Stumbled upon this place. Such a good hearty and warming breakfast. The best biscuits and gravy i've had so far. Also cornmeal pancakes are soooo good. Service was quick, order, seat yourselves and enjoy! Love the theme of this location. Overall so good

Build Your Own with Pulled Pork and both gravy varieties is my new goto.

"Build Your Own" is my new goto. Pulled pork, fried egg, cheese (sometimes), both gravy types. Heaven. Their new homemade hot sauce is worthy. Staff is usually very nice. A top 3 Portland spot for sure.

Never disappoints. Great biscuits, flaky and buttery with a nice crunch on the outside. Tried the special, a spicy pimento cheese sandwich with fried chicken, hot honey, jalapeños, and added an egg. A terrific way to kick off the day. Good coffee too. I like the thick mugs that keep it hot.

Was visiting from out of town with two friends on a rainy Sunday morning. Parking was, of course, on the street but we had no issue finding a spot in one of the nearby neighborhoods. There was surprisingly no line or wait when we walked in. We ordered at the counter and then sat ourselves. There isn't much seating indoors, maybe 4 or 5 booth tables and additional bar-style seating, so we sat outside which was fully covered and had heaters. I ordered the chicken friend steak with biscuit and mushroom gravy. One friend ordered a biscuit breakfast sandwich (I believe the Reggie) and a homemade red velvet pop tart. The other friend ordered the biscuit with mushroom gravy. Everything was amazing. So flavorful and so comforting. Portions are also pretty big and worth the price. We ended up having to take the pop tart home because we were so full and didn't end up eating it until the following morning but even then it was still delicious. Will definitely be back!

I've heard good things about this place, so I gave it a try. Firstly, the space is not well organized due to being too small to meet the number of customers. Ordering was a little chaotic, as was getting seated and finding utensils. I'm willing to accept chaos if the food is awesome. Was the food awesome? It bordered on it, but couldn't quite make the leap. It didn't lose its grip, and plummet into the chasm of mediocrity, but it dangled with its legs flailing for a bit. "The Reggie", their basic chicken biscuit, was a bit dry. It really could have used a little bit more gravy. The chicken was good, and the breading was excellent. The biscuit itself was the dry part. There was too much of it for the amount of gravy. Now, I'm not from the South. I've only been dabbling in Southern Cuisine for a few years, so I fully admit that I may be missing the point. The chicken fried steak was decent. Smothered with their delicious gravy with an open faced biscuit on the side, it was the stand out meal at the table. The Wedge is interesting. I may have to order one myself to get more of a taste of it. The brisket was a little tough, though. The fries were decent. The cheesy fries were lackluster (a little cheddar melted in the center), but the Cajun fries had a nice spice, and they weren't afraid to heap it on. While it was not the best chicken and biscuit I've had, it certainly was not the worst, but the chicken fried steak stood out from the rest.

Wow. WOW. WOW! So good. I'd been wanting to go here for over a year, and finally made it yesterday. Amazing biscuits and the most creative and delicious biscuit sandwiches. I can't think of words to adequately describe the McIsley. It's a biscuit sandwich with an amazingly tasty fried chicken breast, stone ground mustard and the best pickles I've ever had. They serve this with a ribbon of honey around the plate and this just put it over the top. My dining companion had the Moneyball - biscuit and gravy, with an over easy egg atop it. They offer a choice of sausage or vegan gravy; they had the sausage and unlike the gravy at some places, you could actually see sausage chunks throughout. Really quick delivery of our food. A very clean, comfortable place. On-street parking only.

Homemade biscuits, tasty toppings, and a fantastic staff! Shoutout to the employee who gave us the free mini sauce containers of pimento and apple jam when we swung by in the afternoon for some extra toppings (we had ordered from them in the morning). Perhaps they just didn't want to deal with the little charge, but it made our day! It took a fork to eat the chicken biscuit with gravy, but I would certainly get any of their dishes again! (We also got the brisket biscuit which was divine!)

