Tried this place after reading all the raving reviews about their coffee and wanted brunch today. Wanted to love this place but unfortunately knocking off a star because of the coffee. The horchata latte had zero sugar, was not sweet at all. I could taste the horchata flavor but that was about it. The waitress brought some sweetener which improved the flavor a bit but still wasn't as good as I was hoping. The eggs florentine benny was quite good, no complaints on that really. The potatoes that they cook with their breakfast dishes were excellent. The service here was alright, waitress did give me someone else's food by accident. Also another thing I wanted to mention is that their coffee cup lids are NOT the correct size, had to spend at least 5 minutes trying to fit the lid into the cup. Minor inconvenience but still worth noting. Would have given this place 5 stars if the coffee didn't fall short. read more

Came in with our family for a weekend brunch - everyone enjoyed their drinks (coffee) and food. My omelette was somehow delicious even though it's just a vegetable omelette- the eggs were creamy and fluffy, the seasoning was just right! My partner had chorizo skillet, which he enjoyed and continued talking about the next day! The decor was sweet and lovely, service was prompt and great! I really want to root for this location as they have amazingly delicious food and great portions and very friendly owners. I even supported their location in Baldwin Park (which only survived for a few months). However, service is inconsistent and you really need a great deal of patience to enjoy the vibe here. The location is small and intimate but can get very congested with people during the weekends. A young friendly gentleman seated us immediately but we sat at our table outside for over 20 minutes without cutlery and only one jug of room temperature water. The waitress wrote down the order in a notepad but was still forgetful as my food was not made to my specification of no onion--I simply brushed them off because I felt bad about wasting food. I was disappointed that they ran out of their horchata latte and my iced cafe de olla needed to be stirred in order for me to taste the cinnamon and sweet flavors. The chorizo skillet is my favorite item and was perfectly filling but their salsa this time was not as delicious as the last time I tried it. We asked for more water three different times and it never came out. Our food came out and I had to wait several minutes to be handed cutlery to start eating. Also, they need to update their menus. I noticed that when I got the bill, the items were priced slightly higher than advertised and that was even before taxes were applied. I don't mind the higher prices but they should be transparent. If it weren't for their amazing food, I would have rated one star and I really want them to succeed. They are very forgetful and need adequate training to be able to manage on the weekends. A few months ago when we came right at opening with minimal clients, the service was on point but they do not work well under stress. The parking situation isn't great you have to park on the street if you don't get one of tiny 4 spaces they have out front. Even if you have a reservation expect to wait. The food was decent, I got the chilaquiles. I am not sure what kind of fusion they are trying to go for as they have chilaquiles that are Mexican then some Cuban items along with Mediterranean items on the menu. I really wanted to like this place. The vibes and decor are great and the service was super friendly, but my overall experience could have been better. We came around lunchtime on a Saturday and I guess the crowd really affected our dining experience since, I assume, they're very short staffed. Waiting to be seated wasn't too much of a problem since we were seated pretty quickly. After ordering, our drinks came out decently fast, but the real wait happened to get our food. Easily over 30 minutes and our server apologized multiple times and when my friend got her food first, she said she was gonna put a timer for a couple minutes to definitely make sure my dish was gonna be out ASAP. Unfortunately, the mimosa flight is no longer on their menu and no longer available and when we went they were out of their fruit tea. We got the: 1) Chocolita's Mocha Latte: -Came in a HUGE almost soup bowl sized teacup. -Great coffee pick me up and lasted me the entire visit through sipping it slowly. -Honestly tasted more like a cinnamon hot chocolate than it did a mocha latte, but I'm not super into the strong taste of coffee so this was fine for me. 2) Cucumber Lemonade: -Refreshing, strong tart lemonade flavor with a hint of cucumber. -I have to admit it was just a little bit too sweet, but if you're slowly drinking it, not a problem. 3) Signature Chilaquiles with 2 Eggs (extra $1.50) -A decent amount of tortilla chips that still had some crunch to them (not soggy). -Salsa was tangy and flavorful. -Favorite part of this was the rosemary potatoes for sure. 4) Chorizo Skillet: -Since the soy chorizo was the same price as regular chorizo, I opted for this since the substitutes generally cost more than the original. -This was a mistake on my part because the soy chorizo option is for vegans and it did not come with an egg (I should have asked about that, but my bad). -It came with a side of tortilla. Nice. -The skillet came with only a small amount of soy chorizo and only a small amount of the rosemary potatoes that I liked so much from the other dish. -It was mostly zucchini and cabbage. -An alright dish, but I got tired of it pretty quickly and had to take it to go. If someone invites me again, I don't mind giving this place another shot, ordering something different from the menu and going at a different time for sure. read more

I came in about a week and a half ago. Ordered a breakfast burrito, waited for my to-go order, I expected egg, potato, protein and onions, etc. It was busy with a few people for this restaurant 15 or so. I was never asked what I wanted inside so they assume that over-spicy chorizo and egg were okay for me! Well needless to say I couldn't get through the half of the burrito and didn't want the rest at home. I was looking forward to a nice burrito and coffee since it was a Thursday going into the weekend. I been there before with my son we had a good experience with the food and service. We sat outside and although this place is small, they were able to amp up space and add more tables outside that leads to a big picnic table to accommodate bigger groups. We love coming here for the food but honestly the wait is terrible. Do not come here if you're in a hurry. They take long to wait on customers. They don't acknowledge you and I made a "reservation" and came in 10 minutes early and they told me reservations still have to wait. Up to an hour! What kind of reservation is that!? Everyone coming on has to wait an hour so why even offer one!? This is so disappointing because the food is so delicious. I hope they find a better way to organize themselves. read more

