This is a really solid tasting menu, all of the dishes were very tasty. However, it felt none of the dishes were super innovative nor blew my mind especially for the hefty price tag of $390, but they were executed well and delicious. The foie gras supplement was my favorite dish of the evening. This is probably the best foie gras I've ever had in my life. The pate was super buttery and savory and creamy. It was wrapped with some beets to give a subtle sweetness, a perfect complement to the foie gras. Applied to the brioche bread they gave with the dish, it was a heavenly bite. Their iconic dish, the oysters and pearls, was well deserved to be their signature. It is rich and creamy; the chives provide a nice balance; and the caviar is salty and briny and full of umami. The tapioca also provides an interesting texture, a well-designed dish. The scallop in caramelized onion butter sauce was also delicious. Caramelized onions are one of my favorites, so a sauce with rich caramelized onions is perfect. The chicken dish was also super interesting. The chicken did not feel like chicken, it had the texture of fish / seafood, I was quite impressed with how they achieved this. My biggest concern with this place is how worth-it it is. I am very hesitant about places that serve root vegetables as-is with no innovative preparation or flavors elevating the dish. A lot of the flavors were really good but also pretty standard (maybe even a bit underwhelming) for what I expected of a restaurant of this calibre. And they have a bunch of supplements of wagyu and premium caviar for $135 and $60 extra, which although they looked delicious, is insane given the expensive base price you're already paying. The service was very attentive, they even gave us extra bread and replacement bread when we mentioned one tasted a bit burnt. Food was French exquisite and super refined, it was the core strength of a perpetual 3-Michelin star restaurant. The place has a beautiful cuty view. We have had lunch at Per Se in Nov 2015. On the recent visit, I honestly felt we were rushed to cycle through the dinner courses. Any upscale restaurants should expect their customers to savor every bite and dwell in their heavenly episodes. The dessert delivery and presentation was a total surprise. It was a busy scene with no less than four servers and helpers delivering 20 dishes all at once. It is like having dim sums in a premier French restaurant. We were not ask if we wanted dessert drinks and coffees. I looked back at my 2015 Per Se lunch dessert pictures and they were presented beautifully and most importantly - French classy ! I experienced flavors that were new and profound. Honestly, spectacular all around from atmosphere, food, and service. The last few fine dining restaurants I went to were underwhelming and I almost didn't want to go here because of poor recent experiences where price did not meet value. This was not the case with Per Se, it was worth every penny. The venue is located on the 4th floor and most seatings had an excellent view of Columbus square, which happened to snow during our dining experience giving us a beautiful albeit cloudy. Love the high ceilings , plants throughout, with a modern touch. The service was as you would expect from Michelin restaurants executed to perfection through the entire dining experience. But let's get to the food, it is seasonal so you may not experience the same dishes I had but ALL dishes was excellent. I'd like to call out a few, the foie gras had a little sweetness and perfect texture, it was heaven for each bite. I had to slow myself down to savor the moment, a flavor I've never experienced. The oysters and pearl was indescribable, it was the perfect creamy concoction. And then the fine lamb, wow cooled to perfection, absolutely nothing you can change. Each bite was heaven. And finally the desert..I mean desserts was like a fireworks show to end your night. At the end I felt perfectly content, not too full and not starving. Located on the 4th floor of the Columbus circle mall this 3 star Michelin is definitely a must go. The interior was dimly lit, clean and had a great view of the city skyline. Hopefully you can catch the sunset. The food was exceptional where each course was intricate and flavorful. The staff was attentive and even provided me a blazer because I wore a short sleeve collared shirt. FYI wear a long sleeve button down at minimum. In fact, the maitre d' has extremely the right touch to read the room and know who appreciate sophistication and who is feeling a bit overwhelmed requiring the need to bring some levity by removing the upscale ambience when needed. This was the fanciest meal I've ever had! It's a Thomas Keller restaurant who is also the owner of the French Laundry in California. Each diner had their own personal waiter at the table that uniformly walked around the table as if it were a uniform dance. They replaced our silverware after each course during the 5 course meal and poured wine with one hand behind their back the fancy way! Service was 100/10. The food itself was really rich. TL:DR Stellar