I came here, before heading to Long Beach Airport. This was my first time eating MOD Pizza and it was so good! It's very similar to Pieology but with less toppings. I ordered the Caspian. The Caspian is a BBQ pizza, with BBQ sauce, Gorgonzola cheese, mozzarella, chicken, and red onions. The chicken was 1000 x's better than Pieology's. I added garlic, ricotta cheese and salt and pepper to the pizza. The chicken was large strips, juicy and very flavorful. What sets this place apart is the employees. They were fantastic, from the beginning to end, I haven't been to a place with amazing customer service in a long time. I ordered one of the beers on tap and paid under $15.00. The place is very clean, the bathrooms are clean, with plenty of tables. Utensils, napkins and additional condiments are at a station towards the back, popular pizza choices on the wall and plenty of parking. read more

Another friendly competitor to Pieology and Blaze Pizza hits the neighborhood. The great thing about their preset pizzas is that they have a lot to choose from. However, if this place is mainly to customize your own pizza like all the others, maybe slim down the options? I spent more time looking at the menu than actually customizing the pizza the way I wanted. Anywayyyy, this location is huge with tons of seating and easy to find parking. A big plus is that they have a drive-thru, which the competition doesn't offer. Being that this spot is basically brand new, everything was clean and tidy. Dissecting the pizza itself now... I opted for a regular crust pizza.. BUT it came out super thin. So if you like thin crust, like very thin, get it. But if you opt to get the thicker crust, you'll have to pay a few dollars more. Now for the cheeses and toppings, they're quite comparable to Blaze and Pieology. I do have to give the edge to Mod when it comes to their meats, which are larger and tastier in both my opinion and my gf's. Now the downside to being new perhaps, is that the young girl (Indian?) who customized my pizza left like 1.5 inches of the edges of my pizza topping-less... Basically a valley of crust and she also forgot to dollop my red sauce (fixed after I received my pizza and pointed it out). This is for my fellow Vegans. First off, this place offers a good variety of veggies and vegan sauces. Crust is vegan, they have dairy free cheese which is pretty good . You can look up the allergen info on its website . This pizza was BOMBACIOUS . Secondly, I believe the employee that helped us was Carolina . Beyond appreciative of her. She showed understanding that we do not want any residue of any animal products on our pizza , so was adamant of any other employees touching our pizzas with contaminated gloves . I am happy to say that after giving this location a second chance a few months after their grand opening, they've definitely stepped their game up. The food tasted much fresher, and the folks working seemed to know what they were doing a million times more than before. Also, they offer a gluten free crust now which is incredible. Ok so, my friend and I went here the other day because we were CRAVING Mod pizza . Mind you, we've never been to the Lakewood store, but I assumed because the Mod Pizza in Downey is so good, surely the Lakewood Location would be just as good. How wrong was I. Honestly, I've been to two mod pizza locations, and they never have me good customer service, but this Lakewood Location was even worse. I don't know who the hiring manager is, but they need to either be replaced or start weeding or people because the workers weren't even working together. There were like 6-7 girls working there that day and only one girl was working a long line while one girl in the back kept rolling her eyes and making endless amounts of pizza crusts... actually I forgot the technical term, but she kept flattening the dough when she could have hopped on the line and helped. Then the girl who was making my pizza had an attitude because she couldn't hear what I was saying. I get it, I'm short, she's short, the glass between us is big and the store is pretty loud. But it's how she asked me to speak up that offended me. It was her demeanor, and body language. She could have easily said, "sorry I can't hear you, would you mind speaking up ? " but instead she clapped her hands, told me to do her a favor and speak up. I wish I could describe it better, but after she asked me that my friend looked at me and walked off. Maybe it's a girl thing, we can read between the lines, I don't know. Anyway, when I rang up my food, I saw more girls that were kind of just doing random things, but still no one helped the girl on the line. I used to work at chipotle and when you see long lines like that with one person trying to help multiple customers out, you got to put some things to the side and help out the customers as quickly as you can. Now when I got my food- I ordered a pizza by the way. I was soooo disappointed when I tasted it and the broccoli on my pizza was burnt, my tomatoes didn't taste fresh, and everything just tasted like... mush. It lacked flavor, save for the bbq sauce I got on the side. I mean, maybe it was my fault the pizza didn't taste as good, but when I ordered the same ingredients at this location it just didn't have the same taste. Mod Pizza is a great pizza place to get pizza, salads and beer. I usually frequent the Long Beach Blvd or Cerritos mall locations. I came here today on their grand opening as I planned to have pizza then instead of their soft opening days. I would have enjoyed their 50% off but a free pizza later is also good, their proceeds went towards charity. With the boom of LBX opening along with Whole Foods and the like, I was happy to see lots of people come in today at Mod Pizza. Every worker here is friendly, nice and energetic. No location I've been to has ever been dirty. I usually get a regular mod pizza with a soda and a no name cake. Best part, I don't get the itis after eating all of the food I order! read more

