Casual Vietnamese restaurant with interesting exotic meats like ostrich, alligator, frog, venison, and goat on the menu. But we opted to try their more traditional dishes instead to see if we liked their cuisine before deciding to come back and try the other meats, and unfortunately the ostrich was sold out on Sunday night. Overall the server was very nice, and checked up on how we ere doing while we were eating. The only thing is we requested either no cilantro or just put on the side, and every dish had cilantro still garnished on top. Presentation of food was great. The famous baked catfish was underwhelming, it tasted fishy to me and I had to drench it in their sauce for it to taste better. It did come with a lot of rice paper, veggies, and noodles to make spring rolls, but I would probably pass next time. Medium size baked catfish (the only size they had) was about $85-90. I was excited for the catfish hot pot, but it was way too sweet, more like sauce just to flavor the catfish. The deep fried quail was bland but sugary. And the deep friend shrimp was okay.

Honestly, this was one of the worst Vietnamese restaurant I have been to. I guess among SGV, your chances of good viet food is pretty high, but unfortunately we stumbled upon this. Their house special grill cat fish was dry. like just dry, and very underwhelming in terms of seasoning. One can argue that this is ok because you'll wrap it up like a spring roll and dunk it in sauce.. but the fish was $85 and the spring roll would've tasted better with almost anything else. Pork belly, nem, shrimp etc etc. Also their catfish hotpot was soo sweet it was basically a dessert. Soup is not drinkable. Avoid all the deep fried things if you do come here. When we came, the oil they used for deep frying was definitely very old. Very unpleasant taste/smell. Was probably suppose to change it out couple days ago. Overall, not a good experience and should avoid.

Spot on restaurant if you want some solid Vietnamese style family meal. I came here for an early Fathers day and my dad being Vietnamese wanted to come to a Vietnamese Restaurant. We ended up getting the family style dinner for 6 ($130) which had the perfect amount of food with just a small amount leftover. Everything was delicious and these are my thoughts. Seafood Meat and Vegetable Hotpot - Think of it like a hearty chicken soup with a bunch of random meats and veggies. It's delicious and oh so comforting. (4/5) Catfish in Caramelized Sauce - This is a must. Hands down the best Ca Kho To I've had. Catfish was so tender and the sauce was flavorful. No issues with the bones. (5/5) Shrimp with Caramelized Tamarind Sauce - Another absolute banger of a dish. Shrimp was a tad crunchy but the sauce was out of this world. Delicious. (5/5) Sauteed Cubed Beef over a Bed of Greens - This was good. Meat wasn't super tender but it wasn't super chewy either. Flavors were good and overall I liked it. (4/5) Clams with Basil Sauce - Another winner. Clams were pretty large and the sauce was so flavorful. I made sure to take home all the extra sauce because it was too good to waste. (5/5) Water Spinach Sauteed with Garlic - It ain't a Vietnamese Cuisine if you don't get some veggies and this hit. It's flavorful and its pretty tasty. (4.5/5) It's not super cheap but it wasn't too bad either for tasty food. We also got some pandan/coconut jello at the end which was also delicious. I can see why my parents selected this spot, it's tasty and perfect for a family outing. Heard the large oven catfish is supposed to be pretty good here too so something I'll have to try next family event. Note - Parties of 6 or more have 20% gratuity added already. Parking - They have a shared lot and it was fairly large.

This was like a hole in the wall type of store! I never knew this store existed until a friend found it nearby us. For us 4, we ordered catfish, a soup, and the escargot. Everything was sooo good! I wish they gave me a pick (toothpick) or something for the escargot cause I only got 40% of it.

Mom and pop shop with great food and decent price. Me and my friends came for a late dinner and the food was super filling, tasty and although the portions were small, there was a total of 5 dishes (I forgot to take one of the dishes) and also pandan jello dessert included. Shares the parking lot with the large restaurant that faces the street. Edit: went back with my family, they added service charge for groups at 20% tip? We only had 7 people

Stopped by here with my husband after noticing that our go to pho spot closed early. The restaurant feels like a hole in the wall/family run spot but still cozy. I got the pho dac biet and I thought it was mid 3/5 but my partner's bun rieu with snail was really good 5/5 so I'm averaging out my review to a 4/5. Service was direct and attentive, no fluff waiters. Food arrived quickly too. We want to come back and try their other foods! Parking: free street parking or lot in the back

The food here is so delicious. We got the chicken salad and the catfish hot soup with rice and it was the right amount of food for two people. The chicken salad is cold and herbal and well balanced. The hot pot was super good with the rice, but I do have to warn that the fish is fresh and still has bone-in. I like the OG purple gel fire, it makes the whole restaurant smells amazing. The bathroom is inside the restaurant and is very clean. Servers are attentive, but sometimes it takes a bit of time to come back to the table because they're running around to all the tables and it's so busy. But I think it's a great sign that all the tables are full, all the food is so good.

