I completely enjoyed the neighborhood feel to this restaurant. I also enjoyed the fact that the back area is also used and it was warm and toasty while it was cold outside. The walls are filled wit art and there are a nice amount of tables (duos and family sized). I ordered coffee and shrimp and grits and I enjoyed both. My friend had pancakes and they were ok, nothing extravagant and not something I'd label 'best in ATL'. All in all, I would go back. The Sausage is another go-to, and the Buttermilk Biscuits are greatttt. They are very large, and I usually have to take it to go but they are moist and fluffy and be sure to get the blackberry jam! I'm giving them three stars because the food is amazing, but for the service, it's a no for me. It's a thing I like to call COVIDIOCY.... When a business used the pandemic as an excuse to treat customers like they are a burden. This place has taken that to an new level. Walked in (with my N95 mask strapped firmly to my mug) and was immediately fussed at because, "we're only taking one inside at a time." Sorry, I didn't know. Maybe a sign on the door would be nice? Order was not ready, so I was told to wait outside in the cold (the inside is large enough we could have waited inside socially distanced and masked, but no). Now I've been shivering out here for 20 minutes and my order, placed over an hour ago is still not ready. Two pancakes and a bacon egg and cheese biscuit ain't that complex. Of course, 20 minutes isn't the end of the world, but they could've been more friendly and I wouldn't be out here annoyed and writing this review. I'm not alone. There were about 12 other people out here bitching about having to wait a ridiculous amount of time in the cold for their food. They also have an outdoor "patio" (tables inside a fence sitting in the parking lot), and you can sit there and eat, but there is no service to those tables. Why bother? There are places that have reopened and have gotten it right. ECCO midtown has implemented strict COVID precautions, but they have increased their level of service so the experience is even better than it was before in my opinion. As a result, I ate there weekly. Ria's ain't making any fans right now. What would have solved this for me would have been a simple, "I'm so sorry. We're running a little behind. Can I get you a hot coffee to keep you warm while you wait?" Sometimes, a smile and a cup of coffee is all it takes. I know we're all stressed and businesses are doing what they can to make it, but how you handle a crisis can dramatically affect how clients perceive you and whether they will come back when things are back to normal. I suggested Ria's as a Sunday brunch for my wife, 1year old, my cousin, his girlfriend, and her daughter as they were visiting from Virginia. I used to love Ria's back in the day when I lived in Atlanta from 2002-2009. I had not been since our return last year. It was just as wonderful as I remembered even as a Plant Based Vegan! Very hipster restaurant located in Grant Park. The restaurant is small so wait times can get to be pretty long and parking can sometimes be difficult to find. On my last visit I ordered the Early Bird Special with a side of pancakes. The pancakes were pretty big and delicious, but I was kind of disappointed that they charge for a little extra syrup. I also enjoyed the skillet potatoes as well, but the eggs and grits were mediocre and my eggs were a little cold. And their walls might have artsy decorations or frames! It took us 10 minutes before someone came to take our order. She did mention, the moment when we sat down at our table, that she "will be right back" with us, but I guess something kept her from coming to us. Below are what I had- Buttermilk Pancake: very fluffy and satisfying texture. Honestly the best pancake I've ever had. They have $5/$7 options, and the difference is whether it's two pancakes or three. Take use of their blueberries jam and pancake syrup. I thought their syrup was a little sour or bitter.... unique taste. I didn't like it too much. Homemade sausage patty: looks small, size of a woman's palm. But it's very well made. Recommended. Other than the time we waited to order, the server was timely. They had a "one check per table" policy which was not my fave, got us thinking "how hard is it?" Before they added the patio, Ria's was tiny and it still doesn't feel large enough. In the decade I've gone there, the place has steadily improved, though it was among the best breakfast/lunch places in town to begin with. If you can avoid showing up there on the weekend, instead, say, walking in there at an odd hour on a Tuesday, you might be able to grab a table without waiting, as we did the other day. For years, I always ordered the Tempeh Reuben, the yummiest vegetarian reuben I have ever had. But the menu has expanded and I am now partial to the Avocado Sub. It may not sound like much, but the pickled peppers, hummus, avocado and hoagie roll add up to a near perfect sandwich, which I have attempted to duplicate at home. Only come for the pancakes. Those were good. Brisket Breakfast tastes like freezer burn so I assume this is made ahead and frozen. If not, I am not sure what the icky after taste is. We also ordered the Chicken BLT with sautéed kale. It was more like a lettuce sandwich with a speck of mayo, a thin piece of chicken that was way out of proportion to the crusty bread. The food was actually very good but there were a few minor irritations that I found annoying. First, no ice tea! This is the south.....Atlanta....and no ice tea. We gave up and came back on Tuesday morning when it was MUCH quieter, but still several tables of customers. Prices seem pretty reasonable. Biscuits and gravy: $6. Omelette of the day: $12. I was a bit underwhelmed from there. The grits weren't to our liking. The omelette lacked in flavor. I did enjoy the pancakes, the biscuits, and the coffee. Came here at 9:15 on a Sunday morning and there was no wait. We were seated in the patio area and our waiter quickly came to get our drink order. We both had coffee. I ordered pancakes and cheese grits and my husband had the biscuits and gravy and grits. The pancakes were okay- certainly not the best I've ever had but they were good. Josh was very nice and friendly, however Julie with the blond hair and Corduroy pants appeared very aloof and like she did not want to be there, not friendly at