A group of girls and myself went here for dinner tonight and had a bit of a rocky start, with our table receiving another tables order, some things came out slow, and some dishes requested were forgotten but sometimes that just how it goes and our server was really accommodating she handled our complaints well and bounced back quick. She offered us some comps in consideration for the mistakes, which we appreciated. The food was decadent and yummy, with the prime rib melting in your mouth and cooked medium rare, just how I like it. The entree portions were large so we only needed two entrees for five of us. We enjoyed the pork chop, and had quite a few sides, all of which I loved. They gave us a slice of the chocolate cake which was amazing... none of us are really cake people but it was really moist and definitely worth trying. They ended up tacking on a 20% tip, which was fine by me as I had intended to anyway and I tipped a little extra for the patience with the issues we had. Tried Maie Day (which I learned means party) for a girlfriend's dinner last night. Nice selection of cocktails though I started with a lavender lemonade mocktail which was refreshing. Started with grilled green beans appetizer which were very tasty with a lemon and sesame seed glaze. The main event was two steaks ordered for the table to share - ribeye and prime rib. Both were cooked perfectly but the prime rib was the best I've ever had (loved the fresh horseradish sauce). Creamed greens and sautéed mushrooms rounded out the meal. Do save room for dessert...the chocolate cake is a mile high and the coffee in the icing was a nice twist. Great service by Ashley. For executive lunches and high-stakes dates, avoid this place. Instead of getting a steak medium rare, I was delivered a lump of charcoal. I asked for another steak and the water brought it back saying the steak was medium rare in the inside. I checked it: it was beef jerky encased in charcoal. If you have an executive meeting, or a high stakes date, this is, obviously an embarrassing, buzz-killing event. If you are on a budget and you don't staff who think their opinion about the food is more important than yours, then this place is for you. It's Friday night, and we were a group of 12 young women celebrating a friend's birthday. We got a decent amount of drinks and food- they were okay. It's dessert time and the best friend of the birthday girl was asked by the waitress if we wanted anything sweet- as the birthday girl is gluten free and the waitress said no desserts were gluten free- the waitress suggested birthday shots. The waitress did not state price or quantity and made it seem like a gesture of generosity on a pretty BIG bill. She only got a nod from the best friend as no one else asked for shots. They brought us 12 MINI and luke warm shots of Paloma and charged us about $130. It was not a gesture of generosity in the absence of a gluten free dessert for the birthday girl....we were in SHOCK. We politely disputed. They took ONE "birthday shot" off. We had to politely dispute again, and again.... The "manager" then came over and tried to gaslight us into believing they were straight tequila shots and that they DID have gluten free desserts and that we were making things up. They did end up removing all of the birthday shots after maybe 30 minutes of back and forth and many upset customers. Very disappointing. Advise to customers: pay close attention to your bill Advise to management: please don't try to gaslight 20 year old women and take advantage of your customers. The food was okay. The service was borderline abusive. Below is the photo of the "birthday shots" they tried to charge us for and then convince they were big drinks of "straight" tequila. I wish I was exaggerating. We ordered several things including the breakfast plate, the Roberta Armstrong dip with biscuit chips, biscuits, a cocktail, a latte, and the prime rib sandwich. Everything was phenomenal. Chose this restaurant for our date night and we're pleasantly surprised to find a same day reservation! We arrived a bit early and ended up sitting at the bar for drinks. We enjoyed the atmosphere at the bar quite a bit and decided to sit up there for dinner. The actual dining room consists of 4-5 long family style tables where every party is sitting next to others. To start, I ordered the "Do Some Thym" cocktail. It was alright 5/10. I didn't realize it was frozen, otherwise probably wouldn't have ordered it. A bit too sweet for my liking. For our meal, we decided to split the 16oz strip steak and 3 sides, so we could try them each. The steak was 10/10 on flavor!! I loved watching them cook all the steaks on the open flame grill they have! The fusilli mac & cheese was TO DIE FOR!! 15/10. Definitely in my top 5 mac & cheese spots around town. The thick bacon was honestly underwhelming... the other reviews hyped it up but I think it missed the mark. 6/10 on it due to the texture and flavor. Maybe it's just because I'm a crispy bacon gal?! Finally, the loaded baked potato 8.5/10. Nothing super special about it other than a delicious, standard side. Well executed and flavorful, but we were pretty full by then and didn't eat much of it. Overall, we will definitely go back. The space is well done, atmosphere is nice and servers were all busy but friendly. Maie Day is another recently opened restaurant in Austin that has increased the awareness that we are a city to be reckoned with when it comes to the food game. We thoroughly enjoyed the lively ambiance (although, it is a tad too loud), the delicious food and the attentive service we received from Olivia. To be clear, I have dined at restaurants in L.A. that have actual community seating with long tables that are not separated, so I was a little confused when we entered Maie Day as the tables are long and could be connected, but they are not. So, I think community for them, means ton of tables in a shared space with no booths or private seating and also the shared plate theory. The plates are huge and all are meant to be shared, so if you come with a party of 2, you will not have the option to try multiple dishes. However, for parties of 4 and larger, you have more options as we did. We started with the smoked fish dip with homemade ritz crackers and let me say that I wish these ritz crackers were the ones sold in stores. They were so good, but they only give you 4 crackers for a good amount of dip so we requested more and noticed they charged us an additional $3! The crab claws are served with a small piece of crusty bread for dipping in the sauce which could have used a tad bit more garlic and butter. We used to love the blooming onion at Outback Steakhouse so, for nostalgia reasons, we had to order it and it was really, really good. Again, they skimped on the sauce and we were charged an additional $1.50 for extra sauce. For our main meal, we chose the butterflied 'n grilled fish (red snapper), prime rib, grilled mushrooms, loaded baked potato and Texas chocolate cake. For spirits, we chose a bottle of Tempranillo and it went with all of our food choices. Although it was a tad annoying to be nickled and dimed for the extras without prior disclosure, I now know what I am in for when we visit again. read more

