Horrible service. The lady at the cash register was looking at receipts and when I walked up to the cash register I literally stood there 3-4 minutes before she acknowledged me. Then after I order she doesn't give me a receipt. I notice there's multiple signs posted about free meals if they don't give a receipt. I walk back to the front and ask for a recept and ask about the sign. She makes some bs up about how it's only if I realized I didn't get the receipt when I am picking up the bread. And she even dramatically sighed and rolled her eyes when I told her the sign shows AT THE REGISTER. They need to take the signs down if they don't honor them. I've been eating at Mr. Baguette for many many years, many many times. Before COVID, it was really really good. The last 2 times I have been here (after COVID), something has changed. The bread tastes different now and doesn't taste fresh anymore. It is not crunchy but very hard to chew, and tastes stale. The prices have also increased about $1 each year since COVID. It now costs at least $7 for one sandwich. I have eaten here many many times before COVID, It used to be my favorite bahn mi place, but now it doesn't taste good or fresh anymore. I find the bread at this place to be too hard. Sometimes, when you order, if you are not careful, they will give older stale bread from a prior day and just reheat it and so it looks especially brown. When I've ordered the bread with meat, I have found the mayo paste they put in there to be too buttery and slimy so I usually opt to leave that out. read more

Maybe it was just an off day because I was expecting more from this place. The price and selection is comparable and the quality, well, it's just OKAY. My friend told me he wanted a banh mi and so I yelped the closest thing and stumbled upon this gem. From the freshness to the bread to the slices of meat and veggies I love this place. I got 4 of the special banh mi's with the pickled veggies on the side and that's what I got. I especially like the fact that the veggies come in packaged bags so the juice doesn't spill all over and stays fresh. Service is friendly and food comes out pretty fast so you'll be out in no time. I've eaten here since they opened. I remember when there'd be a line to get your food because it was so new and popular. Correct me if I'm wrong but they changed the style of baguette in this area from the soft chewy form to the crisp more elongated form. Anyways..today, it's not what it used to be. I got the banh mi special, but my baguette was over baked, so it was a little tough to chew. Like before, their filling isn't plentiful, but just okay. They still package the sour carrots separately, but it's all orange now.(no white =( ). I also got an iced coffee because it's only $1 with my meal. It was definitely strong, but didn't taste 100% fresh. Good and bad... The parking seems okay, but a lot of compact spaces. The patio area seems nice, but most purple smoke there. Also they don't give you the separate baggie with your carrots, daikon, and jalapenos anymore which kinda sucks. Every time I visit San Gabriel and I'm craving Banh Mi, this is the one key place I go to. Lee's cannot compare to here! If you are in the area, this is the place to go to get a banh mi! They make their's fresh and ready to go! I love the customer service and they load your sandwich with a lot of meat and you can actually taste the Cha Lua and everything else. I love the roast beef sandwich on the sesame baguette. It has a light layer of garlic mayo, lettuce, tomato and a generous portion of roast beef. They even give you a pickle and a little pepper. They've always been consistent and never stingy. Their iced milk coffee is served over crushed ice and isn't too sweet - soooo goooodddd. Since there are already so many reviews...I'm not going to bore you with my story...but I feel that this is a great place to go for a quick lunch if you are one of those types of people that are constantly on the go...very nice and easy to locate spot, the only thing they are missing is a drivethru..but other than that, I think the sandwiches are priced right and made to order. I love going here for a good Vietnamese sandwich. I had been going to Lee's and Bale Bahn Mi for years. When I came to Mr. Baguette a few years ago, it became my favorite place to get Vietnamese sandwich. Their french roll is head and shoulders better than Lee's and makes a big difference. Although, I believe Mr. Baguette is more expensive now, the extra cost is worth it. I love getting the special sandwich and/or a ham and cheese. If you love clam chowder you must try theirs. It's not very chunky but very creamy and delicious. It reminds me of the kind I used to get when visiting Fisherman's Wharf in Monterey. It also comes with toasted crotons to dip and munch on. Their Pate Chauds are OK, I must always get them when they have been sitting their because they seem a little soggy when I bite into them. But they are flaky with a delicious filling. It's a great sandwich deal with 3 eggs, ham, and pate on the inside of a baguette. Service: There are a couple of registers so the ordering is pretty quick. When I go there, the wait time for my food is no more than 5 minutes and that's what I call service. The people who are hired at Mr Baguette are genuinely nice as well, not just putting up a front because they are at work. Environment: Though not exactly a place to have a long intimate dinner at, the place does provide with a very spacious front section and a nice outdoor seating for quick lunches or coffee breaks. It's a very conversation-promoting environment. Overall: 4/5 Not really going to give it a 5 just yet, because I still believe there MAY be better places out there. Better than Lee's and Banh Mi Che Cali, both down the street. It's pretty much what you expect out of a vietnamese bakery/deli. I'm going to go with a few gripes, but understand that everything else about this place is good. Their iced coffee is good, but the cup is loaded with ice, so for $2.25, you're not getting a lot of actual coffee. I don't like the baggie of veggies they give you. I think it's to keep the bread crisp and to appease those who are scared of the jalapeno, but I'd rather them fill it for you. The really annoying thing about the baggie is that they give you the sandwich in a sleeve, which is nice and compact, but to put the veggies in, you have to pull the entire sandwich out. As anyone who's eaten a vietnamese sandwich before, these things can cause quite a mess. The chicken pie is not that great, and it seems like they might sit there for a long time. Some of the girls that take orders don't speak the best English, so when you try to order anything different (i.e. Tuna Croissant or Chicken Pate Choux), they won't know what you're talking about. We come here specifically to get the Sesame meatball banh mi + iced milk coffee... just coz my family is a picky eater... and at the same time, we've never seen any other location sell meatball. We don't care much about the radish or cucumber coz as I've said... "picky eater". Family likes it just the baguette n meatballs. Although, for me, I like the pickled carrots, cilantro & jalapeno... and I also don't mind self-serve so I can get as much as I want. My favorite banh mi shop, shame its a little far for me to drive to just for banh mi. It's a pretty standard banh mi place, same combination of meats, a little vegetable topping and various drinks to wash it all down. What I love about this place is that the banh mi is flavorful and that there is a lot of meat compared to Lee's Sandwiches. One thing I don't like here is the coffee, its way too sweet and has a butterscotch-y taste to it. They also have a lot of croissant sandwiches but I've never tried it. Parking is pretty bad, small lot with tight spaces. Luckily there's a security guy there to help ease things a little. I used to like Mr. Baguette more than Lee's, however, in my recent visits I found that they are decreasing the amount of pate in their baguettes and that greatly affect the taste of the baguettes. Now I'm switching back to Lee's.
