Like all Roy's establishments, the place is nicely decorated. Crisp white linen. Comfy booths and dark enough for a romantic evening but lively enough for a family of four. Our server, Lindsay, was absolutely fantastic. Friendly. Informative. Attentive. Quick to respond to any requests. Despite the NYE crowd food came out timely and with the open air kitchen it was actually neat to watch the controlled chaos. Food: It was a NYE fixed 3-course menu. Starts off with a taste of the Islands with a tuna skewer. I know there is a fancy term for this but I forget lol. We each got to choose an appetizer. Gyoza, Lobster bisque, and two poke. Mains: Darn right my wife went for the classic misoyaki butterfish. It's her favorite and a must at Roy's. I went for the filet mignon with lump crab meat. One daughter ordered the strip steak and couldn't finish it by herself. Both steaks cooked to perfection. My other daughter went for the night's special which was osso bucco. All meals were just outstanding. I ordered their old fashioned which was well balanced. Desserts: Sadly the famous molten lava cake wasn't on the fixed menu but there was zero dropoff in the deliciousness of desserts listed. We decided to relive Hawaii at home and well it wasn't quite what we were expecting. Service was amazing and always on point but food really didn't meet our expectations. After Hawaii we couldn't stop thinking about this place and kept wondering why there were so many mixed reviews. Well after coming to this location it explained it all. Our apps were ok. The raw fish app was hard to chew like it had a fiber that we couldn't chew. Our main means were cold like they had sat at the window for a bit. Service was taking a bit longer than expected even though the restaurant was not busy. The booths are hard to slide into. Wan if you're wearing a dress ask for a table, thank me later. There was a pesky fruit fly that kept landing on our food but we couldn't kill. Drinks were good although very pricey. The menu didn't have what Hawaii had so we had to pick other items. Overall the place was ok. The seafood was a bit too fishy for our preference which made us wonder the freshness of it all. The mash on our plates was completely foul, tasted like rubber. We went during a busy tradeshow week and the food was likely delayed for big party in private room. The party was not tradeshow related. Our drinks and Appetizers were timely as this held us over getting a canoe for 5 people. The ribs were good, as well as the Chicken Eggroll. The calamari was ok, little chewy. I went here to celebrate my birthday and had a nice time. The mango lychee margarita was flavorful and refreshing. Their shrimp tempura was crispy and savory but I wish the portion was bigger. The scallops were perfectly cooked however it was a bit on the salty side for me. My favorite item was the complimentary birthday cheesecake which was scrumptious and not too sweet. The service here is great and our waiter was really attentive. I also love that they set up a cute birthday card with flowers. The downside is that the food is pretty expensive for what you get. I wish I could make this post specifically about the bartender and server being friendly but unfortunately that is not what this post is about. I felt bad for the whole situation, but when you wait 20 minutes for a cold appetizer to come out and then when it is received it is literally inedible because of how much sesame oil it is drenched in. I have ordered this dish before from here and know how good it normally is. This time was truly disappointing, it takes a lot for me to return a dish (especially after waiting 20 minutes for it, mind you this was not a busy night) I HAD to return this dish as it truly was inedible. Just judge by the pictures. That is more than half sesame oil. If you know sesame oil. You know a little goes a long way. I did not need a puddle of sesame oil at the bottom of my plate. Upon receiving I mentioned that, and was told that they heat up the oil and pour it over the top of the delicious yellowtail!? WHYYYYY this dish is labeled as a hamachi "carpaccio" very misleading that you receive lukewarm yellowtail. Very unpleasant, either make it a hot dish or a cold dish but a warm dish just is not right. ( not to mention that I was told it depends on who is working that station in the kitchen. The lack of training and consistency in such a fine dining establishment is truly disheartening. When people pay that much for a dish they expect consistency.) I returned it and waited for another, after a little over more 10 minutes on a refired COLD DISH I told them just to cancel it. In no world am I going to wait 30+ minutes for a cold appetizer. At this point the manager hasn't even come to talk to me to update me on the food or when it will be out. I had to find the manager just to tell him what was going on he claimed he had no idea there was an issue. That's fair, but anytime there is a refire the manager should hit the table. Period. If that is lack of communication between servers and management that should be acknowledged and corrected. Just because a customer isn't fuming at their seat, doesn't mean it is ok for lack of service and quality. I will say the manager did try to give me a meal for free which was kind but honestly I already had a sour taste in my mouth from the whole ordeal and didn't want to wait however long it was going to take to actually get the food out to me. Enrique although a kind thing to offer, I think you guys need to take more accountability for inedible dishes and inconsistencies in dishes, because I was met with a lot of excuses. I will add a photo as well that you guys can compare to other photos on here because, I was being gaslit into believing that this was actually how the dish was supposed to be served. I would HOPE that the executive chef here would NOT have let that dish hit the table if he had seen it first, one of the worst dishes I