end of lunch, I seriously wanted to order another slice; it was that good We sat outside at one of the big tables in the protected courtyard shared w/ Manana and the South Congress Hotel. It was a beautiful mid-70s day, and the courtyard provided a lovely environment for lunch. On Fridays, Maie Day sells their prime rib for $19. They say it's a 10oz cut, but honestly our 2 slices seemed closer to 12-14oz (a very welcome surprise!) We actually tried to eat at Maie Day twice before and they'd already sold out of the prime rib by about 1:30pm, so I suggest getting there before 1pm if you're really craving the prime rib. The service was good from the host, bartender, to the server. The main reason I like coming to this restaurant is because of their big and spacious bar table. I've been coming here since it was Central Standard. The drinks were decent: Old Fashioned, Manhattan, What the Doctor Ordered, Mulled Wine, Do some Thyme, Peach Pit (liked an Old Fashioned but with peach notes), etc. Entrees were a bit overpriced. 16 oz ribeye for $70, but you should be prepared for that eating out at restaurants like this. Menu choices were very simple. We enjoyed our choices: Loaded fries, creamed kale, mac & cheese, butterflied redfish, ribeye, chocolate cake (huge slice), and cheese cake. No cushioned seats. The seats were wooden and hard surfaced. Not too uncomfortable, but not my favorite choice. The restroom was kept clean except for one stall's floor being really wet. Not sure why. read more

I have visited Maie Day three times since they originally opened, and have been impressed each time more than the last. The menu prices seem a bit steep, but almost everything is served in huge family-style portions. We started with a small Caesar salad, with creamy Worcestershire-based dressing, which was large enough to split between six people. For our main course we ordered the grilled half chicken, big pork chop, and prime rib. We also ordered the mac n' cheese and market mushrooms as sides. The high quality of every ingredient was evident, and every dish was perfectly seasoned. My must order items for next time -- the market mushrooms, mac n' cheese, and the big pork chop. Don't forget to save room for dessert - we ordered the "World Famous" Texas Chocolate Cake and it was incredibly decadent and delicious. One slice was so large that we were able to split it between all six of us, although our attempt to cut it resulted in a minor chocolate massacre. My favorite part was the lemonade gel drizzled on top of the cake - who knew lemonade could go so well with chocolate! Our server was excellent and incredibly helpful when we were trying to figure out how many dishes to order for our group. Maie Day itself is a beautiful restaurant that is well decorated. A small detail but I love when restaurants have lotion in the restrooms, and Maie Day's smells amazing. The main reason I am rating Maie Day 4 out of 5 stars is because I am still mourning the loss of Maie Day's funeral potatoes on the menu. They were an amazing potato dish and side and I am still holding out hope that Maie Day brings them back. read more

The weather was beautiful so we sat outside in their courtyard area. While casual, the candles on the table and nice linen napkins give it an added touch of taste! We had heard that Maie Day serves up a good burger and I have to say, it was exceptional! The presentation itself created an excitement for what was to come! It was cooked to perfection! And the service was very friendly and attentive to our needs. Josh made sure to check in frequently and ensured we had an enjoyable experience. I wouldn't say this is the type of restaurant that you would want to bring a child to but my granddaughter enjoyed the special one on one time and the entire staff was very kind and accommodating to her! I have mixed feelings about Maie Day but unfortunately the bad outweighs the good enough that I probably would not return. I found Maie Day through the Michelin guide and was excited to try another restaurant that I assumed would be top notch with a recommendation from Michelin. Unfortunately, this has been the first of its kind that has left me disappointed. We started with the Maie's El Rancho Roberta Armstrong Dip which first came to the table cold. After letting the server know, they kindly replaced it with a hot queso but unfortunately, even hot, the queso was grainy, flavorless, and the chips were somewhat stale. We picked at it until our mains came which were the burger and the prime rib slider with a side of fries. The burger was gorgeous, and looked amazing. I could tell the meat was high quality and seasoned well. The sauce they use was very mustard heavy and overwhelmed the flavor profile of the whole burger. The main downside is that it's insanely messy and falls apart immediately once you take a bit. I ended up using a knife and fork as the meal progressed to save my hands from being covered in the sauce they drown the burger in. The slider was nothing to write home about. The tiny portion of prime rib was not made better by the gravy that it was served with. The fries were fresh, crispy, and well seasoned. Our server was great and very attentive. My review is only for their prime rib specials on Friday from 11-3pm. It's first come first serve and walk-ins are welcomed, however, I think it's better if you make a reservation for their Friday special on OpenTable! I sat outdoors and even though it's scorching outside, their outdoor seating is covered so it's definitely tolerable. It was not busy at all when I came at 1pm. I only ordered the prime rib for $19. If you wanted a side of mashed potatoes, it's $8. I thought the prime rib was juicy and it was cooked to perfection. However, it lacked flavor and needed more salt. The horseradish cream was delicious and was lowkey the star of the show. Even though it lacked flavor, the portion size was good, and for the price of $19, it's not bad at all and worth the try! When I was looking at their brunch menu, their items were a bit pricy. What stood out to me was their avocado toast because it was $18.50 (includes whipped avocado, garlic oil, field pea, pickled mustard seed, and arugula). If you want to add an egg, it was +$4. I saw articles about Maie Day and some amazing Instagram worthy photos, so thought we would try this place out. Made a reservation for 4 on a Friday night. We were seated in the corner off shoot area by a window so the atmosphere was different from the rest of the restaurant where the open fire grill and the bar were. The service was great and our waiter recommended some good dishes. We ordered the crab dip, crab claws, potato bread, half loaded fries, Mac and cheese, prime rib, and chicken. None of the dishes were instagram worthy like the ones initially saw when Maie Day opened. The crab claws were super small and visually not stunning. But it tasted good with the garlic butter dipping sauce. The crab dip came out next and was decent with the hush puppies. I was expecting more flavor. The potato bread was moist and delicious and came with something like honey butter with salt crystals. This was our favorite appetizer. The loaded fries were nothing to write home about. They tasted decent. We really liked the prime Rib and the Mac and cheese. Those were our favs for the entree part. The prime rib had a healthy serving - 16oz. The chicken was okay. For a sophisticated double date night, our group took in the energetic sights of south congress and found ourselves in a modern style chop house. The portion sizes are tailored for sharing. The ambiance is clearly tailored for large groups and has an appeal for the younger crowd while still appealing to the mature audience. Crowd noise was average until later in the evening when it was closer to capacity but nothing too distracting. Our waiter, Ryan, was absolutely pleasant. Being our first time, he gave details of the menu, appetizers, and the cocktail menu. Even offered non-alcoholic versions that weren't on the menu which was a treat that's hard to beat. For starters we tried the crab dip which came with squash hush puppies and ordered a side of house made ritz crackers. Absolutely amazing. Those hush puppies alone were worth ordering. But paired incredibly well with the crab dip. Then we ordered the grilled half chicken, prime rib with house macaroni and cheese, and mashed potatoes. The chicken, char grilled seasoned well while maintaining its tender juiciness. The mac and cheese was topped with bread crumbs. Prime rib was cooked medium, as that's the only option but was a delicious cut of meat and truly cooked medium. For dessert, we tried the chocolate and cheesecake.