    Braised catfish. So good

Here for dinner on a Saturday night but there was no wait. We got seated right away tucked in back of the restaurant. This is a family style restaurant but also has other single plate options. We ordered braised catfish in claypot, sweet and sour catfish soup, stir fried veggies, and shaking beef to share. Braised catfish was our favorite dish. The fish was braised to perfection. Drizzle some caramelized sauce over rice. It was so good. Catfish sweet and sour soup was good but it is on the sweet side which I am not a fan of. I wished it is a bit more sour. Shaking beef was not as good as I expect. It was not the tender beef cubes. It was over cooked with a chew but it has flavors. Came out on a good size plate but it is mainly water crest, bell peppers, and onions. Stir fried veggies was good with a crunch. Will definitely come back for braised catfish and the other dishes.

Sáu Can Tho Vietnamese Kitchen is known for its baked catfish. It also has a solid lunch menu of rice platters and noodles. Com Ca Kho To: In a metal pot, the braised catfish filets are caramelized for a sweet and savory flavor. The hot and tender meat flakes off easily with a buttery finish. I need to come back with more people and try the baked catfish with the whole wrap setup.

My friend was craving baked fish spring rolls. I only know a few restaurants around the 626 area that offers it. If we had time, I would head to OC for baked fish. This review is only for the baked fish. My family loves baked fish. We had so much of it. I know how a fresh and good one taste. TRUST! The medium one here was $90, which was pricey! When my family ordered a medium in OC, it fed 3-4 people. We even had leftovers. I was amazed that the medium here had so less meat. I pretty much was able to finish one whole side of the catfish by myself lol I was hungry, but not really...I was in that kind of situation. For this reason, I was a bit surprised lol Pricey was not the biggest problem. I was disappointed because the catfish lacked flavor. OMg! When you eat the ones in OC, you can smell and taste the garlic, lemongrass, green onions, and etc..This one looked nice, but it was pretty bland. The skin wasn't even that crispy. The fish was not super fresh. Most likely dead fish, but a good one. It wasn't mushy. There was only one dipping sauce instead of 2. The anchovy sauce (mam nem) was not that great. We all know that a good sauce makes everything taste better. I couldn't even use the sauce to make the fish better. I do have to say, the service here was great. The guy was attentive. He refilled our vermicelli rice noodle and changed our plate without us asking. We got free jello for dessert. It was good. They did offer a discount for the baked fish. YOu must order a medium to get it. It was still pricey. If you really crave a catfish, this will prob do. It didn't hit the spot for me. I rather drive the distance to OC for baked fish.

People come here for the baked catfish but they also make a very good Bahn Xeo (crispy crepe with prawns, pork, mung beans and sprouts). See pics for what I ate the other night. Not a fan of snails but the coconut sauce for the snails is very good and everything is good to pair with steamed rice. They make legit Vietnamese food and it looks like they have quite an array of proteins from goat to snails to frogs to even alligator.

Mid to small restaurant/ cafe that specializes in Southern Vietnamese dishes. The place feels family owned and the folks here are super nice and helpful. I had this place on one of my list, but decided to come here because I was craving Viet food and it was cold and rainy and wanted something warm and comforting. This place has been on one of my lists and actually visited twice in a few days. Was craving pho, but saw some bo luc lac (shaking beef) on the menu and ordered that. Came back for the warm, comforting pho a couple of days later. I was dining solo after work, so their lunch/ cafe menu was perfect for me. They have a more extensive, banquet/ family meal style menu that I didn't even look at because there's no way I could have ordered a lot. I think the food here is great and it hit the spot for sure. The shaking beef was very well cooked and the rice was great. The pho broth was clean and tasty and was exactly what I needed in that moment. I think this restaurant is great and I didn't even get to try what they really specialize in and that's the baked fish. Maybe someday...when I come back with family and/or friends. I came during the week and it wasn't busy at all. Street parking right outside was easy to find.

The variety of food here is extensive and interesting. I enjoyed seeing exotic foods on the menu and got a set and fried frog legs. The AC could use improvement in the summer, as a boiling pot of catfish in front of me was overpowering any cooling the fans and AC were imparting.

What's the price of their small or medium baked catfish?

Currently, our signature Baked Catfish is priced at $60 with all the fixings. The medium size range from $75-80. Thank you for your inquiry.

Is there a new phone number for this place? Wanted to place an order and no one answers or its a unset up voicemail box. 🤦🏻‍♀️

Sorry we missed you. The number is (626) 307-8868. If it's busy, please call back. Looking forward to serving you.

I notice many of your dishes have crushed nuts on them. Would it be possible to get them on the side? (like the baked fish as an example) Some of my friends do have a nut allergy, can this be on the side?

    i'm sure, just ask.

Is this the old Phong Ding? I saw a menu someone posted?

