My husband and I went to the Portillo's on Ray Road in Chandler Arizona. They were very rude nonhelpful I asked for the manager. He told me that he was the general manager. Also he was very rude and nonhelpful. I asked him if we could buy a couple of slices of eclair cake. He told me that they don't sell the cakes like that that is only for catering now I also went to the one in Gilbert. The manager was kinda helpful, but I asked for the general manager he told me he couldn't give me that information so I'm hopefully you can get somebody to call me about this situation because I'm originally from Illinois and our people at Portillo's are very helpful and very professional. These people that I have ran into is not very helpful and it was like we were the problem when we walked into the store to spend money so I don't know who else I can talk to you about this so I will be calling corporate, but definitely gave you a zero out of 10 read more

I love Portillo's but now I've been there 2x in a row and had the hot peppers left off my Italian beef sandwich while still paying the additional fee. Last times I asked for dipped and there was no gravy with the sandwich. A big let down given how good the Italian beef sandwich is. I would try another location personally read more

As a long time Portillo diner I have had ok experiences as well as excellent experiences. Today at lunch was a most excellent experience. Keep the beef sandwiches and gravy flowing. I honestly didn't know there was a portillos in the East Valley. I always drove over to Tempe. This location had a huge parking lot, their great decor, and delicious food. I always tend to gravitate towards their sandwiches, which is a no-brainer, but this time, I opted for their spicy chopped salad. It was full of ingredients and was spicy for sure. Luckily, I didn't get hit with the periodic capsaicin sweats. I wasn't sure if it would be big enough for dinner, but it certainly was filling. My backup was to get a sandwich, and fries of the salad weren't enough, but I didn't need to... which was a bad thing as I wanted both! Ha! Would definitely come back, perhaps beat my challenge to have both a salad and sandwich with fries. Game on! See you next time, portillos! read more

Came to this location 3 times so far and I like it! I've dined in and also went through the drive through to order and service has been quick. My kids get their hot dog from the kids menu and one of my favorite is the Italian beef bowl with onion rings. The place is pretty spacious inside and clean. You can also order upfront or on their self order screen to order and it's pretty easy and quick. Food is also pretty food! read more

Just finished dinner and my belly is full! This is my first time at the Gilbert location and it has a lot of space. A lot of antique pieces everywhere. Even pics of Jay Leno, Guy Fieri and a couple more famous guys that has visited a Portillo although not this location. This location had the roundabout walk in and a handicap friendly door. Plenty of parking in its own private space. As you walk in there are some Portillo merch to add to your bill if wanted along with their chocolate cake. For a family of 4 we enjoyed the new Spicy Chicken salad, New chicken Greek Salad with red vinegar garlic dressing, large crinkle fries (which were too salty for my taste), broiled chicken sandwich, an Italian beef sandwich (which I've had better but still a good substitute), sweet and hot peppers ($.99), cheese sauce ($1.29 I think), a small Diet Coke and a small root beer. Finally gave portillo's a try this evening for dinner. Really wanted to give them a higher rating and maybe I will after they work some of the issues a new restaurant is bound to have. First thing the irritated me a little bit was I was not able to use the app to order at the Gilbert location. Just a nuisance. Why can't you be ready to go with online/app ordering the minute you open the restaurant? Super friendly service in the drive through lane tonight I give the young man working the drive-thru five stars. My wife got the Italian beef and sausage sandwich with sweet peppers. The bun was pretty soggy when we got home so that definitely cost at least a half a star. I got the rodeo burger, and I was very pleased with it. It was delicious. The french fries though were a complete disappointment. I think I might have had four french fries that were over an inch long. Mostly little bits and pieces of french fries. Again I'm sure it's just quality control issues that a new restaurant has but they need to be fixed. We had a slice of chocolate cake to celebrate my daughter's birthday and it was perfect. I will definitely be going back to this location, and I hope I can revise my review to give them a higher rating the next time. read more

