Because of that, I came back for multiple oil changes. Unfortunately, my most recent visit was completely different. I was charged a high price for what should have been a simple oil change and cabin/air filter replacement, and I ended up waiting about two hours for the work to be completed. After talking it through with someone more familiar with car maintenance, it became clear that I was likely overcharged for a job that should have been quicker and more reasonably priced. What made the experience worse was the interaction before my appointment. When I asked for clarification about being told I may need "air," EU laughed at me for asking. I'm neurodivergent and sometimes take things more literally, so I was just trying to confirm whether I was being charged for something that is often free. Instead of explaining, I felt mocked for asking a simple question. Because of this experience, I no longer feel comfortable or confident returning here. I'm sharing this as a caution for other customers--especially women and neurodivergent people--who may not be as familiar with car maintenance and rely on mechanics to be honest, respectful, and transparent.

He always charged me a fair price which is why I respect him a lot. I've never had a BS service recommended by him. Everything is "hey, look at this" or "this is what is wrong". If you are looking for an independent mechanic H & A auto is a trustworthy place that still exists in this day and age.

He not only diagnosed it correctly, he worked with Toyota to get an OEM computer. Toyota allocates these sparingly (to keep 3rd parties from price-gouging) and he actually had to write them to obtain one. He installed it and did a full transmission service - all at a great price I got the car back and its as good as new! My local mechanic told me my motor is toast and needs the motor rebuilt which will cost minimum $4500! So I decided to call Mesa Wesr again and talked to the owner Norm and told him about the issue with my motor. He was very friendly and scheduled a service for my bus so they can diagnose the problem. After being in his garage a few days he called me and told me all I needed was for the heads to be retorqued, valves adjusted and carburetor cleaned and my motor is good to go. My total cost was less than $500 and bus never drove so smoothly and powerful! I can't say enough about this honest shop and their entire crew who are all very friendly and very knowledgeable. I cannot say enough great things about the team at Pep Boys on 1950 Newport Blvd, Costa Mesa, especially Armando, the manager. If you're looking for a place that truly takes care of its customers, look no further! This morning (3/17/25), my wife got a flat on the 55 while heading to work around 7:20 AM. The sidewall of her front driver's side tire was punctured, and the warning light came on immediately--a terrifying moment for her. As soon as Pep Boys opened, I called and spoke with Armando, who was incredibly professional, reassuring, and proactive. He immediately told me I could have the car towed to the shop and even asked me to send pictures of the tire's sidewall so he could check inventory before the car even arrived. That level of attention to detail and preparation was a huge relief. Unfortunately, they didn't have the exact tire in stock, but that didn't stop Armando--he quickly called around to locate a replacement and presented multiple options. His communication throughout the entire process was top-notch, keeping me updated every step of the way. What could have been a nightmare of a day turned into nothing more than a minor inconvenience, all thanks to Armando and his amazing team. Don't bring your car here unless you want it here all day and still have the car not fixed. I brought my car here to get an oil change and when I got home, my car was leaking oil all over my drive-way. Took it back to another mechanic shop and they told me that they didn't install drain plug correctly. Parking lot was messy and mechanics looked clueless. Returned vehicle this morning after a four wheel brake job four weeks ago. Front making noise, parking brake needed adjustment. Justin and…read moreEnrique have really great teamwork, it got quite busy during the day with customers and lesser staff, but when I came back to pick up, everything felt streamlined and they had cleared out the load. The area has walkable restaraunts/grocery stores, kind of near the road. An oil change estimated around 2.5hrs and the coolant+brakes added another like 2.5 hrs. Went in at 9 and picked up notification at like 2:30PM (wasn't waiting there). No shuttle today (maybe only drop off no pick up), but timely texting. The coffee is pretty good, limited seats inside, solid air conditioning, EXTREMELY CLEAN. They gave me quotes no problem on things I needed to fix and space to do my own research. I appreciate they didn't try to take advantage of a girl/was approachable. There was a google review thingie and coupons for $10 off. Maybe a bit of upsell on the coolant, but i figured my car needed the service once in a while for all the life its had. They suggest a liittle more serious things than I have experienced in the past like shocks/control arms. But overall anything they suggested for immediate repair totaled to a little under $1000 - decent// i did not do everything. I think the tire deals are cheaper than costco (and has some sort of repair warranty), the coolant they use is not the manufacturer brand (a common third party blend, long life), and they offer full synthetic and synthetic blend oil. I came in for an oil change deal ( tip: you can get a coupon if you sign up for the rewards on the chain website too). They also honored super transparently - no price upcharges (basic sedan) besides a bit of tax), the appointment was super easy with a form, email confirmation from the scheduler, coming in at the time- line moved fast. It was a really good deal and I appreciate the nonaggressive sales pitching. Everything was in terms of best interest maintenance. It can be a bit pricy in some things (probably a great deal on tires though), but its probably to the cost of the living area/economy situation of parts. I replaced my rear brake pads and it fixed the squeaking. Overall, I felt like it was a clean earnest location and I was happy to receive the quotes/have an informed choice. Always good to have an idea of what you come here for :). I would come here again, but I guess I do have to see how the quality holds up as I'm not a car person. I'd recommend dropping your car off and walking to the other plazas to try some nice food like crack shack/back bay area walk (if you're motivated to walk that far). Bring a hat as not much shade in the area. They're hiring too!

