Very pleased with the ambiance inside, the dimmed lights make it perfect for a date night. Everything is so pretty and i love the variety of seating available, as well as the outdoor section! Ambiance is top notch. If going with younger kids, you may want to sit outside on a warmer evening. They even provide blankets if you feel cold outside! The inside seating is a bit more of a date/party vibe with loud music. Service was super attentive. They constantly came to check on us and made sure we had what we needed. Food... the best way to describe is "ELEVATED". They use high quality meats and even have Campo Grande Iberico Pork. The food was absolutely delicious. The only suggestion I would have is that they re-evaluate how many tostadas and tortillas are given with each appetizer/entree. For example, the ceviche and Queso Fondido are really good but there's no way you can finish it with the amount of tostada/tortillas given. They were happy to bring us more but you don't want to have to wait for these kinds of appetizers because the cheese gets hard quick. read more

First off our server Chris was great. If it wasn't for him I would have rated this spot 2 stars. Our appetizers were very good. We looked at the menu before we came and in the pictures it appears you get a lot more than you actually do. I ordered the Ribeye medium rare and it came almost medium well. They had to throw another one on, but by time it came out everyone was done eating. My son and his girlfriend split the $165 tomahawk steak which was also overcooked but they ate it anyway. Was definitely not worth the price tag. Overall it's a nice place, great ambiance but way too overpriced for what you get. We will not return. read more

This 1 star is based off of the poor hospitality we received. My family and I walked in about 7:30 on Saturday night. We have a toddler. The host tells us we cannot get a seat as they are 100% booked for the night, all reservations are full. Even through the restaurant visibly had open tables. We stepped outside, checked the website and sure enough there were open reservations. We made an 8:00pm reservation turned around, walked right back in and checked in with a different host (possibly the manager). The first host looked stunned and from that point on refused to make eye contact with us. When we were seated our server was rude and short. Our medium rare steaks were cooked medium well. And when the bill came the server had her back turned and was already walking away before the bill hit the table. Definitely felt the rudeness for brining our child to dinner and for calling out the hostess on availability. Food was nothing special. Overall this place sucks. read more

We had a celebration with a table of 8 so we scheduled on a Tues evening so as to beat the crowds. Service was sooooooo slow. Took forever for drinks. Some of us had wine which couldn't be screwed up but soooooo slow. Not very crowded at all so we don't understand why. Margaritas were okay. Other drinks were okay but not excellent. Some food was good and others just okay ... we had appetizers... Brie, guacamole, and queso fundido. Our table was so big we couldn't even reach the middle where they set everything ... maybe consider a lazy Susan. We had to ask for more chips and tortillas ... queso wasn't cooked through so had to go back. They were all okay tasting. Dinner... had Caperi fish.. just okay; NY York strip was very good; Barbacoa not real thing unfortunately so just okay; tacos de filet were tough and not worth price at all; skirt steak lorenza was tough and sides were never served. Desert of gelato scoops took 20 minutes!! The restaurant has an unusual decor which we liked. But food, service, etc does not equal price. We were there like 3 hours and spent over $700. Been looking forward to coming here since they opened. Evidently they had a fire in the kitchen which caused them to close for a month, and when we went they had been open for a week. And it showed. First off, we figured that we would arrive an hour early and have drinks at the bar. So we did, after having a drink I went to tell the hostess that we were there and we planned on keeping the reservation and we were waiting for 2 more people. She told us that we were not allowed to do that and that the bar is for walk-ins. I have been dining out for all of my life, and have been at some of the best restaurants in the country. This was new to me. And she was rather rude about, the other 2 women with her looked uncomfortable. I was like "okay, what do you want us to do?" she asked us to both come to the front and they would get us a table, my partner was like "are you serious?". Granted our company was not scheduled to arrive for another 30 mins. Such an awkward and uncomfortable situation. It was really unnecessary. And it created a negative energy for us. Like others have said - when you are paying this much money for a meal you have some expectations. I don't want to have to ask for flatware, or appetizer plates. They brought us our appetizer and we had nothing to eat it with, or any way to share it. I used the same dirty utensils throughout the entire meal. Dirty plates went uncollected, and I felt like I was chasing people to get drink refill. The food was good, some dishes were very good. But not enough to justify the price tag. The prices need to come down, otherwise this place will be empty once the newness wears off. The restaurant is beautiful, they did sink a lot of money into the ambiance, its such a shame that they didn't invest more heavily into training the staff. Or coming up with a menu whose price matched the rest of the experience. read more

Just visited for the first time celebrating my wife's birthday. I'll start with the atmosphere which was great. I had the felet tacos with bone marrow and it was incredible. Terrible service. Scheduled a reservation for 3pm on 12/16 (start of happy hour) for my girlfriend's birthday dinner. Arrived at 3:03pm. Stood in the lobby area for over 10 minutes, hostess was nowhere to be found we peaked our heads into the restaurant and was noticed by what we assume to be servers or other staff and nothing happened. We left and went to another establishment, will not recommend to others and will actively tell others about our poor experience. Would not recommend as there are many other establishments that have good a reputation, service and food nearby. read more

