Went to this steakhouse last night for my birthday dinner celebration with my family.. and it was a less than expected experience.. if you dont mind the waitstaff complaining about you to one another and making rude comments.. then this is your place to be.. I was helping the waitress by removing some of our bread plates as she was placing our dinner plates down.. by putting them on the empty table next to us.. mind you, these are not very big tables.. a little square table for four plus all the crap they put on the table.. doesnt leave much room for when they bring your dinner.. so instead of saying thank you to me for helping i got, "i've only got two hands, I will move the plates in just a moment!" Ummm.. really is this how your expected to talk to customers.. and then she went back to the soda fountain dispenser right after saying this and then was obviously talking about us to another waiter.. because we got the head spin from that water and he was looking right at us.. I dont mind someone talking me in the service industry.. but have some freakin class and do it in an area that I cant see it. I immediately went and found the manager and told him what had happened.. all I got was, "Im so sorry that this happened", he never came over to the table while we were finishing our meals to check on us or to even comp a little something for what had happened.. I WILL NEVER EAT AT THIS PLACE AGAIN! Watch out for the brunnette that likes to wear her hair in pig tails and prance around and give you sh*t! read more

First time I've ever eaten here. Came in a week or so ago. Sat in the back of the restaurant. I believe our waitresses name was Nicole. The food was amazing but other than that it was a horrible experience. The service was absolutely terrible. Took about ten minutes for our waitress to come by when I could see her sitting there talking to friends. Same thing when we got our drinks and were waiting to order, just sitting there on her phone. On top of our glasses were extremely dirty. I don't know how glasses are that dirty after they are washed. Or how she didn't even notice they were dirty before putting water in them. When me and the wife got our food a different waiter brought our food while ours just sat there talking. We were pretty much done with our food by the time she came by and asked if we needed anything. Any time we did ask her for anything we would get snobby attitude. Considering my glass was empty before I got my food but she was acting like it was so hard and that she filled it so many times. Maybe if you actually checked if the glasses were clean you wouldn't have to run back and forth. This is the worst service I have ever had and because of it I don't know if I would ever come back. We had an outstanding dinner here tonight. It was our first time eating there. The staff was friendly and professional. Among the three in our party, we had the new york steak, fillet and parmesan halibut. It was all excellent and was as good as I've tasted in any restaurant. Truly a positive experience. We had friends in town from Arizona and headed out to dinner after picking them up at the airport on a Wednesday night. A coworker had told my husband about the restaurant. We recently ate at the Washoe Steak House, this place blew them out of the water. The girls had the NY Strip, the guys had the rib eye. Both were amazing. My husband and I both had steaks, baked potatoes (which they deep fry) I had salad he had the marinated mushrooms along with cocktails. Our bill came to around $51. That is a steal for as much food you get, the great service and atmosphere. We will be returning! read more

We go to the Peppermill Casino on a "regular" basis. For our 25th anniversary we decided to change things up and try a new place. WOW, did we find it !!!! Ruby River Steakhouse is right across Virginia St. from the Peppermill Casino and is one of the best places we have found in Reno. We walked in the door and we could tell this was special. We got a bucket of peanuts and were shown to our table. Their menu has a great selection of steaks, ribs, seafood and all kinds of appetizers. We had a warm loaf of sourdough bread delivered to the table to start ... ummmmm good. She ordered a Ribeye, medium, with Caesar Salad and Garlic Mashed. I had the half rack of ribs, Caesar and batter fried fries. The steak was so tender you could slice through it with a butter knife, and the mashed were perfect. The ribs fell off the bone, and were ordered without sauce ... great. The battered fries were crunchy and perfect. We had a Mango Margareta and a 20 oz mug of Bud, What a great meal. The steak and ribs had that great BBQ flavor and the service was absolutely spot on. This is a must go place to eat a great meal. When we walked in, they asked us if it was a special occasion and we said it was our 25th. At the end of the meal we were treated to a hot Apple Cobbler with Vanilla Ice Cream, whipped cream with a Caramel Sauce Drizzle... OMG! And the great part is that it all was $68 with a $15 tip. This is just ok. Cooking does not seem very inspired. Service was fast and you can call ahead and get your name on the list but I am not sure it is worth the wait. I had salmon , Caesar salad and garlic mashed potatoes and I could have made a better meal at home. Hubby had same sides with an 8 oz sirloin and thought steak was ok. Poor experience in pretty much every aspect. Appetizers came out lukewarm. The lettuce on my salad was not fresh - and when I pointed this out, no replacement or substitute was offered. My steak was ordered MR and arrived closer to M - not a fatal flaw, but when you can hardly get the knife through the meat, its not good. Manager offered a replacement steak which arrived quickly and was decent, but I certainly wouldn't call it very good. Overall - take a pass on this place. read more