have had from here (again they claimed that the "ponzu" and the sesame oil were combined on my dish, I can promise you this is 90% sesame oil and 10% ponzu.) The oiliness was unbearable. Please please please. Train up the kitchen staff. Consistency is KEY in running a great restaurant. We asked if they had anything vegan, and they brought out an entire menu. Bravo! PROS: Fresh quality ingredients. Wonderful friendly service. They sat me in exact spot I envisioned. The ambiance and arrangement was slightly uncomfortable. The lobster bisque with lime juice and coconut milk created a unique interpretation that appeased the palate. The fresh scallops with lobster sauce incorporated well with the black rice. The cherry heirloom tomatoes did merge well. The chocolate "souffle" tasted nice, but the ice cream with spiced crumble delighted the senses. CONS: The ambiance was more casual than any other Roy's that I dined. This could be the case due to the proximity to Disneyland. OVERALL: It's a good value compared to the other higher end "chain" restaurants in the Anaheim Convention area. Nicely done! We read about so many lives lost to drunk or DUI drivers that my wife and I decided this year to just have a quiet, early dinner for NYE. I wanted to go to West Hollywood or DTLA but she wanted to stay close to home. So we compromised with Roys in Anaheim at the Garden Walk. Parking, on this evening was busy with a queue about 12 cars deep just to get into the parking garage. Luckily, they had EV chargers open, so we got a good spot and charged at the same time! The wait was fairly short, but they were taking walk-in's. We were disappointed that so many people were dressed casually while my wife and I took the time to look nice (at least for each other, but heck, that's what it's all about anyway, right?) especially on NYE. You'll get a mix of people here from tourists visiting Disneyland from all over the world, to locals, like ourselves, looking for a nice night out, to business people trying to seal the deal (I kid you not, there were some guys next to us talking about real estate (on NYE!)). The service was impeccable as was the food. We were disappointed that the chocolate souffle was not offered on the NYE prix fixe menu. However, what was on the menu was stunning. The lobster bisque, which I order at other restaurants when I get a chance, was absolutely amazing. It was velvety with good pieces of lobster, not just an essence. My wife's tuna poke was likewise superb and, to date, is her favorite, bar none. Unlike a traditional poke served over rice, this was molded with avocado and served next to won ton chips. It truly was delicious. For the next course, I ordered the filet mignon, medium, with lump crab cake and added a lobster tail (the dish comes only with the crab cake and filet) and my wife had the Chilean Sea bass (one of her go-to dishes when it's available). My steak was cooked perfectly, with just the right amount of pink in the center with a good char on the outside. The lobster tail was juicy and not overcooked (unlike Hell's kitchen... SMH). The lump crab cake was free of shell pieces and not overly salty nor overly breaded. The Yukon mashed potatoes, like the bisque, was velvety smooth, with a hint of butter and natural potato flavors. The asparagus was excellent as well as the truffle onion and misoyaki demi-glace. The sea bass was delightful (I'm running out of superlatives and descriptives here...). It, too, wasn't overcooked and was moist and flavorful. My wife's eyes just about popped out of her head with the first bite. She loves fish, but really, really loved this. The garlic noodles under the fish gave just enough contrast in flavors and textures to enhance the bass without being distracting. The Nishime vegetables and Thai lime emulsion, likewise, were a perfect compliment. As our meal also included dessert, we opted for the guava panna cotta. I'm not a fan of guava, but my wife is. All I can say is that I'm a fan now. At least if it's prepared like Roy's. It was a white chocolate mousse with strawberry champagne sauce and pink peppercorns. There was also an edible flower garnish. I never eat the flower garnish, regardless of restaurant, but tonight I decided to give it a try. It was delicious. Also, whoever thought of mixing peppercorns with a sweet dessert should be knighted! Amazing juxtaposition of flavors. We ended the evening with a toast and some champagne and beat the erratic and inebriated drivers and were able to kiss our kids, all four of them, goodnight as we waited for 2024 to roll in. While not as pompous and spectacular as our other NYE's, this one was delicious and meaningful. A wonderful dinnner and night with my wife, and a warm homecoming to my kids. If 2024 is anything like this night, we'll need another reservation at Roy's... make that several reservations and a chocolate souffle. read more

Mother's Day at Roy's in Anaheim was .. great! The line was long but that is expected. The kitchen was heavily taxed and that was expected too. The calamari was to die for. My dinner choice: Shellfish Sampler, with Grilled Maine Lobster Tail - Seared Sea Scallops - Teppanyaki Shrimp - Yukon Mash - Blue Crab Basil Cream. $65. Nothing stood out. It all tasted mildly like seafood, but again, not delicious. My SO had the Grilled 8oz. Filet Mignon with Gruyere Scalloped Potatoes - Szechuan Vegetables and Truffle Onion Misoyaki Demi-Glace ($59). That is a LOT of words for a little steak with potatoes and some sauce. It was a decent steak and cooked properly. Our service was fine but a little perfunctory. This is not high-end dining, even though you may think so. A table next to us had a family with three small children making a complete mess while their parents were both slamming wine and talking on their phones. Never forget this is Disney-adjacent. My curiosity has been satisfied. I wouldn't visit another location of this chain. It's not awful, but it's