After a dissappointing Malaysian lunch in Flushings, our day was salvaged by wonderful doordash from Nyonya. Nasi lemak was excellent: fragrant coconut rice, salty & crunchy anchovies, tender curry chicken, the only thing missing was a scoop of sambal. Asam laksa broth was heavenly, you can tell they boiled the fish until it melted into the soup. It took our palate a few seconds to adjust to the level of sourness & spice, but once it did it was slurp heaven. Nadi lemak & Asam laksa are the 2 most iconic dishes in Malay cuisine, Nyonya executed it perfectly. We can't wait to visit the restaurant itself & sample other items. read more

CASH ONLY** Upon arrival they specified that they only accepted cash which was fine since my friend and I had cash on us. We got seated and offered menus. We ordered the stir fried seafood pearl noodles, hainese chicken and roti canai. The dishes took a while to come out and service wasn't really attentive. They just brought the dishes out, and came by when we were done eating to cash us out. Perfectly fine because that gave me and my friend lots of time to catch up. Great restaurant to try out with friends. Everything is super easy to share and huge portion sizes. I got the Indian Mee Goreng to share with a friend, and my other friends ordered the Chow Kueh Teoy and pineapple fried rice. We also got a full Hainanese Chicken to share. I had an amazing experience at this hidden Chinatown gem in NYC, this Malaysian restaurant has to be one of the best I've tried here so far. Some simple dishes but some reason it was just extra tasty here: YOU HAVE TO TRY their beef stick with rendang sauce on side, and order a side of rice to eat with it, can be a meal in itself! I wanted something warm and soothing for the chilly weather and not to heavy and the egg tofu casserole dish was spot on! It was a thick but light sauce and egg tofu was just crisp on outside but airy soft inside, the sauce pairs well with a side of rice for sure!! And ROTI CANAI WAS A GREAT CHOICE, the crispness as you hear when we tore it apart tells you everything!! Solid option in chinatown for malaysian food. The menu is extensive and covers every malay/singaporean dish I can think of. We shared the roti, chicken satay skewers, char kuey teow, nasi lemak, and eggplant with shrimp. The roti was so crispy and went well with the curry. The sauce for the satay stood out, as well as the chicken and coconut rice in nasi lemak! You don't need me to tell you because it is written on the door, the hostess will confirm with you, and then it will also be written on the cover of the menu so if you can't figure it out, I don't think anyone can help you. The space is nice too and big enough that you don't feel like you're sitting in your neighbor's lap. We were quickly sat and given just enough time to peruse the borderline Cheesecake Factory style menu. We settled on the Roti Canai, Chow Kueh Teow, and a chicken Masak Lemak with a side of coconut rice. The Roti was thin and crispy with a very flavorful chicken curry for dipping. The Chow Kueh Teow had the kind of wok hay that you are looking for, trust me. The Masak Lemak was a saucy, ginger packed delight. The portions are big--between the two of us, there was enough for a solid lunch (for one) or snack (for two) the next day. And it still hit then. Come hungry. Bring cash. read more

Our group of 4 went here for Sunday out. We arrived at 5PM and the restaurant still had many seats available. This restaurant serves Nyonya cuisine, a Chinese-Malaysia cuisine. We ordered Roti Canai, Satay Chicken, Beef Rendan, Spicy Chicken with rice, and Bak Ku Teh. The food was amazing. Roti Canai: the bread was very crispy outside and soft inside. It went perfectly with the tasty curry. We also ate the bread with other dishes, like the Beef Rendang. Nyonya Satay Chicken: the chicken was very tender and flavorful. The star of the dish was the peanut sauce. Beef Rendang: the beef was slow-cooked with coconut milk so it was tender like melting in your mouth. We recommend eating this with rice or the roti (flat bread) Spicy Thai Chicken with rice: the poached chicken was served in the spicy sauce and rice. The rice was cooked in the chicken broth so the fragrant and the tasty were absolutely phenomenal. The chicken was tender and when paired with the sauce, they went up to the next level. Bak Kut Teh: the dish name literally means "meat bone tea." The broth was very light but flavorful. You can drink it like tea. They were able to accommodate our 20 person big party reservation, but oddly didn't put us at the two tables next to one another (we were diagonal with a table cornered in between us) although the party being seated at the other table didn't arrive until we were nearly done with our meal. In general, they've been accommodating with our large and smaller parties and with and without reservations. The food is also delicious with few items we've tried and disliked. There's plenty more on the menu we'd love to return and try! Some classics you can't go wrong with include the roti canai and the beef rendang. Their Hainanese Chicken is very popular though so be prepared to wait if you want to order this. They also didn't let us know about this wait until we checked in on our order twice. Then, our orders of this didn't arrive until well after we had finished the rest of our meal. It also, unfortunately, wasn't as flavorful as other hainanese chickens I've had. This is a review for Nyonya's delivery, so this may be very different if you are eating at the restaurant. I've been to Nyonya on and off for almost 10 years, and it pains me to have to take this restaurant off my list