Y'all. I went back one night recently because we were up this way on congress. The food was all good and the staff was REALLY great (mostly). The hostess was sort of rude when we asked if they had a table. She actually laughed. The place was dead, it was strange. But then a man came over (maybe the manager?) and said he'd make it work. Wish I could give it 5 stars this time but this really threw me. Our server was great. They were training a new server. Both great. The food was good as mentioned. The Mac and cheese even was to die for and I was able to find 1-2 small things that were lighter. Though they had no kids menus my littles were able to get things they loved. Eating with kids when the restaurant was nearly empty sort of made up for how crowded the tables are and how uninteresting I found the decor. read more

The heading here is $6 ICE TEA REFILL!! Seriously, they charged me that. Took my in laws here from out of town. Father in law orders an already overpriced ice tea and asked for a refill. We get the bill and he's charged twice. I ask the waiter, "you charged us for two ice teas?" He says, "I can take one of those off." You can? Did he do that intentionally? Gee thanks, guy. On to the food. Started with a Caesar salad. So incredibly drenched in dressing that it was inedible. Told the waiter and asked if we could get a new one with light dressing. He said no problem and that it would be no charge for the salad. He brings out a new salad with the same amount of dressing so we pushed it aside. And when we get the bill he still charged us for it so had to call him on that too. Ribeye steak and Mac and cheese were pretty fantastic. My chicken fried steak was smothered in overly-salty gravy, green beans were cold and soaked in dressing/sauce, creamed corn was a minuscule potion and very bland, and my mother in law's chicken was undercooked. Also, I guess they had a kids menu at some point but not anymore, so we ordered a bowl of fries for our 4 year old. Something in the food gave me an upset stomach the entire day following and I'm guessing it was the corn, since I was the only one who ate it. We don't plan to be back anytime soon. read more

I really enjoyed this spot!! The decor and ambience is fun and lively, our server was extremely friendly, and it's so nice that they validate parking in the hotel garage. But what really impressed me was the food! Along with two glasses of a great California cabernet, we tried: -the pineapple cornbread muffins with sorghum butter--these were delicious, super moist and a great bite to tide us over until our mains -the tahini grilled green beans--I was obsessed with these...first of all, they give you a mountain of them, we had enough left over to take a large portion so it felt like a really good value. But honestly if I were just served the green beans alone I could've eaten them all, they were SO good and perfectly cooked, crisp-tender, and the tahini sauce was perfect -the mac and cheese--no joke this was the best Mac and cheese I've EVER had. The crunchy buttery breadcrumbs on top were game changing and I love the fusilli noodle shape to catch all the cheese sauce -the tenderloin--super tender, perfectly cooked and seasoned, and a great size so we were able to eat it all without having to cut off any gristle like you do with some bigger cuts -the butterflied market fish (ours was red snapper) with kale gremolata--again, best red snapper I've ever had!! And plenty of it, we took a filet home for leftovers! The kale gremolata was the perfect accompaniment and a bright bite in between indulgent bites of mac and cheese :) We didn't have any room for dessert but I want to come try some, they all sounded delicious! read more

Whatever you do, save room for the best chocolate cake in Austin! The size justifies the price and it's easily splittable for 2-4 people, it's amazing and I would go back just for this! I'm very bummed out to write this! I am not typically one to complain or write critical Yelp reviews, but this experience has left a lasting impression on me and I have zero plans to return back to Maie Day, unfortunately. :( I tagged along with a group of girlfriends for dinner a few weeks ago. I thought the Cobb salad sounded delicious and refreshing, hefty price tag aside ($25 for a salad....zoinks). I mostly just eat chicken and seafood, so I asked the server if it would be possible to leave off the ham and bacon from this salad. I let her know that it was no big deal if not, and that I could pick around those items, but I just hate willingly wasting food! She made a comment as to how the chef doesn't like to customize the dishes, but returned to say that she confirmed this would be allowable. When my salad arrived, all that was in the bowl was greens, chicken and dressing. There was no tomato, avocado or hard boiled egg to be found. Clearly there was miscommunication in that she thought all I wanted was *chicken* and no other ingredients. But alas, I was starving and let my server know that it appeared to be more of a Caesar salad (I thought the dressing tasted Caesary but apparently it was indeed Green Goddess as the menu states), and that I would eat it but wanted it to be properly reflected in my bill. The Caesar salad at Maie Day (plain, no chicken) goes for $16. When bills arrived, I was still charged the full $25 for a Cobb salad. I asked my server again about the mistake, to which she said she would check on that, and then a manager came out to chat with me. The manager basically told me no such luck, they can't charge me any less since I asked to alter the salad in the first place. So, I got punished for asking for any alterations and essentially paid more money to have only ONE ingredient in my salad. I left Maie Day feeling so annoyed and frustrated. I love supporting the Austin food scene and have never had a bad experience, but this one has left me super disappointed. The food itself was decent, and my friends were mostly pleased with their meals, but I don't intend to return after feeling so defeated, ripped off and ultimately not valued/heard as a customer who was trying to be kind and understanding. (I was also still really hungry after eating my "salad" and had to hit the P Terry's drive-thru on the way home, if we're being honest!) read more

