*2.5 stars* Unfortunately had to update my review after coming here again. We came on a Sunday for an earlier dinner and let me start by saying the service left a lot to be desired for. It's still probably your best shot for a sit down meal in the area without reservations, because it was petty empty when we came in around 5:30pm, but our food still took a while to arrive. All 3 of our entrees ended up being very mediocre and expensive. I had the salmon salad, but also tried my sisters' sushi rolls and everything was okay at best and not very filling. We ended up still being somewhat hungry when we left. Our waitress was also barely around and though polite, not very friendly and attentive. My sisters even ended up making a comment that it was their least favorite meal their weekend visiting (though the most expensive). Very disappointing experience especially after having a pleasant one the first time. Though I would still recommend coming here for happy hour deals, I can't say I would recommend coming here any other time. read more

Service: 4/5 Food: 3/5 Ambiance: casual, but you can still go for date night They offer good birthday perks: $20 off on your birthday + $10 off on your half birthday. Being in the theater district means that it's popular amongst tourists + a little overpriced. Also, I think the manager and some of the workers speak cantonese. The atmosphere seemed like a little a fast food place but large with plenty of seating. Not very crowded at all. The lobster spring rolls seems too soft like it wasn't fully cooked. It may've been prepared in advance or sitting around since it wasn't fresh and had no taste of lobster. The Calamari was extra crispy but more of like onion rings so you didn't really taste the calamari although they were an interesting change. Both pokes were good although I would've preferred more fish. Not much sauce but I actually prefer that rather than the other extreme. The signature rolls were good but all seemed to have too much cream cheese or peppers. Not sure why that is popular but i prefer to taste the fish rather than mask it. The service was fine and attentive but occasionally forgot when we asked to a fork, more water, and extra napkins. Good location but better options around the area. read more

My family and I decided to have dinner at RA Sushi in midtown Manhattan a few weeks ago. It turned out to be a frustrating and disappointing experience . I have not seen a restaurant with customers on coats and jackets as the place was too darn cold. Top it with cold food, stiff chicken and sushi that's not fresh and falls apart. What Happened??? Are you all trying to live up to the bad reviews that you have been getting recently? Unbelievable. read more

Came here ravenous after my initial lunch plans fell thru. RA was close by and has seating available. They were planning for a party of 60 while I was seated so not sure if this played a factor in the service. I was dining solo but people seated after me were seen before I was.... did I mention I was ravenous? I ordered a lychee martini and the hibachi filet and shrimp combo which came with sauteed veggies and their signature fried rice. I requested the filet medium rare. My drink came out almost immediately which I had to sip slowly. I didn't want to drink too quickly on an empty stomach. It was great! The large party came in about 15 mins after I did. They were on their apps and I still hadn't received my meal. I came in at 120. My meal came at 158. The filet was diced up and over cooked. At this point I was too hungry and needed to make my way to the theater. The veggies were delicious- would have loved more. The shrimp were perfectly cooked. The seemed a bit dry, i think perhaps made with brown rice. My total for a drink and a meal came to $75 which was a little steep but I came hungry and left fed. It served its purpose. read more

Came here once and they had me in and out in twenty minutes with a delicious meal. I told everyone at the office about it. Returned a year later and it was one of those scenarios where it was clear that the waitstaff was operating more on "tourist time" than "we need to get back to work" time. read more

Sunny the bartender at RA Sushi is wonderful and always waits to place our order right at Happy Hour start. Eventhough we live in LA, RA Sushi and its staff has always made us feel like we are locals. Christopher the manager is one of upbeat and a pro at good morale. He makes his staff have a good day and it is fun to watch. The food is high in quality and they have great deals on Sake and Sake Bombs and Sauvignon Blanc. Go here before your broadway shows or even for a mid-day relax and chill. read more

We came here right after seeing a Broadway show (Hell's Kitchen!) so maybe we were just really hungry, but the food did satisfy our hunger! We got the pork gyozas, rackin fried rice with crab, and crunchy shrimp tempura roll. The rackin fried rice was a bit salty but I loved that they had an option to have crab. I loved the crunchy shrimp tempura roll and the pork gyozas. They definitely satisfied my food cravings after the show! The servers were really nice and were very attentive on refilling our water glasses and checking in on us to see if we needed anything else. read more

