After that incredulously egregious interaction with an employee whom I'm certain is no longer affiliated with MOD Pizza*, amends were made, and I no longer have to fear getting ridiculed by any of their employees for any reason. Following such a debacle in customer service, my visits to this MOD Pizza were much less frequent, and I started patronizing Rubio's Coastal Grill in Lakewood. The recent, sudden, and certainly unfortunate demise of the Mexican fast casual chain caused that location to permanently shutter sans proper farewell. In spite of the rather high staff turnover rate where it seems an employee working one year wouldn't be working the next, the newer employees here have been holding down the fort quite well to stave off closure, a fate that was recently met by MOD's other Long Beach location in Bixby Knolls. I came three times during the month of June, ordering a pizza each time. One was online and two were in person. The first pizza I ordered online was pretty flavorful, but the crust missed the mark in two aspects. The first was that some of the edges were burnt, and the second was that the underside had a pretty grainy texture akin to sandpaper. I suspect there were residues of other customers' pizzas that got stuck onto my pizza while they were being baked in the oven. Either that, or their equipment could have used a deep cleaning. On my second visit, I asked for the crust to be well done, which makes the crust nice and crispy, but also close to burnt, though not necessarily dangerously. My grievances about the crust dissipated, but unfortunately, so did the flavor on this second pizza. Looking back, I don't recall being asked if I wanted some extra seasoning, but I would not chalk it up to that reasoning (yes, the rhyme was intended lol). However, it was enough for me to forgo the well done part on the third pizza. Luckily, third time was a charm! This time, I added some extra seasoning and also some leafy greens, which were offered by the crew member who built my pizza. Well, if there isn't a rule against it, why not?! That pizza was really what I needed, especially since later that evening, I worked a 5-hour volunteer shift nearby. Not to mention the crew member in charge of the finishing touches even offered a second cup of sri-rancha on the side. My previous pizzas used drizzles on top, but I think having the sauce on the side is a better idea. They won't charge you for extra sauce, even ranch, so if you really need that extra sauce, ask for more! :) I came once more earlier this month, but a couple things missed the mark. I ordered online, and the employee initially forgot to hand me my drink, which easily could have happened were I in a rush. Also, they kind of skimped on the toppings, so I didn't get as much compared to before. However, they more than made up for with sri-rancha. I had checked sri-rancha on my online order and said in the special instructions two cups of sri-rancha on the side. I was expecting sri-rancha to be on the side only, but they also included it as a drizzle. Not what I intended, but more for me I guess! lol There's definitely more than enough to bump my rating from a 2 to a 3. In fact, I'd say it's closer to a 4 right now, but on review updates, I only upgrade by one star unless the original rating was a 1, which then I could upgrade by two stars. Also, the new general manager, Amanda, is pretty cool and does whatever she can to provide a great meal to the customer with a side of hospitality. With progress being progressive over the past two years, this is now my go to for BYO pizza. And that's even with Pieology being closer to me, but I have recently developed a grudge against Pieology that may never go away. Don't ask me why. * The way I put it made it sound like she got fired. I can't confirm that was the case. What I can confirm is that she was a really good employee back then, but simply had a brain fart during my visit and didn't hesitate to admit fault to such a heinous act. I know her name, but out of respect, would not want to name drop, especially since it happened over 2 years ago. Extensive training was done to ensure that something like that wouldn't ever happen to another customer.

Woooooww!!! This was the most lovely experience. The workers were the sweetest angels on planet earth and I couldn't have asked for a better end to my night. The food was spectacular and I felt so welcomed. Juan and Brett are the GOATS of pizza and they made my horrible day much better.

    Pizza monster

Elmer was so awesome and kind to me and my picky kids! Would definitely come back. Please is spacious and fun and room for kids to be naughty . Food was perfectly fresh.

We parked at a garage at the City Place Shopping Center a block away that has free parking for the first two hours, so it's definitely worth it. There's also some street parking if you can find it, but keep it simple and park at the garage so you're not worrying about time. I've been told that they check parking at the Burger King next door, so don't park there. The 4th Horseman is located off of 4th St & Solana Ct. It's a 21 and over bar, so absolutely no kids allowed (completely heavenly to get away from screaming brats for a while). There's a small stage in front for when they have bands, trivia nights, comedy shows, movie nights, etc. There's bar seating and plenty of tables all throughout the joint, so if you don't readily find a spot to squat keep on walking and you'll find something. It's a full bar, so they have whatever's your poison. For food there's pizza (by the slice or full pies), calzone, salad, brussels sprouts, and sourdough knots. We kept it simple and had the Slasher Pizza (pepperoni) with a Basic Salad. We sat in the back past the bar, which is where they have a pool table and a bunch of arcades to kill some time. There's a self-serve water station, but if you need anything else just go to the bar and they'll be more than happy to help you out. The pizza and salad were pretty good! If you're more health-conscious, they have a lot of vegan options to choose from. If you don't care about that, the pizza slices are huge and have the perfect amount of grease while you're pounding drinks! Honestly, I'm a big fan of The 4th Horseman! Growing up a metalhead, the music and atmosphere are nice and cozy for me. The employees were all really nice, which is always a big plus when trying something new. My only regret was not grabbing some of their merch on my way out, but next time we make the trip I definitely will!

