I had ordered a Vanilla soy Latte and a 1/2 order of waffles with fresh fruit and Peanut butter. There was no contact and easy accessibility when picking up order. Easy, fast, and convenient which still makes getting the Best coffee and Waffles in Phill a breeze. I work nearby and finally popped in here to grab some caffeine on my way to an off-site meeting. I kept it fairly simple with an oat milk latte. It was delicious. The person who rang me up gave me a frequent buyer card thing unprompted -- she must have known that I would become a fast fan. I love all the alternative milk options, including French vanilla Nutpods (coconut/almond), macadamia, and oat milk on the self-serve bar. Their space is small, although still offers a bit of seating, and a couple small tables outside. Probably best for a grab and go situation. Everyone, staff and customers, all seemed quite happy to be there. I look forward to returning* for more caffeine and maybe something from their yummy sounding food menu. Avocado Dream Toast? I wanted to surprise my mom for Mother's Day with brunch from Rooted! I ordered the Avocado Toast, the Lemon Blueberry Waffle, the Yogi Waffle and the Mother's Day Special Thanks Ma Toast. Everything absolutely hit the spot and my entire family loved the food. Not to mention their customer service & employees are impeccable. This is a very hip and cool coffee shop in Pleasant Hill. Every detail is well thought of. During Covid Era you can sit outside and there are disinfectant wipes on each table. The owners added cute wall-mounted mini tables more than six feet apart from each other so you can enjoy your coffee safely. We ordered Latte and Americano with oat milk which were delicious. In addition, we had their full waffle with syrup, bananas, and strawberries(10$). It was tasty and enough for two people to share. Here with another update, after coming here basically every week since! As I said in my previous review, Macadamia Nut Milk continues to be the ultimate alternative milk option. It is the highlight of my week and my visits to Rooted. It genuinely tastes better than regular milk, IMO, and the brand used (Milkadamia) is sustainable and free of any added junk. Thank you for introducing me to this game changer, Rooted! Also, make sure you get a stamp card! After 8 stamps you are eligible for a free drink! I've had the pleasure of trying more drink items and must share my delight with everyone here: - Iced Latte with Macadamia Milk: Probably the best iced latte I've had in my life. I don't say this lightly, I love my coffee! I don't know what it is about Rooted's espresso, but it is incredible. Flavorful, not too acidic or too bitter, and so strong. This keeps me buzzing throughout the day.You don't need any sweetener to improve it, but if you do choose to add some, I highly recommend the maple cardamom or pumpkin spice. - Iced Matcha Latte with Macadamia Milk: The highlight of this drink is the matcha. They prepare it the proper way, using a brush + bowl, and it's very high quality (ceremonial grade) from Japan. It's so delicious and refreshing. I've always chosen to opt for straight matcha + milk, but this drink does come with maple by default and I've heard it's great. - Chai with Spices: This is caffeine free, but so flavorful! Filled with bold spice and great hot or iced. I recommend adding a shot if you're into dirty chais. From the eco-friendliness to the good wifi to the love you can taste in the products, Rooted is a gem. I will continue to rave about this local business to everyone I know. I'm so happy that their popularity is increasing daily; while I never thought I'd say this, I actually enjoy waiting in line. The service continues to be impeccable. I recently moved to the East Bay from the Peninsula and my morning routine usually includes grabbing coffee from a local business. It's somewhat of an assignment to find good, local coffee shops in the East Bay lol! Luckily, Yelp brought me to this gem!! Not only are they local, they have the best variety on my list, so far! I really am trying to support local businesses, especially during the pandemic (and ones who offer vegan cuisine), but I've had so many issues in the last several weeks ...twice my order was lost and another time it wasn't prepared correctly (more on that below). With this recent issue, I placed an order online, entered my name, phone number, etc. and selected a time for order pickup. I also received an email acknowledging the order...cool. I arrived beyond the time order was to be ready (so I could grab-n-go) and gave my name to the woman who went inside to look for it. A few minutes later, she came back out, and didn't say