all. Ordered pancakes and she said it was extra because maple syrup was "expensive". I think a later shift instead of morning may be better for Julie. Finally got to taste the biscuit at Ria's for myself and it is darned tasty. First time I visited this kitschy lil spot was closed due to a power outage. A waste truck hit the line and thwarted my plans to experience the biscuit. So I tried again today. Showed and had to circle the block to park at the eatery next door because the parking here is very limited. I walked in and asked the chica at the door about to-go orders. She directed me to counter seating and sidestepped there. I ordered "the biscuit" with their homemade sausage, egg and cheese. The gentleman that took my order was very pleasant. He informed me that "the biscuit " as a breakfast sandwich is a to-go item only. No problema for I wanted to eat on the go. Took my order without incident and I paid a very reasonable $6.25. He asked where I would be sitting. The counter of course was my thought and general response, but oh no. I will say I have drive past this place and had no idea what it was. I assumed it was part of Tin Lizzy. The parking next to the building is impossible to get into. You are better off looking for a spot in the neighborhood behind the restaurant. The inside is pretty small. The service is pretty quick and efficient. The menu has an interesting mix of foods. The wait was very much worth it! The staff is great working the busiest rush during brunch hours. Very friendly and can answer any questions you may have about the menu. The seating area is a mix of a bench and single chair depending on location. The area is very spacious and welcoming to any party size. The Bionic breakfast was pretty tasty, I added ketchup due to the home fries! So good! I had to cover the plate once done to keep from ordering another! Chicken sausage was delicious as well! We spent a weekend in Atlanta and had never been before. This is kind of crazy since we have lived in Nashville for almost 5 years. We had to wait a little bit, but it was worth it and they supplied us with coffee from a local toaster while we waited. The inside is small and cozy. It felt exactly how I would want my regular breakfast spot to feel. I ordered the breakfast burrito, which was very tasty and very filling. But I'm glad I went with basically ALL of Yelp's recommendations and got the caramelized banana pancakes, and we also ordered the breakfast burrito. I can see why people them the World's Best Pancakes. And they may have been... except for the obscene amount of syrup they were swimming in. As a breakfast fan, I like to be able to manage my own condiment ratio. Too much syrup IMHM (in my humble mouth) can ruin a perfect pancake. Along those lines, the only reason this place isn't getting a 5 star review is because their "no substitutions" policy. Would the pancakes be better with the syrup on the side? Yes. Would the breakfast burrito (which was INCREDIBLE) taste even better if the avocado could have been included INSIDE? Absolutely. It only fits up to 20 people in the dining area and 5-6 people at the bar, so I took my name off of their waitlist and just ordered to go. I ordered them with black beans. They came with two housemade blue corn tortillas on a bed of spiced black beans. On the tortilla were two benedict style eggs, sour cream and their amazing housemade salsa verde. It was such an amazing pair of crunchy and soft and the salsa was the glue to this marriage. I give these Huevos a 5/5. This brunch dish was $15.00. When New York Times rated Ria's Bluebird to have the 'the world's best pancake', I had to try it. Just my luck, I decided to try this place during the perfect season. The pancakes come in a short stack (2 girdled pancakes) or a fat stack (3 girdled pancakes) stacked with whip cream and a side of maple syrup. You can add chocolate, pecans or banana for an extra upcharge. I didn't have these pancakes until I got home and let me say, I would have to agree with New York times decision on this. Fluffy, smooth, and buttermilk flavored. I popped them in the microwave for 10 seconds and it was perfection. Pancakes were also a 5/5. My total came out to 24.15 for these two items to carryout. I would definitely try coming here again, but because of the limited seating may decide to carry out again. They also have egg and cheese biscuit sandwiches not featured on their menu. read more

I got the brisket breakfast and honestly it was pretty good, not like mind blowing amazing but it was good. My main problem was we were seated in an outdoor area and oh my goodness it was so hot! The fans just circulated the hot air around and me and my friend wanted to order our food right away so we could eat and get out, I regretted getting the brisket breakfast because it added to the heat of my body. Ria's has been my go to brunch spot whenever I'm capable of being there early enough to beat the crowd. Everyone loves a good brunch, eh? Ria's menu has something for the meat lovers & the vegetarians out there. For myself, I usually get something off the vegetarian side. Last visit was for the country fried tempeh. Tempeh personally is not one of my favorites-- preferring either regular tofu or seitan, but the tempeh here was crispy and light. The sunflower sprouts were a great touch and the gravy over the biscuits made it a solid veggie choice. Really good! Atmosphere is super cozy too. Can expect a wait though around lunch, but it isn't too long at least in my experience. read more

What can I say about Ria's Bluebird other than it was superb! I've passed this restaurant several times not realizing what a gem it truly is. I will jump straight to the food because that is indeed the highlight of the dining experience. I ordered the Bionic Breakfast Bowl which is a Vegetarian's delight. It was chocked full of thin sliced potatoes, red & poblano peppers, mushrooms, zucchini, and was topped with a delicious tofu sauce! The blends of veggies and flavors was to die for...it is like a party in your mouth. I didn't realize vegetarian dining could taste so good. I also ordered a small stack of their pecan pancakes and when I tell you they were not lacking for flavor or pecans. I could tell the pecans or fresh from the shell because they didn't taste like the packaged pecans. AND the pancakes were stuffed with pecans so you had the delicious crunch with every bite!