Nice vibes, ok service, but there are better places to eat on South Congress. The food is oversalted, overdressed, and much too rich. We ordered a Caesar salad that was drenched in salty dressing. The first taste was fine, but the leaves wilted under the weight of the dressing and the croutons, which were not whole but crumbled, became a mealy mess on top of the leaves. The salad was inedible. The prime rib sliders were decent and the au jus was delicious but the prime rib was cooked to well done instead of medium rare. And did the tiny slider need two tablespoons of horseradish cream? I wanted more horseradish taste and less mayonnaise. The chicken fried steak was too salty. The "award winning" queso was fine but had the ultra-processed taste of Velveeta. The best part of the meal was perhaps the biscuits with honey butter. Flaky, warm, and soft. Something that let the simple ingredients shine. Maie Day suffers from the Pepsi paradox. Just like how Pepsi is preferred for the first sip in taste tests but Coke is preferred when drinking a whole can: each dish tastes good on the first bite but then your body can only take so much fat, cream, and salt. There's fun but no balance on this menu, to the point where the excess becomes inedible. read more

We both agreed these were a treat and something we don't normally get on Austin menu's. Next, we ordered a Caesar salad. Good salad! Not anchovyish. Giant portion. Could feed 4 people. Then we split the prime rib and a blooming onion. The prime rib was cooked perfectly. We asked for it at medium rare and we're told it only comes medium. It was perfect at medium. The blooming onion is big too! This would be shared with a table. Another thing I don't see on many austin restaurants menus but it was definitely a great pairing with the prime rib. If you haven't ordered the Mac n cheese you haven't experienced Maie Day. I loved this venue even when it was Central Standard but the glow up to Maie Day is real. I am so happy they kept the oysters on the menu (I stand by them being the best oysters in ATX) they have a spicy and regular mignonette that can't be replicated! I cannot rave about their Mac and cheese enough. They have absolutely nailed the classic mac that you crave when you think comfort food. Their pork chop is no sleeper either. Probably in my top 2 pork chops of my life. When it came out I thought they messed up and gave us a steak, it was SO juicy and perfectly seasoned. After waiting a few weeks to give the staff a chance to find their groove after opening, we tried Maie Day for date night. Staff was dialed in. The manger and chef (multiple James Beard finalist Michael Fojsatek) actually checked on our table. We tried the crab salad with fantastic homemade ritz crackers and Tabasco, the fresh tomorrows, the plain salad (which was perfect with the citrus pecan vinaigrette) and the strip steak (perfectly MR). We'll definitely return with friend as much of the food is served in sharing portions. read more

Just went here for dinner, I have previously been to Central Standard many times and it looks the place is very similar but more vibrant, the atmosphere was similar yet cute, I will commend that. We split 2 appetizers, 4 sides and 2 entrees between 5 people, as well as multiple drinks. I would recommend sharing and trying a bunch; the food was okay - with other similar places in Austin (such as Vixens Wedding, Hestia, Salty Sow, etc.) I would say there are better options as far as well done, high end shareable dishes. Drinks were great; maybe choose this spot for some drinks and a small snack! One huge negative is that the air conditioning had been broken for 2 weeks (they had been training and preparing to open for 1 and open for another). I understand that this is a chaotic time and they are just getting on their feet and getting kinks out but you would think a few fans for circulation and some better options on attempting to better the situation would be attempted after 2 weeks, especially at this restaurant's price point and competitors. I am awestruck at both the absence of 5 star reviews and existence of poor reviews. Maie Day is incredible. We started with the tuna with citrus marmalade as well as the tartare (not pictured). The citrus marmalade was INCREDIBLE paired with the fresh tuna. For mains, we went with the strip cooked to a perfect medium rare with mac & cheese and green beans. Dessert was their seasonal cheescake. We paired our meal with a sauvignon blanc to begin and a pinot noir with the mains, both delicious. Our server, Guin, was lovely! She paced our meal perfectly (no small task in a busy section on a friday night). The ambiance on the patio was perfect, and they kept it surprisingly cool for July in Austin.
