Loved everything we ordered! Papaya salad 5/5 - had a nice spicy kick, love that they gave plenty of cabbage and not just papaya and shredded carrots. Fried eggplant 5/5 - favorite dish that we ordered. Perfectly crispy and not soggy on the inside. Super unique, they took a whole eggplant and sliced it. Curry cups 5/5 - unique, comes in 3 cups. Seafood was good, curry was flavorful. There was one item that we couldn't figure out what it was and had to ask -- it was young coconut! Pork ribs 5/5 - meat was tender, very flavorful. We had a reservation and mentioned upon arrival that it was my birthday, but there was no acknowledgment at all, which was disappointing. The appetizers and soup were good, but the pan-fried noodles were not. Service was very disorganized. Our server kept forgetting our orders, and after we had already ordered dessert and waited about 15 minutes, she came back to ask again if we wanted dessert. I understand she was the only server handling multiple tables, so I don't fully blame her. The bigger issue is the lack of overall customer service and management. When we arrived, there was no greeting, and when we left, there was no "thank you" or farewell. The owner was not friendly or helpful either. To make things more frustrating, an automatic 18% service charge was added, despite the poor level of service. A mandatory gratuity should reflect attentive and respectful service -- unfortunately, that was not our experience. My friend and I dined at Oraan for a second time recently and we can confirm that they make THE BEST Pad Thai in San Francisco. A bold statement, we know. The Pad Thai Kung Mae Nam ($22.95) easily serves 2-3 people. A heaping portion of noodles that are packed with flavor and topped with two tender giant river prawns. Another delicious dish we ordered both times was the Makuer Tod ($13.95), a flower-like sliced crispy fried eggplant. Quality was consistent between the two visits. One dish that fell short was the Ka-nom Jean, a mix-it-yourself dish of rice noodles, chicken curry paste, boiled egg, and veggies. Unfortunately the chicken curry paste tasted nothing of chicken and it had an overwhelming medicinal-tasting ingredient that overpowered the dish making it unpalatable. Another fabulous meal and experience. My wife and I enjoyed another memorable Mother's Day dinner. As delicious as the food is, the warm and caring service from the entire staff is noteworthy. Nacha and Johnny (owner) were especially friendly and attentive. From our water glasses being constantly filled to changing our plates to checking in on our meal with beautiful smiles, the service is tops. We ordered and loved the crispy eggplant appetizer, Tamarind Prawns, Crispy Pork Belly with Basil, and their spectacular steamed mixed seafood cups with coconut curry, and ice-cold dark lager Lao beer. It was busy on a Satirday night at 8:00 pm. We ordered the Pad Kemao (noodles) with chicken, Nuer Marakot (ribeye steak), Jasmine white rice and Thai ice tea. The wait was a little long to put in our food order because it was a full house. I felt like they refilled my water twice before the waiter came back to take our order. Our food was pretty spicy for me. My mouth is still a little burning from the noodles and steak. There was this round seedy thing in the steak. The guy said it was a Thai eggplant. Never seen it before. It was ok but not my cup of tea. The noodles were less spicy than the beef. Aside from the spicy level, which ofcourse is a personal preference, the food is flavorful. came around 7pm on a Monday, it was not busy at all (we were the only ones for a while), but food took a surprising while to come out (not unbearably long though). the staff were so friendly, they recommended 3 things which we got. the gai manow was really interesting and its textures were perfect. the fried batter was so crispy but the chicken inside was incredibly moist and juicy. the lemon cream and crispy broccoli elevated the appetizer further and left us very excited for more. the sukho thai noodle soup met that expectation with pork served 4 or 5 different ways on a bed of soft rice noodles and a complex coconut lime broth. I loved the spices in the soup, and the crispy pork belly was my favorite. we didn't love the nuer marakot (beef) because of how fatty it was, but if you like that you would love it. the papaya salad and curry sauce served with it was delicious. the mango sticky rice was probably the least special--the rice could be softer and warmer, and the mango could be riper. but overall, I love the creative menu here and the cozy ambiance, and would come back! read more

