Very authentic Taiwan Food. Came across this place with a friend. The place is very not noticeable when driving through crowds of other restaurants that were nearby. It's inside a center. Parking can be bad if you want to park close to the place. Parking is a bit small and tight. Food: Ma Pao Tofu-- Original and authentic real ma pao tofu!!! This place actually put the Ma Pao in their dish. If you don't know it's the taste that makes your mouth faintly numb. Some people like the taste of it, I personally don't really. Usually other places that hasMa Pao Tofu doesn't have it in their dish because they're cheap or they know most people don't like the feeling..not sure. But this place does. It's spicy enough and faintly numbing enough for my mouth to handle. Kung Pao Chicken--It's good. Has enough ingredients (chicken, peanuts, water chessnut..etc) for the dish. I've eaten this in other restaurants and the ingredients were missing or not enough on the dish. They give you rice by the bowl. You can always ask for more rice once you've finished your rice in your bowl. When they asked what we wanted to drink. I asked for tea. Seating wise---it gets cramped and sometimes you have to share a table with random person. It gets a bit awkward especially when I went, there wasn't a lot of people talking. I did a three order takeout yesterday: stinky fried tofu, salt and pepper pork chops (turns out it comes with rice) and shredded pork fried rice cakes. I am addicted to the stinky tofu, divided it on two meals and finished it off. Reheat in pan on stove will revive the crispness. The sauces spicy red and dark thin sauce are most delicious dip for the tofu. The rice cakes do not taste Shanghainese. Maybe this place is Taiwanese so that is why. The rice cakes comes with carrots, napa and shitake mushrooms. They felt a little hard to eat. But the next day I microwaved them and they softened and felt quite tasty with the sauce. So I ate them all. The pork chops are a little disappointing: the meat is not high quality (only cost $8 or so with rice) and not like Shanghainese, much darker color. But they seemed to have their own flavor with chili peppers. I always thought this place was Shanghainese so I got the wrong impression of the food. Now I know. Knife cut dry spicy beef noodles, spicy spare rib noodles, and chili/red oil wontons are my favorite at Mandarin Deli! There's a good amount of heat and acidity in these dishes, and the noodles come with cabbage, pickled greens, and tender beef. I've also had their fish filet and cabbage noodles and spicy flavored beef noodles (both are soups), as well as their minced meat noodles (aka: zhajiangmian or jjajangmyeon). All have been very good! Note: the noodles are the star of the dishes. They take phone orders, but I recommend ordering in person while pointing on the menu if you don't speak much Mandarin. Cash only and SUPER affordable. But this place still gave you the whole chop. Fast service. As with typical taiwanese deli's, you get things super quick when ypu order the usual fair. CONS The chicken from Chicken leg rice was a bit dry. I think maybe we were the last table of the night and the chicken they had has been there. I was expecting spiciness but instead it was flavorful and non spicy. The portion was generous and for the price of a burger you can't go wrong here for lunch. Seeing this tiny non-descript almost divey looking place in Chinatown, you would never guess how excellent the cooking is. They really know their flavors. REALLY KNOW THEM! There only a handful of tables, though I have yet to find it crowded. Cash only. No alcohol. But wow! The pot stickers are delicious. The wonton soup is great. Wish they had crispy noodles for us white boys. The Kung Pao chicken is not specifically spicy, like at most places, but it has a very good taste. The scallion/green onion pancakes are delicious and not greasy. The string beans are quite good. The shrimp in garlic sauce was spicy and tasted very good. Not the Americanized Chinese garlic sauce but still good. Tried the spicy rice which was listed amongst the fried rice. Thought it was going to be spicy fried rice. It was actually spicy pork in sauce on top of white rice. It didn't look appealing, especially considering what I thought I had ordered. Well, I tried it and immediately had to comment how well this place knows their flavors. It was very tasty, indeed. The Dan Dan Noodles were also good. The first time I went, the pot stickers and green onion pancakes were so good, I ordered an extra order of each to take home for the next day. I've been craving zhajiangmian and my sister would usually buy from this place! It's a local mom & pop shop. They make everything in house and hand press their own dumplings. Upon my visit it was just then two pressing dumplings away. I placed an order for dumplings & zhajiangmian. It's a rather big portion of noodles that could feed two people. I would say I remember it being more flavorful before and had a bit more meat. I know once it's mixed it doesn't look so appetizing