service, ambiance and drinks. I was a little disappointed at the food. Their whisky sour is to die for! They have a waiting area in the front with a few couches and chairs to use when waiting for the other people in your party. Walking in, the venue was beautiful and serene. My old-friend and I sat at the very back row, facing east, watching the moon that was full and rising. I think we had the most patient and gracious server in the house. Isaiah patiently explained our 8 courses and all the decisions that he needed to make that evening quite a treat. All of the half a dozen staff that assisted us were fantastic. The food however wasn't as mind blowing as I thought it would be. Two memorable dishes stored in memory were the oysters and pearls (first dish) and then the dessert (banchan-style). Other dishes that I remember, but not necessarily loved was the foie (creamy but still had a bit of stringiness I had to cut around) and the lamb. As regular travelers who enjoy the experience of three star dining, our experience at Per Se really left us wondering how on earth this place managed to wrangle three stars out of Michelin. The experience began by being asked to select a wine without having a menu to consult (what?). Since we usually order the wine pairing, I asked to see a menu with the proposed wine matches, and was promptly told that would not be possible. Why? We were told the wines were selected based on current availability -- in other words, whatever was opened. No, no, no. This is not how wine pairing works. Our unwillingness to participate in this charade led us to order martinis, which clearly displeased our waited who became quite rude. I asked to speak with a manager and explained what had happened and offered to settle up for what we had consumed since we were now uncomfortable and wanted to leave. Instead, he took us on a tour of the wine room and waited on us the rest of the evening himself. But there was really no recovering from the bad tone and inexplicable approach to wine choice and, after going through the motions of eating what could best be described as slightly better than average food, we left. They did, un-helpfully, finally provide us with menus as we were leaving. Bizarre. The dining room (which looks like an office building foyer) was seemingly filled with midwestern tourists who were agape at everything and, if this is what keeps Per Se in business, good for them. If you are a sophisticated diner, however, and have numerous top restaurants to compare this to, I think you will be disappointed. read more

Given the $400 pp pricing, we were worried - But Per Se definitely did not disappoint. We came on a Monday evening and had a wonderful 3 hour experience. They change their menu daily and seasonal for the vegetarian tasting menu which I thought was pretty considerate. We chose the tasting menu with no supplement/add ons. Since we were celebrating my birthday, they gave us their delicious house white wine to pair with the seafood dishes and smoked salmon cones. My favorite dishes from the 8 courses (although really more than that since they brought out so many variations of desserts at the end) were: Oysters and Pearls - So creamy with some nice savory flavor with the caviar (their classic dish) Peekytoe Crab Pierogi - Perfectly crisp and light on the outside while inside was very moist and filled with crab meat! Four Story Hillfarm Poularde - chicken was super moist and the bing cherries, glaze and crispy waffle led to each perfect bite. Elysian Fields Farm - Lamb was again so moist! If you didn't feel full from the savory dishes, the variety of desserts will leave you satisfied. The desserts varied from refreshing raspberry sorbet, chocolate mousse, mini donuts to beautifully painted chocolate bon bons. The best part is, you leave with a goody bag. Since we couldn't finish all of our desserts, they packed it up nicely and even added their short bread cookies in a nice Per Se tin box and a chocolate bar. The service was very good - down to earth and not too stuffy. Our assistant server, Christian was so lovely and engaging. I was supposed to come here on a date years ago, and for some reason, I never came to try out this place. Well, I surprisingly decided to give it a whirl, solo. I came here just for a drink. Now, I do not actually drink, but for the first time, I decided to change things up a bit, and see if I could at least find an alcoholic drink that could be a staple for me. I found a glass of white wine that I absolutely love and will from now on be my go-to, thanks to the host here - the Château Suduiraut. I was seated in the mock bar area facing the skyline. As I had arrived in the evening, the sun had already set, but my drink, coupled by my views, were spectacular. I will definitely come back here. For a three star michelin restaurant I was overall satisfied but not completely blown away. This was our first restaurant of this caliber so expectations were high. The servers brought different energy to the table, where the main server brought mixed energy through his conversation. The service was clearly scripted