I have been here twice and received poor service both times. This review is about my second experience. I decided to give them another chance in case the first was a fluke. On the tables there is a wooden block that you need to flip to get full service. After flipping it, we waited for a good 20 minutes with waiters and waitresses passing us by (I made eye contact with a couple waiters) but nobody came by our table. I had to ask them for a menu as they were cleaning the table next to us. We then waited for another 10 minutes and decided we had waited long enough and decided to leave. read more

Terrible service. It was very slow. My party was just waiting around for someone to take our order, but after a very long time, no one came.

The stars are for the food and the bartenders. The table service is abominable and gets zero stars. Dirty tables, slow service, and the overall impression that they just took a bunch of kids from behind the sandwich counter and cash register and threw them out on the floor. My boyfriend actually considered dropping his empty beer glass on the ground in order to finally get a refill. And it's not like two "servers" didn't look right at us and the empty glass and walk away. Incredible. Serving actually takes SOME skill, sorry. Whole Foods should stick to the grocery thing and counter service. read more

Travis, the bartender, only served women at the bar with basic hospitality. We were completely ignored and had to ask for basic things like a menu and water. Ordered fish n chips, which were tasty, crispy and not terribly oily. My friend had a burger which she said was good. She ordered medium and it came medium rare. Both were pretty good. I'd give it a 4 stars. Went back today to get fish n chips again. Thought it was oily and batter dark and not that fresh tasting, like they used old oil. Disappointed this time. Probably won't order fish n chips from there again. Their fries are underwhelming. read more

Went here for a happy hour and was pleasantly surprised! It was a wednesday and wines were $2 off-including sparkling and mimosas. Super cheap outing and good atmosphere. Haven't tried the food but it sounded really good & there was plenty of vegan options which was good to see. I would recommend checking out pukas. read more

I've visited Puka's twice in the same week because I couldn't get enough of their delicious truffle fries. During my first visit I ordered the rainbow roll, the cheese platter, & steak with truffle fries. Everything tasted great except our steak was a little overcooked. On my second visit I decided to do a take out order which was hot & ready quick. read more

Mediocre/poor service with good food and daily specials... A friend and I sat down during a busy Friday, July 3 holiday lunch and it took over 10 minutes to have our counter top cleared of dirty glasses and dishes even though there were several open seats. I ordered a daily special (the waiter's suggestion) which included a glass of beer and lunch plate (fish and chips). The food and beer were great but when I received the bill I was charged for the entrée and beer instead of the special. The waiter caught the error after my credit card was charged and a manager was not on duty to correct the bill. Left Puka overpaying for my lunch. :( read more

First time I went everything was great including the fish and chips, although returning a second time the fish and chips which I was craving was terrible with a worse aftertaste. Both my son and I were disappointed and the waiter gave me some story of a different recipe and cook etc....weak story. Service is always friendly and attentive. Here's the deal, I LOVE the Kahala blt with added avocado, and the truffle fries. I've tried the cheese board and it was good, but nothing extraordinary. Great beer choices.. But the service.. Omg. It's like pulling teeth to get them to have any personality whatsoever. I've been a few times (that darn blt makes me come back) and today the guy server was actually personable, but the girls.. I understand a lot of randoms come in here and sit to eat the food they bought in whole foods (that's another thing they need to figure out!) but when I'm sitting there with menu in hand looking around for a server for about five mins (after already waiting at least 5) look alive, obviously we want to order. Today's server redeem this place, and that dang blt.. Seriously you need to try it. read more

