My first and last time visiting this place. I ordered a fried rice with shrimps and xlb dumplings and it came out to $33 with tip (I was eating alone and $33??? Hm.... better have chair flipping good food) but guess what lol panda express fried rice is better and xiao long bao????? Quick service and good for a quick fix for lunch for those going to school/work in the area. Good for appetizers or main course. I recommend to try their juicy xlb dumplings comes in 10 pieces and crispy pan friend dumplings-6 pieces. They also sell boba! Note to self: ask for less ice next time. My friend and I were looking for different new places to go to grab dinner in Orange. We decided to try O dumpling bar because they had vegan options for me and looked interesting. Currently if you're trying to park at the Circle they have some of the streets closed down. Not sure how long that will be in effect. So you can park in any of the public parking around the orange circle and there is street parking nearby as well. I ordered the Vegan Dumplings and vegan fried rice. Both were delicious and good serving sizes. I do think it's a little pricey since it's quick service rather than having someone take your order for you refill your water etc. you don't get those perks and for the price it's a little expensive. But I appreciate the vegan options and it tasted good so I would go back. We were surprised that it wasn't a sit down restaurant it is a quick service restaurant. You order at the counter and sit down and they bring you your order. They bring it with lids and plastic utensils and little packages of sauce. They didn't explain what was in the containers which was a little annoying because we weren't sure what to use for what dish. We went on a Thursday night around 5:30 pm and there was absolutely no one eating in the restaurant. A few people came in to eat while we were sitting down and a few more got takeout. I was very surprised it was so quiet on a Thursday night. The staff didn't seem to know what was in things when I asked. I asked what was in the vegan dumplings and vegan fried rice in terms of ingredients and he couldn't tell me. Just had an amazing late lunch with some out of town friends. Wonderful little Bao place, speedy service! The food is wonderful, I sprung for the cucumber salad and XLB Bao. Spent around $30 or so. Delicious food, great spice levels, decently large portions... Definitely 10/10 will return! Spicy wonton were incredible. Spice level of 3 was perfect, and the hint of sweetness brings it back slightly. When I come back, these are the first thing in my list! Cucumbers were so good, even if so simple. Rough chop/smash prep with all the sweet chili oil and peanuts and loads of cilantro. I gotta figure out how to make that at home because I could eat it every day. Xiao Long Bao are the toughest dumpling to get right. Flavor and size and portion were all amazing, but 9/10 were all broken on the bottom (and the last one was at least half my fault). Might be easy to miss this spot but definitely keep an eye out and pop by if you're looking for a quick dumpling bite. But, the "pan-fried" descriptor is wrong. This was a deep fried dumpling. It had blistered, fried skin, and was kind of chewy. The filling was bland yet salty, and unimpressive. Plain chicken dumplings rarely impress. Boiled pork and cabbage dumplings (10 pc): 1/5 This sucked... The dumpling skin was 2 inches thick, doughy, and unevenly cooked. The filling was fine texturally, but bland. This tasted like a frozen grocery store dumpling. But the skin was unforgivable. On top of that, these were almost $12. Over $1/dumpling. Surprised at the highly positive reviews for this place, but I guess I should remember that this is one of the few Asian places in Orange Circle, and that you'll take what you can get. If you're familiar with the dumpling scene in OC or SGV, this won't impress you. The restaurant by default is putting food in to go boxes (didn't know that), which is terrible for the quality of XLB. They already came exploded or stuck together, which is a no no for soup dumpling. It also wasn't flavorful the filling. However, I loved the black garlic fried noodles with beef. Incredibly filling with a dollop of black garlic sauce on top. Definitely a fusion dish with its udon, white cheese, and stir fry veggies. Save the other half for a meal the next day. That being said, as long as you don't look at this place as a dumpling house, you're golden in your expectations. The noodle and rice dishes are filling, savory, and all you need on lunch break from work or school. Really hope this place improves. Very depressing place to eat at...I eventually went next door and got myself a meat pie to recover a bit... I gave 2 stars instead of 1 because they are new and I want to give them a chance to make some major changes. But the overall food and service did not deserve anymore than just 1 star. The XLB Juicy Dumplings are a completely joke. These were totally frozen, pre-made somewhere else. The thing is, even in comparison to those I bought frozen from restaurants around town, these are still below average compare to those. Just think of XLB with completely soggy bottom skin with not much quality either taste or texture wise. The Black Garlic Fried Noodles were basically udon quickly mixed with ingredients, did not feel anything like it was cooked in a hot wok or pan to absorb any of those high heat flavoring. The Pan Fry Dumplings (chicken) we got also had nothing special about it, I cannot imagine it's anything