but it's still taste better than it looks. It's minced beef mixed in the black bean sauce and onion with cucumbers on the side. Big portion of noodles, chewy. I ordered fried dumpling but they weren't really fried. You're better off with the boiled/steamed one. Dumplings itself were good. Feeling is great. They also sell them frozen too. The place is cash only. Highly recommend calling in first. I still had to wait a bit but I arrived earlier than expected. Nevertheless, trying to support local businesses & specifically mom & pop places. As Elite Yelp Reviewer, I am disappointed to give Mandarin Deli 1 star. I happen to place dinner takeout order. I ordered House Special Chow Mein, which is an assorted meats with noodles. When I got home, I got 2 pieces of small shrimp, moldy slices of lop chong sausage, and about 4 small slices of dried ham! What happened to the chicken, beef, pork? I tossed it away. I know many places are struggling but to serve old meat and charge me a premium price is unacceptable. Fortunately, I did not get sick. I try to support these small food businesses but not at risking my health. Will not be returning. I am so sorry for writing this review, but beware. read more

I had the dry spicy noodle and also took an order of potstickers. The sauce in the dry spicy noodles had enough Sichuan peppers to numb my mouth for about half an hour. Be aware of this if you order this or don't know. I love spices and peppers, so for me it was perfect. The noodles were fresh and perfectly chewy. The beef was seasoned perfectly. I came here after reading Tiffany C's review because it's exactly what my wife likes, Chinese comfort food! The restaurant is small, so I suspect lunch and dinner are pretty crowded, as the prices are quite reasonable and the food is plentiful. Remember to bring cash though, as there is no plastic accepted. The tried the recommended spicy beef noodle, which was just what I was looking forward to, spicy, but not numbing hot. Because lent just started, the wife could not share in the goodness, so she had noodles and English cucumbers for crunch. We share the green onion bread, which was just the right temperature, and something I could eat anytime. We had a lot of food leftover, so we packaged it up for today, as the sauce allows the noodles to soak in even more of the flavor, just like spaghetti tasting better the next morning! Hello my Yelpies, Hole in the wall! I can't believe I've never notice this place until now. Parking is very convenient, it is located in the same plaza as "Dollar Tree" and other small restaurants. Most of the time there's lots of spaces but it can get a little pack when it's during lunch hours. I work very close to this plaza so I come here quiet often. First thing first, this is CASH ONLY!! So definitely make sure you come prepare. It is a small cozy Chinese restaurant. They have very authentic Chinese food, such as the most famous Beef Noodle Soup to Fried Rice. I of course order their Beef Noodle, what I like the most about this place is their hand cut noodle. It is quiet difficult to find places that serves that, their beef was extremely tender, the soup was well flavor and the portion was excellent with the price you pay. I usually love going to "Mandarin Noodle House" not too far from here on Garvey but that place is definitely robbing my wallet every time I go there. So, as for a great alternative this place definitely keeps my tummy full and my wallet tight. I can't wait to come back and try their other dish. Their service was great, if I'm not wrong the woman (may be the owner) is always greeting everyone with a big smile. She made me feel like I was at home eating my grandma's beef noodle soup, which is why I gave it a 5 stars. But the owner asked me to bring it back, which i touched already. I said if i walked back, i didn't have enough time as i am working. She said i needed to bring it back so that she can give my veggie to the customer and i can get my shrimp one. Oh my god... That is not the right way to do. What is worse, she said you can keep that one and next time i order one more time, then she will charge me for the veggie one. So the fault will be on me. How come an owner makes a mistake and ask customer to bear the fault. If so, it turns out i eat something i don't like and still go to your place one more time. That's ridiculous. Where do I even start. Lets start with food. Food. Their food is actually GREAT. Delicious is all I have to say, IF they get your order correct. We ordered the spicy won tons and I would NOT recommend it. There is no filling at all. Please see the picture. Service. I came here Wednesday night and the yelp page said they close at 9:30. It was not even 8 when I walked in. There were two ladies that were attending the front of the restaurant and one of them was straight sleeping. Please see the picture. 