View is beautiful. Went there for lunch 9/21/2017. We were trying to decide what appetizer to order, the waiter told us which one to order. When I was asking about cocktails he told me to get a drink (don't recall name because he was talking so fast). I didn't see it on the menu. When the rest of the table got their drinks and I didn't, I asked how long it would be, he told me it is infused with co2. I asked how much he told me $27!!!! Really? Why wouldn't he disclose that when he told me what to order!!!!???? So I cancelled that and then asked for something else. He forgot to bring it. read more

I always remembered people would bring their prom dates here back in the day, so when I saw Peohe's on the restaurant week list, I decided to give it a try, especially for such a great menu selection. For the appetizers, we could choose from the lobster bisque, Peohe's salad and steamed artichoke. As for the entrees, prime rib, crab stuffed tilapia, and crunchy coconut shrimp were definitely hard to choose from. The desserts also sounded so enticing: macadamia nut creme brulee, white chocolate raspberry cheesecake, ice cream cake. Peohe's has a very romantic, ocean calm ambience to it. It's very cute, yet sophisticated inside. It also has an incredible view of the SD skyline! I originally made reservations at 7:30 thinking that the sun would set around 8pm, but I guessed wrong! By 6:30 the sun was starting to set... so take that into account if you're trying to get the sunset view for a romantic dinner. I loved that we got a cute booth that seated 4 facing the window. Definite plus there. I looked around and there other couples in a booth by themselves, which looked very romantic. Our group almost all ordered the crab stuffed tilapia, but I decided to split with a friend and get the prime rib. Both dishes did not disappoint! The crab stuffed tilapia was absolutely delicious!! It had a very nice bread/panko crumb coating on the outside. I loved that there was plenty of REAL crab in the tilapia. The sauce that accompanied the fish was also delicious. Very well done dish. My prime rib was also very good. It was cooked perfectly, had a nice seasoning to it. The mashed potatoes were also very tasty. Only thing lacking was some sort of vegetable. We also all ordered the lobster bisque for the appetizer. I loved it! I don't really have anything to compare it to since it was the first time ever trying it, but I really liked that it had some chunks of lobster in it. The desserts were a little disappointing.. My creme brulee shouldn't be called a creme brulee without the hard sugar top. In fact, mine was soft... there was no crack. It was a generic creme brulee with macadamia nuts on top.. we didn't even finish it. We didn't even finish any of the desserts. The ice cream cake , aka "the best" according to Peohe's was also very generic. I expected some flavorful ice cream, but it was just vanilla ice cream with a buttery oreo crust. I thought the cheesecake tasted pretty good. It was very light in texture and not too sweet, but my friend thought it tasted pretty sweet. Overall, the service was good. Our waiter was attentive, but seemed to rush us in the end. He gave us our check and asked if we were done with our desserts just as I was digging into the creme brulee. We were hardly through half of our dessert. He was very nice though. He allowed us to a tasting between two wines that I was debating between. Although, he did seem to forget bread to hold us over before our appetizer came... We had to ask for that. The bread tasted like a bread/biscuit. It was fresh and very tasty! The restaurant also provides whipped butter, which is a plus. In the end, this restaurant was totally worth coming to for restaurant week. It was such a great deal considering that our entrees alone would have cost $28... but we paid $30 for a 3 course meal. The night was great with great company and great food. read more

My boyfriend and I decided to try Peohe's for Restaurant Week, considering the deal and location. We were considerably underwhelmed by the experience. We arrived on time and was seated rather quickly, which was nice. However, we were left sitting with our menus for 15 minutes before anyone even stopped by to introduce themselves as our waiter, let alone take our drink order. When our someone finally did arrive, he took our drink order and left us waiting for another 15 minutes. 30 minutes into our dining experience and we hadn't even ordered our food! Food was average, there really wasn't anything spectacular that we tried. I even had to send our creme brulee back... the sugar on top was gooey instead of the crisp! Uhhh, that seems like a pretty rookie move considering the restaurant's reputation. There's no doubt that the ambiance and location is spectacular, but that really didn't make up for the poor service and rather surprising mediocrity of the food. It's not likely I'll make another visit soon, let alone pay full price for it. read more