Tried Origen tonight for our anniversary dinner (took our teens with us) and loved everything about it! The restaurant is gorgeous and an experience on its own. Our server, Sebastian, was fantastic and so helpful with the menu and recommendations. The food was also amazing, so much flavor and came out quickly. The complimentary tostadas, bean dip and salsa trio was a great start. Our order included the grilled Brie, two of the empanadas, the barbacoa, the tacos banados, fettuccine Alfredo, the Origen burger and the lava cake. Considering the price point, I would have expected much better food favor and food temperature. Huge menu and lots of variety: pasta, enchiladas, steaks, tacos, fish, burgers, tostadas, chicken. More than half our meals were cold like it had been sitting for a while before we were served. Kids meal was $17 and the fries were not fresh, reheated or possibly over fried to be that dried out. Service was super slow, friendly and helpful but slow. Sunday evening with a reservation for 5:45 and it took 2 hours to order, eat and pay. Ambiance is great, classy, perfect for a date night or business outing. It's 0% chance I'd go back for a mediocre $350 meal. The bathroom door does not latch and lock properly. Not sure a deadbolt into drywall is the correct means to locking a door. No changing table in restrooms either so not necessarily baby/toddler friendly. read more

I had dinner here with friends recently. We loved the look and ambiance in the restaurant. I made reservations which was a good idea because they were busy. 3 friends split the tomahawk and I had the skirt steak. The tomahawk went over well but my 3 friends that split it said they wouldn't order it again, they'd order something else next time. They did say it was good. The skirt steak had so much flavor and was cooked perfectly! The mashed potatoes were also very good. I ate every bite. Great for a date night or a dinner with friends. read more

We were so excited to try this new restaurant in our neighborhood and we loved it! We ended up getting there for happy hour and got try a few different appetizers and lots of tacos. Ambiance was incredible. What a unique vibe! That alone you need to check out. It's still new so they are ironing out kinks in the kitchen. Our server was phenomenal but dishes came out way too far apart. They had the large sexy wine glasses and great cocktail offerings. The food was good, but it wasn't overly the top amazing. I would however go back due to service and ambiance. Maybe try something else next time. They need to promote a specialty dish that gets people excited and in the door. My husband and I were excited to try this place for a date night but were disappointed in most aspects of the restaurant. Service: We made an early reservation so the restaurant was fairly empty, no more than 6-7 other tables. However, even with all the open seating in the main dining area they put us in a corner table in the room farther back, right next to the server stand. So we had servers coming right behind my seat to grab knives, water, etc. that was really distracting. I would understand if the restaurant was packed and there weren't any tables but the fact that we made a reservation and there were at least 20 other tables we could have been seated at, the hostess choice was ridiculous. Throughout our meal I had to consistently flag our server down as well even though I'm pretty sure they only had another 2 top and a 6 top to tend to. Food: For the price the food was subpar. For a cheaper price (I'm talking like 20% cheaper) the food would have still been subpar. We ordered the queso fundido with the steak bites ($31) and it straight up tasted like flavorless melted mozzarella with a layer of grease on top. At one point I actually started choking on it because it was just a giant cheese-pull that got stuck in my throat. For mains I got the Tacos De Filet and similar to the fundido, the tacos were covered in grease and the bone marrow had no flavor. My husband got the Crispy Pork Belly tacos and even though he was really hungry, he only ate two of them. Nothing was worth coming here unfortunately and even though we probably had half to 3/4 of our meals left, including the appetizer, we didn't bother to take it to-go as I didn't want to relive that culinary experience again. When I made the reservation I also noted that it was my husband's birthday. I had seen previous reviews that they did a birthday dessert but they never said anything. When I brought it up to my husband he said to not even bother, he just wanted to get out of there. For the amount spent on Mexican food, we should have just risked getting bubble guts eating Filiberto's for a week. read more

I'm loving this whole vibe we have going on here! Literally bringing Gilbert to a whole new level. Not much to complain about. I feel that for only being open for a week, they've pretty much worked out a lot of tweaks that you see in a new restaurant. A few issues, but nothing that would have me vowing to never come back. For a place like this, I would except the pricey drinks and food. Probably not a place I would frequent weekly, but is definitely a date night kind of place, so we didn't mind indulging. The food, drinks, and our server were worth it. Loses a star because I feel for the price, my steak should be cooked correctly especially since they slice it before bringing it you. My husband and I both asked for medium rare. His came cold and rare and mine came out medium. Our server offered to fix it, but my husband will never send back food for fear that they would do something sneaky. I didn't send mine back because it was still juicy and flavorful, so I was good. One note, when we first got there, even with a reservation, it still took 35 mins to be seated so we got a drink at the bar. It took a while to get drinks and they actually wouldn't even acknowledge us until they were ready to make our drinks, so we stood there for a good ten minutes before anyone even talked to us. I get that they're busy, but a simple "I'll be with you as soon as I can" would have been nice. All in all, I think once they work out the little kinks, we'll make another visit. I hope it lasts because it's probably one of the nicest restaurants I've seen in Gilbert so far. read more