It is the old Phong Dinh, however, I never tried it before so cannot compare the two. The service and food are pretty good with the new name.

    Where is it?

It is located on the side of the building along Earl St., right behind Diem Thanh Thanh.

Other stand out items are the banh beo and the com tam/broken rice dish with everything on it. The best imo are the suon nuong/grilled pork chop, bi or shredded pork, and the cha or crispy meatloaf. Each com tam dish comes with of course a mountain of broken rice, pickled veggies, fatty green onions, and a fish sauce based dipping sauce. They also have pandan waffles at the counter which I love. They are not quite as chewy and bouncy as other places, but that's my preference as I like a more traditional waffle texture. Plenty of coconut shavings and coconut flavor.

That's right, 5 minutes. Although I did go around 9:50AM so there wasn't a line nor another party in the dining area. Food: I woke up craving Vietnamese and this place didn't disappoint. The Bon Rieu had the depth of flavor that I crave. Honestly, I judge most Vietnamese pho restaurants by their Bon Rieu because some places simply use seafood powder in their stock to fake it. What results is a very thinly flavored broth that has very little umami. Bon Rieu should have THE MOST umami of any soup dish because of its tomato and crab base. That's how you can tell if a place is cutting corners. The Nem Cuom is huge and the dipping sauce is generous. The House Special Tea is reminiscent of a passion fruit green tea from a boba place. Sweetened just enough to not be saccharine. Ambiance: Quite small. I believe one of their main issues may be parking during peak hours as it shares a tiny parking lot with many other businesses. HOWEVER, neighborhood parking is plentiful and just around the corner past the Sheridan Hotel and Starbucks. Round the corner and you'll find plenty of parking throughout the day.

I wanted to try their rice noodle soup with a mix of egg noodles and rice noodles, and let me just say... the picture speaks a thousand words. What arrived looked quite different from what was advertised on the menu. Although most of the ingredients were there, it definitely wasn't as pretty or as generously presented as the photos. Rice Noodle Soup (Egg Noodles + Rice Noodles Mixed) Rating: 6.8/10 The soup itself actually wasn't bad! The broth was light, clean, and nicely seasoned without being too heavy. While I enjoyed trying something different, it isn't a dish I'd order again on my next visit. Now let me warn you about their sauté sauce... It is PACKED with flavor but also seriously spicy! I made the mistake of adding a little too much to my noodle soup, and let's just say my taste buds definitely woke up. A little goes a long way, so add it slowly! The restaurant itself is very modern, clean, and has a trendy fusion vibe that makes for a nice dining experience. As much as I appreciate the updated atmosphere, I always find myself gravitating back toward the more traditional, authentic-style Vietnamese restaurants when I'm craving comfort food. Service Unfortunately, the service on our Sunday visit was probably the biggest downside. Our waitress wasn't very friendly and didn't seem interested in explaining the menu when we had a few questions. Instead, she came across as if she was in a rush the entire time, and her overall attitude felt a bit off-putting. It honestly made us feel like we were inconveniencing her just by asking questions. Great service can really elevate a meal, and unfortunately, this experience did the opposite. Between that and the food, it's another reason I probably wouldn't go out of my way to return to this location. Overall, it was a nice spot to try once, but next time I'll probably explore a different dish--and maybe a different location. Happy eats!

Golden Deli has been my favorite restaurant in the SGV for years. It's a small family run…read moreVietnamese restaurant that's been around since the '80s, and it's easy to see why it's always busy. If you're in the SGV or surrounding areas this place is a must try!!! The restaurant is small but busy, it's lined with booths and shared tables. Nothing fancy, the food is the reason why people come. The staff is friendly, fast and keeps everything running smoothly. The menu is huge, the portions are generous and the prices are reasonable. I've never had a bad meal here. My favorites are the pork chop over rice, the beef banh mi and tom thit kho with dry egg noodles and broth on the side. Everyone loves the pho here but I haven't gotten around to trying it. The crispy egg rolls pair well with everything. Make sure to wrap them in lettuce and dip them in nuoc cham and you'll see why they're a must try. No reservations so expect a wait. Get there early to avoid the long line. They're open everyday from 10am to 8pm, except Wednesdays. Parking in the shopping center can be tough but there is plenty of street parking nearby. They have a second location in Temple City but I'd stick to the OG San Gabriel location. Try Golden Deli for amazing Vietnamese food at a reasonable price.

Im no expert on Vietnamese food, but the egg rolls here can't be beaten. Super crispy outside,…read moregenerously filled and paired with a delicious dipping sauce I was hooked instantly. The pork chop didn't disappoint either. Also super crispy, but tender and juicy. It was plated over white rice and cucumbers which brought the whole dish together beautifully. The Pho was good, but the broth was milder than I expected. Definitely not the best I've had. Servers were laidback and friendly. They helped me narrow down my options because I was overwhelmed by the menu size. I'll be back for more.
