It's been a while, so decided to come back with a friend of mine who hadn't visited yet. We had a reservation for 8:15. We sat at the bar and had cocktails while we waited, and we were seated by 8:45. Yes, it took a while, but we were certainly not disappointed when they took us to the lovely window seats! A wonderful meal AND beautiful views? I'm all in! Our waiter, Mike, was very professional and attentive. What we had: - Spanish secrets (Patron tequila, grapefruit, jalapeno, strawberry, cointreau, lime, tajin): my kinda drink! spicy with the tangy fruitiness! - Spanish charred octopus (marcona almond, roasted grapes, blistered kale, aged balsamic): lovely octopus - charred to perfection but still soft on the inside. Loved the combo with grapes! - Texas wagyu carpaccio (arugula, charred lemon, black truffle, horseradish crema, warm brioche): super thin and soft wagyu, goes well on top of the warm brioche pieces. LOVED every bite. - heirloom beet salad (herb goat cheese, baby frisee, spiced pecans, chamomile vinaigrette): I loooove beet salads, so couldn't say no! I wish it had a little more goat cheese, but this was super delicious. - momma's spicy rigatoni alla vodka (guanciale, crispy garlic): My friend told me to get this for sure - honestly it's probably the best rigatoni I've had! It does have that spicy kick for sure, and the crispy garlic on top gives an extra crunch factor that I loved! - black truffle risotto (madeira, chives, robiola cheese): This is an expensive side item at $34, and to be honest, I was a little disappointed. Very heavy on the truffle, for sure, which may justify the price. However, it was way too salty for us. We didn't want it to go to waste so we finished it, but every bite was just a little too salty. - green beans (dill yogurt, lemon, hazelnuts): Can't go wrong here! Nice to have some greens with our pasta. - Chocolate cake: Loved the crispy layer sandwiched between the chocolate layers. Comes with peanut butter sorbet, too! So good! Our experience was EVERYTHING! I heard about this new restaurant and couldn't wait to try it out. I have a reservation for April (thank goodness I didn't cancel) but Just my luck they opened up more reservations in March and my significant other and I were able to get a dinner time to celebrate our anniversary. To start - Valet is complementary and makes the pain of parking downtown disappear. Once you walk in, you are greeted with a glass of champagne and the escorted through velvet ropes to the 49th floor. There's a bar/waiting area with seats when you enter. Unfortunately we were not seated next to a window; but I have to be honest there really isn't a bad seat in the restaurant. Even at our table I was able to see outside and around the restaurant. Now on to the food & drinks. We had the following: Drinks: Gin It, Cosmo, & Hemingway Margarita Appetizers: Wood-Oven Roasted Prawns & Caesar Salad Pastas: Shrimp Scampi Ravioli & Oxtail Cappelletti Entree: Crispy Veal Chop Parmesan Dessert: Tangerine Ice Cream The drinks were strong and the appetizers. Many the prawns melt in your mouth. Fresh with a light taste. We devoured them and contemplated ordering more. The Caesar salad was good, had a taste of garlic and lemon. The pastas - the oxtail cappelletti was delicious. Meat inside was tender and they weren't too heavy. I had high hopes for the Shrimp Scampi ravioli, and they were good, the pasta was sooo good but I will say the inside was a little fishy. I know this could have just been that the shrimp used was a little off and I won't hold it against them because everything else was so delicious. The Veal Chop - this was suggested to us by our server and boy are we glad we listened. It was delicious, melts in your mouth. Definitely would have this again and it was by far my favorite part of the night. Dessert was light and sweet - Tangerine ice cream with mint. The food was incredible. Great service, great experience, amazing skyline view. This was my first trip to Monarch, and I understand why my friends like it, the food was delicious! I ordered the lamb, oyster mushrooms and an old fashion. I love bread, and the bread service was really yummy. They serve the bread with ricotta that has a bit of honey, it just melts in your mouth. Everything was cooked perfectly and I'll definitely be back. I also really loved sitting by a window and getting to experience the Dallas skyline. The steaks weren't seasoned at all. The mushrooms were great. The raw oysters - haven't ever seen any oysters that small before. Not worth the hype - or the price. We booked our reservation a couple months ago and we're very eager to experience Monarch and the remarkable view everybody raves about. We arrived 25 minutes before our reservation to check out the bar before sitting for dinner. The bar was packed with what appeared to be a wedding party - so we were immediately seated, which we were fine with. We were walked back to the furthest corner right up against the wall with no window, no view - and my husband was inches away from another person at a different table. When I tell you that this table is "offensive" - I truly am shocked that any restaurant labeled "fine