Mywife and I tried the new spicy chicken salad & the new pecan chicken salad & both were delicious. I personally like the spicy chicken salad better because the chicken had a slight bite to it plus the salad had small pieces of their giardiniera peppers in it (added flavor without being hot). We also split a large order of onion rings - amazing. Nicely breaded and fried to perfection. Overall, an outstanding lunch. Not crowded. 1st time to Portillo's ever! Very impressive large inside with a great patio! They serve beer that's a plus! Order the #4 spicy chicken sandwich, it was delicious but the broiche bun was soggy. Had crinkle fries and delicious onion rings with cheese sauce. I ordered the beef and cheddar toasted croissant. The bun was not cut throughly and it was soggy, yuck! It was mushy! Thank goodness I ordered cheese for my fries because it was missing the cheddar. Don't recommend. Also ordered the chili hot dog and the meat was chewy and that bun was soggy too. Not sure why all the bread is soggy! They are not short staffed for sure, plenty of staff and so busy. There was a wait to stand in line, but it went fast and food was delivered fast too. Man I love this place. The burgers are always awesome and I don't think a Portillo's has ever gotten on of my orders wrong which is impressive considering how busy they can be. I was suspicious of this new location when they started building here, as with the Costco , Walmart and Sam's across the street I figured it would be a traffic nightmare, but they actually chose a really good spot for it, with plenty of parking and easy access. There is a Whataburger next store which helps bleed off some of the traffic. read more

Ok, I don't know if this is a complaint or what, but I had to post so others could know. I ordered a "beef bowl" from the menu, there is no photo or description of what's in it (like the bacon hamburger says under it: mayo, lettuce, tomato, etc) First of all, they replied, "would you like peppers in it?" I said, "sure." I don't really like peppers but I'm not picky, I assumed (incorrectly) they were just asking if that one of many item in the "bowl" would be ok. Well, looking at my receipt, I discovered they charged me $0.75 for the peppers. Lame. They didn't say there is a fee, just "would you like peppers in your beef bowl?" That's stupid. Then, when I received the beef bowl, guess what was in it? Beef. And peppers. That's it. These folks literally sat down to plan a menu, and said, "ok guys, follow me here. What if you did something called a beef bowl, and then we put beef in it?" Everyone stares blankly waiting for the rest of the creation, and then..."what else?" "Nothing! Just beef! It's a "beef bowl". A literal bowl of beef! Oh, and get this, we can ask if they'd like peppers in it, and when they say yes, we upcharge nearly a dollar without mentioning it to them!" The crowd goes wild, brilliant. By the way, the beef bowl could also be considered soup, I think. It had so much brown watery beef fat covering the entire bottom, I'd say at minimum it's half soup, half beef. No, that's accurate. It should be called beef soup. That's my final answer. read more

The burger itself is super delicious!!! The bun was very soft and the meat tasted so delicious. Something like what you would have at a bbq grill out burger. All the ingredients tasted super fresh. The wait time was not long at all. I had a cheeseburger combo the other day which ran about 17$ which to me was a little bit pricy. Today I realized it's better to buy the bacon cheese burger as its own burger than add the hot dog and fry combo. It comes out to 17 for a hot dog, burger and small fry. The hot dog in my opinion was good but not the best hot dog I have ever tasted. I would give 5/10 you could totally get a better hotdog at Costco. Parking is super easy to have, they have an entire parking lot. Inside is really huge and really clean and nice. The fries are way too salty, I wanted to love them since it is crinkle cut but they are just heavenly over seasoned. Next time I'll most likely order fries with no salt then add my own. read more

I've been wanting to try Portillo's, and I'm glad to say they don't disappoint! I got the Italian Beef, Maxwell Street Polish and of course a side of fries! I made the choice to get my Italian Beef dry and the Gravy in the side with just the hot peppers. I will be asking for extra peppers next time, couldn't get enough! But the star for me was the Maxwell Street Polish. It tasted amazing and I loved the onions on top as well. I literally was the only car in the drive thru for 15 minutes and every single thing was cold, fries were cold and not filled up at all, my Italian beef was cold and the cheese was just shredded and not melted at all. Both things of jus had about an oz. Of liquid in each. Plus they almost forgot my cheese sauce that I had to check the bag for. You literally have to try n make the order this bad. As always this Portillo's always comes through for us. We've visited this location 10+ times and never had an issue whether we dine in or use drive thru. Inside is always clean including restrooms. We've had the cheeseburger, bacon burger, hot dog (Chicago style), fries, onion rings, shakes, chocolate cake, strawberry shortcake and they have been great. I still need to get out of my comfort zone and try the beef and peppers, sausage and peppers and their fish sandwich. Give them a try. read more