The flavors were there, all jammed packed into this small skillet. It comes with this green sauce that works perfectly. We had the Hazelnut latte and it was just a warm cup of goodness. Thanks to Yelp, I found this amazing restaurant close to home. To be honest, SAGE is located in kind of a sketchy looking area: in the 7-11 plaza next to a coin-op laundromat with an abandoned food truck trailer and taco trailer in the parking lot. But don't let that deter you. Once you go in, you are transported to a cozy, beautifully decorated cafe with an outdoor patio on the side and relaxing music playing in the background. My friend and I ordered the smoked salmon Benny and Banana Foster Dutch baby to share, and I got the brown sugar latte. The lattes come out in these HUGE Central Perk sized mugs. Although it was a tad too sweet for my taste, it was a fantastic latte. I'll have to order it next time less sweet. As for the food, it was all soo good! The Benny (aka benedict) was buttery and flavorful and the Dutch baby was like a pancake cooked in a cast iron skillet, with the perfect amount of sweetness and topped with yummy fresh fruit! The entire menu looks so good, and based on this experience, I'm confident that everything else I want to try will be equally amazing. I'll definitely be back with the family for more good eats! Our server was super friendly and nice, but to my surprise didn't wear a mask like the rest of the staff (maybe health reasons?). Parking and location! You have to be a super loyal customer that has eaten here before and absolutely love it to keep coming back. The location is very inconvenient by being on a corner lot that's shared with a 7/11 that also has ev charging stations taking up space. There are street dividers that make it harder to get into the parking lot. The only free parking is at the taco spot next door but there are signs everywhere stating cars will be towed and no customers from Sage allowed. Really the only parking available is up the busy street. I've tried going 2 times and the wait-list was over an hour long with 15+ ppl ahead. Also, no mimosas or alcohol served. read more

Such an eclectic brunch eatery. They have a unique menu, with a Mediterranean/ Mexican feel. We opted for a chorizo scramble, Dutch baby, mimosa, and sangria. Drinks were light and refreshing and necessary for a Sunday brunch. The chorizo skillet was savory, loaded with potatoes, meat, cheese, red onions, and tomatoes; it paired beautifully with their homemade tortilla. I was obsessed with the tortilla! The Dutch baby also came in the the skillet and had a light crisp edge, but a pudding like consistency on the inside. It was topped with a variety of food and thick cream. Good but definitely heavy. The only issue is parking: they are located in a tiny strip mall, next to a laundry mat and a 7-11, so cars don't necessarily leave... there is a large lot that is for the taco stand but is not affiliated to Sage, so they may tow your car. read more

Somehow we got seated trying to figure out where to check in. Ordered two coffees and after 30 minutes we finally received them. Sage showed up on my feed a while back so after scrolling through the Yelp page and photos, I decided to check it out. The restuarant itself was cute with its brick and ivy vibes. Sadly service was incredibly slow and lackluster. It took us a while to catch the employee's attention after we had walked in and were trying to ask to be seated. It was also difficult to catch our waitress's attention throughout our meal, to the point where I got up and asked for the check instead of waiting another 15+ minutes. Food-wise, I had ordered the famous Charm Dutch Baby, which was pretty good and super fluffy, and I loved how it melted in my mouth. The skillet the Dutch baby is served in though is piping hot and I burned my fingers trying to move the plate, so a heads up from the waitress would have been appreciated. The place is poppin! The lines can be long and they no longer accept Yelp reservations (but haven't updated the Yelp page as of writing this). Located in a small plaza, there are other shops around that claim their parking spots so really there isn't a lot of parking so look for street parking. The place is compacted so beware. We decided on the Chorizo Skillet. so solid with the salty chorizo, the freshness from the tomatoes, the fat from the cheese and the zing from the raw onions) Super solid and comes with a flour tortilla. We also got the Dutch Baby. Also solid with some crispy edges but soft and gooey in some spots. Enough sweetness from the batter but also from the cream and the fruits. Both really good and ok priced. The dock of the star was for the service. Yes it was busy but it was a struggle to get help, some utensils came dirty, they rushed us out of the table as politely as possible but it did still feel awkward and not what I'd like as a customer. If you have the time to wait though, it has good food and I think that's worth it even with the subpar service. read more

Pleasant service, but food leaves much to be desired. Staff were friendly and pleasant, but that is the nicest thing to say about SAGE. My first tipoff in quality was the recognizable odor of wet dishrag in our complimentary water cups. Ordered the French toast sampler trio which I supposed to come with 3 varieties of French toast, but only 2 slices of toast with whipped cream and berries came out. After pointing this out to the server, it returned with only another sliced of toast with cream and berries. The ordered maple glazed bacon came as a pile of burnt bacon upon a plate smeared with jam. Our avocado toast trio came with no devil in our deviled egg. I didnt want to be a public Karen, so I ate without voicing my complaints. I could not wait to leave. read more
