Every salad I've gotten here has been delicious. Fresh ingredients, and if you don't want an ingredient that is listed in one of their specialty salads you can substitute it no problem. This isn't a cheap salad place, but their salads are pretty big... I usually can't finish mine. It can get busy at lunch time, but I still come and will continue to come here because I love their salads. I like going to this place as opposed to the other location I've been to (560 Mission) just because this location has a lot more seating. Extra points for the cute guys that work here. read more

I'm so glad that Mixt Greens opened up a new location closer to my work. I love their Caesar salad since you have the option on adding anchovies. I know I know, not a lot of people are fans of anchovies, neither was I but with my CS, I'm all for it. Line can go out the door around lunch time but it usually goes by pretty fast. FINALLY. I work in the building and have been waiting FOREVER for Mixt Greens to open. Walking over to the location on Mission and 2nd was too much for me to think about if I wanted a quick lunch - so I've missed out of my Mixt Greens fix for about a year now. Great salads. Great sandwiches. And you can make your own! (which I had not done until recently... and they are much more affordable than I thought...) And a new lunch spot in the neighborhood never hurts - ok, not quite 'new' but newer. Downside to this greatness? The extremely long lines during lunch. Go at 11:30am or after 1:00pm, but avoid at the 90 minutes in between. Otherwise, part of your lunch is spent waiting in line :/ read more

Mixt greens is one of the better salad spots around town. They have a huge array of toppings and lettuces to choose from. I'm generally always satisfied. Cons include a long wait (its a popular spot), sometimes they open up new locations and the previous staffed that was really well trained moves locations and you end up with a bunch of new people who often mess up salads the first couple of months. Pro-tip, try ordering the "Fruity Bean", it's not on the menu, but see if it works. read more

This is the newest location that they've opened, and it took a few months, but I think they've worked all the kinks out. I went in last week and there were a few pre-made salads available and teh lisne was under ten people at a few minutes to noon. by the time I left, the line was longer, but it moved rapidly. Word to the wise - the menu system here is in a small font, high up and behind the workers. This is a place for true salad lovers. The menu is super extensive, the ingredients are incredibly fresh, the price is well worth the quality, the quantity is HUGE. The salad dressings taste unique and fresh. Really incredible salads and I consider myself a salad connoisseur. I'm not a huge fan of the Be Well, i find it a little bland. Love love love the Siam, great vegan option. This is my favorite salad place in the city! Only catch, they are only open on weekdays and only until 3pm. :( :( :( I don't work in the financial district, so it's a PITA to eat here. I wish one of their locations was open past three! They have a sister restaurant called Split Bread that is open in the evenings, but that location has a limited menu and is missing some of my favorite things. So deducted 2 points as it doesn't help me if the salads are amazing if the hours are so limited! Every so often when i work from home i will make the trek from hayes valley on the bart to mixt greens. There is always a long line, but the nice thing is that they do have salads prepped in the fridge so you don't have to wait. My go to place for lunch when I want something healthy. I probably should go here more often instead of having one of the barrage of unhealthy options that are around here. The salad is always fresh, every single ingredient is fresh. IT does cost a pretty penny. Paying 12-14 dollars for a salad is definitely on the high side, but getting lunch anywhere in the city cost that much. Every salad i have had has been pretty good with the cowboy, raw, park, maui being on the top of the list. Mixt feelings about Mixt Greens. I've had both five-star experiences and $12 lunch fails, so I'll go with three stars overall. The bottom line is that Mixt Greens is great when you have a STRATEGY and KNOWLEDGE. Key tips: * Avoid using greens as a base; the balance of greens to fillings is completely off. I recently had a greens-based salad there that sounded delightful in theory, but in practice was a huge pile of greens with a few toppings mixed in. I had to hunt and peck for the toppings and ended up hungry and sad. This was even after I added a protein to the salad (tofu). Their standard green veg-based salads are more suitable for horses or large primates--not hungry people. * Order the grain-based salads. I've now had two good experiences with that. If you go Design Your Own, you pick a grain and a green (which they sprinkle on, it's not a deluge of roughage) + five toppings and dressing. It's much, MUCH more satisfying than the greens. * Come in with a plan! Review the menu online and compose your own salad symphony before you head in. Write it down and refer to it while ordering. Otherwise, you'll throw together a hodgepodge of items that may not work. OR go with one of the premade salads. I think you can sub one ingredient in those, because I recently subbed out chicken and had tofu instead. Employing these strategies, I had a satisfying and healthy salad today: farro, pomegranate dressing, roasted cauli, brussel sprouts, almonds, and apples. Next step is to figure out if I can bring in my own container instead of their plastic ones. I buy lunches most days and feel crappy about the waste generated. read more

