This review is based on a visit from a couple of years ago, and I definitely did not expect to find tasty poke in a janky, desolate plaza. But! I'm glad I dropped by, as I was pleasantly surprised to get a 5-star 5-scoops-of-poke bowl for a decent price. The elderly gentleman who helped me with my order was so endearing, answering my questions about getting half rice and half salad, flavors of different sauces, etc. AND he washed his hands before putting new gloves on to start my order! I rarely see staff at food establishments physically do this before gloving up or barehandedly touching utensils, so I appreciate the mindfulness towards hygiene haha. Customer service = A+. The shop was very small, with no seating available. Menu is simple, which is a good thing. It has the standard bases, proteins, toppings, and sauces that don't overwhelm you but still give you a solid amount of options. Not a lot of poke places offer yellowtail, so it was nice to see yellowtail here. I just wish that this spot would be closer to me, but I believe the trip here is worth it. Wow! Legit hard to find a good poke spot around. I got the regular bowl for $13.98 out the door. That's cheap compared to all the other places. I've paid up to $17 for a bowl. Best part? You get avocado with no up charge. The quality of the fish is FRESSHHH. This place is located in the small shopping center where the Starbucks is across the high school field. The food was amazing! I ordered a bowl with brown rice. The rice texture was perfect and all of the seafood and spring mix was fresh and delicious. And, unlike other poki places, they toss the seafood options with sauce, making sure the flavors are evenly dispersed in the bowl. Also, the flakes they added on top of the bowl were sublime. I revisited it and can say that this is hands down the BEST poke restaurant I've visited across LA and OC!!!!. The freshness of the fish used in the poke bowls is exceptional, and the sauce combinations are flawless. I was particularly impressed with their sushi rolls; not only are they generously sized, but they are also SUPER delicious! I really like this place!! I have been coming here for over 5 years and rarely do they disappoint. I like my poke "Hawaiian" style and always have them put everything directly onto the rice. For example.. I get the small bowl with brown rice, no crab meat, no cucumber, yes white onion, yes avocado, one scoop of spicy tuna, one scoop of seared albacore and one scoop of yellowtail, topped with extra crispy onions and ginger with a 2 sides of ponzu. The salmon (in the bowl, the sashimi, or the roles) is akin to a Krispy Kreme doughnut, it melts in your mouth. Love love love poke and when I discovered this place was so close to home, I was very excited. However, my first visit was a bad one. I felt the portions were really small and I just wasn't satisfied. I have tried a lot of different poke places and this one did not live up to my standards. However, because it was so close to home, I didn't want to give up just yet. So, I tried again... And 3 more times later I am not impressed with this poke joint! Maybe the first time I was there, they just had an off day. The fish is fresh, they do not charge extra for avocado (a HUGE plus in my book) and it is clean inside. My only complaint is that I wish they had more choices in toppings. I normally get my regular poke bowl, which comes with 3 choices of protein, with the shoyu and hot chili sauce. The guy said that was the most popular and I see why - it is so yummy! The regular size bowl is about $10, which is pretty standard for most poke places. I get my bowl with half greens, half brown rice and typically with the same protein - spicy tuna, seared albacore and salmon. All the fishes are fresh and not fishy! The employees are really nice and friendly. No bullshit and straight to the point which makes the service very fast! The inside is super small so I always take my bowls to go. Parking has always been easy for me but I can see it getting cray cray especially with a gym right next door and a Starbies. I will keep coming back here because it is oh so close to home! Poki Ya is my favorite poke joint in all of Orange County. For me, it really comes down to the sauces and the premium toppings offered and Poki Ya hits the spot for me. The shop itself is VERY small. There are only two four-tops inside and two two-tops outside. Quite frankly, this is honestly just a place where you grab your poke bowl and go. It's a very popular shop and more than likely there will be a line of some sort (but they can usually get though it in about 5 min) but it's certainly worth the wait. One thing I'd like to try at some point are their rolls. I hear some of them are to-die-for, but since their poke bowls are already amazing, it's hard for me to make that drive down here and not get the bowl! Poki Ya has a loyalty card where you get the 11th bowl free, so you know that with great customer service and amazing food I'll certainly come back and redeem my voucher in no time!