I usually go to Pieology for my custom pizza needs but I decided to give Mod Pizza a shot, and I wasn't disappointed. I could talk about the pizza, but the staff behind the counter is some of the friendliest staff I have ever come across in any chain food restaurant. Lexi, David, and Jewels we're the people responsible for my pizza. Jewels was the first person I talked to and she was very nice and friendly! I was greeted with a smile. So I tried this place on Cinco De Mayo ( yeah I know, but we had tacos the previous night, judge me not). After working up an appetite from playing God of War and about 10 Jell-O shots later we decided to try out MOD. The new LBX is coming along well and the restaurant was only on their second day of opening. I like the look of MOD and the down to earth ambience. The ability to customize your own pizza with a variety of toppings at no additional cost is a win for everyone. My boyfriend and I ordered two MOD's ( 11in pizzas custom for $9.00 per pizza ). The veggies were super fresh and I ordered cilantro, basil, pepperoni, jalapeños, and tomato's with garlic butter on the crust ( would have taken a picture but again I was 10 Jell-O shots in ). Pizza took about 5 mins to cook in the wood fire oven and came out delicious. My boyfriend created some kind of concoction only he would like ( he does this so I won't eat off his plate) but he loved it! The only thing he said could have been better was the grilled chicken which he said didn't taste all the way cooked. We won't hold him to that due to his slight inability to be fully coherent. Fast forward, I tried reheating my pizza in the over second day and it didn't taste as good ( soggy ). I assume because of the baking method and the freshness of the veggies that contributed to it's not good the second day ness. Finally got around to trying MOD Pizza, located at the Long Beach Exchange. OMG! Why did I wait so long? Mod Pizza blew my mind! The best pizza I have ever eaten in my 76 years. I ordered online, which is super convenient, and my pizzas were ready to pick up in 17 minutes. I ordered one thin crust and one cauliflower crust, customized to my liking, and very reasonably priced. Both were so flavorful and generously loaded with fresh ingredients. Truly delicious! My wife & I shared, and still have 3/4's of a pizza left over. Parking is super easy, pizzas were ready as promised, and the staff is super friendly, which is a huge plus. My mom and I went to the "soft opening" today to check out the spot in LB. We've been to the one in Cerritos's and loved it so we figure it'd be just as good. Luckily we were right, and MOD didn't disappoint! Super friendly staff, including the store manager Peter. So very kind and personable! Every employee had a smile on their face and were ready to help without hesitation! What made the experience even better was the fact that no one made a big stink when my mom (who is vegan) asked if they could change gloves to prep her pizza. They happily did it and the gal who helped her was vegan too so she totally understood. And it's awesome and MOD even offers a variety of vegan options! The toppings are authentic & high quality, the best part is it is completely build it they way you like it. Or thy one of their signature pizzas or salads. The servers are friendly and helpful, Ours offered samples of sauces to help us make our decisions. We went in for the training days. What a great group of staff. We have allergies and pizza is usually only half done well. MOD Pizza at LBX was amazing! The dairy free cheese was melted and not looking like straw. It was hard to tell the difference from actual dairy pizza. The gluten free crust was cooked through and not burnt or doughy. They were awesome at using the fresh ingredients. We have never had totally yummy and safe pizza like this before, even at other MOD locations. So the pizza here is good. Been here three times already. What isn't good? The service. First time I was here I almost had my pizzas given to someone else. Not cool. The people taking your orders are all smug and rude. They act like they don't want to be here. Wow. This is the best restaurant in Long Beach. No joke. First, the pizza is amazing. I am gluten free and they have TWO options for gluten free crust, which is so awesome. Second, you can make whatever pizza you choose with all the toppings you want. There's no premium charge for certain toppings or a limit of how many you can get. We create something new (and always good) every time we go, so that makes it fun. The best part about this location is the employees! They are so friendly and happy to help with anything you need. They don't make you feel like you are annoying or bothering them with an outlandish request (I'm sure they do get some). They all have fun, outgoing personalities, and you can tell they enjoy being there. A few co-workers and I met up here after work for some pizza and beer. We had a pretty large group, and I was surprised to see how large the space was! A bunch of them got their own individual/customized pizzas and a good number of pitchers. I'm not sure if they had bottled beer, but on tap, they only had two options (one was Ballast Point and the other I forgot). Here at Mod Pizza, you can choose a pizza from their menu or you can create your own individual/custom pizza, which is what most people tend to get. I like to call this concept "assembly line pizza", similar to what you would find at Subway and Chipotle. You choose your base sauce, meat, cheese, veggies.. and you could as much or as little as you want. Once ready, they pop the pizza in the oven for you and it take under 10 minutes to be ready to eat. The pizza that I made was pretty good and well priced! Overall, this was a cool spot to not only get pizza and beer, but also a good place to hang out with a large group of friends, surprisingly.