dining" would offer this as an option for their guests. Honestly recommend using this table only for walk- ins, or not at all. We also would not describe the vibe as "Romantic," as advertised. It is very lively & hip - not the classic calming ambiance associated with romance. It made us giggle, and we made the best of it, but that was our first disappointment after looking forward to the view. On the plus side, the women's bathroom stall has a remarkable view. Our server was a bit over the top personality wise. Attentive and playful, but not as polished as you'd expect for a fine dining experience - overwhelming to say the least. The food was honestly nothing special. A few dishes were heavily over salted for our taste. It was good, but when your ambiance is further Altered by being shoved in a corner next to dirty walls, there is no entree worth $180. I will say, their wine selection and truffle mashed potatoes were delightful. Overall our experience wasn't what we were expecting (and probably a one off situation). There are several other wonderful fine dinning options in Dallas! We are glad we gave it a chance. Pro Tip: Make sure you request a booth, or table with a view. You need to make a reservation a few days ahead of time for a weekday, likely more for a weekend, it was very busy on a Monday night. They also take a deposit (they refund anything you don't spend at the end). You must be dressed formally. Went on a double date here for a birthday. Be sure to ask for a booth because the view is phenomenal. It's very high and the city glitters. It's quite loud. The staff is very polite and considerate. They will ask you to order apps and entrees together so they can time the dishes coming out. We ordered: 1) Hummus App: the hummus had an Indian flavor which is amazing. 2) we ordered the chicken, truffle risotto and shrimp ravioli. Latter 2 dishes were very nice but quite small tbh. 3) Dessert: Chocolate cake - there banana tasted weird with it and the sponge was dry but ok (no comped birthday dessert). Chocolate Soufflé: very decadent and dark, kind of overkill but still nice. Parking Tip: There's $10 valet but there is a public parking lot right across from the restaurant. Once in a lifetime you may sit back and ponder on all of your life's restaurant experiences. Well last night was one of them for me. Michelin Star chef Danny Grant has opened the Monarch in the Dallas Downtown building "The National". 5 Gold Star experience from the beginning at the Valet to the mid meal restroom break then back to the Valet. You will be met with doors opened for you. Flutes of Champagne. Elevator concierge. White or Black napkin service upon request. The atmosphere was buzzing. Energetic. Exciting. The view from this 49th floor restaurant was amazing. Not one appetizer or even an entree had a negative aspect about it. Had a party of 4 and when we walked in, the host told us that they have a dress code and tshirts aren't allowed, okay, that's fine. So the boys went to go find a dress shirt somewhere really quick. I walk to my table while I wait for them to get back and I pass by a couple of guys with raggedy looking vnecks on at a table.....I confronted our server about the situation and the owner (David) came over himself and was very apologetic and told us the meal was on him that night. Which I am pleased by his customer service. Food was great!!! Not pictured is the Shrimp Scampi Ravioli which was so rich and yummy. Caviar was just ok, the blini that comes with it wasn't as firm as it should've been so it was soggy when we ate it. Got some side dishes that came out with tongs and the food runners just kinda threw it onto the dish. We also ordered the Night Cap for dessert and the coffee came out cold..everything else was amazingly delicious. I would suggest them to have more quality control on the food and more training for the staff in terms of how to correctly place food and utensils down in a more respectful manner. Overall would come here again because David's concern towards our situation was urgent and he made sure we were left on good terms. When you enter the restaurant you feel like you stepped into a dining experience in New York City. We enjoyed a glass of wine with the bartenders and Rye gave us the tea on the best items on the menu. He was spot on! Our server was Alex and he was so great - he knew just when to time the evening and when we told him we were here for a friends birthday - the rest of the night was a celebration. I started off with the Secret Garden cocktail - a light tasting cocktail with gin st-germain violettes sitting on top of the drink seedlip and lemon. I began my meal with the beef wagyu carpaccio and our friend had the roasted prawns. wonderful food and presentation. My experience at Monarch was truly impressive, well besides the food. Starting off with complimentary valet parking at the National. We walked into the lobby and were greeted with complimentary glasses of champagne. Next, the elevator takes us up to the 49th floor & the dining room exposed us to amazing views of Downtown Dallas. The seating and decor is immaculate. The staff was great especially our server who brought us