of delivery choices. We love Hainanese chicken and always order it when given the chance. The last four times I've ordered it from Nyonya, I've received a container mostly of bones. I understand that chicken will come with bones, but there is so little meat that it should be called rice with a garnish of Hainanese chicken. We had the prawn noodle soup and I was so impressed that it came with kang kong/ ong choi which many other Malaysian/Singaporean restaurants usually miss and use a diff veg instead. Went there last night and was very disappointed with the food. I ordered the Roti Canai and it was warm and dry as if it was made for someone else and left on the table waiting to be picked up. As soon as I started tearing into the roti, it crumbled apart. Next was the Masa Lemak with beef. It was salty and the meat was shopped up so much, it got lost in the brown sauce. I did not even finish my plate which is uncommon for me. I've been to this place many times in the past and had a pleasant meals but not last night. The menu here has all my favs and is tasty for a super affordable price, so I'm mad that I didn't try it earlier. We started off with fresh watermelon juice and fresh coconut juice, which came in a whole young coconut and brought me back to childhood :') The watermelon juice was solid too but a little watered down. We then ordered 4 dishes for 2 people bc we're piggies - roti canai (most popular, literally every table ordered it), prawn mee soup, hainan chicken with rice, and shrimp with lady fingers malaysian style. I don't feel like the food here is mindblowing or anything - and my bf doesn't know if he'd come back here again - but personally I really liked it bc I think it's really good for the price (most dishes $10-12) and very authentic. Roti canai came perfectly crisp with delicious curry. Hainan chicken was very slightly overcooked but still good, although it came with soy sauce and chili sauce instead of the classic garlic-ginger sauce (but this is prob just malaysian style which I'm not used to). Prawn mee broth was very prawn-y but I loved how full of flavor and spice it was. And finally, shrimp and ladyfingers (aka okra) was very flavor and salt packed but tasty esp bc the shrimp shell was cooked enough to be edible and crunchy. They are CASH ONLY! After several months of playing it safe, we get to stop by at one of my favorite comfort food restaurants-- From a dozen cooks and a bevy of servers, the restaurant is now down to four cooks and two waiters and merely a few tables on the tourist-less sidewalks of NOLITA. Sad aftermath but I'm glad they survived the last five months of lockdown and didn't have to close at all. I passed many other smaller operations in Little Italy that are now closed. This is a bib gourmand Michelin restaurant, that is affordable and cash only! I had a lovely server and another person who was cleaning our table took our dessert order. I went with a few friends and we all LOVED the fried buns with condensed milk. Like beignets meets donut holes in a flakey crust. I was not having meat so I tried the vegetarian duck and it looked lovely but I should have ordered some nice sauce covered veggies too. Friends had the Chow Kueh Teow which was tasty loved it. The shrimp puff is wrapped in bacon fyi and the bacon might overpower it. We did the roti curry and it can have chicken depending on the chef. It's a much lighter paratha style if you're familiar. I would have loved to try fried fish or a soup or just more, the menu is extensive. I want to go back! Okay coming from someone who's not a roti expert- this is literally the best roti I've had in my life (do with that information what you will lol) It's so soft yet crispy and the accompanying curry is so full of flavour. I would come back just for the roti. I've had a few other dishes, Hainanese chicken and a curry based noodle (can't quite recall the name). The Hainanese Chicken wasn't the best I've had, it was a little dry, and didn't have enough dipping sauces (I think I might be used to Singaporean style so my bad if I'm misjudging). The curry based noodle (I can't recall which one it was), was pretty good- I don't have any special call outs for this dish in particular- if you're in the mood for some curry noodles this will hit the spot without breaking the bank ‍ Portions here are huge, so you get bang for your buck here. However, I found the food to be consistent with the food I've had in Malaysia and Singapore. All of the food was delicious and while it was sauce-heavy, that's what you sign up for when you order food from this part of the world! We came here for lunch and this spot really hits home on the flavor, portion, and aroma, in terms of Malaysian food. We started with the Roti Telur, which is basically the roti, wrapped with egg and onion. The curry dipping sauce was perfection. We loved this dish, and it was definitely heartier than the regular roti order. The roti skin was fluffy, and it was filled adequately with egg and onion. We ordered the Curry Mee with Young Tau Foo, which consisted of egg noodles in a spicy lemongrass coconut curry with tofu and vegetables stuffed with minced fish. The stuffed items were really plump and big, which made he dish extra hearty. But, any noodle dish with a rich, and milky curry base is good, especially with the egg noodles. I always get this dish when I visit this place. We also ordered half a Hainanese chicken, which was also really good! Highly recommend this for the table to share. The chicken was juicy, and packed with flavor. We also ordered the pearl noodles in the clay pot, which was a first, but the noodles were really chewy and plump.
