We called to see if German Chocolate cake was available for the afternoon on the way into town about three hours out. We were going to surprise our friend with an early birthday cake. They didn't have any but provided they were able to get one made. Order was taken with payment over the phone. We arrived and cake was ready with the surprise note. We took the cake to which we tried hours later. German chocolate was perhaps one of the best if not the absolute best. My friend loved the freshly made cake. Healthy rich chocolate, hearty amount of nuts and coconut. We all thought the cake was well crafted. We saved some for later because well there was only five of us eating a eight person cake. The cake was not nearly enjoyable. Definitely aged to be more rich. Still good just way much sugar. Good: freshly made cake and quick service. Bad: wish the cake held better for an extra day. I personally love the consistently unique designs of their cookies!! There's always a new design to represent a holiday. For April Fool's they had designed a cup cake to look like mash potatoes (see my picture of this foolish delight!) I personally love their lattes and the staff is friendly. Tables are a bit small but large enough to place your lap top and still have some room for your coffee. It can get fairly busy so there are times when you might not find a table available inside. However, there is seating outside and normally tables are available. If you plan to have a group meeting and have multiple laptops open you may have some limited space issues. We came in to check out their pastries and they have some really cute cookie designs! I had a carrot cupcake and my friend got the chocolate peanut butter cupcake. They were both delicious! The carrot cupcake had seeds and a really nice texture, probably my favorite carrot anything ever. The chocolate cupcake meanwhile was tasty and moist, the top was both chocolate and peanut butter and while it was a little too much for me, was the perfect amount for my friend. This business also has sandwiches, coffee, and pies (to order), as well as photographs hung up for sale. Our Airbnb hosts recommended this bakery. We checked it out on Saturday morning and it was packed. The line moved quickly. Despite the packed place and it being late morning there were plenty of options. It didn't seem like they were out of anything. The croissants were absolutely amazing. I got a croissant filled with turkey and cheese. It was like a breakfast sandwich on steroids. I would probably eat it every day if I lived in Austin. The cinnamon rolls looked fantastic. I went with the iced cinnamon roll. In retrospect I would go with the non iced next time. It looked nice and soft and flaky. I love me some quacks. No trip to Austin is complete without a stop here. My absolute favorite is the coconut cream pie. Its got huge shreds of coconut and topped with a heaping serving of whipped cream. The coconut cream also has a nice light flavor. Its not very heavy like most cream pies. The cupcakes are hit or miss, I've had moist ones, and some are probably not as fresh. The snickerdoodle cookie was pretty good. I love this place! I cannot tell you how much. I took classes at UT this summer and while everyone was out on the town doing "boring summer stuff", I went to Quack's to do my homework and it made it all worth it. Someday, I am going to open a coffee shop bakery and Quack's is the first place I have found that makes me think "Now THAT is what I want my business to look like." They have great local coffee that they serve in actual mugs that are the perfect shape for your hands. Every person who works there has knock-your-socks-off customer service and is always smiling and happy to help. I have tried their chocolate brownie (the one without the icing) and my taste buds danced on my tongue. That is love right there. Soooo delicious I couldn't stand it. Oh my goodness, if you don't get the salted caramel macaroon, then I have written this review in vain. It, alone, is worth the trip to Quacks! The chocolate almond croissant is pretty indulgent with a cup of coffee in the morning, but I mean that in the best way possible. My husband tried the tiramisu cake, and while tasty and kinda reminiscent of tiramisu, not our favorite (although we have sought out tiramisu far and wide, and few pass our scrutinous test)! The staff is helpful and kind. The people watching is fantastic. The baked goods are beautiful and fun to peruse. The art is quirky (read: sometimes bad) and the space is inviting. When I got there, they were sold out and didn't have any other vegan option available. So I walked out empty handed after wasting 40 minutes of my day. Disappointed to say the least.