I got a $20 birthday gift certificate from them and decided to check them out. I used to go to the UwS location but sadly saw it closed and made the trip to Times Square. The service was great; everyone was so friendly and accommodating. To use the certificate, you had to come on a weekday (Monday-Thursday) for dine in service only. We went at 7:30 on a Wednesday and the restaurant was about 1/4 full. It's a large space, huge bar and lots of tables. I'm giving them three stars because I wasn't a fan of the sushi. We ordered the sushi platter for two $80 which came with 4 rolls and 12 other sushi pieces. It was enough for two people but the quality of the sushi didn't impress me. I didn't like their version of spicy Mayo, specifically in the spicy tuna roll. Even with another free $20, I don't think I will be returning. The location for locals is not fun to get to and the quality of the sushi wasn't great! There are plenty of other great sushi spots much closer to me. read more

I had a great experience at RA Sushi. The service and rolls were phenomenal! To be completely honest, I have/would only come here for Happy Hour or if I had one of their $20 gift certificates (you get them for your half birthday and your birthday!) because it's just so expensive. Don't get me wrong, the fish is really fresh and theirs rolls are unique and delicious, but there are also other places that have just use good rolls and they're not nearly as much. However, if you have the money then by means! Like I said, it's a great place with such delicious food and I wish I had the budget to come anytime. On that note, highly highly recommend signing up for their mailing list ($10 off bill) so you can get the $20 half birthday and birthday certificates! They have strict guidelines (e.g. you have to print it, can't use during hh) but it's literally $20 with no minimum or anything!! The Happy Hour specials are great and it's Monday-Saturday from 3-6pm and includes snacks, rolls and drink specials!! Highly recommend- inside was clean and cute, staff was great and overall experience was excellent. read more

This place was honestly just okay. We came here because if you sign up on the website and add your birthday they send you a $20 gift card to use Monday-Thursday. We ordered the sushi for 2 platter which came with spicy tuna yellowtail salmon tobiko and a few other pieces I cannot remember. The sushi itself was good but nothing great which is why I gave this place 3 stars. The spicy mayo was spicy but also tasted like they put a lot of citrus in there which gave it an odd taste compared to other spicy mayos I've tried. The service I will say was excellent. They were quick and checked in with us and always had a smile. It's because of the service I would return but I would try an entree that wasn't sushi. I would also wait until I got another birthday coupon as this place is expensive given it's location in Times Square. The restaurant itself is decently sized and played modern music, stuff you would hear on Z100 if you're a local New Yorker. read more

I've been wanting to check this place out. RA Sushi Sushi was the former Haru, and they have the same setup as Haru. Service was busy! I reviewed what others have written about their experiences, and based on what I've read, the Chilean Sea bass was the way to go. The ambiance was buzzing and noisy because it was happy hour and prime time dinner. The Chilean Sea bass was very good. The fish was grilled perfectly, and the asparagus had the perfect bite. I loved the pumpkin puree. I decided not to get intoxicated, so I got the passion fruit mojito mocktail. I would definitely return for happy hour. read more

Update from feb 18 2026 review- we gave this place another chance after another manager reached out to us. Better than last time for sure. Thanks to Annie and Chris for going the extra mile. There seems to still be kinks in terms of accuracy of food items ordered and what actually arrived even though the to go order was repeated twice on the phone. Not sure why the kitchen doesn't seem to be getting the memo on this issue, but what did arrive was better quality than before. Some items were missing or replaced compared to menu description. We hope they take this feedback into account - but the effort was appreciated. read more

Wednesday night out for a Broadway show, but first: Sushi! We were all set with our tickets to go see Harry Potter & the Cursed Child at the Lyric Theater on 43rd St and RA Sushi is perfectly located directly across the street. A 5:30pm reservation is also perfect for the 7pm showtime. My sister even had a 1/2 price parking pass for the Icon parking garage next door, so everything was within less than 1/2 block walk. Seated in the back, we started with appetizers and then entrees. Everything came out at a fast clip and we were finished in plenty of time for the 7 o'clock curtain. Gyoza, Agedashi Tofu and a Gramercy Roll started us off. All were very tasty. My 2 sister's entrees: Chilean Sea Bass and Teriyaki Chicken, both perfectly grilled and seasoned. My wife's Chirashi Poké Bowl looked awesome, but she polished it off and I didn't see a piece of fish, just got a single edamame bean. But my Hibachi Filet Mignon and Scallops was perfect also, with grilled tender pieces of beef tenderloin and medium sized sea scallops accompanied by grilled mushrooms and vegetables and a mound of fried rice. RA is a great place for pre-show dinner and being in the heart of the theater district, the convenience just can't be beat. My only regret was that we didn't get here even earlier to enjoy the Happy Hour specials. read more