I also love their soda collection they have for any non-alcohol drinkers. Both times we have gone they have had different selections. We will be back for more trivia and different pizzas soon!

Some find the pizza sizes small or the prices high in comparison to your average pizza joint - but your average, everyday pizza place in California is just...ew. Their crust is very thin, Neapolitan style in a brick oven, beautiful and a little chewy, slightly-charred from the brick oven. Amazing texture. Traditionalists, so we just got the Margherita and Bianco, adding some mushrooms and a drizzle of truffle. SOO good. We also tried the fried zucchini blossoms, which were very light and not oily at all. Mid week when we arrived which wasn't too crazy. There was no one on the patio which was nice as it gave us first choice for a seat...lol... Everyone was seating inside. The place itself isn't that big. You have the bar area with some bar seating. Then there's a couple of tables inside and of course the patio which is along the sidewalk. Personally I prefer sitting outside for the people watching. The staff were all amazing and very friendly. Places like that make the experiences more enjoyable. You want someone who is friendly and respectful. As we were there early, we grabbed one of the beer which they have quite a good selection on tap. There's also wine if you're not into beer. When it came time to grab some food, we were able to get a table inside. Majority of the breweries tends to serve pretty much the same things, pizza sandwiches and salads. No complaints here. Simple food goes a long way. There were a couple of us so we grabbed a few things to share. Started off with the pretzel balls with cheese dip and honey mustard and the chips with queso cheese dip. Pretzel was tasty and outdid the queso dip. Pizzas of course which were pretty big in sizes. A couple of the pizzas and a salad did four of us with leftovers. Their Hawaiian pizza was quite tasty and was finished. We also ordered one of the mushroom pizzas with an egg. It was tasty but a little on the salty side. The arugula salad was delicious. Simple but tasty. And then there was ham pizza I believe with onions and peppercini. That was also a favorite of the night. Overall, the place was quite fun. Not a big brewery and more intimate. The crowd was great and as most places are very kid and family friendly. There was couple of kids when we arrived. Service was great. We got there probably 15min after we ordered and grabbed two cokes while we waited. I tried to pay with cash and was told he might not have change to give me. I said that was ok even though it's pretty lame that you don't keep change in your register. He happened to find a very large coin bag and made me change. We were sitting right at the front and you couldn't miss us. They asked us a few times what our name for the order was and we told them the same thing every time. Finally after about 10 min they asked us for the 3rd time what our name was and then walked away. We could hear someone say "the order for Kymmy didn't leave they are here" or something along those lines. We kind of just looked at each other. The guy that rang us up came over and said, "sorry something happened to your pizza it'll be another 20min or so". At this point we had already been waiting about 15 min for the pizza. So we said ok because we were starving. One of the employees asked us if we drank wine we said no we didn't and that's why we were drinking cokes. He said, "ohh, okayyyy..." and gave us a very judgmental look. Like sir, you don't know why we aren't drinking. We also kind of figured he wanted to give us a few beverage for the mix up. But that was the end of it. We heard someone say our name and we asked if ours was ready and one girl acted like we were being impatient while waiting. Like we didn't just wait over a half hour for food. Finally our pizza was done after a total of 40 min and there was very minimal apology for the delay. We took it back to our hotel and we were so excited it smelled so amazing and it looked so good. I cannot tell you how disappointed we were when we took our first few bites. It was not that great. We had ordered pepperoni and the veggie pizza. We ate half of it because we were starving and very quickly regretted it. It made both of us super sick on top of everything else Needless to say we won't be back here and won't be recommending this place either

Overall, it was solid--sauce had good flavor, cheese was decent, and the dough was nice. Nothing mind-blowing, but definitely a respectable slice. My only issue was the balance--there was a bit too much cheese for the crust, so even folding it New York-style, it didn't hold up well and kind of fell apart. A little more crisp on the bottom would've made a big difference. I also tried their Sicilian grandma-style focaccia pizza, and honestly, that was a huge letdown. It had this dusty, raw flour taste right away, was dry and spongy, and way overpowered with Parmesan. It just didn't come together at all--pretty disappointing, especially for the price. I've had frozen pizza that tasted better. Ended up just picking at the cheese to salvage something. On the plus side, the service was friendly and the space itself is chill--nice casual vibe with a few tables inside and outside to hang out. All in all, the regular slice was decent, but the focaccia pizza really missed the mark for me. Probably not a spot I'd go back to.
