    Bubble Waffle

My first time at the Temple City Phoenix Kitchen location after the San Gabriel one closed, and I was so happy with the experience. Ping was an amazing server, so kind, welcoming, attentive, and full of great recommendations. We ordered the minced chicken with seaweed and fried egg, Thai flavor seafood soup, noodle soup with pork, beef king pao, and sticky rice, and everything was absolutely delicious. The portions are definitely worth the price, and the lemon iced tea was so refreshing. The ambiance also made the meal even better. There was plenty of seating, the benches and chairs were comfortable, and the music was kept at a low enough volume to easily enjoy conversation during the meal. For my birthday, Ping brought us a bubble waffle, which was such a sweet surprise and so good. It was a wonderful experience from start to finish, and I will definitely be back!

I came in the afternoon and there weren't a lot of people. They have a lot of tables inside and a few outside. I got the mixed fruit delight and I was hoping that there would be more fruit in it for the price. It was mostly coconut milk. Not saying that it tasted bad I was just hoping for more for the price.

Honestly this place hasn't changed much from 10+ years ago! Coming here for their food is pretty mediocre. I tried their crunchy chicken fried rice bowl and beef and rice dish and while the beef was good, the chicken dish was practically flavorless and tasted as if you were just eating straight up gluten. The place is definitely better for a quick grab and go of their purple rice jellies or tapioca drinks! Also, there is no ac or wifi and their service in the area isn't great. Not a great place to do study/do work.

my family can always rely on this place for late dinners. prices are good, dishes are great, and service is incredible!

I was craving some good ole wonton noodle soup and ordered online for pickup and it was deeeeelicious. The wonton's were huge!!!! I wish it came with more noodles or had a option to add more noodles for an extra charge.

Good Canto classic dishes, and especially like the crispy chicken wings. Always enjoy their desserts such as mango sago almond pudding.

Came to the Rosemead location to celebrate a family member's birthday on a Friday evening. We were…read moreable to call ahead earlier in the morning and ask if we could be on the wait list or reserve a table. They told us they could reserve a table for us at 6pm. We originally were hoping for 7 or 7:30, but based on how busy and popular this place is I can see why they said no. Come early and get seated right away and there's still ample parking in their parking lot. By the time we left at 7:30p, the lot was packed and people circling around hoping to snag a spot from folks leaving. The restaurant is pretty large and has about 3 rooms with different size tables and booths. No matter the size of your party, there's a table that will accommodate. The staff were very nice and attentive and FAST! We had our food out probably 15 min after we put in our order! Now...on to the food. We ordered one of the set menus for our party of 7 and it was spot on! As you can see in the pictures we had all the "classics". Our set meal could easily be enjoyed by at least 10 people. We had so many leftovers! The food was all well prepared and sufficiently seasoned. Portions of each dish was plentiful and everyone will be able to get enough to satisfy. My favorite items: lobster (duh!), kung pao chicken, pork chops, and shaking beef. The seafood soup is a great starter, and don't forget to add a little vinegar and pepper! Great restaurant in the SGV. This location is much bigger than their Rowland Heights restaurant, but the food is exactly the same. This is a great alternative to the popular Newport Seafood, so don't sleep on this place!

Been looking for an authentic Chinese restaurant. Haven't been to one in a while. This place was…read morerecommended to us by a friend. Came at 530 pm on a tuesday, and there wasen't anyone here yet. Afterwards it filled up quickly!! The main thing I dont like about this place is they dont have the prices on what your ordering. Which I'll get too at the end. Like any other Chinese restaurant, their menu is super extensive. I love how they have a little bit of everything. And its very well organized too. We ordered the following: 1. Crab and fish maw soup- this soup was amazing. It was just the right temp. Got me sweating. Can easily feed 12 people. Great amount of maw. The consistency is just right. Tasted so good!! 2. Small lobster special- on a bed of noodles. It was about 5 lbs. Cooked well. Could do without. Basically flavors. And it was expensive!! About $30 a lb. So this one dish cost basically the same amount as all the other dishes. Which was just too much. If I knew it was that much I would definitely not have ordered it. 3. Walnut shrimp- not the best walnut shrimp I've had. But it was ok. 4. Garlic shrimp- this shrimp dish was ok. Too many bell peppers and onions. It was just ok. 5. Mongolian beef- flavors were not that great. Very tender though. Could've been better. 6. Sea trout- this was amazing!! I love the sauce. Fish was so soft and tender. The heat, the spice, the sweetness. Some of that sauce in white rice was just perfection. It was really really good. Best dish of what we ordered. 7. Kung pao chicken- this was a really good dish. Crispy bits of chicken. But so soft and tender inside. I love the sauce that it was in. It was by far one of the highlights of the meal. It was good food. Price for everything (except the lobster) was pretty good. Food tasted amazing for the most part. Typical Chinese customer service. Pay at the front. Massively large portions. Solid authentic Chinese food.