warm bread with whipped ricotta spread, salami and spicy olives. He explained the menu to us in detail. We both started with Caesar salads which were topped with fresh grated parmesan & lemon zest. Good flavor but not $16 good. For my entree I ordered the Short Rib Bolognese & my friend ordered the Lobster Spaghetti. The portion of my bolognese was kind of small and it wasn't hot either. The short rib meat was much like regular ground beef. Unfortunately, there was no amazing burst of flavor but it was pretty... The Lobster in the spaghetti dish was tough & rubbery. My friend had to cut the lobster tail with a fork & knife....yeah, that kind of tough. The sauce was nice & it reminded us of the cheesiness of Hamburger Helper. She ended up sending it back because of the tough tail meat. We ended up speaking to the couple at the table behind us who also ordered the Lobster Spaghetti & they had the same issue with the lobster being tough. At $58...that is not expected or welcomed. I had a lovely and romantic evening here with my husband. The service was very good. We were seated promptly, offered drinks and out server went over the menu with us. We decided to get the octopus and meatballs as a starter, split the fish for our meal, a side of asparagus, and the chocolate moose cake for dessert. This was a so much more food than we expected, we had three containers of left overs. We enjoyed all the food we had and i especially liked the meatball sauce. After dinner we went upstairs, grabbed a drink at the bar and walked the catwalk. We stumbled upon an empty cocktail table and we sat for 20 mins talking. Overs it was a nice, romantic date night. To start the sommelier was dismissive and did not truly seem to understand the wine menu. Our waitress was rude, rolled her eyes when ordering drinks and disappeared when the food arrived. I ordered the ribeye medium rare and the first time I came out medium well, and the second time it came out medium (seems like this place doesn't know how to cook a steak). The sides were very good. The manager was very helpful and checked it constantly which was nice and comped the steak. But the over all experience ruined the trip. I personally never want to go back. 5 stars for the food, ambience and view! The service, however, was lacking. Snagged a 3pm reservation on Easter. We arrived around 2:45pm and valet was just setting up, but they checked us in quickly. Check-In - Upon entering the lobby, the host stand was still setting up and they informed us that they were still preparing up stairs and would send us up closer to 3pm when the restaurant opened. Not a problem. Since We were the first guests there, sat down at some seats close to the lobby host stand. As time went on, the lobby began to fill up with more guests and we realized they weren't keeping track of when guests arrived. I'm sure everyone was there for a 3pm reservation, but there was no system to ensure guests were checked in order of arrival. When it was time to be sent up, about 15 mins after 3pm, it was a free for all to the elevator. Luckily we got on the first elevator, but I think some order based on time of arrival should be in place. Upstairs host stand - apparently there was a party a couple steps ahead of us that shared the same last name. It's not a common name, so sure the host didn't think to also ask for a first name. But when we got to the stand, it was clear that they had been given our initial table because she had to shift things around. We still got a window table, but our initial table had a clearer view of the city. Recommend asking for full names to avoid potential mix-ups. Service - our waiter was decent, but he was much more attentive to the couple at the table directly behind ours. He would often come check on them, and walk off without checking in on us although that table was less than two feet away. Upon seeing what they ordered, it was clear he was more attentive based what there check was tallying up to be (caviar, $1000 king crab, and many more items). I get it, the tip from that table was likely going to be greater, but I believe the service you provide shouldn't take in those factors (I mean, we still spent close to $300 for a late lunch). We had to ask for items that were automatically just brought out to other tables nearby. That was disappointing to both me and my wife. Food - for this reason alone, we will be back. The food was excellent. Started with the king crab and prawn cocktail. Super fresh and delicious. The black truffle risotto was creamy and decadent. My filet was cooked well and the red wine jus was a great addition, and my wife enjoyed her salmon. We were stuffed and didn't get to try any dessert. Overall, the start of the experience and the service were the only down parts, but the food outweighed those snafus. Look forward to returning for an evening dinner and hope I will be able to update my review of the service portion. read more

