This was an unforgettable trip to Vancouver, B.C. My dear friend Aaron and his girlfriend JJ. , his mother and myself wanted to experience the wonders of Vancouver Canada through a day trip. They are Singapore-Chinese, so authentic dim sum was on our minds. Our host, Aaron planned our trip to Pink Pearl. So, he coaxed everyone into the car at 6 am, to make it to lunchtime here. We made it by 11:00 am to downtown Vancouver Hastings street. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The neighborhood is filled with addicts suffering before you get to the restaurant. There is paid lot parking and an attendant to watch over your car. Sad to see the suffering[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The first impression, is how big this place is. Huge banquet rooms and a large screen playing background videos and music.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] But the sheer delight, are the traditional push cart dim sum offerings. We were quickly whisked to a table and hot tea immediately placed on the table. They have efficiency down to a science here. Looks like many long time servers here. They are able to judge your level of hunger and send the food carts in. And, we were surrounded by pushy cart servers. And, being hungry, we went wild with ordering. With a cart and an empty stomach, the delicious odors made us objectively stop from just emptying a plate into our mouths. Some of what we ordered was not from the carts Deep fried calamari Deep fried stuffed crab claw Steamed sticky rice Braised bbq duck with tofu Pan fried clam in spicy dry garlic sauce Braised spareribs with pumpkin Steamed shrimp and spinach dumplings Chinese broccoli Egg custard tart I wish I could describe the variety of delicious flavors that we had, but every dish topped the last one. Really good dim sum! Vancouver has some of the best, and this spot did not disappoint. We came and got seated immediately which was nice. We got the shumai, mushroom dumplings, scallop dumplings, and sticky rice. The shumai were so plump and juicy -- some of the best I've had. We had friends in town so we decided to go there. They still have the traditional pushcart for dim sum. Only the regular popular item is available on the pushcart, the other items can be ordered in the order sheet. I do believe this is one of the few Chinese restaurants that still have dim sum items in push carts. Needless to say, I was tickled pink! The food was very good, particularly the chicken feet (if you liked them), one of the best I ever had. Parking is available in their carpark & street parking. This is one of our favorite restaurants to go to for dim sum. We don't go often cuz we live further away bit if we are in the area we definitely do drop by. They have the best dessert egg yolk bun. Fluffy/ soft pastry with a silly runny inside. Though today we went and this wasn't the case and my wife and I were very disappointed. Not sure if it's just a one off as every other time we've been here or had been consistent. Hopefully it's not going to be like this from now on as this was one of the main reasons we liked coming here as my wife is a huge egg yolk bun connoisseur. All the other dim sum dishes have always been consistently tasty, from the chickens feet so tender to the Sui Mai. The beef balls tasty and bouncy as they should be and the staff are always friendly. My wife and I actually had our wedding banquet here as the parking is easy and the venue quite large. The dinner food is delicious too though with the cost of everything they have gone up as well. Still even so I think this restaurant is a fervent place to go especially since it's been around for many generations. read more

This place is old. But does not mean its good. Ive been here a few times over the years. Just went again for a family event, banquet dinner. Venue is dated, somewhat dirty, and not that comfortable. Service was actually fine, nothing special, nothing bad. Problem is really the food. If theres one word to describe it, it would be "cheap." You can see all the ways they cut corners. lower quality products, less of the pricier ingredients. The food was also not seasoned well, lacked flavour, and just not great. Price is not cheap though. This level of cantonese food can maybe fly in a small town somewhere, but not in a place like Vancouver. read more

I don't like giving such negative reviews but I have to warn anyone who has had decent dim sum at any point in their life- you will be disappointed by coming to Pink Pearl. Their fillings are cheap and bland for dumplings and rice rolls. The egg tarts were flavorless. The baked pork buns were sticky and soggy even though we were told they were fresh. The only reason you should come here is if you are extremely desperate for anything slightly resembling dim sum and don't want to wait at the other dim sum places in Vancouver. But come in with the lowest of expectations if you must visit. I wasn't looking for anything mind blowing when it came to the food either. Just some decent dim sum. But instead we felt scammed leaving here. Also don't be hopeful about the cart service - there weren't enough carts being pushed around so we had to hand someone our menu requests anyway after waiting too long to see a single cart pass by. read more

We arrived around 11:30am for dim sum and were seated right away. You're given two menus, one for ordering and one for the ladies with the carts to mark. Each dish is around $10 so be wary of that when ordering. Initially we decided to start marking down what we wanted, however we quickly noticed that it was much more efficient to just pick up dishes from the carts! Pink Pearl offers an authentic dim sum experience and all the staff were quite friendly in showing us the dishes on the cart so don't be afraid to look or ask for what you want. All the classics were available and done so beautifully well. The siu mai had deliciously large chunks of shrimp and the BBQ pork buns were perfect. The red bean sesame balls are my favorite and Pink Pearl did them justice. Thick and chewy with just the right amount of sweetness! Honestly everything was great and the place quickly filled up by the time we finished around 1pm. My only complaint was really the price :/ we picked up 5 total dishes for 2 people which ended up being $50 before tip. Despite the price tag, I would definitely come again to enjoy more dishes with a larger party to try everything! read more

