While we were walking the Arts and Crafts Loop near Gatlinburg (I HIGHLY recommend this as well), we noticed this wonderful-looking restaurant nestled away in the green forested hills across the street. We opted to come back here for dinner on our last night in the Great Smokey Mountains. Sooooo glad we did! Owned and operated by a European couple, the Red Oak has the ambiance of a quaint European restaurant that one would find tucked away in the Alps. While the inside atmosphere is wonderful, we chose to sit outside to enjoy the very quiet and beautiful forested hills of Gatlinburg. Service was incredible and very European - they told us they would not bother us unless we asked for something and that the table was ours for the evening. Yep...we stayed there for three hours, sipping our wine and trying various dishes of exquisite flavor. I'd like to say try this or try that, but to be honest: all the dishes we tried were absolutely phenomenal. We cannot wait to try this place again!

We had a bottle of Orin Swifts "Eight Years in the Desert" (great wine list), and ordered three tapas plates...all extraordinary and delicious! We got bone in ribeye (tough & had lots of gristle) & filet (tough & undercooked). For the price of these steaks you'd think they'd be much better. Also, be prepared to sit for 2 hours from drinks to meal (no appetizers or desserts). On a positive note, The Dylan drink was amazing.

I immediately double checked, and it was mine. This is a nice smaller gem of a nice resturant, my drink "The Dylan" was an experience, flaming smoke chips i blew out, they put my glass over the smoke, then poured in the drink. My family was wondering how much that would cost, I didn't care it was good... found out at end it was just $15, if I knew I would have ordered alot more. Pork belly scallops were very good but the 2 scallops seemed like one cut on half but the sauce made up for it, and the pork was great. Lemon sorbet palette cleanser was so good people in my group asked for it for dessert as well Lobster bisque was one of the better ones I have had anywhere. Multiple people ordered filets with different finishing sauces, everyone liked theirs. I ordered the porterhouse and enjoyed every bite. Wish I lived closer, definitely worth the trip

Haven't had pastrami in a while so I had to order the Pastrami Reuben and the presentation was great with how it was stacked! Between the sauce and the sauerkraut the flavors were all good and I enjoyed the taste of the pastrami when I found it, but the bread to meat ratio was so high I mostly tasted the burned crust of the bread and very few bites of pastrami. It was one slice of pastrami, not a thin slice but not what you hope for when you bite into true Jewish deli pastrami, which are normally bursting at the seems with meat. Marble rye is hard not to burn and they did a good job for the most part, but I tasted more crust than I did pastrami, and for $18 I wonder if this sandwich was more a charge for the hype. The blintzes were also smaller than one would expect of a blintz but I absolutely loved the compote on top.