Daughter took me here for my 70th Birthday to try someplace new at my request. Just an absolutely beautiful new restaurant. Stunning interior. This will be a great place once they get over the "we've only been opened three weeks." and their website pictures updated to what they serve. Delicious complementary bean dip and salsa to start off the night. We had the Queso Fundido for an appetizer which was full of flavor and a large portion for two people. For the main we ordered Tenderloin and the Picahna. While both were good they just didn't meet my medium rare expectations, One underdone and one over done. Certainly the picahna was not served as pictured on their website. I thought for sure the Picahna would come with chimchurri sauce. Had to ask for a side. Service was fairly good but please don't bring me out canned soda and remember to take appetizer plates off the table before bringing me the main course. I'll be back maybe once they get up to speed but wouldn't do another birthday here. I'll go back to one of the other steakhouses like my daughter would have preferred. read more

I experienced Origen for the first time last night, I went there to enjoy a corporate dinner and this place was absolutely amazing, from the moment you walk in. The wood on the walls and the wood burning grill creates an incredible atmosphere. And the cherry on top ....THE CHAIRS! They were sooo comfortable!! Now the food was also amazing every dish that came out was mouthwatering. I had the salmon (delicious) but I also sampled the cowboy steak and the broccolini. The broccolini was my absolute favorite thing, they drizzled a smokey balsamic vinaigrette over the broccoli and it was just the best! A friend and I decided to try this place. Walking in, the ambiance is stunning. Very nice, earthy and trendy. There were about 6 tables sat, it was a Wednesday at 5, so not too busy. It's a pretty big place, but they sat us all in one spot. I know they are trying to make it easier for servers and clean up, but we could hear every table's conversation, and they could hear us. When our server came to take our order, I had a question- I like cabbage and dislike truffle oil- how truffle-y is the cabbage? She said not very, but it's really good. So I ordered that and the quesobirria tacos. Right after she took our order, she brought us 3 salsas. But nothing to put it on. We were confused. Although it was never explained to us, we surmised you are supposed to use these on your entrees. For the meantime, they just sat on our table with nothing to dip in them for 20+ minutes. The food came out, and the cabbage smelled horrible, like a fart just sitting on our table. I tried a bite (I love cabbage and eat it several times a week), and all I could taste was truffle oil. When she came over to check on us, I said she could take it. She asked why? I said we didn't like it (my friend also tried it). She asked me if I wanted to take it home, which was perplexing when I said I didn't like it. Then she asked my friend if she wanted to take it home- she also declined as she didn't like it either. Then I moved on to the quesobirria tacos. I had just ordered a similar item at a different place and they were so good and the consommé was drinkable! I was excited. Ugh, they were disappointing too. They were soggy, and the meat was fatty. It felt like I was eating clumps of fat. The consommé comes in a tiny silver cup the size of a side salad dressing cup. It wasn't really dippable which I feel is kind of the point. My friend got the skirt steak and potatoes with asparagus. She thought hers was good. She ordered the chocolate cake and didn't finish it saying it was moist but nothing special. All in all- probably not the place for us. read more

There is a serious management problem at this place. Not the servers , they were great but way overworked. One bartender for the whole restaurant during a holiday week? That slowed everything down . Our server was super professional, but I could tell she was stressed and way overworked. After our food was delivered, she didn't come back for 45 minutes. The "manager " (if you can call him that, untucked shirt and belly sticking out ) stood at the food window to help take orders out, which is not where the problems were. I think they actually brought dishwashers out to help the servers start boxing up people's leftovers to go. As for the food,, meh at best. I had the Barbacoa, which sat in the cast-iron pan so long that it was burnt to the bottom. It was served with a red sauce that looked like watered down ketchup and had no flavor. Wife had the enchiladas with steak on top which she liked, but they served it in a bowl with so much green sauce that it was practically like soup and impossible to cut the steak on top. Stupid plating. We had much higher expectations. Much better restaurants around. read more

The entrance sets the stage for this unique dining experience. This place gets extra points for ambiance. The design was carefully thought out. I love all of the nooks and cranny's that create beautiful intimate spots, perfect for date nights. They also have beautiful rooms for big parties. Fillet was cooked perfectly, and loved the peppers and onion with it! I had a cucumber margarita that was delish, and my husband had a red wine from Mexico that he thoroughly enjoyed. The service was great. The staff knew the menu and the drink menu well and could suggest things. They suggested the bean appetizer and it did not disappoint as well as their version of a tiramisu.