Some places serve food. Pine State Biscuits serves comfort. The food here is incredible, filling, and absolutely satisfying. I left very full and very happy. The space is on the smaller side if you're planning to eat inside, and since seating is open, tables can fill up quickly. The staff are attentive and welcoming as soon as you walk up to the counter, which makes the experience smooth even when it's busy. Ordering ahead is a great option, especially if you're grabbing food to go. This is a great spot for family, friends, or a casual brunch date. It may not be traditionally romantic, but when the food speaks to your heart and soul like this... it kind of works anyway. Come hungry, plan to be full, and don't be surprised if you're already thinking about your next visit.

Fluffy cake like biscuit - moist Marion berry pop tart - mmmm puff pastry tart Chicken fried steak legit - not that ground beef Reggie We like the sausage gravy better than the mushroom gravy (but both are solid) We came here hungry and we did indeed divulge! We aren't biscuit snobs so maybe we can't tell what's a "legit" biscuit or not, but the food was good and tasty. Bottom line: would hit this place up again

It's been awhile since I have been to this location. You orders first from the counter and then find a place to sit (similar with the other locations). We just ordered The Reggie Deluxe, Grits, and Hash Ups (add brisket) to shared. I really enjoyed the Hash Ups with the brisket as the meat was super tender that you could cut it with a fork. The Reggie Deluxe was still a classic and tasted like it always does. We were lucky to beat the rush.

So hungry from an early flight we stopped by after flying into PDX. We called ahead to see if there was much of a wait/ line and was told 10 or so minutes but it was a lot faster than that which was great. Service was very friendly. We shared Make Your Own biscuit sandwich and the blueberry corn pancakes-- very good! The biscuit was delicious and very large. We had two pancakes rather than the three (didn't know this was an option until the employee offered). It was plenty. We had a side sausage. The pancakes were so good! Hot and delicious. They come with syrup and a lemon wedge which really balances out the sweet from the syrup and corn. We sat outside with heat lamps. It was clean and cozy.

Food: 3/5 Service: 4/5 Ambiance: 4/5 Went here for brunch with a friend, and it was my first time, so I was pretty excited to try it out. The place has both inside and outside seating, and there are plenty of options to choose from on the menu. I ordered the chicken fried steak plate, and woww the portion size was HUGE. The only issue was the gravy to meat ratio it felt so off, and I had to order extra gravy. However, it was $3 for a tiny sauce sized container, which felt a bit ridiculous. We also tried the fried mac n cheese bites ($8). They were super oily, and neither my friend nor I enjoyed them. The beignets ($4) were also a let down they weren't fluffy or soft like I expected. Instead, they were dense and tasted like they had been refried more than once. Would not recommend. Of course, eating here is an indulgent, heavy meal, and I did enjoy the biscuit and gravy a lot. The fried chicken and steak were good at the beginning, but it got a bit tough to eat after a while. The area is really nice for dining and catching up with friends, and I'd be open to coming back to try something different from the menu next time.