anything to me...no acknowledgment whatsoever or anything on its status, and instead went about helping other 'order pick-up' customers asking for their name and heading back-n-forth to get their orders. That exact scenario happened last time they lost my order...after she went in and came back out, went on helping others, no acknowledgement, nothing. So, after this continued for a while and several minutes of standing around, I asked if she found my order yet and, 'again' she asked for my name, and that she'd go check. She came back outside and asked me what I ordered then went back inside. Came back out and said they had an order that matched what I said, but, with no name on the slip (remember, I placed order online with credit card info, name, etc., and even received an email acknowledging order). And, the order still wasn't prepared. After more time passes, she eventually came out and handed me the order, but with no apology for the issues or the delay (wow). Last time this happened, there was also no apology either (sigh). Now about that other issue. I ordered a GF avocado toast (I've ordered this one before, the Avocado Dream - Make it Sunny!). Last time it only came on one slice of toast, although, today, it came on two slices with an avocado mixture slathered in between the slices and then topped with lots of goodness. But, I now feel slighted for not getting the second slice of toast and avocado spread in between slices last time I ordered it. See pics of today's order. To loosely quote a very successful someone in the restaurant industry, having good food draws people to a restaurant, but hospitality and customer service is what keeps them returning. As a social event organizer, I've brought groups here a number of times (pre-covid)...even bringing non-veg-head friends, but, didn't have these issues in the past. But, now it's a recurring theme. Like many others wanting to dip the ole' toes back into the real world, while taking precautions with the pandemic (especially), we purposely order food well before arrival, to keep time spent around others as minimal as possible....'grab-n-go'. I like the food, just not the above, so gotta deduct stars. P.S. If you order ahead, suggest don't tip until you get there. read more

Such a great neighborhood spot. Not quick service but GOOD service. We walk here from our house about a mile and a half away and it's got such good folks all around (everyone's friendly as we've had to share a picnic bench on more than one occasion). Their coffee is LEGIT. And this is coming from an addict who roasts his own Ethiopian sourced green coffee beans and hand grinds his own coffee. The food and especially their donuts are insanely delicious. The waffles are ridiculous for being gluten-free and everyone is just so friendly. Really disappointed with the coffees we got here. We ordered a cappuccino and a drip coffee. Both had unpleasant tastes and were thrown away only half drunk. The cap had a very off bitter taste, almost metallic. The drip tasted watery and burnt. Really surprising since the place looks beautiful and was busy. I like the plant based concept for environmental reasons, but personally prefer dairy milk in my coffee drinks.. wondered if the oat milk could have been what turned the cappuccino weird. The drip... I don't get it... drank black and it was really bad. I always drink coffee black and can enjoy anything from light to dark roasts. I can't remember ever throwing away two coffee drinks. Dog, Hubs, and I are continuing our Sunday tradition of trying new coffee shops in our new area. We were excited by the hustle and bustle and were sure we found a great appointment. We ordered the avocado toast, black coffee, and a Golden Milk Latte iced. Well, the toast was not great. It was on sourdough that did not seem toasted except for the crust. It was bland. The black coffee was good. I hated the golden milk. It was very strong, almost no ice, and gritty. The server was so kind when I asked if it was possible to get another drink as I could not drink the GML. She kindly said yes and I ordered my standard oat milk latte. It was ok. I think that the team might be afraid to put ice in the iced drink because it was also Luke-cold. I still think it is worth 4 stars as it seemed like we were the only ones that weren't happy with our meal. It is very dog-friendly and everyone was in a good mood there. Came for an afternoon pick me up. Service was good, place was busy for a Friday afternoon, and drinks were good. Food was awful, maybe it was what I ordered but it wasn't for me. Did notice a couple flys buzzing around which is a huge pet peeve of mine (tells you a lot about the cleanliness). Creams/milk sitting out not on ice (I'm no baristas but I think dairy / creamer products should be cold right?) maybe there was ice at one point but it was melted? Idk. Drinks: iced chai tea latte (definitely recommend), pour over (not the best, not the worse, but worth trying. Food: grilled cheese was bland and tasteless. It was literally sour dough bread toasted in a toaster and some cheese slapped inside of it. Cheese was barley melted. Also got the classic waffle with strawberries and bananas on top. The high light of the waffle was the fruit. Waffle itself was dense and tasteless. Felt pretty soggy for being freshly made. Pro tip: come for the drinks only read more