I've been working around this area for about four years and I'm super excited about the new salad places opening up. I first came with a bunch of coworkers, but have been back a few times since. The restaurant has a few predefined salads, but it gives you the option of creating your own salad. The lines get long around lunch time, but the workers get it moving pretty fast. The ingredients have always been fresh and they have a very large selection. They also give you a choice of how heavy you want your dressing, so there is a lot of leeway in customizing. I generally order the predefined salads like the maui or the mixed cobb, but I have also created my own. Not overly impressed, but I will probably give them a few more shots based on convenience alone. If you want a healthy option near Rincon center, this is a decent one. The ingredients are good and salads are tasty when made correctly. The only reason I am not currently giving more stars is that the service isn't that great (often salads are made incorrectly and/or they don't give enough protein) and the prices are a bit steep for what you're getting. Also, they only take online orders for deliveries over $150 and takeout over $75 - assuming you order before 10:30am on the right day of the week. I will say that the salads are delicious, but ridiculously overpriced. I got the Bachelor salad, which comes with flat iron steak, herb potatoes, caramelized onions, cherry tomatoes, bread crumbs, and blue cheese in a balsamic vinaigrette. I like how they ask you how much dressing you want and shake it up for you. The steak was deliciously seasoned although a bit over cooked, and the onions and potatoes made for a heavenly combination. When I think about getting a salad it is because I want to eat healthy not because I want to eat my body weight in the form of lettuce. Mixt Greens is a good place to go when you are really hungry while at the same time want to eat relatively healthy. It is a very convenient place to go and quickly pick up a quick bite. I also liked the fact that they were accommodating in the sense that I did not want bleu cheese on one of my salads and offered to put other mixings in at no cost. If you can count on anything, it would be the line at Mixt Greens during lunch hour. The line is always out the door, but it moves pretty quick. The salad makers are machines! If you aren't a line person, go before 12 or after 1pm. My favorite salad is the Be Well salad. It is a vegan salad (I'm not), and I usually add bleu cheese and bacon or chicken. Be Well uses a cilantro jalepeno vinarette (but it's not spicy enough for me, I don't even taste the jalepeno) just has an amazing assortment of awesomeness, like garbanzo beans, lentils, edamame, quinoa, red onion, cucumber, and avocado. Each salad comes with a tiny slice of sourdough bread. You can also get a torpedo roll for $1. (although, when i first asked for one, the newbie cashier just gave it to me, i think he didn't know you charged for them.) Unfortunately, it is really expensive. After adding all my favorite fixings, it comes to about $13 a salad. FORTUNATELY, it can last me for two meals. Other favorite salads are the Cobb and Maui. Another thing I love about Mixt Greens.. their COOKIES! you would have never guessed, but they are amazing!! Chocolate chip is my favorite. Sometimes I need an afternoon pick-me up and just grab a few cookies from there. read more

This location is a block from my office, and I've been getting lunch salads almost every day for the past couple weeks. Don't be intimidated by the out-the-door line, because it moves quickly. My favorite is the seasonal Park salad, but I'm also fond of the Siam (with marinated tofu), Maui, Be Wello, and Hatch salads. The operation is impressive. Salad portion size is good, and the cost, while slightly on the high side, is acceptable given the organic, locally-sourced ingredients, as well as the tip being included. (The employees are said to be so well-compensated that there is no tip jar, nor is there a means to add a tip when paying with plastic.) Room for improvement: 1. Portion size of proteins (chicken, steak, tuna, tofu, etc.) is absurdly small. If it costs $2-6 more, it should be more than a few small pieces. 2. Missing/depleted ingredients. There's an "ingredients we ran out of" board next to the mixing stations that's ostensibly supposed to help inform your choice of salad, but I've only seen it used once. Usually I'm told of a missing ingredient only after someone has already started making the salad I picked. Kind of a bummer if I chose a salad based on an ingredient (I'm looking at you, roasted Brussels sprouts). Some employees catch this with a pre-flight check, but most don't. read more