We got a table right away on Saturday, although it was still early, before 5:30pm. The ribeye was one of the best I've had in a long time, ordered medium rare and it was perfect. Waiter recommended the Jacket Cinnamon Yam as a side and it was delicious, more like a dessert than a side dish. My daughter thought the garlic mashed potatoes were awesome. Was totally thrilled to find this place. Price was very reasonable. The food was fantastic. Both my wife and I had steak. Came out perfectly for both of us. Extremely tender and juicy. The sides were the type of things usually offered as an appetizer only. I was able to get a great tasting yam and sauteed mushrooms for my sides that came with the meal. We were looking for a good place for a steak outside our hotel (Peppermill) and we found it at Ruby River Steakhouse. We ordered the top sirloin and I couldn't believe it was a top sirloin, it was that good! And the have great prices and the service was outstanding too. We returned the next night because it was such a great experience. Both nights my steak was cooked perfectly just the way I ordered it so very reliable. Worst over-cooked filet & prime rib ever! Paid $70+ for the meal & everything was OVERCOOKED! Told the waiter I wanted my filet cooked "pInk" in the middle. Came out grey-brown. Manager was a total d!(k Made me feel like a bi!t( h for asking that my $24 steak be cooked correctly. Prime rib was totally grey when we asked for it "medium." Manager was condesendiing. One star is one too many for this dump. My husband, son, and I went there for dinner. We arrived at about 7:30 PM. The sign at the front entrance said they were open until 10:00 PM. The waiter finally came and with a quick flourish introduced himself like we were going to be best friends. Wrong. We placed our order when he deigned to show up. We each ordered a salad for one side. Our main course was served by a girl. No waiter. We asked about our salads and finally big boy came back with the salads and said that the salad person left. Never heard that excuse before. He did say that he would include the Mud Pie dessert for no charge. Our son was out of water a few minutes after we sat down. No one offered to fill his glass. The manager came by our table while we were eating and asked if everything was okay. We finished our dinners and luckily a buser came to clear our plates so I could get a to-go box. We asked him for more water. He finally must have alerted our errant waiter because he showed up and we asked for our dessert. Another LONG wait and our Mud Pie came. The whipped topping was by this time a pool of white mush and no longer had any resemblance of garnish. He left our bill and finally filled our water glasses. Now the real wait began. We sat and waited for him to take care of our bill and waited and waited. I finally got up and took the bill to see if someone somewhere would take our money and let us out of this nightmare. To my surprise we were the only customers in the entire place except for one guy at the bar. I asked the bartender to take our money but she said she didn't know the number. She said she would get our server and I asked for the manager at the same time. I could see our waiter (I guess you could have called us the "waitees") standing In a doorway with his back to us. He could have cared less. He finally took care of the bill. The manager said that he thought something was going on. Flash!!! As we left, it was 9:00 PM and they were literally rolling up the rugs at the front door and were obviously closed an hour earlier than the sign on the door. With any luck, they will close permanently so no one else will have to go through this gastronomic disaster. The manager did not offer any compensation for our inconvenience. Buyer beware! read more

Our meals were terrific from start to end, particularly the steak (best meat I've had anywhere, cooked and seasoned perfectly). Atmosphere is casual Western, but not over-the-top. Our server, Doug, was prompt, friendly and attentive - as was everyone who waited on us. If you love steak and seafood, Ruby River ranks among the top in our experience - yet it's very affordable. I have to give this place 2 stars cause the steak. First off the service is great. Drinks get there fast. We had a party of 8 and most everyone liked their food. Big problem with my steak...ordered the ribeye, says in description that it's seared at 1600°l!! Ordered med.rare, steak came out gray. When I asked waitress why steak was just gray she informed me they did not have the equipment to make a char on the steak....wtf! My grill at home only goes to 550 and I get a great char with grill marks everytime. I feel likei was lied to by either the menu description or waitress. When mentioning 1600° cooking temps they should be able to accomplish everything from black and blue to welldone. I would not call this a steak house for anyone that is a serious steak lover. My grandma ordered hers med rare and got med well, she sent it back and asked for rare, hers came out nice the second time. Had grill marks and all. Once again WTF. Very inconsistent. I had high hopes for ruby river the restaurant was below average standard. Our server if that what you could call her was slow and you could never find her. I order prime rib and that is hard to mess up but they did it was a poor grade of meat it was tuff with no flavor. I will never eat there again. read more