There is absolutely nothing great about this place except the view- but even that isn't amazing enough to bring us back. We came in on a Saturday morning and had to wait a good 10 minutes to be sat, despite the fact that there was NO one else waiting and there were plenty of tables available. Our server must have just arrived off the grumpy train as there was not a smile from him the entire meal. Our food was incredibly disgusting and borderline inedible. The hollandaise sauce looked a pale yellow as if it was fresh- from a can. The prime rib was caked in a dry, overpowering and salty rub and was grossly overcooked. The only mildly redeeming dish was the crab mango tower, but even that was drenched in mayo, but had virtually no other seasonings. The lobster sandwich was also drenched in mayo and lacked flavor. We would have requested salt and pepper from our server, but he was hard to come by and would have grimaced and grumbled at our request. 3 of us and 3 nasty dishes and an appetizer later, we were served the bill- a whopping $87 for awful food and even worse service. Is it really their fault? I should have known better. You don't order pizza from a Mexican restaurant and you sure as hell don't go to a fish house and order breakfast. They have such an awesome location on the water with views of downtown but thats about all they have goin for them. Our waiter was not exactly johnny on the spot, and forgot to bring out the basket of muffins and rolls that is supposed to come with your meal. He also seemed to be rationing the coffee like he was some kind of prepper. I ordered french toast with a side of potatoes, and my wife ordered the lobster and shrimp fritatta, which she described as "ok". Which is more than I can say for mine. The french toast and potatoes were cold and boring. Well thats not fair. If the potatoes were hot they probably would have been pretty good. There was not much that could have saved the french toast though. As cold and boring as that girlfriend (or boyfriend) you had that you knew you should have broken up with but stuck it out because she was hot. Your looks can only take you so far, at some point you have to be able to hold a conversation or if you're a high class restaurant, cook a decent breakfast if thats what you are offering. I may go back and try dinner with a view, but I'm not counting on them too much. read more

Peohe's used to be pretty darn good way back when (probably around 10 years ago). But the last couple times I've been have been "alright". I don't think they are anywhere near the quality they used to be for the money. Il Fornaio just a few yards down would be a better bet for a quality meal. read more

I still love this place, it's just that I never got to use my Landry's reward that I paid for because they couldn't figure out the account number and I was asked to call so many times and I JUST GAVE UP after a few times of trying to find it. I've been here so many times and really disappointed on this trip. I made a reservation for 430pm just in case it was crazy crowded.. We had flights to catch. We got there early and the place was empty. The host told us to sit in lounge and wait. About 10 mins after our resie time I went back to the desk and we were seated. Here's the deal... I've always loved the food and the view but the service all around needs a lot of work! The server was slow and irritated when we told him we had flights to catch. He also pushed expensive items and add on items... Super cheesy seriously. I'm used to the lunch and happy hour, dinner was expensive ($40 average entree) and honestly I prefer the lunch menu. FYI there is a sushi bar inside but if you sit at the reserved tables outside they don't even bring a sushi menu unless you happen to ask for it ( My guess is the sushi is much less costly than the entrees). I asked for it and the server was clearly irritated. We had a 430 reservation and left at 6pm... We ate: Crab mango stack appetizer... Amazing.. The whole reason I come here Thai soup appetizer 2 sushi rolls THAT'S IT... Not 90 mins worth of food people! Oh and my BF had ordered the pork volcano dish initially... 20 mins after ordering they said they were out (mind you it's now 5pm not end of night.. Bad communication from kitchen to servers at start of service) On the way out I realized the large number of outdoor tables available to walk in traffic were STILL available. I'm not quite sure what happened to this place. I remember coming here and being impressed by the view and the food. Well the view is still outstanding, but the food seems to have gone down in quality. I took my girlfriend there for an early valentine's dinner and I think I might need to go to a second restaurant tomorrow to apologize. We both ordered the Peohe's grill, which came with salmon, scallops and shrimps. First off all the food was all just lukewarm. My girlfriend didn't seem to mind, so I just went with it. Now I'm pretty sure it only takes a few minutes to grill seafood, so I was surprised that the scallops were undercooked. I didn't say anything at first, but I looked at my girlfriend's plate and it was the same for hers. I noticed there was a cook doing quality control as the plates came out, and I'm surprised he didn't notice the scallops as they came out. It's pretty dim at your table, but in the full light of a kitchen you should be able to tell that the food needs a little work. Best part of the meal, mango mojito... Sad to say but I think I'll avoid Peohe's. Almost forgot...the mango mojito was delish! read more