The experience from beginning to end was beautiful and well done. I was invited to dine here with a group of foodies and I was soo glad I had the opportunity. Parked in valet, then entered and was greeted with champagne for the elevator ride. This is definitely the first time I've had that kind of treatment! When I made it upstairs I was in awe. The ambiance, decorations, vibe all of it was A1. I'm almost positive the entire seating area is surrounded by windows, so you're bound to get a beautiful view while dining. We tried their hot prawns, fire roasted lasanga, 28 day dry-aged ribeye, texas waygu carpaccio, crudo, meatballs, whipped potatoes, mushrooms AND chocolate cake. Oh, and they even have a wine pairing option, which means with each meal you get to sample a wine! Their ricotta + bread... *chefs kiss* I'm not sure what they put in their but MY GOODNESS it was good lol. I'm not a raw steak type of person, but for this occasion I decided to try it and I am so glad I did! It literally melted in my mouth! I thought I wasn't a steak person, but clearly I just wasn't eating the right steaks. Everything was top tier, including the service by Russel! He was very informative, answered and and all questions, made it easy for us to make boomerangs and take videos as he was bringing out dishes and/or drinks. This second time, Efrain(manager) and Von(waiter) made sure my dinner was the best. I couldn't have asked for a better experience this second time around. You get a glass of champagne before taking the elevator up to the 49th floor with skyline views (that you can't see unless you pay for a window table lol). The espresso martini was fantastic! I ordered the chopped salad before my entree. I liked it! But...not all ingredients on the menu were in the salad. I asked the waiter if my salad was missing anything (burrata specifically + pepperocini) and he said no...I googled the menu to make sure and those were listed. Oh well...sort of, because it was $18 missing ingredients. I got the short rib bolognese. I really liked it, but it wasn't anything my mom couldn't make it. I hate to say that as the vibes of this place are nice, but there was no "wow" factor for me. Glad to have tried it out! read more

Experience started with a greeting as we walked in with sparkling wine. Elevator straight to the 49th floor. Crowded bar, diverse clientele ages and appearance. If you're interested in quieter setting definitely ask for a table in the back, if you're upfront you see everyone walk in and have the fun view of the bar action but it's quite loud and busy. Cocktails are inventive and tasty. Robust wine menu. Food - we did the royale tasting menu. It was spectacular. T-Robb was our server, knowledgeable and helpful and Entertaining too! The managers checked on us several times. The strip melted in my mouth and the asparagus was heavenly. Husband is a huge fan of carpaccio, he claims this is the best he's had. This lived up to the hype. Scoured a reservation back when they first opened to take my husband and 4 of our friends (yay vaccines) here for his birthday the first week of April. Being a group of foodies, one friend had already been and was excited to go again (always a good sign). The champagne as you walked up was cute for the elevator ride up. Our table was ready immediately even though we were a little early. The waiter was excellent and fun. The caviar service delighted our little group. The meatball appetizer was a big fan favorite. We all ordered steaks and an assortment of pastas, which were delicious. My favorite thing was likely the dessert stand, complete with various after dinner drinks. We had an amazing experience at Monarch on December 7, 2024 starting with the complimentary champagne when we checked in waiting for the elevator. Once we made it to the 49th floor Sally (Maître D') elevated the experience with personalized service. It was a busy night but it was well managed by Sally and the staff. The ambiance was perfect, low lit and intimate. The service at the table was very attentive. The food was delicious. We had an appetizer with calamari, prawns, & halibut. The Caesar salad was fresh and crisp. The dressing has me wanting more. For dinner we ordered a ribeye, lamb chops, filet mignon, and Nilgai (antelope harvested in South Texas). The pretty people place!!!! Swanky, delicious and trendy...my FAVORITE VIBE There was a little google map confusion that landed me on the wrong side of valet. Once I rerouted to the proper valet I proceeded up a flight of stairs where I was offered a glass of champagne for the elevator ride to the restaurant. The floral arrangements were dried colorful botanical mixes, gorgeous! The decor was modern, elegant and trendy. Think swanky NY vibe. GIVING!!! Once seated we did not get one of the coveted window seating. However we were sat at a beautiful booth placed not far from the entrance. We felt grand and on display somewhat yet intimate (weird mix but loved). I started a Pinky Ring cocktail, which I was initially questionable about due to the cinnamon. OMG six cocktails in.... I digress I suggested that we share the salt crusted fish. Since we both were focused on fitness goals. Since we were unsure on portion size we decided to start with shrimp scampi and King crab and shrimp cocktail. Delectable The fish was grilled to perfection with the perfect amount of seasoning. Our garlic mashed was delicious