Its basically just shrimp but they have vinegar sauce yoy can pour or dip. The portion is decent too. The crispy fish had no bones in it and the sauce was amazing with the fish. Fish wss really crispy. There were pieces of shrimp in that dish too. Ordered what my mom kept describing as bo luc lac//shaking beef but it was different. It didnt have enough pepper too it and it was sweeter. I looked at the menu and it said honey pepper. So makes sense why it was sweet. The garlic pieces were good. Some were still half raw so it was extra spicy. I thought the sweet and sour pork would be the same sauce as the fish but its different. Ot was more of a savory sweet sauce. I guess thats why its a shanghai version. Not sure if they sell the other one anymore that ive seen pictures of. I didnt try the snow peas but it mustve been good since it was all gone and we didnt have to take it home.

Atmosphere: It has a lot of old school items and it felt like we were in Hong Kong. Parking: Plenty in the back at this time. The front has parking as well. I ordered the chicken steak with spaghetti and the lemon ice tea. It was huge and tasty. No complaints here. I would rate it 4.5/5! The lemon ice tea came with unlimited refills. I need to confess something to you: I love Chinese food. However, it wasn't until the last few…read moreyears where I've come to realize the distinctions between Hong Kong cuisine and mainland Chinese cuisine. It's been an exploration. But with each new Hong Kong style restaurant I try, the more expansive my view, and belly, get. Alice's Kitchen, specifically this one in Temple City, was a refreshing look at not just the food but the vibe as well. Design - Falling into a different world Walking into Alice's Kitchen from the back parking lot is like walking into a vibrant food court back in the 1980s. Bright neon signs are placed throughout the dining room floor, faux food stalls can be seen to give more of a community feel to the inside, and I love the sprawl of different props of newspapers, t-shirts hung on clotheslines, and big advertisements on the walls like you might see in a food court. It really elevated the atmosphere of the space and I loved their branded orange plates, bowls, spoons, and chopsticks. It gave whimsy to this place. Staff - Cool The staff here are like what you expect from any Chinese restaurant. You try to flag one down or grab their attention with your wandering eyes and when they come over you can tell them what you want. They take your order and usually within 5-7 minutes you'll start to see your food heading your way. Perfect for anyone hungry and dying to eat right away. When you ask for to-go boxes at the end of the meal (you definitely will) moments after you get your food packed someone will appear with a tablet ready for you to pay right there at the table. Talk about speed. Food - Onions galore I see that in Hong Kong cuisine there is this mix match of Western and Chinese tastes put together. This fusion of ideas is what brings something like their large pineapple bun sandwiches to existence. We got the BBQ pork (char siu) pineapple bun sandwich and this came warm with a fried egg, slab of butter, generous slices of BBQ pork, and a savory sauce. For one person, this could be a good main dish to be accompanied by a side. For this split between two people, this is a savory sweet dish perfect to wet the appetite. Highly recommend getting one of these. The sweet & sour pork was nostalgic to me. Served with chunks of white onion, green peppers, and pineapple the flavor of this reminded me very much of the sweet & sour pork Chinese-Korean restaurants serve, except for the color being different and no cabbage in the sauce. It has the sweetness brought out by the pineapple but still a bit of tang and deep savoriness of the pork with each bite. The onions were undercooked and you'll see this as a pattern for all their dishes containing onions. The French style filet mignon chunks were fantastic. Juicy and flavorful, each bite makes the mouth water more and more and the texture gave such pleasant mouth feels. The fried basil accompanying it also gave a burst of freshness and herbacious flavors. Just be careful not to accidentally bite into a chunk of ginger. Unless you love ginger. Then go right ahead. The beef chow fun with black bean sauce was great. Nice balance of their black bean sauce with the textures of the chunks of beef, the onions and peppers in this add a nice crunch and difference in flavor that balances all the savoriness. The tofu with spiced salt was also incredible. When I ate this still piping hot the crisp exterior with the hot soft interior made me smile. The spiced coating was flavorful and with some rice it gives a nice balance with each bite. Final Thoughts With all the food we got for dinner, I'm sure I leaned more into the Chinese cuisine side than the Hong Kong side. However, I was happy with the quality and depth of flavors in everything I had. Alice's Kitchen has definitely been one of the better Hong Kong restaurants I've had and I'm excited to explore more of this cuisine in the future. Can't wait to come back!
