I usually go to the place across the street. I decided why not give this place a try. Looked at the menu, it's new based on the prices being different from last month's menu (hint: it's gone up). Ok, still willing to give it a shot. Decided on the beef rib pho. It's pictured on the menu (I forgot to take a picture for comparison purposes!) but to give you idea, it shows two full sized beef ribs. I order and it comes out. I see the 2 pieces and I'm like ok. Are there 2 more pieces at the bottom? Go digging for it. Nope. I asked them and they said oh yah here's two pieces. Yeah. No. This is essentially one piece cut in half and called "2". It's definitely not 2. My picture honestly makes them look much larger than they really were. If you saw what was on the menu and what I received you'd totally agree, these two pieces make up a whole, they don't qualify as 2 full rib pieces as is pictured on their menu. If Phil's bbq tried to sell you this as 2 beef ribs I'm sure you'd throw a fit lol. Now I eat a LOT of beef ribs. Never have I ever had any this short unless it was cut. They tried to blame it on an old menu. Except, this is literally less than a month old. The prices are all higher than the menu that others have taken on Yelp a month ago. So, how could this be an "old" menu. Not to mention, it said there's 3 meats. The ribs, rare steak and meatballs. I started to eat it. And I'm looking for the meatballs. Yeah, non whatsoever. I had to ask for meatballs and they bring me a bowl for 4 cut pieces. I'm sorry, but when I'm eating anything the last thing I want to do is check and verify I received everything I was supposed to get. Not to mention, my entire bowl was full of noodles that were cut like it was being fed to a toddler. More than half of bowl the noodles were 1" long. I ended up just taking most of the meal home. I was so disappointed I didn't even enjoy it anymore. When the bill came, I decided to check the automatic tip calculations because if they're going to cheat you on the ingredients well, I wouldn't be surprised if they did it on the tip too and sure enough, the tip is based off the taxes total and not the before tax subtotal. This review is based on a to-go order that included their rib pho and some spring rolls. One of the problems I've encountered when ordering pho to go, or any dish that has condiments or is de-constructed, is that you don't get everything with the order that you need. I was beyond pleasantly surprised with I got home with my order and there was an abundance of fresh condiments for the pho. That alone earn the 4 starts easily. I was also very happy with the quantity and quality of the pho. It's a bit pricey for pho, but it was worth it. The rolls were hand rolled, seemed fresh, and good sized. Came here with a large group and we ordered a variety including vermicelli, pho, broken rice, and other noodle dishes and all of it was flavorful and delicious! Pho Lucky is back baby! I was looking for a remedy to cure my congestion and body aches. Pho Lucky serves that scorching hot noodle soup that warms your soul and fills your belly. I ordered the Rare Steak pho bowl and egg rolls. Let's talk about three things in this review: 1. Service - super attentive uncle greeted me at the door and got me to my seat right away. Once I placed my order I had food at my table before I could scroll to the bottom of my Instagram feed. The table had all the condiments and utensils you could ask for at a typical pho joint. 2. Food - The egg rolls were crispy and served with refreshing and crisp lettuce alongside some palette cleansing mint and the classic fish sauce dip concoction. Pro tip, add a lil sriracha to tame down that scent and add a little kick! The pho bowl came just as expected, at the scorching hot temp that will burn your tongue if you don't add any of the generous toppings (basil, lime, and bean sprouts my go-to!) but will also cleanse your soul of any impurities you walked in with. The flavor was on point, not oily and not watery, just the right balance to warm the marrow in my bones. Generous slices of beef that cooked to just the right tenderness from the hot broth. 3. Ambiance - It's a pho joint, great spot for a casual lunch or dinner. (or hangover, iykyk) The renovations are beautiful, bright and cheery place to eat! It's a sit down restaurant so you'd think you'd have to wait a while but the service is quick and as I mentioned earlier I got my food almost immediately! Easily faster than I could have if I went through a Jack in the box drive thru and definitely feels healthier than some of the greasy options in the parking lot. They had typical top 40 station playing and some remix holiday jams (Santa goes to EDC kind of deal) playing to break the silence and slurping of noodles. The restaurant hosts are equipped with modern handheld devices to take your order and close out your meal with an easy tap to pay with printable receipts. After your meal you can get some steps in next door at the Asian market and buy some snacks or groceries for later! This place is super super delicious! I have to say that! My husband drove by here and saw this pho restaurant and wanted to give a try. And we tried it tonight. My husband ordered a today's special dish which a soup pho with a big bone in it. He enjoyed it very much. The bone carries a lot of meat. I have occasionally been to this pho restaurant MANY years ago, but they closed down, and finally reopened! The pho tastes pretty sweet to me and the broth reminds me of the pho in Nor-Cal, except the noodles are thin (which is pretty common in San Diego). Decent prices, pretty large restaurant, and good service. They're offering a free soda for their grand opening. I also like that they give a side of veggies (the basil leaves, bean sprouts, etc) for each bowl of pho instead of one plate to share-- good for those veggie lovers like myself. It should be a zero. I gave it another try. I went in with my family yesterday. There was only five of us which includes a child. My daughter