yet a little bit looser style mashed than I was expecting still delicious. The charred asparagus were magnificent. We had such a great experience. We finally made it to the local high end restaurant Monarch. It was everything everyone has said about this place " Outstanding ". The first thing you notice is the champagne they give you " before" you ride up the elevator to the 49th floor. Nice touch! The second thing you notice once you arrive to the 49th floor is the view and it too is" Outstanding ". We arrived 20 minutes early in the evening to get a view before the sunset. I forgot to mention that we received a text message to remind us about the dress code before we arrived which stated that men needed to have a jacket or " collared shirt "so as to keep their ambiance in tact. This was not strictly enforced as we saw a couple of guys who had not gotten the memo. The food and service were all five stars. There were 6 of us and we got a seat in a booth with a window. ( highly recommended). I do not have pictures of the food but it was all beautifully presented. First we got the meatballs , calamari and shrimp to share. My wife and buddy got the bone in ribeye cooked medium rare cooked perfectly.Two others got the branzino cooked perfectly and my other buddy got the veal chop that was pounded thin and pan fried. I got the pasta dish with short ribs. They serve could not have gone better. The waiter had an in-depth knowledge of the menu to share with us. He came back often and was never far away as his other tables were close by. It was a little dark in our section so he brought us another candle light for our table. We ended the meal with a dessert wheel which was very cute. It offered several options of miniature treats like cheesecake and small cookies for the table. I made one small and expensive mistake when I ordered the Eagle Rare bourbon which cost $40. I will not make that mistake again. On the whole the dinner experience was exceptional and expensive. I would definitely get the shared options Bc you will want to sample all of it. We had the live crab and the spicy mini buns were to die for, my favorite of the night. The view at this restaurant was very lovely and was the immediate draw. There were many nice touches, from the furnishings to the attentiveness of the staff (Mariah, Alex and James were all fantastic). We went on their third night of being opening, so there were definitely some challenges, such as long wait times for food and some dishes being amazing and others needing some finishing touches shifted. The drinks were fantastic, with my favorite being The Duchess. The Night Cap was one of our favorite dishes, which is a combination of multiple deserts with coffee and liquors. We also ordered the homemade creamsicle ice cream and it was one of the best ice creams I have ever eaten. I would have given less stars initially but the staff were so amazing in making sure any parts of the night that did not go well were compensated for or remedied. Took my boyfriend here for his birthday for his first fine dining experience and he loved every second of it. The staff is so attentive, and the foods were full of flavor. The only downside to our experience was that I reserved a table but I was not able to get one near the window so that we could get a look at the view. We were told they were already reserved, and had to be reserved beforehand. When reserving my table, I wasn't given an option as to which table or where we'd like to sit. read more

What else can be said about Monarch besides: absolutely impeccable? From the staff to the food to the ambiance, there's VERY little room for improvement because the entire experience was -- dare I say, perfect. Where can I even begin? The restaurant is absolutely stunning. It's a beautiful, low light space taking up what seems to be like the entire 49th floor of the building plus an upstairs area. The view is breathtaking and if you're lucky enough to snag a booth, the view is perfect for an intimate evening. Monarch has an amazingly diverse staff who are all polite and accommodating. There was a little bit of a drip from an AC vent at our table, and our waiter immediately relocated us to a booth and we got to have a gorgeous view of Downtown Dallas while we ate. The bartenders were all quick and well- versed in all things cocktails. As I was taking photos, one member of the kitchen staff was kind enough to spark a flame on the grill for dramatic effect. Now to the most important part -- the food. My upmost compliments to Chef Danny Grant (two-time Michelin starred Chef) and Chef de Cuisine Eric Dreyer, because while the menu has its rustic Italian roots, it's completely reimagined and reinvigorated. The table favorite was absolutely the Shrimp Scampi Ravioli. The presentation of this dish, along with all of our dishes, was magnificent and the taste was indescribable. The handmade pasta was cooked to perfection, and the white wine sauce was rich but light -- I couldn't get enough. Whether you want to propose to your partner, have an epic first date, or celebrate a birthday, Monarch is a fabulous place to do so. I absolutely cannot wait to go again! read more