This is my new favorite place for lunch, especially since they opened the Mission/Spear St location. Creative, yummy salads with ingredients you won't find at just any salad bar (like quinoa, lentils, soba noodles, white-truffle potatoes, and interesting dressings - not just the usual). My only gripes are: 1) unless you get there at 11:00 a.m., you're going to wait a bit. By 12 the line is out the door. And 2) you're going to pay $9-$13 depending on the ingredients you request. Also, 3) they could use more of whatever protein you want (the portions of chicken and ahi tuna are pretty small). Other than that, sooo glad they're in the neighborhood. This is one of my go to lunch spots during the week to find a healthy lunch in the city. It gets high marks for using good quality, locally sourced ingredients and you really need to try to make your lunch unhealthy at this place. The downside are the looooooong lines during lunch and it's complicated make your own salad menu. Don't get me wrong, I love that you can make your own salad, but you literally have to do all this math in your head to figure out how much your salad costs. For $8.95, You can add up to $3.50 worth of toppings on your salad, and depending on the ingredient, it can be either $0.50, $1.00 or $2.00. Any meat or seafood is extra on top of that. I guess the long line gives you time to do the math. The other thing you may realize is that it's hard to make a good filling salad for under $12. Though their portion sizes are good, they really skimp on the amount of chicken they give you. I find they are more generous with the turkey breast. Reading through previous Mixt Greens yelps the story is basically the same plus my recent attempts at a clever opening line and tighter copy: If I were rich with a personal personal chef I'd ask for lots of salads. Epic salads. With tofu for healthy protein and plenty of veggies like cucumber, carrots, peppers. Add some black beans and fruits like oranges and strawberries. Finish with a nonfat dressing like a strawberry vinaigrette. New for this visit: Strawberry dressing on strawberry slices for the win. Can't believe it was less than $9. If i want a sandwich, I order the turkey sandwich-hold the bacon, add avocado. I would say the salads are their specialty, sandos are good but not the best i've ever had. The food is fresh, prepared in front of you, offers seasonal items (ie-heirloom tomatos) , and uses local and sustainable produce. I love their fresh squeezed organic lemonade. The line moves quickly, even though its usually 20+ people long and they will deliver lg orders to my office building. NEG: My only worry is that the salad boxes to-go are huge and could easily be a waste of food. My office building composts so if I don't finish mine, I don't feel too bad about tossing it. However, If you get the dressing on the side, you can eat half of the salad one day, and the rest the next day for lunch. As a consumer, thats your eco responsibility. OVERALL, love em'! I hate to give this place a two star review because their salads are generally delicious. However, I have recently become vegan and I have found pieces of bacon in my salad THREE times! Which makes me believe that the staff is not attentive to cross contamination, as well as possible dietary restrictions of their customers. Not only do I not want to eat bacon, but I have various food allergies and am concerned that I may end up eating something I'm allergic to due to cross contamination. I understand that with the high volume of customers, it may be hard to keep food items separate. However I would appreciate it if the staff was a just a bit more careful. read more

Mixt is somewhere that always sounds good, and it should be good considering the ingredients they offer and the price, but its really hit or miss. I would say their regular salads are more reliably good than their seasonal salads, the Be Well is pretty awesome. It also kind of depends on who you get to make your salad. This food establishment is terrible. It was my first time at mixt greens so I am not familiar with their menu. I ordered the rooster sandwich and noticed that the lady preparing my food forgot the basil pesto. She added thyme dressing to the arugula in the sandwich. And later put on the basil pesto. I found that odd since the menu didn't state thyme in it. When I asked the cash folks if thyme dressing is supposed to be mixed in the sandwich they all looked at me confused. It seems that no one was familiar with that sandwich. One cashier pulled out the menu and read me the ingredients listed on it. I informed her that thyme is not listed and asked if it should be. Both her and the other cashiers had no idea. They asked me if I wanted one re-made and I took them up on their offer. When I saw it re-made, I once again saw the thyme dressing in it. It seemed that the staff was just frustrated at me for asking how the sandwich Is supposed to be. I was pretty sure that the second order didn't put the basil pesto again - one of the listed ingredients in it. The cashier later said that the basil pesto is in the bread and the thyme is supposed to be in it. My question was why would they make the same sandwich the exact same way that was sent back? I was very confused. While I'm not positive about this, I was standing in front of the cashiers and their conversation want something along the lines of why not try something new? The answer to that was haters are going to hate. Seriously? When I told them that thyme is once again in the sandwich (not something I'm opposed to, but just wanted clarification), they then told me that's how it's made in a really annoyed tone. I was even more confused and frustrated at the lack of professionalism. I chose not to give this place a chance again. While thyme isn't something that I don't eat, I think that if I asked them to exclude an ingredient, that ingredient should be excluded. What if I had a food allergy to that? One other reviewer wrote about her concerns with food allergies that this place. I would not go back to this place. read more