and followed to a T. At times it felt like an orchestra and it was awesome to see plates being placed just so. I appreciated that the menu clearly stated that the tip was included in the service so I felt no need to tip extra. The amuse-bouche was confusing. The first one I tried was the salmon cone which they are known for and it was SPECTACULAR. The second one I tried was the korean sweet potato and that felt so out of place being that this is a french restaurant. The third was the oddest, it reminded me of a hotdog but congealed and there was a bit of gristle that I found which was not pleasant. Dare I say spam like. Being that this was not on the menu I am not certain I can really judge them off of this. I opted for the upcharge for the appetizer and I thought it was just ok. It was an everything bagel which I thought was subtle and the cone amuse was much better. The lobster was amazing I never had lobster cooked that way and to that temperature, truly a masterpiece. The bread was pumpernickel which some may find not pleasant but I really appreciated the work that went into making the dough because it was checkered. The butter tasted just fine, I really enjoy french butter so I was left wanting something more from the animal farm butter. The beef short rib was to die for, I would gladly come back for this. The crispy edges, the tender middle, the FLAVOR. Spectacular. The hassleback potato was really flavorful and tender. There was a liver component on top and it really tied the whole dish together. The desserts were just ok. I have had to die for sticky toffee pudding and what was given was just not it. It was however beautifully presented. The gingerbread ice cream was delightful. I love ginger and I loved this. The zebra cake had fresh mint and didn't taste that good. Now, they came around and gave extra dessert which I found delightful. We were given these amazing donuts that I thought tasted like funnel cake and I LOVE funnel cake, this faux cappucino that was ice cream, the creme brulee macron topping was great but the flavor was just plain tasting. Then they brought us MORE dessert, we were given each bon bon which we found the best flavors were PB&J, Passion Fruit and Walnut. As we left we were given a copy of the menu which was cute and we were given these sandwich cookies that had this delicious shortbread with amazing chocolate ganache between them. I had high expectations for 3 stars and Per Se met most of them. We dined in the Salon Lounge and paid $150 deposit for our reservation. Understanding that this was a limited menu, we would love to experience the main dining room's menu, however, I really enjoyed the Salon Lounge atmosphere, decor, and furniture. Myself and three long time friends went to Per Se to celebrate two of us who are about to be first time fathers. We did not take the booking of the dinner lightly given the price and that it would leave a dent in our pockets as this sort of dining is not the norm for us. This was truly supposed to be a one-time special occasion to celebrate momentous life events, and we expected a three Michelin star restaurant to be up to the task. They asked us prior to the dinner if we were celebrating anything, and we told them that two of us were days/weeks away from having daughters and becoming first time fathers. Upon sitting down, a waitress said she saw we were celebrating a birthday. I corrected her, saying that we were actually celebrating two almost new fathers, not a birthday. Rather than apologizing and asking who the fathers to be were and taking an interest in that, it was argued that she thought the note said something else. We were willing to let that go, assuming that they would correct the error and because we were obviously very excited for the meal. Don't get me wrong, the cocktails were excellent, the wine was delicious, and the plates were beautiful and mostly delicious, including a few memorable bites (mostly ones where you had to pay a considerable amount extra as a "supplement" alternative choice on top of the original price). Anyone who says the food isn't very good is probably exaggerating, but DO NOT expect to leave full. The portion sizes, especially the "mains", were insanely small. There was one piece of bread served with one course. The cheese "course" was a two bite mousse. Desserts were somewhat substantial and were good but not memorable. When you pay this much for a meal, you should leave satisfied. We did not. The food itself aside, what we expected from such a restaurant from service and ambiance was simply not met. It felt stuffy. The staff was generally okay and there were some good one liners when we engaged, but overall, warm was not a word we would use to describe how we were welcomed. The biggest disappointment was that there was ZERO done in regards to what we were celebrating other than a simple congratulations said to us at the end. And this is AFTER they made the mistake of asking if it was a birthday, when THEY were the ones who asked us if we were celebrating anything prior to coming in. It doesn't take much - a bottle of champagne, something