99 percent positive she is the boss. So we were sat down and the lady that was sleeping was awakened by the chef or whoever in the back and took our order. The order however was completely wrong and when the chef brought the food out we told them it wasn't what we order and the chef came out and asked us and shook his head as if we were wrong. We mention that the lady sleeping took the order wrong and it wasn't our fault. That's why I am putting her on blast. DISCLOSURE: If I was rating based on ALL their menu items I would only give this place 3 stars. However, I really enjoy the following items so I'm sticking to my 4. The best items on their menu I would have to say are: -stewed beef soup noodle -thin onion pancake -pan fried dumplings Those items are musts when dining here. Many of the other items I have tried are bland and lacking in flavor. The beef soup noodle is supposed to be spicy, but I find that some days it's not spicy at all. I love the beef chunks they use for this soup because the fat (if you don't want to eat it) can be easily removed lol. Soup has a nice beef flavor and noodles are delicious. They add a lot of green onion and cilantro and it really enhances the soup. Delicious!! The onion pancake is only good while hot...I usually dip it in a soy sauce & vinegar mix or soy sauce & sesame oil mix. I noticed sesame oil aren't on the tables like at the other location so you'll have to request it. Pan fried dumplings are good, but only fried on one side. My friend had been raving about this place for a while now since we started talking about knife-cut noodles. So, he finally took me here this past weekend and I was blown away. They're very generous with their portions and their dishes are really flavorful. He opted for the pork stir-fry knife-cut noodles, and I got the spicy beef knife-cut noodle soup and both were delicious. What I really liked about the beef noodle soup was that it tastes different from most beef noodle soups I've had - they put the numbing peppercorns in their soup which makes it taste so good and refreshing because it's not like the rest. The restaurant itself is pretty small, and the downside is that they are a cash only restaurant - but, their food is worth every penny. I would love to come back and try their other dishes too. Zhajiangmian: soybean paste sauce, minced meat, tofu, onion, soybean sauce, cucumber, and noodles. The knife cut noodles are made in store and are perfectly chewy. Green onion noodles: fried green onions with oil on top of their knife cut noodles. A good option for vegetarians. Chili oil wonton: house made wontons are on the small side but still good. I personally like knife cut because there are not many Chinese restaurant out there that can perfect the delicious taste of knife cut noodles. The broth is incredibly strong so I don't recommend drinking it. But the noodle is on point and makes you savor for more. The beef is soft and chewy and the napa (veggie) they offer suits the soup well. 3.5 stars I finally got to try this place last night for some beef noodle soup and dumplings. I'm still working my way up on tolerating spicy food, so when I saw that they served spicy beef noodle soup, I definitely had to get that. Spicy beef noodles: The noodles were handmade and the broth was pretty red. To my surprise, it really wasn't that spicy. I can definitely take a medium amount of heat and had expected my broth to be much spicier, but it really wasn't. My boyfriend, on the other hand, said it was spicy but he was able to handle that, too. I've definitely had more meat at other restaurants, but not bad. I've never had it spicy before. Regular beef noodle soup: The broth is different from other restaurants as well. I don't know what it is but it's different. It also came with handmade noodles, plenty of of cabbage and pickled mustard. Vegetable potstickers: These were so good! They're pan friend in green wrappers filled with vegetables. Usually, my experiences with vegetable potstickers were decent, but I liked these. We mixed soy sauce, vinegar and chili and had that as our dipping sauce. Beef pancake rolls: They were quite small and very thin slices of meat. It didn't include hoisin sauce but they added salt instead. It was decent but our order was a little heavy-handed with the salt. This restaurant is pretty small but we were seated around 7:30 pm easily on a weeknight since others have left before we came in. This place may look super small and dinky on the outside, but wait till you try their food. It's to die for!! It's a family run place with fresh noodles! Such friendly people! :) I'm so glad a friend brought me here and let me say this, I am hooked. I first tried their beef noodles in soup. Let's just say, for six bucks, I was blown away by the big proportions! It comes in this humungous bowl with a generous serving of beef and noodles, along with soup. The broth is a little on the salty side, but if you have it with the noodles, they balance each other out perfectly. Beef is always tender and fresh as well! I've also had their scallion pan cake. It's fried to perfection and they hit the spot perfectly. Crispy on the outside, nice and fluffy on the inside. Me likey. My taste buds crave for them all the time.