not great. Dining at Roy's was a very nice treat for me and my sisters! The food and the service were excellent! Nice island decor adds warmth to the dining experience. To start we had lobster potstickers and wok fried shrimp tempura. These were definitely good choices to start with. Misoyaki butterfish with Baby Bok Choy and furikake rice was my entree. The miso marinated fish is light and flaky, a bit sweet and maybe a little salty. It's a favorite of mine! My sister had the braised short ribs. She said it was really tender and good (and she's a very picky eater!). Dessert was chocolate torte and macadamia nut bread pudding--both were good choices! The tort was rich and dense. The bread pudding was moist. I also had a glass of chardonnay--Roy's by Bianchi. It was a nice compliment to my meal! The location is pretty busy, being near Disneyland, located in the Anaheim Garden Walk center. There seems to be a lot of parking in the garage. Roy's validates up to two hours of parking. I was very excited to try this place for the first time! I once saw it in hawaii but was unable to eat there. Luckily i got the opportunity for lunch! It is a very clean and expensive restaurant inside, very classy. It has an open kitchen as well which i think is cool, and lots of tasteful art on the walls. The staff was very professional and welcoming too. We had the lobster potstickers (6.5/10) and the chicken spring rolls (3/10) for appetizers. Now i dont care for chicken spring rolls so they are probably amazing in general but for me they werent to my taste. So very biased opinion along with the potstickers (good but not amazing). I had the lobster bisque (1.5/10) it was thai inspired which the menu tells you but unfortunately the heavy lemongrass (i think!!) flavor did not go well with the bisque. I expect my bisque to be mostly hot cream and seafood and nothing else. So it was personally not to my taste. The real star of the show were the short ribs!!! Melt in your mouth, flavorful and meaty. A generous portion. The mash underneath was absolutely delicious and everything was well seasoned. Was it $46 worth of awesome? I'm not sure. But at least it came with sides unlike other upscale places. For dessert i had the thai lime tart. Richness of a cheesecake without the cheese flavor. It had a lot of lime and you could tell it was homemade. The graham cracker crust was a bit hard in places but it complemented the custard part well. I probably wouldnt come back BUT it's definitely a fun experience and good for a special occasion. Roy's wasn't our first choice but it was one of the few places that would accommodate our last minute Anniversary party for our parents. We needed an early 5pm Friday dinner reservation because we had small kids with us. They were able to accommodate all 8 of us. Once we all arrived they were able to sit us down right away. They did give our parents a nice anniversary card but unsigned. Also, I immediately noticed their pricing on their menu has gone up a few bucks for each item. I went with their Misoyaki butterfish which included an Alaskan black cod, bok choy, some carrots, salsa and Furikake rice. The butterfish was delicious and was flavored with a hint of a sweet taste. It was cooked perfectly and I loved it. My husband got their Shellfish Sampler which included lobster, one jumbo scallop, and 3 jumbo shrimps on top of mashed potatoes and some bok choy. He said it was good. My ML got their Chilean Sea Bass which she enjoyed but the portion was really small compared to the sea bass I got at Mastro's the night before. It was probably 1/4 the size at other steakhouses. My brother in-law started his meal with a lobster bisque and complained that it tasted too much like coconut. He seemed to like his Classic Four dish which had 4 different types of fish. We ended with some pineapple cake which was recommended to us. They told us to order early since it would take 30 minutes to make. The portion was very small. It came with some coconut ice cream. For our parents, they gave them a complementary chocolate cake with some ice cream for their anniversary. Our service was awesome and they were really attentive. They answered all our questions and were really good with the kids. While we were there that Friday they were doing a training thing for the servers by the kitchen. A little odd for them to being doing that on a Friday night. I feel like Roy's in Anaheim tries to be an upscale restaurant but it's more like an overpriced seafood place. Their fishes are good but I don't know if it's worth the price. The portions are on the smaller side just in nice plates. The restaurant itself also looks super out dated and are due for renovation. I love Hawaiian cuisine and have been wanting to try Roy's for a long time. Today we finally got a chance to try it, taking my husband and family for a Fathers Day lunch. Our waitress was super sweet and great service all around from everybody. We tried the lobster pot stickers and ahi tuna for starters which were great although ahi tuna lacked a little flavor and could've used more chips to eat the tuna with. My husband ordered the seared ahi tuna which he raved about and the kids meals were great and generously portioned. I ordered the salmon which I was excited for and wanted to love but it was lacking flavor and the portion was so small! The kids meals were much bigger than my entree. We tried the pineapple upside down cake for dessert which was pretty good. I received my bill and noticed something they are adding to all receipts called a wellness surcharge in which they charge 5% on your bill to cover employees medical cost. If you don't want them to do that, then you actually have to tell them to remove it. I just couldn't believe that they did something like that and I was pretty upset about it. It's already expensive and in my opinion overpriced for the food served and on top of that I'm getting charged extra to cover healthcare costs!?
