    OBRA Signature Burger

Been here before! Had a craving today for some great empanadas. Ended up not getting any empanada, but did try the signature burger and Cuban sandwich. Both items were freshly made and the ingredients were all complementing each other. We also grabbed an Arnold Palmer and an iced cafe latte. Refreshing! Service was fast considering that it's made to order! This place has always been clean, well lit, and breezy. Will return and for sure get empanadas next time =]

Was excited to hear this was one of the stops on our Long Beach bike route. They said it was a coffee shop, but was excited to see there were pastries and empenadas! The two I got were great selections! I initially wanted curry but the person berfore me had just bought all of them. Didn't get a drink cause I was limited on cash, so I just drank water. Lots of pretty cool items here. Worth another visit definitely.

The potato balls is where is at. The empanadas didn't feel like anything special and was underwhelming. Relatively slow when we came in and was helped pretty quickly. Nice little place to chill and have lunch.

Got the Baked Beef Empanadas, OBRA Beef Ball and a slice of Strawberry Cheesecake. The empanada was good. The seasoning was a little mild. The OBRA Beef Ball was delicious. Very flavorful. I liked the gooeyness from the mozzarella cheese. The Strawberry Cheesecake was smooth and tasty. Good strawberry flavor without being too sweet. Included were a salsa verde and a sweet creamy mayonnaise sauce. Service was very friendly and prompt. No issues on parking.

After my workout class I was feeling hungry and here I go opening up my Yelp and closest bookmark goes to empanadas!! Heard lots of good things about this spot and heard they opened another location that means it's that good! Went inside and so many selections of desserts and empanadas! They also have massive potato balls!! I had to get a beef potato ball and it was huge and filled with cheese. The outer layer was so crunchy and beef filling was yummy. I got 4 empanadas since I couldn't decide on just 1 Breakfast- I wanted something breakfasty- has potato's. Felt like breakfast Cuban- yummy and the green sauce was perfect with it Chicken curry- very curry.. not sure how I felt about it curry in an empanada Chicken- can't go wrong and the green sauce and the creamy sauce worked well with it 4 empanadas and a potato ball for $25, a bit hefty But if you buy a dozen empanadas, you get 2 free!

Everyone in Long Beach knows we are spoiled because we have something even better than Porto's; this little hand bakery called Obra. Obra's potato balls beat out Porto's potato balls any day of the week - they are so HUGE and filled with so much gooey cheese and meat flavor (I prefer the beef potato balls). Admittedly, I have a hard time buying empanadas in the states because I used to eat empanadas every day when I lived in South America (and they were only 20 cents per empanada!). However, Obra's empanadas are the ONLY empanadas I've tried in the states that I truly feel like are as delicious and flavorful as they should be! They're baked empanadas with a great flaky crust. And super creative fillings. I particularly love their Thanksgiving flavors. -The chicken curry empanada is next level. 9/10 -The Cuban empanada is probably my very favorite. 9.5/10 You don't even need any of the sauces for either of those empanadas since they're so flavorful. -They have a new flavor, the Ropa Vieja, which also has an amazing depth of flavor. 9/10 -The sausage empanada was just ok for me, but it was a good breakfast empanada since it has plenty of potatoes in there as well. All of these come nice and warm when you order them. But you can order frozen ones as well and take them to go so you can bake them at home. They come with a chipotle aioli and a green salsa, which are both solid sauces. I didn't get the guava and cheese pastry this time but that is always a crowd pleaser whenever I have people visiting. They have a great selection of sweet pastries, lunch sandwiches like a Cuban sandwich, soups, and coffee. They have limited seating outside, and parking is pretty easy. It gets busy but you never have to wait too long. I love it here and highly recommend it.

Twice in a week. The empanada craving is real. Stopped by with the hubby while running errands. This time I tried the beef ball and the pork empanada. Both satisfying and will report some other time on the big dulce de leche cookie. Friendly staff with quick service. Small little cafe set up, bright and clean.

Love the empanadas here and sandwiches. Trying a seasonal one today. Also the burrito empanada. The food here never disappoints. Highly recommended. Service is excellent too.

Tres Leches Latte, Cuban Sandwich, and Vanilla & Dulce De Leche Cookie

This place was a nice little, hole-in-the-wall cafe for a quick bite. Seating is limited. There is a small bar area inside, but nobody was sitting inside, because the line to order was kind of taking up that area. There are also three tables outside that seat four, four, and two for a maximum of ten. The place fills up fast, but empties just as quick. And their baked goods go quick, so grab them while you can! I ordered the Cuban Empanada as an appetizer. The savory rice and bean filling was a perfect compliment to the sweet ripe plantain filling and hint of sweetness in the dough. They are baked and the dough is thick and chewy, so if you're not a fan of that type of Empanada, be warned... I ordered the Cuban Sandwich as the main course. It was DELICIOUS and I would recommend it to everyone! If you're a purist, like a few of my friends and family though, be warned. Their take on the Cuban is made with Ciabatta not Cuban Bread, Mozzarella not Swiss, and is toasted not pressed... I ordered a Vanilla & Dulce De Leche Cookie for Dessert. It was AMAZING! Soft chewy on the inside, a little crunch on the outside. The taste of a sugar cookie with little sugar bombs of Dulce De Leche throughout. Perfect. And I washed it all down with a Tres Leches Latte (Hot). It was DIVINE! Very much on the sweet side, which I absolutely enjoyed to the last drop. But, if you do not like it too sweet, you can ask them to lower the sweetness level. Also, they will give you an option of dairy milk (2%), almond milk, or oat milk when you order. Overall it was an excellent experience, for me. I will recommend it to all my friends, and will definitely be back!