did not eat, but that's OK. There was five of us in total when I went to go pay for my bill. She charged me for six people which included an 18% gratuity when I asked her why there's only five she said well because you have a big table 1st of all I did not place myself at that table. The waiter told me to sit there so I sat at the table where I was asked to sit, so therefore how is that my fault that I sat at a big table there was five of us which included a disabled senior with a wheelchair so obviously that's why they sat us out a bigger table. When I told her there was five he said well I can't change the bill that's fraudulent charge that they are doing if I didn't look at my receipt, then I would not have known people you need to look this place is a scam. They will try to scam you a lot. Honestly, the tip that they put in I was gonna put in more than what they were asking for, but because of that, they deserved nothing beware everybody if you're gonna go eat here. There was one server with brown hair who scolded us for sitting down, despite the fact that we were standing at the waiting area for five minutes with no one to help us. She then yelled at us, telling us that no one would help us if we just sit down. Keep in mind there were barely five parties in the restaurant at this time. The same thing happened to a Vietnamese elderly couple later. Something I noticed about this was the fact that she would only scold Vietnamese customers while favoring customers who came in speaking English. During our entire duration there, the two table next to us (both non-Vietnamese) were regularly checked up on, while they never came to our table besides the time it took yell at us and take our order...even that was a mess). It's so crazy how a VIETNAMESE owned institution, based on VIETNAMESE food and culture could hold so much prejudice against their own people and just overall disappointing to see. Of all the places in San Diego, Pho Lucky serves up the best pho. The restaurant is very big, nicely lit, and quite fancy for a pho restaurant but the food is affordable and worth its price. Everyone who works there is very attentive, very quick service. I always order the pho dac biet (special) with all the meats, and it only comes in large. Their soup is light, but so flavorful and very hot (temperature-wise). They don't serve the Northern Vietnamese style flat noodles here, unfortunately. The meat is delicious, they give a lot. Their prices are decent not inflated like other pho places and the portions are decent. They still have to work out some of their kinks but staff is so nice. I would give this a 3.5 stars if I could, which by law means it's amazing AF with somewhat decent customer service lol IFYKYK. They changed ownership when they reopened last year, but it's still great quality. The broth is amazing & they're pretty fast. I love the fact that they use metal bowls, YES to boiling hot soup! It's the only way to enjoy pho. My husband likes to order the rare steak with the steak on the side. He also gets an extra small side of soup so he can cook his meat in there without clouding his soup. I order the brisket. They usually have really good brisket quality, but during the busy season the quality lacks a bit. I usually like the fatty brisket because it makes the broth taste better, but sometimes they use the basic brisket with zero fat which I don't like. I'm Vietnamese and love pho and have eaten pho literally all over the world including northern and southern Vietnam. I initially decided to go here because pho cow Cali is always packed. Now I come here because the pho is just as good. It's tasty with the right combination of meat and favor. They have some high end pho like oxtail that is really good and decently priced. The veg plate is in my opinion an initial sign that it's a good pho place. It comes out fresh and moist. The spring rolls have decent amount of meat and good size shrimp that is better than cow Cali. Service was quick and responsive. I find nothing wrong with this place. My go to pho place now. At least until they become too busy with lines. I hope not. I was conflicted about leaving a good review because I don't want it to become another long line like pho Cali. I use to drive to pho Cali and come here if line is too long. I just drive here now. First glance at my bowl, the soup was clear and steam was coming out. Good signs! The bowl was stainless steel but it wasn't hot to touch. Took my first sip of the broth and it was probably the best pho broth I've had in a while. I would say it's even better than pho cow cali and pho ca dao. Noodles were chewy and the broth to noodle ratio was perfect. After I finished my bowl of pho, I had some broth left and it was still hot. Never experienced that before! I'm very critical when it comes to pho as I'm Vietnamese. It is our National dish after all. Pho Lucky hits the spot every time. The broth was hearty and herby. The noodles were chewy. The meats were tender and plenty. And the herbs/veggies were fresh. The main menu is limited to pho and broken rice dishes but that just shows the dedication and speciality of what's offered. Egg roll appetizers come out piping hot with a yummy filling inside the most crunchy delicate wrapper. Service has been friendly every time. The inside is modern and clean. Plenty of parking outside. I came here after seeing the crazy line at Pho Cow Cali and I'm so glad I did! This place is new and very clean plus their food is good! I got the Hu Tieu Tom Cua and was excited because other Pho restaurants don't have it. It was tasty and savory. The Goi Cuon was good and the Cha Gio was crispy and tasty. My nephew tried the beef pho and he was very happy with it. Try this place if u r tired of long lines or slow service at other restaurants. I will definitely be back. The rare steak pho here is delicious! The employees are very nice and the food comes out hot and fast! There is plenty of seating and parking. I like to order a side of vegetables to add to my pho.