extra thrown in as a surprise for the dads to be, some sort of departing gift, a small comp off the huge price of the expecting dads....nothing. This really was an inexcusable miss on their part. For over $700 a person, we left feeing extremely let down by the level of service and lack of attention to detail. We also wanted a slice of pizza. We expected so much more from such an acclaimed restaurant, and would suggest looking anywhere else for a special occasion. The best part of the meal of course was the desserts tray with 5-6 different desserts one better than the next! Booked a table for two to ring in my seventh decade. I've been fortunate enough to have visited many restaurants around the country in my lifetime but have never had the opportunity to visit a Thomas Keller restaurant. My expectations were very high, yet somehow the food and service managed to exceed them. We made memories that night that are priceless. Date: 5/20/2024 Monday Tasting Menu: Vegetarian or Regular Price: $390 per person incl. service charge + tax Supplements you can choose: Sea Urchin Donburi $60 / Foie Gras @ $45 / Wagyu @ $135 Reserve on tock $200 pp deposit Michelin 3 stars To be honest, I picked Per Se just because I didn't feel the need to fight for a reservation at French Laundry. It was a lot easier to get one at Per Se plus their menus are similar enough that I thought it will be a good representation of what Thomas Keller's French Laundry is all about. Service was three stars worthy but unfortunately the dishes did not match up to the same level. The tasting menu comes in 9 courses. Strange the way Per Se created the menu as it doesn't separate some of the courses as "or" so the menu looks like they offer more dishes than it really is. For example, the menu listed 12 dishes but you aren't getting 12 as you get to choose one of the two appetizers (oysters and pearls or supplement uni donburi). Same with the salad course, you get to choose between salad of asparagus or supplement foie gras. Same with the entree, you pick between lamb or supplement wagyu. I think adding the word "or" between the dishes helps minimize confusion as the waiter had to explain that we were only getting this or that and the rest that were listed we will get. To start, the amuse bouche cracker was too salty. Their signature dish oysters and pearls was disappointing. I didn't expect the sauce base contains tapioca almost like a rice pudding so it was a bit thicker than I'd like. I was expecting it to be a light oyster base cream broth filled with all the ocean umami goodness. I even inquired with our waiter if French Laundry serves the same exact recipe and he confirmed so. Unfortunately I can't say this is my favorite dish and sort of a let down that I did not fall in love with their signature dish. The supplement foie gras was velvety smooth but bland. There wasn't that foie gras flavor I wish it had. The langoustine and poussin were my two favorites of the night. The langoustine was sweet and tender, paired well with the salsa verde and mole sauce. The poussin was the best bite of chicken I have had in all of the starred restaurants, done to perfection. Assortment of desserts: mint chocolate tart, cappuccino cup, panna cotta, caramel candies, macarons, donut holes, choice of bon bon... Parting gift: tin of cookies Overall Per Se seems to be more of a one star than a three stars to me. It's underwhelming for a three star restaurant just like SingleThread. On the contrary, I feel couple one star restaurants deserve two stars. I guess it's a been there done that, I can check off French Laundry from my to-try list now. read more

Great view of the park. The restaurant, decor, service style and food is very well thought out. They certainly know how to treat their customers. We were seated right away and served water. The multi course menu will definitely require a 2 to 2.5 hr time commitment but it's worth it. If you are not sure of the drink pairing, the sommelier makes excellent recommendations. Every staff member knew our name along with specific details they had asked for when we made the reservation. Loved the attention to detail. read more

I begged my husband for years...YEARS...to come here. It took some threatening for him to relent. What an experiencing. My husband got the vegetarian tasting menu while I got the normal one. The food was spectacular and the portions were perfect. That venison near the end was to die for. It was tender and it melted in the mouth. The desserts at the end were the perfect touch and you know it's good when you're so full but you eat it anyway and don't regret it. The bonbons were the icing on the cake and I loved we got to pick. I'm pretty sure other tables asked for one of each but we were too full to do that. And when you leave, you get these little shortbread cookies in these adorable tin boxes. Man I love these restaurants. The ambiance was busy but it's not loud to the point you can't hear anything. Service was impeccable and the staff were very friendly. Overall, I'd return in the future and I'll bring other friends along. read more