Don't come here to eat when you're hungry; we waited 25 minutes for a classic burger/fries and three tiny tacos. Do come if you have a craving for overly salty food; the tiny tacos were ok, but yikes! on the burger/fries. Good try and not tops. Maybe they will give the customers what they want. Good battered fish and salad. But no tartar sauce or relish only mayo or malt vinegar. They have a fair menu and lots of beer but if it gets foodies like the Counter they will not sell much booze. 12 beers on tap and a dozen more chilled. This was my first time eating at Puka's. There were four of us. We ordered our food, and then sat at a table, outside, and waited for the food to be delivered. It was extremely busy, as all the outside tables were occupied. It took about 20 minutes for the food to be served, and only three of the four ordered dishes were brought out. The waitress said that she would be back with the last dish, but she never came back. I went into the restaurant to ask about my dish. A waitress said that she saw my order in the window, but it wasn't there anymore. She proceeded to ask other workers, if they had seen, or taken, the dish. The waitress went round and round about how the dish had been there, and kept asking, if anyone had taken it. Finally, a cook had the common sense to ask, if another one needed to be cooked. The waitress did not answer, but the cook started preparing the dish. When the waitress brought the dish to our table, she didn't say a word, didn't apologize for the mistake. In fact, she acted like she couldn't have cared less. I would have rated this experience with only one star, but for the manager, who apologized and confirmed that the amount of time it took for me to get my dish, 50 minutes, was unacceptable. He also compensated us with a gift card. My husband said that his burger was delicious, but I thought that the food was so-so. The cauliflower nachos were tasteless. The coating on the cauliflower was good, but the cauliflower was over-cooked and mushy. The taro burger had the texture of taro, which I loved, but overall, the dish was underwhelming - a taro patty, mayonnaise, wilted lettuce, and a slice of tomato. This young lady should get a raise, management position, or a great big thank you. I have a lot of people who travel to Honolulu often, I will be referring all of my friends and family to your establishment because if your awesome staff. I would have given you 5 stars but, I noticed that the men cooking or preparing food in the front were not practicing food safety. They were wiping their sweat with the same glove and then making people's food. When they went in the other kitchen they touched doors etc with their gloves and then prepared people's food. That is something I would have a conversation to them about food safety as a reminder that people are watching you prepare the food in the front behind the bar. Went to Puka's which is a bar/restaurant attached to Wholefoods in Kahala. It's a very casual atmosphere and the service was good. Food and drinks were actually very reasonable. There are these "flight special" wines that have 4 different glasses of wine that you can choose from. And the glasses were pretty decent sized for only $10. The wines were very good too. A friend and I had 5 appetizers and they were mostly $5 ea. The two things I would change though are to have separate chairs vs. long tables and a few specialty drinks as they primarily have beer and wine. I would definitely go back though! read more

I unfortunately am giving a one star strictly based on the service here. It was our first time here and we wanted to sit outside. We waited by the area that says "order here if you want to eat outside" for about 10 minutes before we walked inside to get help. We saw that it seemed busy inside and maybe short staffed and we both work in high volumed restaurants so we were more than patient. UNTIL a waitress walked right by us to go help other people that stood in line outside so we walked back and stood in line to order. I had the fish and chips and he had the pub burger with a big wave and a deschutes obsidian stout which were delicious. She seemed persistent for us to keep a tab open but didn't ask for any form of payment. We went and sat down, our beers came quickly by a different waiter at which point we asked for waters (that never came!). The same waitress who took our order brought our food about 15 minutes after the beers and then brought back utensils. After that we didn't see her. We almost forgot that we even had a tab open. No one approached us for 45 minutes at that point we decided to go inside and try to close out so we could leave. It is a good thing we aren't the type of people to walk out on tabs it would've been so easy. But inside a bar tender finally acknowledged us and we told her we wanted to close out and handed her our slip. She gave us a smug look, snatched the receipt from my bfs hand, he then handed her cash and we left. read more

The food was alright and the waiters/waitresses are very young and untrained! I was waiting 20 minutes and the workers were all talking to one another -I had to actually walk up to them, interrupt their talking and ask for a menu. I love it here. Just sit outside in the cool breeze, have a glass of wine or two... Fish and Chips are the best, and it's on specials Friday's, so I highly recommend coming here then. Upscale restaurant serving health-conscious food. I had the beet salad, friend had the same. Though the taste and presentation were good, It was overpriced and the portion was small. When you walk in the restaurant it's not clear how to order and who to pay at the end of the meal. There were only two salad choices, which was not enough, especially since Whole Foods is supposed to have healthy foods and salads are healthy right? we were back in honolulu.. where i was born... for our 30th anniversary.. all the way from tampa, florida... we found pukas by accident.. the wife use to work at the kalaha hilton years ago in sales.. anyway... it was the greatest.. the food, beer, service and nightly specials were super.. we ate there at least 4 nights while we were there.. the whole hawaii feel.. the lanai.. the people were what made us regulars... if you're in honolulu and want a meal with great atmosphere.. food.. beer.. and people.. don't miss puka's... they're the best!!! read more