I ordered the drip coffee, and i didn't like the taste. I asked afterward if the coffee was a dark roast, and I was told it was a medium dark roast. It had an overwhelmingly burnt taste to it, and I couldn't bring myself to finish it. I asked the cashier if I could exchange it for an iced brew, and she said it was the owner's policy to give me half off another beverage. I just felt like that was cheap, janky, and poor customer service not to exchange something that was not satisfactory. I learned my lesson, and I am "one and done" with places that don't stand behind their products. read more

I first tried Rooted's delicious waffle and coffee when they were at the Walnut Creek Farmer's Market. Then I was excited to hear that they had a Kickstarter to open up a cafe in Pleasant Hill. Of course I had to support a plant based business! Fast forward to today and I've been coming to Rooted for my weekly waffle and coffee fix for a while now. My faves are the classic waffle with added almond butter, avocado dream toast, mocha and golden milk latte. Lines tend to get long on the weekends. Wish they had a bigger space, but they've added additional seating by taking over the parking spots in front of the cafe with more tables and stools. Congrats to Rooted for all their success. This just shows that the demand for more plant-based/vegan businesses in the area is growing, which is awesome. read more

Quality non-dairy creamer used, for example, on today's visit, it was Oat milk (Oat-ly brand). The cardamom maple latte is a unique offering, and highly recommended! It is subtle in all of its distinction, fluffy pillowy, and a wonderful treat in taste and texture. I swear I'm in a different city every month and this coffee shop is still my favorite hands down. Every single thing about it. The drinks are so damn tasty. I usually get the matcha with sweet pea milk. I'm a huge fan of the brand of matcha they use. Top quality. I've had their cold brew and other flavored lattes and I haven't had one I didn't like. I'm not into very sweet syrupy drinks and that's the main reason I love this place. Everything is high quality and never overwhelming. The flavors compliment the coffee rather than overpower it... okay so now for the food. Holy crabapples I don't know where to begin. I think my favorite has to be the avocado toast make it snappy. The chickpea salads are so fire. The waffles are also good. Similar to the drinks I have not tried something I don't like. Oh I can't forget about the donuts! They're also amazing, I usually opt for the omega donut but the others are great too... okay now to the people. I love coming here because everyone who works there is genuinely nice and happy. Rooted obviously treats their employees well because everyone looks like they're having fun working there. I typically see Emily there and she's always so chipper and remembers me by name. Even when I've been gone for awhile. It's just all in all top quality. From the food and drinks to the service. Even the decor is on point. They also have a bunch of cute mugs and merch. I wanted to try this place because I recently have been hearing about it. I know the parking can be tricky since the lot is sort of small, so I decided to bike here using the contra costa trail. Plenty of outdoor seating. You place your order at the front and they'll call your name once it's ready. We were able to lean our bikes against the outside and sit on the bar stools. We decided to get the half waffle and it was a perfect size for sharing if you're not too hungry. The toppings on the waffle was our favorite part about it. The iced mocha was really good to me. Sort of on the sweet side, but I prefer it that way. I don't usually drink oat milk, but i didn't mind the taste. The matcha maple latte was good, but you could barely taste the maple flavoring. Might be because of the waffle we ate though. Overall, nice atmosphere, fast service, and i would come back for the iced mocha again! read more