Shoutout to servers, but poor management. Didn't accept a printed certificate (gave it in before I ordered and management said ok) because bar code wouldn't scan. So ended up paying full price on regular menu with a 'small' 17% discount. Also took away my takeout order that I placed for no reason. Like I couldn't afford it?? Also promised drinks (just tea and one soda) would be taken off the bill, but bill still came with charges. By that point I'm done and wanted out. Just want to emphasize my servers were wonderful, but management need to learn how to honor a certificate and maybe they could speak with the corporate about it and not it's on me to do so. read more

By far, the most phenomenal service and freshly made sushi we've ever had! First things first - CUSTOMER SERVICE 1000000000% - Tiara and (Chris - the manager) were exceptional. Tiara, was running the bar area like an absolute CHAMP! Come to find out, she'd only been there 2 weeks! I cannot describe how amazing her personality is! And then we met the manager Chris - who is doing a phenomenal job running the place! Absolutely wonderful atmosphere, the lighting is perfect for a cozy ambiance & the noise level was moderate. Now let's talk sushi - JUST ORDER IT. You will not be disappointed in this experience. After a week in New York (coming from Arkansas) - it was the absolute BEST food/drink experience we had all week. We can't recommend RA Sushi Bar enough! read more

Decided to stop by after a long work week. The food was AMAZING. I had the Spicy Salmon Jalapeño roll, glass of Pepsi with a sliced lemon. The salmon tasted nice and fresh with pieces of fresh jalapeños for a lil kick. Customer Service was friendly and and helpful. It was a little busy however, there was not a long wait to be seated nor to get served. The ambience was very nice for a date night, family night or a chill night. I think this will be my Sushi spot now..I REALLY enjoyed. Try 'em! read more

The edamame was standard but served as a nice starter. For my main rolls, I chose the salmon avocado and the yellowtail scallion. Both were very fresh and definitely worth ordering again. The salmon avocado roll had a nice touch of sesame seeds on the rice, while the yellowtail scallion was prepared with the seaweed on the outside. My boyfriend's sushi entree looked excellent, so I am considering that or the sushi-sashimi combo for my next visit. The entrees provide a substantial amount of food, and I especially appreciate that they allow you to choose which roll comes with your meal.

There were around seven employees behind the counter, yet somehow everything moved at a glacial pace. One person took orders while a manager mostly stood around directing people to do tiny, unnecessary tasks instead of actually helping move the line. There was even someone dedicated to adding individual toppings to slices, painstakingly placing basil leaves one at a time, while dozens of customers waited. At one point, she even dropped a stack of pizza boxes, adding to the chaos. Meanwhile, slices would be ready but they'd call customers one at a time instead of handing out multiple completed orders. The result was a line of only five people turning into a backlog of roughly 25 people waiting for food. I've never seen a place with so many employees accomplish so little. If your business model is selling ready-made pizza by the slice, customers should not be waiting half an hour. The food wasn't bad, but the operational inefficiency was so frustrating that I wouldn't come back.

Stopped by RA Sushi while visiting New York City, and it ended up being one of our favorite dining experiences of the trip. We took advantage of their happy hour specials, which were an incredible value, especially for being right in the heart of Times Square. The drinks were fantastic, and the cocktail menu had plenty of great options to choose from. The food was equally impressive. Everything we ordered was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully prepared. The staff was extremely friendly, welcoming, and knowledgeable about the menu. They were happy to answer questions and offer recommendations, which made the experience even better. I often get asked to provide recommendations for tourists visiting New York City. And I always hesitate to just spit out my highest ranked place. Without knowing further details - like where they're staying, what their spending tolerance is, how adventurous they are for example - it's basically a guessing game. That said, one thing I can say with virtual certainty is that most tourists will find their way to the times square/midtown area. In that event, Haru Times Square is a worthy option, despite the fact that it currently resides underneath scaffolding (like most places in Manhattan). Though I went for lunch, I suspect that dinner is as efficient given that tourists/business folks make up most of their clientele (and likely want to be quick). I went there with my family yesterday for lunch. We order Sushi, Dragon roll and Lunch box Salmon Teriyaki. We waited for the food for like more than half an hour. The server never came to the table or passed by. We had to ask another server what was going on with our food. Then our server showed up and told me that the salmon needed to be cooked for 15 minutes. I understand that we had to wait for the food to be cooked but we' ve been waiting for more than 15 minutes. To be honest the food here is average. Just OK. The place look nice and the price quite expensive. This is not the first time that I ate here. But this time we got a very bad service. read more