You can call to reserve a table (recommend if you go during prime time). Service is efficient. Staff always come by to refill teapots and take away dishes. - Pai dan jook (#146) ($14.95) - more on the thin style. - Ha gow (#1) ($9.95) - four large shrimp dumplings. Decent. - Sui mai (#2) ($9.95) - four fat pork dumplings. Always solid. - Feng zhao (#9) ($9.95) - chicken feet is all about the texture. - Pai gwat (#8) ($9.95) - not much black bean flavour in their steamed pork ribs. - Steamed bean curd rolls (#21) ($9.95) - one of my favourite dim sum dishes. Nicely stuffed. - Lo bak go (#45) ($8.95) - daikon cakes were unmemorable. - Ham sui gok (#50) ($9.95) - footballs weren't too greasy. This place has the best chicken feet I've ever had - they were so tender and flavorful! All the dimsum we got was so yummy with giant har gow and siu mai. I would skip the egg tarts, but go for the sesame balls. Some items come out on carts and some items you will need to know the name of or describe to the servers so that they can put in the order for you in the kitchen. We came in around 11 on a Friday morning and there were a few other tables filled. I love that there's plenty of parking available here for some low stress dimsum! The only weird thing was that they were very stingy with their to-go boxes. We had quite a lot of food leftover but they only gave us 2 small boxes, and we had to chase down another server to get 2 more. read more

Our family came here for early dim sum on the weekend. By the time it was prime time for lunch, the place was jammed packed of diners (at least a couple hundred) with lots of chaos happening. They need a better system in delivering the food to diners. A couple of items never arrived. With inflation, you don't get what you paid. Pricey ($5.95 for a bowl of jello). There's a huge selection on their menu but didn't see much of it served. Tip: 1) if you see the dim sum cart go by, grab the item as you might be waiting awhile 2) check you bill based on what you ordered & what was served & stamped on the tab. 3) make sure you ask for all the takeout containers before you pay. We already paid our bill & needed one more container. The server stuck around making sure we would pay him 50 cents. I felt uncomfortable as the majority of people who were waiting in line inside were unmasked & not even 6 ft apart. If you don't mind crowded places with high prices, this is for you. read more

I have much history with Pink Pearl. Pink Pearl has always been one of my go to's. Takes credit card, free parking, speaks english, easy to read menu, clean, the matradees are old school gentleman/ladies. It's a place where your old school grandparents/parents can come in and relax and dim sum (we all know there are those that you kind of have to be a tad dressier for or super snobby host). Also, I love seeing how one table is having beer and another having wine at lunch. Solid items: claypot rice, veggies, thai style tofu, black bean sauced chicken feet, bbq pork pasty "aka cha siu so", Garlic flavored Fried Spring Rolls are all my must order. Improvement: Have an option where I can upgrade my tea selection. read more

So I haven't been here in ages so I thought I'd come here instead of my usual. I got here relatively early so we got a seat quickly. I was pleasantly surprised by the old school dim sum carts and was able to order many of my favourite dishes immediately. We went on a dumpling bonanza ordering shrimp, pork, scallop, spinach and yam. They were all good but it was just lacking a bit of juiciness. We has their steam beef balls which was quite tasty. Also had their spareribs in black bean sauce which was surprisingly good. I had ordered their beef rice rolls (my absolute fave) and it came out at the very end. IT was good but I've had better. We decided to came to Pink Pearl to try their dim sum as they have 1.3K review in Google. Overall, it is delicious. We love the place, spacious, and they still operate with the cart. We ordered so much just for 2 person. Siu Mai, chicken feet in szechuan sauce, custard bun, egg tarts, squid with curry sauce, rice rolls with beef & parsley, rice rolls with chinese doughnuts, Fried Pork dumpling ( Ham Sui Gok ), Sticky Rice. Dim sum is always great, as the room is big and lively, and features a good cross-section of Vancouver diners at lunch time. You have people who've driven in from elsewhere, which you can see with the kinds of fancy cars that are parked in their large parking lot, as well as locals who walk in from the neighbourhood; and by that you've got all ages. At peak times, there might be a wait, but depending on the size of your party, they do their best to accommodate you promptly. The food is good and without the frills and pretense you'll find at other dim sum places in Metro Vancouver that aren't as affordable as Pink Pearl. read more

'Pink Pearl' was the venue chosen for lunch yesterday - my treat, and first of two restaurant meals pre-planned for my lady's birthday weekend. Jean and I enjoy dim sum, and have been missing its tastes for a good while. Daughter had recently done dim sum here (on two occasions), and had raved how much she enjoyed the place, food, and service. This was a first time for us, and when I say that, I can hardly believe it, knowing how much we both enjoy dim sum, and how long this restaurant has been open and operating at this location (= since 1981). We arrived about 10:30 am, were greeted, signed in, shown to a table, and promptly received a pot of hot tea. The restaurant offers food service via 'carts and 'menu'. We decided to go with cart service first, and then add from menu as need be. The first cart arrived at our table almost as soon as we poured our first cups of tea, and had some favourite dishes aboard - we were off to a good start. Over the course of our meal, we ended up ordering more dishes from the carts, plus two dishes from the menu (not offered via cart service at the time). Service was a joy, so friendly and cordial, and very well-paced. The food preparations were as hoped for -- well-prepared, good ("old fashioned", "familiar"), well-liked, Cantonese, Hong Kong style preparations. We enjoyed the works. And the "birthday girl" was totally delighted, and still cannot stop talking about how much she enjoyed the dining experience.