We have been to Chart House restaurants across the country and this location does not meet their standards by a million miles. The food was adequate. To describe the service as inattentive would be generous. I spoke with the manager about our experience and she avoided eye (and any other form of) contact with us. You are paying for a nice view but that is the extent of what this restaurant has to offer. read more

Not worth repeating! My wife and I went to dinner at Peohe's and it was a very bad experience. It all started fine but our order of calamari arrived cold (ok, not fridge cold but room temperature). I was willing overlook the calamari but when the server brought us our drinks she spilled my wife's sangria all over my side and lap. She apologized and disappeared for about 20 minutes leaving me covered in sangria. The next time we saw her she acted like nothing had happened even though I was sitting there in obviously wet cloths. She didn't even bother cleaning up the ice or pieces of fruit on the floor from the sangria--they sat there for the entire meal! To make things worse, when the check arrived, nothing had been taken off. So basically, I'm on a date with my wife, the server dumps a drink in my lap and then I'm charged for the full meal?? What is going on here??? I asked to speak to the manager and when she came over I told her to watch out for the ice and she said, " yeah, I see it". I then explained what happened and that I felt it was unacceptable. She took our check and said she would take care of it. When she returned she indicated that she had comped our apps but even though she apologized, her tone and body language spoke more loudly that her words. She was obviously not sorry and doing the minimum possible. I will never return. Given the price point of this restaurant, I would have expected a response that included an offer to have my wine soaked shirt and pants cleaned and a real apology. We came here for lunch on a saturday. View deserves 5 stars. I didn't think the interior was cheesey at all, we all liked it. Service was very slow. this is a huge restaurant, and they had guests spread out all over, and the same few waiters running all over the restaurant taking care of everyone. ONION RINGS, the best part!! Oh my, they were awesome!! The spinach salad was awesome. None of us cared for the lobster bisque, it was kinda bleh. The Truffle kisses were pretty good, and the crab stuffed tilapia was a little better then ok. the Rice that came with the tilapia was the best part. We had bloody mary's and a Volcano drink, both were pretty good. The bento boxes were very yummy, our group had the shrimp and chicken. The fish and chips were good I heard. The chocolate lava cake was a let down. it wasn't a lava cake at all. it was pretty much cooked all the way through and the outside edges were over done. Due to the slow service, we were there about 2.5 hours. We had a good time all in all. read more