There's two bozos that work here, Armando & Victor- I guess they're in management, not sure how they got there.. I call them dumb and dumber. They are rude and extremely disrespectful. If you're a woman, they will demean you even if you know more than them. Regardless, my husband took my car in months ago for an oil change, as they always do, they did a tire rotation sales pitch. Long story short- they have no idea how to do a tire rotation. I was hearing scraping noises yada yada, took the car back. Armando made multiple different excuses as to why it was happening, mainly because I hadn't gotten a tire rotation in a while and the other one was that "too many hands have been on the car since". Mind you, I took my car back about a week after the janky tire rotation. He didn't believe that they were responsible so he decided to check footage which low and behold he admitted they messed up. Long story short they were haggling on getting my car fixed at a different mechanic that I wanted to go to. They wanted me to go to their referral. What idiot would take a referral from a business that can't do a simple tire rotation. Regardless, lots of back and forth, Victor continuously haggled providing a refund/covering the additional cost of the extra repairs I had to get as if it was coming directly from his pockets. They essentially screwed on my lug nut incorrectly and they couldn't fix it themselves. A simple tire rotation and they aren't even able to complete it properly. I would avoid coming here at all costs, I've seen other reviews with some horror stories too. Take your car to a reputable place that employ people with integrity. Never got my refund or money back on this but thought I'd warn others.

He didn't make me feel like I was a dumb broad that didn't know anything about tires. He quoted me a fair price for what I requested. Which was for a tire/wheel swap and sensors. They got me in and out as quoted and the gentleman even left the tires and wheels nice and shiny. They made sure to torque down at the end. That was my final test lol, they passed. I called this Jiffy Lube since it was close to the location I was currently at. I needed an oil change instantly and battery check. I called and they said bring my car right over no line at all. I drove here and I must say the gentleman was super friendly, I told him exactly what I needed done, and he was on it. Took about 15-20 minutes or less. No hassle at all. He even gave me a free True Brand Fuel to try, demonstrated how to use it by saving 40 miles at most for my fuel tank. They definitely value new customers, and I have a reason to come back if I needed something done instantly. Most places will try to sell you things or tell you need to get this and that changed etc. He did check my car out and said everything was fine.

Be careful! Gave the attendant $50 in CASH for my gas on pump #2. When my credit did not show up…read moreat my pump, he INSISTED that I had said pump #1 which he had credited and another driver had filled up and drove off on my dollar. The attendant bullied me insisting it was my mistake until after 10 minutes of bullying me he called the owner saying, " Some lady is saying she told me the wrong pump"... asked the owner to pull up the video recording and FINALLY HEARD that he had been wrong. With a very weak apology after ALL of that arguing and harassment, he admitted, "I guess I was wrong and the owner told him to credit my pump for what I had paid for. BE SURE YOU ARE PAYING ATTENTION. He could have readily and politely offered to have the video accessed rather than bullying me and hoping I just go away.

For example, my car has staggered wheels and even though I was there for something else, he said I need tires and immediately was on the phone getting a price for a brand I wouldn't use and not even quoting two different sizes. Not the only time. My last experience was them replacing the radiator and putting back a worn out hose. Luckily another shop notified me of a leak and said to bring it back to them. The mgr. strikes me as someone who is too busy selling you the next repair.,
