What is it about SF and bland pizza? I mean wow this is #5 and it's just not good. I had the Detroit style and it appeared delicious but I was tricked as it was a flavorless mess. Also, I asked the guy for a coke and he said they only had Pepsi but when he went to the cooler, they had Mexican Coke! Why wasn't that an option when I asked for a Coke? I asked him this same question and his answer is we only have Pepsi in cans. But I never specifically asked for a can, I just asked for a Coke. I also didn't see these Cokes displayed with the other sodas either for some reason. Childhood favorite, growing up this was my favorite spot for a mushroom slice. Recently went back with a friend and was mildly disappointed, we ordered a medium mushroom pizza, the guy said "it'll take 30 minutes" and he seemed annoyed, they boxed it up and didn't notify us when it was ready so we waited even longer even though we were right there and they barely sliced the pizza at all so it fell apart really easily. Maybe we got the laziest dude that night, idk. All that being said one mediocre experience won't destroy my memory of this place but I reccomend you just order what slices they have ready, don't order a whole pie. read more

Marcello's is my normal go-to pizza spot ever since moving to SF a couple years ago. Unfortunately, the past several times I've stopped in, the service and pizza have been hit or miss. I went to Marcello's tonight to grab a few meatball/veggie slices for takeout, and when I opened the box at home it looked like my slices exploded. Still trying to figure out why the worker put three fresh slices in the same small box, stacked on top of each other. Pizza is ok. They're big thin slices, and they offer them by the slice as well. They tasted just alright. They're open late though, which is nice and convenient. Thought the pizza isn't amazing, it does hit the spot after a night out and in need for food! Also, there's some tables inside where you can sit with your food and eat. I ordered today and upon delivery immediately called to inform them my order was incorrect. I ordered the Scouty's, Margarita Victor's way, wings, and Caesar salad. My order was 50% correct. I received a cheese pizza and a box full of lettuce with anchovies on top, no croutons. I didn't ask for anchovies. While the site says you can add them for free, I did not. The person (male) answered the phone and I explained the order I placed and what I received. He placed me on a brief hold then came back and told me he completed the order himself and if anything was missing, I was to contact grub hub. I confusingly asked why would I contact grub hub if my order was wrong. I said I have a cheese pizza. I described the pizza and he told me that's how their margarita pizza looks. I told him there was no basil on the pizza and he again told me my order was correct. When I asked about the salad and why there were no croutons he told me, "I'm not the person you should be talking to. You need to contact grub hub." I again told him my box said no croutons on it with anchovies and it was not correct. He got angry/loud and told me, "I'm sorry your 50 cent salad is..." I can't remember what he said after that because I interrupted and told him he was rude, not to worry and I'll be up there. Now I'm on my way to this place after paying for delivery fees and a tip because you don't talk to people that way. Also, don't gaslight me! You work in customer service! If you don't know how to provide customer service , go do something safe because you're going to speak to the wrong person messed up and you're not going to like the response. Nearly 7 years later and I'm finally back for more! (I've been away from Sf for a while.) I wasn't sure what to expect given the time that has passed since my last experience. I anticipated price increases and an even better pizza since there have been about 7 years to polish and perfect the art of pizza making. My expectations were fortunately and unfortunately met. Pizza prices have certainly inflated. Each slice is over $4 now, except for cheese which is $3.86... plus tax. The place is cash only too. There is a citibank down the block and a Bank of America across the street so that's easy enough. So unfortunately pizza here is now longer ~$2 a slice, but fortunately the taste is still realllly good. After dabbing off the 100 calories of excess oil (and don't get me wrong, I don't count calories but sometimes facts stick with me) I enjoyed a decent sized slice of pepperoni. I wish they would have been more generous on the pepperoni. 6 slices barely cuts it. The pizza dough stands out because it is floured, light, and perfectly chewy. The sauce is semi sweet with some tang and the cheese is nicely proportioned without being too stretchy or chewy. The 6 pepperoni slivers were good. I'm removing a star from my review for the stingy dose of pepperoni and because the worker who took our order short changed us $11. We notified them immediately and they quickly said we had given them $10 instead of the $20. Which still wouldn't have made sense since our tab was $8.70 and they only gave us $0.30. Their face flushed which revealed some embarrassment and after both me and my friend confirmed it was in fact a $20 (mind you we had gone to an atm which only distributes 20s) they obliged in giving us the correct amount with an apology. It wasn't a huge deal but it wasn't ideal either. I still recommend this pizza joint and will probably be back again. I just wish it was still a fair price. read more

Last Saturday we ordered a pizza and salad for delivery and after a very bad experience with the delivery service Marcello's saved the day for us and the meal was delicious! The delivery service delivered the meal to an address across town that we had never lived at and hadn't entered into the order (this was the first time we used them). Once we discovered the address error, one of us called Marcello's while the other tried to contact the delivery service who had no phone contact so we were forced to chat with one of their agents online. The delivery service agent was very unhelpful, bordering on rude, and told us that it was already delivered and left outside the front door at the wrong address and they even had a picture of it sitting there on the floor. Who leaves food on the floor like that! All the delivery service agent was willing to do was refund $14.00 of the $57.00 bill! We told him that was unacceptable and that we would dispute the charge. At that point we thought we were out the $57.00 with no food. However, the manager of Marcello's (I believe this name was Alex) offered to remake our meal for FREE as long as we could pick it up. We jumped at that offer and picked it up 1/2 hour later. The Pesto Chicken Salad and large Sausage & Mushroom Pizza were both excellent! I hadn't been there in many years and don't remember it being this good. We really appreciate what Marcello's did especially when the error was not their fault! That is excellent customer service! The delivery service ultimately refunded all of our money when I pursued the error with higher ups but it shouldn't had to be pursued at all. They screwed up. The crust is just right and you can do the all-important New York fold, with your slice keeping its shape. (My fellow NYers know exactly what I mean.) The sauce is perfect - a little sweet but not too sweet - and the cheese and toppings are great. Lot Marcello's also puts out a great Sicilian slice, and there's lots more on the menu, from subs to calzones. You really can't go wrong, whatever you choose, and the folks behind the counter are always friendly. May give it 5 soon but 4 because...Ok I had a long standing grudge from 32 years ago when I used my hard earned tip money to get a pizza delivered to impress a date. (Hey i was young and poor and so was she) Pizza was burnt to a crisp! It wasn't well done, it was cremated to the point where I wondered if an ex was working the oven. I landlined my complaint and the grouchy middle-aged manager said no dice. We ain't coming back. Bring it in if you want me to look at it. Never saw the date again, I kept my word for over 3 decades !!!Slow-forward to last year when at a gathering in the Castro everyone wanted pizza and the Sausage Factory was closed. Let it go they all said, he's in his eighties if he's still alive. (Not wishing anyone dead over a burnt pie but mathematically they were correct) So we ordered and I insisted we pick-up the pies, no delivery. And they were good. I'm not sure what it is or is it me, Marcello's use to have friendly people but now they come off as RUDE. I so love their Pizza and think for me it's the best in SF.
