I'm not that big of a Pho fan, wait, let me explain....I'm not a big soup eater, so Ramen doesn't rank for me either. But when I am sick, pho is a definite go-to for me. Mama Pho is hubs' favorite pho place on the East side, and knows his order #17, a Mama Pho special. I wound up horribly sick and congested, and hubs offered to pick me up Pho. I know I can't really finish a whole thing of pho by myself, so I phone ordered his #17 with extra soup and extra noodles (additional cost of around $5) and it basically supersized our order, enough so that we both had pho and there was a little left for me for the next day. (I know, some will be appalled that I would allow my noodles to sit in the soup overnight, but it works for me). I added as much hot sauce paste as they gave, and it cleared me right up. Mama Pho has a really tasty broth, and the meat is also tasty, you can sub egg noodle if you don't like the traditional noodle, and they are quite friendly there, definitely one of the better pho places on the East side. read more

Possibly the cleanest pho restaurant EVER?!? Stopped by mama pho on way to the east side of the island because little lady was hungry. Soon as we walked in we noticed how clean the restaurant was. Not the typical Vietnamese pho feeling so had some doubts. The people here are friendly, the place is very clean and aesthetically nice and the food is goof. I would like it more if the pho broth had more taste, but if you're craving pho and don't want to drive to town it's not terrible. Just needs a dash more flavor. I use the sriracha and chili paste to give it that extra bump. Parking is readily available in Aina Haina Shopping Center so it's a very close walk from parking to the restaurant. Don't be fooled by the name. Mama Pho has a whole lot more than Pho. Tonight we ordered summer rolls, vegetarian spring rolls, winter rolls, ceviche salad and the lemongrass chicken. Everything was fresh and delicious. The winter rolls (think summer rolls with tofu instead of shrimp) were not my favorite but I prefer shrimp to tofu. To be clear, I didn't dislike them...just preferred the other items. The lemongrass chicken was new for me and I really enjoyed it. Only recommendations to improve: when ordering spring rolls, ask for extra lettuce and cucumbers. Mint would be great too. A fantastic meal at a great price. This place was great! I had a really nice time with a beautiful lady :) Oh and the restaurant was great too. We were initially seated in the center isle, which wasn't the preference of my lady. Without us even saying anything our server cleaned off a nice wall table (that just opened up) and moved us over. Ahhh (relief) much better. Updating and re-giving 5 stars for service and take out preparation, but request peanuts on the side if needed. For me, I especially enjoyed the brisket pho ($14.5) and would a side order of broth ($3.5 in house or $7 to go because of larger 16oz bowl); while the kids enjoyed the beef broth and side of broth and noodles ($2) for them for a fair price. My hubs doesn't crave Vietnamese but enjoyed the Lemongrass Chicken Rice Plate so jasmine rice, small salad, slivers of fried tofu ($15.75), pricier now but a little more food added. My daughter was surprised with the Grilled Beef and Spring Roll Vermicelli Bowl for a nice balance of crunchy and soft. She wanted more spring rolls as they were on the smaller side ($15.75). I absolutely love mama pho. The flavor of the broth is good on its own. No extras needed except some spice. The restaurant is clean, waitstaff are friendly, and you receive your meal really quickly. Honestly, the group was in some MAJOR need of a pho situation after some fun in the sun, and Mama Pho hit the spot. With a group of 12, we thought it'd be a bit of a nightmare to get seated, but the staff here were patient and accommodating. We ordered the shrimp spring rolls and papaya salad to share (both used extremely fresh shrimp), and I ordered the seafood pho for myself. The seafood pho was packed with flavor, and I didn't need to add any additional sauces or flavorings. The staff came by often to refill the waters and check in on us. With how packed they were that particular night (aside from our group), I was impressed. So why one knock on the rating? The pieces of seafood that were real seafood in my pho was great...but it was also packed with fish balls and lobster balls which were fake meats and not so great. Eat here fairly often,. Pho is above average flavor and the special volcano sauce is good but you need to ask as they do not give it out or offer it. Portions are on the small side and they forgot half of my meat on my last order. I ordered 2 orders of pho with meat balls and rare steak combination. Total bill came to $25 kinda pricey. I also tipped them a dollar on a take out which I now regret. I called them when I got home and got an apology and they asked for me to come back and they'd give me meat balls. I'm not interested in driving back for failed service. I told them to expect a Yelp review and he didn't seem care. So in summary. Decent food, smallish portions, missing food, and need to request sauce if you know about it. Only reason I continue to go here is because of the convinence. Next time I will ask them to check my order completely in the restaurant before leaving. I suggest everyone to do the same. read more