Not bad but can't say I'd go out of my way to come here, nor would I crave it. Their potato balls are HUGE, seems bigger than what you would get at Porto's, hence the price also being more. Not a ton of vegetarian options. I tried the veggie and jalapeño/cheese empanada -- both were okay. It comes with a green salsa and creamy sauce. The creamy sauce is meh, but the salsa is GOOD! I like the empanada much better with the salsa. They also have some sweet pastries, though I haven't tried it. Perhaps another time, they also have sandwiches so it's a nice spot to pick up lunch to-go.

I wasn't expecting to absolutely fall in love with this place. The place is super cute and I love how they have all their savory and sweet items on display. Everything seems very fresh and I love the items I chose. The Beef Potato Ball is a must get, it's cheesy, fluffy, and crispy. The empanadas have a generous amount of filling, they're not skimping out. I like that it comes with sides of sauce. The prices are higher compared to Porto's, but it is so worth it. The workers are very nice and it wasn't busy on a Tuesday afternoon. ig: @cravingswithcat

Went to Obra after Easter mass and it hit the spot. Everything looked fresh, and the baked goods never disappoint whenever I go here. The ropa vieja burrito is easily my favorite...super flavorful and filling with shredded beef and cheese. Easily the best burrito Ive ever had. Only thing its limited in seating.

My favorite item I ordered was the guava cheesecake. So light and tasted like real guava, which I can't find outside of Hawaii. The ropa vieja empanada was my favorite for the savory items. Love that each of the pastries came with their own sauce, either a verde or spicy mayo.

So although definitely more expensive than more casual Peruvian spots, we could taste the quality. I also loved the arrocito norteno, as I love seafood paella, and this was basically that. The scallops and octopus were so good! This place is a bit more luxe than the other Peruvian places I've tried before, which is reflected in their price. Although we were there in the day, I could imagine this place being a cute date spot at night. Glad to try this main stay in Long Beach and would recommend for a bit more upscale meal (although no pressure to dress nice at all, just seems like that vibe).

Drinks wise, they had Maracuya juice which is their local version of passionfruit in that region as well as Chicha Morada which is their Purple Corn beverage composed of cinnamon, cloves, fresh lime juice and when in Peru, they'll utilize pineapple husks for flavouring. It apparently is more popular in Peru than Coca-Cola and after a few sips you'll inevitably see why. For the rest of the restaurant (which opens at 11am and offers a more extensive menu) I defer to other reviews. My family and I stayed in the hotel over the weekend and on an early Sunday morning (around 10am) I brought the kids here to give mom some much needed rest. I was immediately struck by the beautiful view - overlooking the Queensway Bay and the Long Beach waterfront. The restaurant is breezy, clean, and open, resembling a Mexican / Central American beach resort that the hotel themes itself around. I was quite surprised, however, to see a very abbreviated, expensive menu even at 10am, and the hardworking, amicable staff pulling small items from the refrigerator and heating them in a toaster oven. The overall picture was highly reminiscent of Starbucks, but with marginally higher quality and three times the price. I asked if anything was available that was made fresh, and the staff pointed out the main restaurant wouldn't open until 11am. We ordered the croissant sandwich ($18) and country toast ($13), and after 15 minutes for the sandwich and 25 minutes for the toast they arrived. While good, the croissant sandwich was definitely reheated, likely assembled from a number of components from a Sodexho catalog, the sausage patty definitely not homemade, and the egg a pre-made disc. No shells were cracked in the making of this one. The toast was attractive enough, but was not really toast at all - just bread with cheese and jam on top. It was good, but nothing extraordinary. While I'm deducting a point for the very long wait time for such simple, assembled food to reach us, the staff was excellent. They enjoyed greeting and playing with the children, helped with the stroller, and offered us a chocolate milk gratis after noting how long we were waiting for our simple order (with my children complaining about how famished they were). It's likely the lack of any competition in the area that keeps prices high and food quality low, but I can't help but think that some simple managerial decisions on hours and prices would make things much better. Despite fantastic staff I can't recommend Fuego's cafe. Perhaps the main restaurant would be better for a proper breakfast, but on a Sunday morning I'd expect it to open sooner. While the view is excellent, with middling food analogous to Starbucks and markedly elevated prices, if you're at the Maya I recommend you sleep in, or, better, hop across the Bay for superior options.