but those frozen from factory. Size and taste were very similar to those ones I used to eat from Japanese market's frozen section (made in US). If this was 15-20 years ago it may have been okay to open a dumpling specialty restaurant while serving frozen stuff that's below average quality. With so many restaurants serving freshly made dumplings it puzzles me that someone would serve what I had here all the while at the price of restaurant who serves freshly made ones. If they intended to go after the frozen dumpling sector, the price needs to be adjusted to reflect that. If you like to know where you can get good frozen dumplings to cook at home just ask or PM me! Came in on a Sunday evening with my husband and ordered beef black garlic noodles (I asked if there were vegetables in this because I cannot eat bell peppers - they answered "just onion and cilantro") pan fried dumplings, and xlb. Beni shoga...like the kind you get at Yoshinoya? So weird. The xlb were overcooked. The skins ripped off every one of them that we tried to pick up. It was a hit for the dumplings, wonton in spicy sauce, and the wonton soup. The dumplings was very juicy but it was all torn and sticky that the soup could not be fully held in the dumplings. With whatever soup left, it had a good flavor. The wonton soup without the toppings was preferred over the one with added chicken (extra charge). We ordered medium spicy but it wasn't spicy enough. Added spicy sauce from other dishes to increase the flavor and kick and it was quite good. Would order the wonton in spicy sauce again but will ask for very spicy as the medium spicy was not spicy enough. The chicken in spicy sauce was very dry. We couldn't finish it. The beef wrap was crispy but not as flavorful. We did ask for a side sauce that usually accompanies it at other places. The black garlic noodle was not as expected as it was bland for some. The dumplings here are pasty & doughy. We had a sampling of a few, read below for a review of those. XLB soup dumplings were tasteless & most of them had already leaked out their soup upon arrival to the table. The Panfried chicken dumplings were burnt black on the edges & the texture of the non burnt parts had the rubbery hard feel you get when reheating something in the microwave & letting it sit too long, after it was once pan friend crispy. The Pork & Cabbage dumplings were the most doughy creations I've ever had stuck to my teeth. The Black garlic noodles with beef tasted like they were created by someone who shops at Trader Joe's Asian section for all their ingredients. The texture of these poor noodles never saw a wok, nor did the veggies there in. The bell peppers g onions had no caramelizing & appeared to be steamed or cooked in a crowded saute pan at too low of heat. Would not recommend wasting money here to poison your body, I feel terrible from having this stuff in my belly right now. The poor guy who mans the cashier needs help & training. Their soda machine was broken & he was trying really hard to fix it to get the Dr. Pepper to come out, but to no avail, he had to refund us for that after about 25mins of waiting for a drink. Was looking for a new dumpling spot and landed here. I ordered the XLB Juicy Dumpling, Pan Fry Dumplings, Black Garlic Fried Noodle, and pink lemonade. I'll start off with the juicy dumplings those were sooo good and juicy they did not lie (as the photo shows). Pan fry dumplings were good too but personally I like on fry dumplings more crispy but still good. The black garlic fried noodle stole the show tho the aroma coming from the bowl was amazing, very delicious. Also the pink lemonade was top tier. We waited almost an hour for our meal 2. Chicken pancake was more like a chicken burrito. Chicken tasted old and very dry. They didnt even use a pancake it was a tortilla. Tasted bad. 3. I was confused because I expected it to taste freshly made-to-order after hearing that. Perhaps our standards were too high after having eaten Din Tai Fung. The pictured on the outside menu are false advertising. The "Kung pao" was white in color and no sauce or flavor with boiled chicken. The "black sesame noodles" were white pale flavorless and just dolloped with a black paste - not even mixed. The absolute worse dish was the boiled, over microwaved dumplings. Clearly refrozen several times they had no soup bc it pooled at the bottom and stuffed with flavorless chicken. I was super excited about trying this place out. It's located in the heart of Old Town Orange, known for great little hole-in-the-wall restaurants. I wanted to like this place. I really did. But it just fell so short of my expectations. First the ambiance. None. Absolutely no charm or atmosphere to the place. No decor. No music to fill the coldness of the restaurant. The space felt stark and not welcoming. I felt very uncomfortable eating there, like I had to eat quickly and leave. Second, everything was served in to-go containers. We ate in the restaurant yet all our food were in paper containers and plastic utensils were given to us. The pictures on Yelp did not reflect how our food was served to us. Maybe during Covid they changed to single use containers and never went back...I dunno. Just felt weird eating food from take out containers when we were dining in. Lastly, the food. We ordered the pan fried dumplings, XLB and garlic noodles. Everything was just okay. The skin on the XLB was kind of thick and unfortunately when I picked them up to eat, the skin stuck to the containers and all the soup fell out of them.