I must say the only thing I did not like about this resturant was the parking, but it did not upset me enough to lower their rating, this is one of my favorite resturants and I go there as much as possible, only one time did I have a bad experience and the GM more than took care of it for me and again it was resolved so well that I cant dock them for that either, and all but one server have been outstanding and friendly, I have probably been to this resturant 30 times.....two thumbs up read more

We went to Ruby River in Reno last night for my husband birthday, made reservations and were seated immediately, The food was excellent or server was very nice and professional, never had to tell him who got what food he knew (Kyle). The only complaint I had was, we were with friends (and made reservations) 6 of us. We were placed at a booth and with 6 adults it was very confining, ordered an appetizer and the bread came it was very uncomfortable. I feel since I made reservations we should not have been stuffed into what I feel was for four. We will go back but will express my feeling about the seating at that time or when we made reservations. read more

Two strikes and you're out! I've been here twice. The first time they overcooked my steak. Medium came out like charcoal. I decided to give them a second chance. Big mistake! This time the salads tasted like mildew. It was nasty. My mom almost vomited right there on the table. We informed the waitress, after she finally returned from wherever she had disappeared for 20 minutes. She didn't much seem to care. Then, when my over-salted steak arrived, I had a side of mildewy, moldy vegetables. Wow! I could barely eat my over-salted steak (because it was so salty) and because the mildew smell was overpowering all my other senses. Again the waitress disappeared for a long time. When she finally did come back, she offered nothing in exchange for grossing us out while stealing our money for moldy food. We decided to leave before the vomit made it's way onto the table. I wish we'd gone down the street to Outback. I wouldn't recommend this place to a dog, it's that bad! read more

This is my first Yelp review. I can be a real pain when going out to eat, and I travel between 90 and 120 days a year doing classic car swap meets, which means that I eat out A LOT. I am really picky as to the food, and way I like it. When I am paying for something, I want what I ask for. Now for the review. Last year we were in town for Hot August Nites and ate here. We got what we ordered, the way we ordered it. Tonight we tried the place again. The food and service were even better. When I order a steak, 2 out of 3 times I have to send it back because it is either under or over cooked. It seems that very few chefs know how to make a medium steak. This sirloin was PERFECT, and tender! It came with a half a roasted chicken that had been partially de-boned, and not overcooked. They use good sized chickens, and the half was more than I could finish with a 6oz steak. It would have been a lot if it was alone. The mushrooms were tasty as well. The service was good too. I consider the cost reasonable for what you get, with soft drink, about $29 per person + tip. We will definitely be back next year. The only possible complaint that I could make is that the manager didn't have the same sense of humor that I have. Thinking about that, I may have to give him EXTRA point for that. We are not steak lovers usually, but we went to this restaurant because my mother is a carnivore who only eats red meat. I wasn't real impressed with the greeting when we came in, but it was Saturday night & they were packed. The waitress (Stephanie), however, was perfect!! She anticipated our every need. She filled our drinks as soon as they were emptied, came to ask questions & clear dishes at the right time. She was friendly and unrushed. We complimented her to the Manager & he, as well, was friendly & unrushed. The best part: THE STEAKS!!! I don't generally eat steak because it is difficult to chew. I was very impressed by how tender they were and sooooo easy to chew. They were the best steaks I have ever had. Since we came there for the steaks, they did their job to perfection! The great service was was an added bonus. When my daughter asked for restaurant ideas, I referred her here. Steak is her #1 food group & she was very impressed as well! GREAT JOB!! read more

I took my family and I to Ruby on Friday, July 1st. We come to eat here every time we are in town for the amazing steaks and service. I can honestly say I have never had a bad meal here. However, my visit last night left me feeling less than happy about my choice to dine there with my family. When we came into the restaurant we were greeted by a nice young lady who then instructed another host to seat us. My first impression of this hostess, (I believe her name was Bailey, or Brenda, or something to that affect as I just took a quick glance at her name tag, I just know there was a B.) was that her taking us to our seats was an inconvenience to her due to whatever personal issues she had that appeared to be more important than seating happy customers. As a usual, I was excited for the usual bucket of peanuts to get me started on my dining adventure but we were not offered any. When we sat at our table, there was no friendly conversation and the menus were basically tossed on the table and as she turned her back to stomp away, mumbled something like have a good night. I have never quite experienced this type of negligent and rude behavior by any employee in this establishment before and like I said we are regulars and I was shocked as i have never had anything negative to say about this place ever. We had a lovely waitress, Shelly, the food and service was fantastic as usual. I cannot help however, leaving somewhat disappointed as when we were passing by the host stand the same hostess that seated us was standing there alone, on her cell phone, and did not even acknowledge our leaving with a thank you or have a nice night. So unprofessional. Extra props to Shelly and the food... I will return as a usual customer, but am hoping I am greeted and sat by one of the other hosts. read more