FYI, I do a lot of mystery shopping and restaurant reviews and have developed a fine eye towards detail in high end restaurants. I was not mystery shopping last night but simply enjoying an anniversary dinner with my wife. Here is my review: Making a reservation was easy, however the voice on the other line seemed a little rushed but also sounded like an aloof teenager. Not really a good first impression. I did have a few requests such as a seat with a view and wanted to let them know I was celebrating and anniversary, in case they do anything special which he seemed to understand. That evening I got to the restaurant around 845pm, on time. I find out Peohe's validates for 3 hours which is outstanding. We were warmly greeted by the hostess and told her that we had requested a window view. She informed us that they were generally running about 15 minutes behind, which seems odd since the restaurant was 75% empty. We were invited to sit in the bar which we did. The bar itself was slightly dirty, stray napkins and stirrers on the floor, no one taking the time to pick them up. It was at least 3 minutes before we were acknowledged at the bar. Keep in mind the bar was not busy. The bartender proceeded to start a mixed drink, turning on a blender and then took our orders. It was hard to hear him. Once ordered the beer and wine was very good. We were seated shortly, the restaurant has very tasteful and visually stunning decor and was generally kept very clean. We were led to a nice patio table with a view. I was glad my request was honored. It took about 5 minutes for our server to arrive. I informed him I was a Landry's select member and offered my card, which he said no worries, he would take care of it at the end of the meal. The waiter noticed I still had a drink but asked my guest if she needed another beverage which she declined. He also recommended the crab/Mango stack, which was very good. Shortly after the bread and water came out. The bread was flat, uninspiring. Shortly after the stack came out. It was very good tasty, it could use one more crostini though. At that time we did order our entrees, my date getting the 10oz. prime rib and myself getting the filet and shrimp. We were also asked if we wanted to put in the order for the lava cake which we did at that time. About 15 minutes later the entrees came out, presentation was good but the temperature of the meat was lukewarm. The shrimp came out a few minutes later and was piping hot. The entrees were very good except the temperature. At this point my back was starting to hurt. The patio chairs though cushioned have a hole right in the middle of the back. The edges of this frame can dig in to your back. When we were done with the entrees the server cleared the plates but did something odd, he cleared it over my head. I would never do this. One could accidentally slop some sauce on the customer or worse drop a utensil hurting them. The server also boxed our leftovers. Then came the crowned glory, the chocolate lave cake, it was very good. The server was indulging us by taking our photo but I could tell he was getting tired and was less cheerful. They had also begun stacking the tables for the janitorial crew while we were still eating. I was a little annoyed by this. I understand the need to get your closing work done, but when people are still eating (and we were not the only people in the patio area, some people were still eating entrees) it does create disruption to the ambiance. We had a few left over bites of the cake that we wanted boxed. Our sever just simply dropped another box at our table. Not good. This is a high end place, the server boxes the customers food. The check came. I had some gift cards to pay with which was not a problem, but the server offered us a membership to Landry's select, after I had already told him we were members at the beginning of the meal. He apologized, reran the check and added on my Landry's points. Not once did anyone say Happy Anniversary or recognize our special occasion. We did not need a complimentary desert or anything of the sort but it is the principle of the restaurant remembering special occasions. Somehow my clear message to the host when I made the reservation was not translated to the wait staff. Finally I checked the servers name on my check. It was totally different than the real name of our server, faux pas. Overall I give the food a 4, but the service a 2. The service wasn't horrible, it was just not up to the expectations of a three or four star venue. I'm a big fan of all the Landry's restaurants, but do not plan on visiting this one again until changes are made. Came with a very large party for dinner. I had their signature mahi mahi dish and it was just okay. Fish was a bit dry. I soon learned that was a theme for most of the entrées. My girlfriend had the tilapia, which I had a taste of, and I would compare it to frozen fish sticks. People who had the chicken commented that it was dry and they barely touched their sides since it didn't fit well with the dish. One of the members in our party found part of a steel wool scrubbing pad in her dish. How does that even get in the food?!?!?! Additionally, presentation for all dishes were sub-par. For as much money as they charge, they need to provide something that customers will be enthusiastic to eat. I really wanted to like it, but Peohe's gives very little reason for anyone to. Food was mediocre at best and worth nowhere near the inflated prices they are charging. Bright spot of my experience was the service and location. read more

Worst meal I've had in a while. Lobster bisque was peppery and heavy, instead flavorful and creamy. Crab stuffed shrimp looked and tasted like it was freezer burnt. Dried out. Coconut shrimp were the quality of Long John Silvers and the coconut rice was worst than Uncle Ben's. Good service and beautiful view. The waiter was gracious enough to take one meal off the bill. Then waited for another 15 minutes when it was way past out reservation time. Shrimp entree was not fresh at all while the price is $40. So happy to see Peohe's reopened as soon as they could for Memorial Day weekend. They kept serving for take out during the lock down with specials, including allowing happy hours deals like appetizer combos, etc. Great deals and a great way to get us to drive over the bridge to pick up dinner! Quality on the to-go dinners was just as good as in person dining. We dined in Tuesday night and the service and quality was spot on. They went out of their way to make us feel comfortable with the ridiculous imposed restrictions they have to follow now, which were all fine with us. (I would recommend losing the plastic serving gloves, they aren't required and they really seem to carry around more bacteria, etc., than clean hands do.) The lobster bisque was LOADED with fresh lobster, almost a full menu as well from what I could tell, and the Surf and Turf roll was amazing. Happy Hour is still on as well even though it isn't posted on their website currently, so show up early and enjoy a full array of great Happy Hour drinks and apps. I highly recommend Peohe's. My family and I were in on Easter day for opentable brunch. To our surprise, it was not as busy as other places normally are. Great ambience. This was my first time at Peohe's and was very excited about it. My husband and I wanted to check out their happy hour for drinks and appetizers with a view. We arrived and were asked at the front desk to find our own tables.... really? My husband and I found a table out on the patio and waited to be helped. Several waiters saw us arrive and never acknowledged us. Wait staff attended to others, saw us and kept walking without even offering us a menu. After sitting at the table unattended for 25 minutes... My husband and I were about to walk out when I asked a waiter if we needed to order our drinks and appetizers at the bar and take them out to the patio ourselves... Waiter handed us a menu and apologized. We decided to stay and give them a try. My husband and I ordered a couple of "easy" drinks (margaritas) and we received them 20 minutes later. The waiter apologized for the delay. We tasted the margaritas and they were watered down and tasted like lemonade. We were very disappointed and we decided to just leave. Overall... We will never be back again. Too bad, beautiful location. We ended up at a nearby restaurant and it was fantastic! read more