The service was friendly and our order came out quickly considering we hit a mini-rush. The inside of the restaurant is cozy, clean, and comfortable. There are a few booths and a couple of tables inside as well as a few picnic tables outside. My daughter and I both got the No. 1 1/2 sandwich with potato salad special. The house smoked five-spice pulled pork was AHHHmazing. The pork was deeply flavorful, the sesame slaw was crunchy and added balance, and the chili-garlic BBQ sauce was the perfect way to bring it all together, flavorful without being overpowering. The thing about sandwiches is, you can have the best filling in the world, but it all hangs on the bread. I'm happy to say that their bread was incredible, delicately chewy, nice loft, but not too much bread. The German potato salad was piquant and flavorful, just what I hoped. For a side, they gave a generous portion. I was fairly stuffed, but managed a couple more bites in honor of Dolly. Now is the time when I tell you I'm not even a sandwich fan. Yes, I eat them, but I don't crave them. I can't wait to return and bring my lobster because he LOVES a sandwich. I never thought I would be retroactively mad at Burnside and Fracture brewing, but if Portland…read morecould've had this the entire time, I would've bypassed the whole craft beer bubble entirely. A big fan of Dimo's Apizza, I heard they were opening up a supper club on the other side of the building in what was once Fracture and I was... loathe to try it. I understand the attraction to that business model and I realize it helps places like Dimo's and Don's establish themselves and eventually open more populist establishments (see Salami Mammi in Beaverton), but the price of entry is typically that of a better chef's table in town and I'm just fine leaving it to the first adopters. But the resulting deli/bakery/grocery/dining room? One of the finest Italian-American experiences this town offers. After initially considering the new take on Sizzle Pie across the street, an acquaintance with far more information and a cooler head suggested I stop into Dimo's. I was no stranger to the Apizza side of the operation and championed its thinner, crisper apizza that bears more resemblance to its New Haven namesake than its (admittedly excellent) New York-leaning counterpart Apizza Scholls. But she walked be right to the door of Specialties, and for that I'll be forever grateful. I could go on at length about the deli case, the seeded rolls, the sandwich variety (vodka parm, roast pork and broccoli rabe). I settled in on an East Coast grinder with capicola, calabrese salami, prosciutto, calabrian peppers, fresh red pepper, fresh mozzarella, oil, vinegar, and basil. Note the lack of mayonnaise or aioli: It can be done. Midafternoon with a bit of work ahead, I opted for an A'Siciliana aranciata (the Sanpellegrino of my youth is now made over here and tastes like Squirt--not what I signed up for). It was a great pairing, as Dimo's made good on its spicy italian and used all of its calabrian ingredients to their greatest potential. The red pepper leaking off of my hands and onto my plate reminded me of the deli sandwiches I used to train myself on in North Jersey once I started to outgrow ham and provolone. But the greatest surprise of all: The pastry case. You put some bomboloni in front of me, I'll be pleased. An $8 slice of chocolate hazelnut layer cake and cappucino? I get it. But you make me a pignoli cookie: The almond-tinged labor of love that teaches everyone the value of a pine nut and the logistics of harvesting them? And you make it so well that I have a Proustian madeline moment that takes me back to my aunt's dining room on Easter with a box of mixed Italian cookies on the table from Meyers and Kielbs with everyone jostling for the pignoli and florentines. I went back for two more and found I'd taken the last one of the day. For that reason, and for so many beautiful others, I'll be back. I know I complain a lot about Italian-American foods here. I know I give Portland no end of shit for not leaving vodka sauce well enough alone and turning up the heat on what's supposed to be one of the milder sauces available (though I blame the now-defunct Three Doors Down for that one). I know I shout about mayo on cured-meat sandwiches and creamy salad dressings on pizza. But every so often a place comes along that does some many of the fundamentals right that you're willing to overlook the local nods. I'm never going to order the spicy vodka parm here. But any place that offers a fresh mozzarella caprese, roast pork and broccoli rabe (using that name) with sharp provolone, multiple parms, meats and cheeses by the pound, a case full of pastry, a grocery of wines, gelato, and premade meals, and a gorgeous bar and dining room--unrivaled among Portland's now-burgeoning Italian-American restaurant community--will get my and my displaced East Coast family's business for as long as it chooses to stay.

Need to say right up front, that we ordered food delivered as I was recovering from knee surgery…read more That did make a difference I believe. I got the Italian, and was not disappointed. The roll was just right and the sandwich was built well. Tasty as heck, but the delay in eating it made the bread a little soggy at the ends. My husband had Dolce Vite and he loved it. Savory and sweet. It looks smaller but it's very rich. The pignolia cookie was perfection, chewy and perfect almond flavor. It's the only thing that didn't suffer from travel. The cannoli could be good if eaten when crisp, however, the filling could have been smoother. All in, I'd go again but eat it there.