First time eating at Mama Pho. It was pretty good. The restaurant is nicely decorated and can seat large groups. I ordered the papaya salad, fried chicken wings, summer rolls and rare steak pho. I did share the appetizers with others, just to be clear! I had to take a picture of the papaya salad because the presentation was so nice. The sauce dishes and the pho bowls were higher quality than you would expect at a pho restaurant, nice touch. The pho bowls are extra big so you don't have to worry about spilling any broth while putting in all of the accoutrements, i.e. basil, bean sprouts, lime, jalapenos. The pho broth was a little bit more cloudy than I'm used to, but certainly not off-putting. There were two servers that regularly checked back with us to refill waters and ask us how everything tasted. They were very friendly. I thought it was great that they separated the noodles and broth for my leftover pho to go! This is a nice spot for pho if you're in the Aina Haina area! read more

I can't believe I haven't done a review for Mama Pho yet. They're my favorite, go-to neighborhood Vietnamese restaurant! I loveee their pho, vermicelli, and rice dishes! My go-to pho is usually the rare beef slices, which cook in the hot broth. Mama Pho's broth is not too salty and yet delicious, and I love adding a squeeze of lemon, some Thai basil leaves, and a handful bean sprouts from the plate they give you. Their veggies always taste so fresh. I've also had their veggie pho, meatball pho, and tofu pho. All are solid! I think tofu pho would be my second favorite. I'm a huge fan of their grilled tofu dishes, both with rice and vermicelli noodles. They are generous with garlic (love!) and the flavors of lemongrass and other spices are on point. My dad has tried their meat dishes as well and really enjoyed the both pork and chicken. Overall, this is an amazing spot when you're craving Vietnamese cuisine! The place is new and clean and the service is pretty good here. I ordered the spring rolls and chicken pho. The spring rolls only came with 2 rolls, which were alright but not the best I've had. The chicken pho was pretty big! It came out in a huge bowl, which was surprising. The pho itself was alright, not super flavorful. The noodles were clumped together, which was sorta disappointing.. Overall, nothing super great, but not horrible either. I think I'll stick with my hale vietnam pho bowl for now. read more

My experience at Mama Pho was nothing special. They have a good menu of items and the prices aren't so bad. My friend and I ordered the beef pho and the chicken pho with tofu. They gave us plenty of basil and bean sprouts. After we finished garnishing our fragrant noodle soup, we sipped the broth and it was way too SWEET! I have never tasted anything sweet in pho except for the hint of sweetness that hoisin adds to it. On top of that, our broth wasn't hot enough. I couldn't finish mine, but my friend didn't want to waste his money so he reluctantly slurped his down. The service was actually very good, our waiter was very attentive, but the sweet and lukewarm broth left us unsatisfied. Dined here for lunch with my parents last week and we loved it! We're pretty picky when it comes to our pho, as pho restaurants on Oahu are a dime a dozen and we've been to enough of them to know exactly what we like and don't like. Some things we like: RESTAURANT CLEANLINESS, tasty, clear pho broth with little to no MSG, super fresh produce, seafood, meats, and the usage of white meat chicken in their pho ga. Mama Pho delivered beautifully on everything! The place is sparkling clean. Service was friendly and prompt and the food was simply delicious! I highly recommend ordering the sampler appetizer platter to nibble on while waiting for your pho. It features spring and summer rolls, a fresh vegetarian roll and tasty chicken wings. My father and I both thoroughly enjoyed the chicken pho and my mom (who is the hardest nut to crack) had the barbecued pork with spring roll on vermicelli which she proclaimed was the best she'd ever had. You can tell that the owners take great pride in their restaurant, from the shining cleanliness of the place, to the freshness of the food, to the nice way food is presented on real plates (no cheap melamine bowls here!) Yay.....Mama Pho's finally opened! Okay, actually I'm not a big fan of Pho(Yeah...I pronounce it as "FO" - wrong I know, as my daughter keeps correcting me, "its FAH dad!) I usually get the Lemongrass chicken at other Pho places, while my daughter always get the noodles. So this place is finally open and we've decided to try it out. My daughter gets the Pho with noodles and meatballs (YA MEATBALLS....I didn't know they put meatballs in PHO???) and I get.....the lemongrass chicken, OF COURSE! At the recommendation of the waitress, I also get a side order of GRILLED BEEF.(Thanks Aja!) Food comes out and my daughter's bowl is FAH-REEKIN HUGE! Holy crap! That's a big bowl of noodles! And of course it comes with another plate of greenery (vegetables) to put in the Pho. Mine comes out and it smells AWESOME! The grilled beef starts making my mouth water, it looks so good! The lemongrass chicken plate also came with a small MOUNTAIN of rice, some greenery(salad - although I'm not a big fan of the veggies) and I think it was fried tofu??? Not a fan of tofu, so I didn't try it. Also came with the yellow sauce. I'm not sure what it was, but it sure tasted DEE-LISH! (It kind of looked like pee in a cup) the chicken tasted great and wasn't dry, like some other ones I've tried at other Pho places. The beef was **heavenly** MMMmmm....so tender....melt in my mouth. Needless to say, I wolfed it down in 5 minuted flat! I can't comment on the noodles, but my daughter liked it. We will definitely be back.