The ambiance is the best part about this place. The fish and chips were pretty dry but the California burger was enjoyed by the hubby. My husband and I went to Peohe's last weekend looking for a nice seafood dinner. I'd been to Peohe's quite a few years ago and recalled that it was lovely with the indoor stream with live fish and the food was good. Boy were we disappointed... they recently remodeled and the stream is no more - now it's a cheesy pool of plastic beads reminiscent of 1960's Tomorrowland. We were seated at a table that didn't have setups, and so had to retrieve utensils and bread plates from a nearby empty table. Then my husband ordered an Arnold Palmer, which never arrived. He ordered one of the catch-of-the-day items which arrived as a small, plain slab of grilled fish (so sauce or embellishment of any kind), rice and steamed vegetables ($32). I ordered their "house specialty" - Mahi Mahi with a macadamia/banana sauce on top. This fish was fine but sauce very unappealing to look at (sort of gooey and white), and quite flavorless. It came only with rice ($32). We also had salads, which were quite lovely, but a little pricey. Our bill came to over $100 - no drinks, no appetizers, no dessert or coffee. A bit expensive for mediocre fare, tacky decor, and lousy service. We honestly couldn't wait to leave...We won't be back and definately won't recommend to friends. read more

The only good thing this place has over other places is the spectacular view of Downtown San Diego, especially at night time. The service was also great. But for the price point of their main entrees, presentation and taste should be on-point. Our dishes looked like they were just slapped onto our plates and sent on their merry way to our table. I would've probably forgotten how they looked like if they tasted out of this world but unfortunately, they tasted as sad as they looked. Our desserts weren't worth writing home about it either. Well, I hate to complain since Peohe's is right in my backyard, but I gotta call it like I see it. The last time we were here, the waiter sold us and our friends two $25.00 cards that just had to be registered on line, and then upon our return, we'd be able to redeem the $25. and earn points. So, we went back for happy hour tonight. The service was AWFUL! We ended up going to the bar ourselves to order. our drinks We wrote our own food order on a piece of paper since our waiter was no where to be seen. When the food finally arrived, it was just terrible. The bbq pork sliders were soggy, with no bbq sauce, just bad! The onion rings were soggy and greasy. The coconut soup was mediocre. Really, nothing we ordered was worth the calories. So, we put out our cards, only to come to find out that our card registration didn't activate the card. Our friends experienced problems activating his on line, so he actually had to call to activate it. All in all, a terrible experience. The only thing going for this place is the location, right on the bay. I'm thinking that after this whole fiasco today, we may not ever go back even to redeem our $25, it was that bad. read more

Today my husband and I celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary with a luncheon for 40 adults and 7 children at Peohe's and we couldn't have been more pleased. Everything was perfect from the table set/up to the service to the food and oh the view! The event manager was SO helpful and accommodating. We highly recommend this venue and will be back - maybe not with 45 of our family and friends but certainly for another meal! read more

I give Peohe's two thumbs down. What an over-rated restaurant. The decor is outdated, the chairs in the dining area are frayed and material is faded. We had pigeons walking through the dining area while we were eating. All of the waiters walk around and kiss butt quite well, but there is no product here. With a $27 Mahi Mahi dish you have to pay for a salad at $7. If you want some bread with your meal you have to ask for it. We had a Pu Pu appetizer in the lounge, because they don't serve dinner until 5:00pm, it was $27, if you were anorexic you would be appetized. So! Four people, four dinners, one appetizer, one salad, 8 beverages and a lot of butt kissing $265. The food and the experience just weren't worth it. read more

My parents and I had a fantastic experience here after searching for some new restaurants to try in San Diego. I got a fantastic crab stuffed halibut that was extremely juicy and bursting with flavor. My mom's salad (which I got to take a bite of) was extremely delicious without being smothered in a heavy dressing. This place is so romantic! There's a bay view, but even if you don't get a table by the window, the interior is very nice. It's definitely a date place and would be nice for a dressy girl's night out. Peohe's isn't perfect, but the presentation and service are great. I usually order the Halibut Mai'a and love the flavor, but it was on the dry side the last time I had it. read more