The best sushi place among the 20 Japanese restaurants I went to during my 4 week NYC stay. The price was reasonable, despite being in the middle of Time Square, service was superb, food was fresh and tasty (the good way), and the dessert was refreshing. I don't want to compare with names, but this place is 10 times better than certain other super trendy and expensive Japanese restaurant I had been to during the same trip, at 1/3 the price. It's not a trendy place, so if you want to impress someone or have a club atmosphere, go elsewhere. But the good is good and that's all I care about. read more

Haru is your chain sushi place that churns out solidly good sushi with decent creativity with their rolls, but this is not a place for the sushi purists. They have good apps like the crispy duck and shrimp and mushroom shumai, a bunch of good specialty cocktails ($13 a pop) and solid rolls. Haru is a better spot for a group dinner rather than a date, but nonetheless, an above average last minute place when you're in the mood for sushi. They have the best sushi in town! I go there with my girlfriends for the lunch break! It is always crowded for lunch, however, they accept reservations. So, we never wait more than 5-10 minutes. They have very quick service and the food is delicious. I'll keep going ;-) read more

Koi markets itself as "upscale Japanese cuisine" offering "unique and mouth-watering interpretations of Japanese cuisine." What it actually serves is a Westernized, California-inflected approximation of Japanese aesthetics, the kind of menu that sprinkles "yuzu," "miso," and "shiso" across its pages like set dressing. A diner from Tokyo would not recognize this food as Japanese by any meaningful standard. Koi is a scene restaurant that has been coasting on its 2005 Los Angeles celebrity-hotspot origins ever since. The food is incidental. The atmosphere is the product. We are a family of four who ordered zero alcohol. The bill was $300 before tip, $350 after. Here is exactly what we got, priced to the dollar: Edamame ($8): over-salted, which is a remarkable failure for one of the simplest preparations in any kitchen. Kobe-Style Potstickers ($29): four tiny, over-fried dumplings with barely any filling inside -- over $7 each for something a neighborhood dim sum cart would be embarrassed to serve. Roasted Duck Breast ($38): overcooked, dry, and stringy, glazed with something that tasted indistinguishable from grocery store orange marmalade. This is not refined Japanese cuisine. It is a dish assembled with no understanding of what makes duck worth ordering. Organic Chicken Breast ($39): bone dry, entirely flavorless, accompanied by a soba noodle stir-fry that contributed nothing. Nearly $40 for chicken with zero technique applied to it is not a culinary interpretation. It is an insult. Pan Seared Salmon ($43): carelessly plated with vegetables and spinach crushed together beneath the fish, topped with a sauce so aggressively tangy it overwhelmed everything on the plate. Lobster Tail ($58): nearly sixty dollars for lobster dried out completely by a yuzu panko crust that had no culinary justification for being on the dish. In Japan, lobster is treated with restraint and precision. At Koi, it is buried under breadcrumbs. Two Hibiscus Virgin Mojitos ($13 each): fine, but easily replicable at home for under $5 each. Two bottles of still mineral water at $12 each -- $24 for water you can buy at any deli on the block for under $3. Charging $12 a bottle for still water at a restaurant where nothing on the plate justifies its price is not hospitality. It is extraction. Our actual server was one of the evening's few bright spots. She was attentive, professional, and personable. The problem was her support staff, who treated our table like a maintenance project. They swooped in every three minutes to refill water glasses we had barely touched and, most egregiously, physically reached across our plates while we were actively eating to clear items that were not ready to be cleared. That is not attentive service. It is intrusive, poorly trained, and completely at odds with the prices being charged. Then there is the noise. It was so loud inside that we could not hold a conversation at the table for the entire meal. We also noticed that most surrounding tables were drinking cocktails and grazing on appetizers without progressing to entrees. That tells you everything. The restaurant has found its audience, and that audience is not there for the food. Midtown Manhattan is home to some of the finest restaurants in the world, many of them within walking distance of Bryant Park. Koi is not among them. At $350 all-in for four people with zero alcohol, this is one of the worst value propositions in a neighborhood overflowing with genuinely exceptional alternatives. Avoid it entirely.