So I've heard a lot of hype about this restaurant. But never actually been. Yesterday was the grand opening of the Queen Creek location and so we decided to give it a shot. It was huge! I had no idea it would be so big. Apparently it is quite the thing! My husband ordered a chili dog and a hamburger as he is on a diet lol I've got that beef and Italian sausage bowl because I don't need the bread. As it was the grand opening, all of the employees were on their a game. Everybody was very friendly. The place was spotless because it's brand new. Lots of shouting! Which at age 60 was not my favorite. But that's just because I'm an old fart. Lol The food came out lickety-split. Hamburger meat was very tasty (which is a big deal for us). Hot dog had a different flavor... we usually do Hebrew national. So maybe I just don't know what a Chicago dog tastes like. My meat and Italian sausage was very tasty. Very juicy! The french fries were awesome! And the chocolate cake was truly out of this world. I was a little surprised at how much they charged me to add less than 1/4 of a green bell pepper and cheese and there other pepper mix. They were each additions and didn't come with it. I thought that was a little nickel and dimey.... So it cost us $35 for two people to eat. The large soda was $2.85. Which I also thought was pretty expensive. But I think everything has just kind of gone crazy pricewise lately. We will definitely go again. Absolutely worth the experience. And if you like chocolate cake, that is worth the trip. read more

I have been a Portillo's customer for I don't know how long. I just noticed for the last year or so, the food quality has gone down hill, and the prices increased drastically. The worst part is for my dessert, I love, or use to love, the Strawberry Shortcake. Now they skimp on the Strawberries so much, it's mostly whipped cream and dry cake. We gave this location a try for the first time today, and read the reviews before we went, but we did not have any type of negative experience. The experience was the same as the other locations. The first Portillo's hot dog stand known as "The Dog House" opens in 1963 on North Avenue in Villa Park,Chicago. Portillo's has opened in its fourth state: right here in Arizona. The line of people outside the building before the grand opening in Scottsdale exceeds 500 people! The Portillo's in Tempe opened just a few months after Scottsdale. And now the newest Gilbert location. First timers last week and it was absolutely packed just before noon. You order at the counter and are provided a number for pick up. Got a Chili Dog, Side of Chili & a Cheeseburger Combo w/ Giardiniera Sauce on the side (.89 cents extra) Since they were so busy it took an additional 10/12 minutes for our number to be called & that our food was ready. The presentation of my burger was not appealing to the eye. Slopped together & had to take the lettuce away as it was a larger piece & had a wilted leaf texture. Burger flavor was good. Similar to a fast food (BK) charbroiled taste. Patty is about 1/3 pound, so a decent size and price reasonable. Fries were nothing special. Chili Cheese Dog my husband enjoyed but could have put down a few more. LOL Chili was decent and a nice consistency to stand up as a topping. We plan to come back soon as our son had the Big Beef Sandwich, (with peppers) which he said was really tasty. As being from Chicago, it's best to request it "wet" they dip it in gravy; which is suppose to be the most authentic Chicagoan way! Also, on our next visit we want to try some other items on the menu such as the onion rings and selective salads. They look to be doing a wonderful business and their prices are unmatched. You really can't go wrong with anything here, I usually get the Chicago dog with fries and/or onion rings. I just love the crunch when you bite into the hot dog. Came because I knew they sold slices of cake & I got the chocolate cake. My two stars is because the cake had mold on it. I ordered a Chicago dog meal with fries & drink also. The food was nice & fresh & hot. The dessert just messed my whole mood up. I ate my food parked. Then drove way back to Maricopa Arizona. Once I got home & l opened my cake it was a small fuzzy bit of mold. I was so disappointed. Guess I have to Start inspections on all my food purchases before I leave location. Not sure what it is that people find in this place that's so special or maybe I should have ordered something else? It's very gimmick driven. Not impressed by sun glass wearing order takers, just hope they can see well enough to get my order correct. The turn around time was quick, I'll give them this. My fish sandwich was good, not great. The fries are like anyone else's fries (McDonald's still has the best fries out there, but I've heard they soak them in sugar? Sugar makes anything good, right?) Our fries are really good! Then why did I toss them? Like anyone else's fries. Money down the drain. Wondering if I chose the wrong things to order? Had the Strawberry shortcake, wondering where the short cake was? It' was white cake. Then slice. Strawberries whip cream. Not impressed. But if you are in the restaurant business (which I was at one time and learned from the best. Lawery's!) if you are going to serve up basic always serve up basic. If you serve up great, then the food goes downhill then people will notice. So I guess basic is basic, not great. I noticed a lot of younger folks like hanging out there. I guess they'll keep them in business. All and all just basic. My meal was nothing I would repeat again, I can get basic any where, probably cheaper. The staff were great! Good group of kids! Kudos on hiring great kids. Very nice bunch! Enthusiastic!