Decided to try this Thai restaurant that is located where Mescolanza used to be. They have been opened a few months already and I have to say, the service was exceptional. The restaurant itself is decorated beautifully. Thai food is one of our favorite cuisines, so we are definitely comparing them to our other favorites in the area and the City. While some dishes were pretty good, we felt that some were very lackluster. Also because the price point of this restaurant is a few dollars signs above the average Thai restaurant, so we are definitely looking to see if this is "worth it". We got the Pad Thai Kung Mae Nam (Pad Thai with River Prawns). This dish looks impressive and tasted pretty good. Essentially you are eating mostly pad thai because the river prawn doesn't have much meat, and with two people and two prawns, we each got one. The pad thai itself is a little too sweet according to my husband, but I didn't mind it as much as it also balance with the sour taste that comes from the tamarind. We also got the Khao Mun Gai (Thai version of Hainanese Chicken Rice). While presented beautifully in a big tray lined with a banana leaf, comes with a chicken broth, garlic ginger rice (yummy), cucumber, and a soybean paste sauce, it was very underwhelming. The chicken itself was dry, feels overcooked. The soup tasted very "cup of noodle"ish according to my husband. I avoid it because I don't want the salty broth. The sauce itself is okay but nothing spectacular. Most disappointing is that there was no minced ginger sauce. Sorry to say but you can get better Khao Mun Gai at Rooster and Rice on Stanyan. The cucumber salad was good and refreshing. The Thai iced tea was okay. Seems a bit watered down but okay. So while we like the beautiful restaurant and the good service, the food is not impressive. Best shared between 2-3 people.   CURRY PUFFS: pies filled with chicken, potato, carrot ($15.95) | 4* You can't go wrong with deep fried puffs. These had a generous amount of delicious filling encased in a light and crispy shell with a thick and creamy curry sauce for dipping. I came with a group of friends, and we did family style so we could enjoy a couple of options and I'm glad we did!! The food here is so tasty and some of the appetizers are pretty unique. The service is also very fast and kind! We ordered the tom yum soup, gai minow, pad ke mao and green curry. All the food we got we had with tofu except for the gai minow which is chicken. I've never had anything like the gai minow before, but it was pretty tasty. In some ways, kind of reminded me of an elevated chicken nugget. The tom yum soup was very fragrant with lemongrass and the green curry was nice and spicy! My favorite dish for sure was the pad kemao. It had amazing flavor and tons of veggies. tldr awesome thai spot serving up unique thai dishes with big portions, beautiful ambiance and friendly service! this place was really solid! friends and i ordered 4 dishes including the laab gai, pad thai, fried rice, and gai manow...somehow we ended up ordering all chicken dishes. laab gai (2.5/5) perhaps a personal preference but i think pork is a better protein for laab as the chicken can get a bit dry texturally - flavors were citrus forward with a hint of sweetness which were decent but overall dish lacked herbs and would have benefited with more mint, green onions etc the cabbage was a good crunch pad thai (4/5) wow the portion was huge on this and flavors were decently balanced between the sweet, sour, and savory notes. there was ample bean sprouts, green onions, tofu, eggs which gave the dish a good bite and the chicken was really tender! thai fried rice (4/5) this was a really solid rice dish with a good bite in the rice (not too soft or hard), ample ingredients and chicken was tender like the pad thai! it was a great way to balance out the bold flavors of the other dishes. they also give you a fish sauce based dip for the chicken which was interesting but i don't really think was needed gai manow (4.5/5) this was my favorite dish of the night! i am a big sweet and savory girlie so this dish was up my alley. the dressing on the chicken is reminiscent of honey mayo walnut shrimp sauce and the lime slice adds a kick. chicken pancake is literally fried to perfection - the crunch and juiciness is incredible. the chinese broccoli was surprisingly amazing - fried and light it was the perfect accompaniment. overall this dish was really creative and while a bit too sweet, it was an amazing bite! service was great with the servers checking on us and the interior is quite modern. Oraan Thai is a modern restaurant offering a creative take on Thai dishes with bold flavors! My favorite (and the most unusual) dish on the menu was the Gai Manow, a round, flat patty made of minced chicken coated and fried in a crispy panko batter, topped with a lemon cream sauce, and surrounded by crispy Chinese broccoli. Gai Manow - pleasantly surpried, you'd imagine eating chicken katsu but the texture was different and that lemon sauce was just yummm Hoi Jor - If you enjoy Kikiam's, this is for you! Fried crab rolled in tofu skin! 100% KUNG CHOM JUN - texture was a little off, the sauce was the star! KUNG MAKAM - visually pleasing but i wasn't a big fan. The place looks immaculate, and the prices are super reasonable given the portion sizes. The dishes all have strong flavors, which suited my parents well especially; some were a bit over-seasoned for my liking, but that's certainly subjective.
