They didn't bring our plates out at the same time, and when they did bring out Will's food, it wasn't what he ordered, so there was another wait. Plus, the waiter had steered him away from a sausage dish saying it was more of an appetizer, so Will got the salmon instead, which turned out to be much less food than the sausage he had originally wanted. This was one of the more disappointing dinners I've had lately. And when it's disappointing and very expensive, I'd like to let others know. My boyfriend and I dined at Salt's Cure last night, and I had been looking forward to having dinner here since the location moved to walking distance from my home. It was easy to get a table on Thursday night, which is always welcome, especially when you arrive very hungry! We ordered the pretzel bread and some grilled oysters with some cocktails to start, and unfortunately our experience peaked here. Every item took ages to come out of the kitchen, and the restaurant wasn't nearly full! By the time we got our appetizers, we both were just shoveling food in defcon one hangry mode. The pretzel bread was delicious (and also quite petite) and the oysters were well-cooked. For our entrees, I ordered the steak frites and boyfriend ordered the savory clams, with a side of Brussels sprouts. His clams were relatively tasty, but my steak was both undercooked and flavorless. Everything on both of our plates had to be salted heavily--we didn't miss the irony here--and we were left feeling full but bummed that we could have gone to In N Out and been much more satisfied. Ordered a salmon toast, after almost an hour it arrives. From the 3 ingredients listed, only 1 was on the toast. Diced salmon on top of a bread. Barely no hummus and definitely not one single radish. I questioned a guy who worked there and he seemed annoyed, then the waitress later said they were out of radishes. Basically a really shit way to start a Saturday. It was just so lazy, there was no flavor, tasted like someone just threw salmon on top of a burnt toast and thought it was ok to charge $17 for it. read more

I loved this place when it was on Santa Monica Blvd. I raved about the pork chop to my wife and when I took her there the first time, she concurred that it was a damn good chop. We were thrilled to find out they moved. The space is beautiful. However, there are definitely kinks to be worked out. I ordered a cocktail which took over 15 minutes to arrive. My wife had nearly finished her glass of champagne before I got my drink. In fact, one of the appetizers I ordered arrived before the drink. Then, both of my appetizers (yes 2 apps for me) arrived before my wife's salad, so she had no food in front of her for a while. Confusing why we would get chicken liver toast before a salad. We both ordered the pork chop. We were hoping to order a green veg as a side, but there were none that night, so we ordered the roasted carrots. All delish. Another problem arose when we were finished eating. We both left a great deal of meat on the chop bone, intending to have pork and eggs for breakfast the next day and give the bones to our pups as a treat. Both of us specifically asked the bus boy to pack them up. He confirmed...and then proceeded to throw them in the trash. We really didn't get an apology from our waiter or management. We liked it before when it was just over on santamonica with a few tables but now we love the new location on highland... YAY! they gave us coffee while we waited for our table... we asked for it and it seemed kind of irregular but they happily obliged my little request and the brunch was really lovely... they seem to go for a very savory style of food... it's nice. read more

I've been here 3 times and the food has, most of the time, been very good. The pancakes are delicious and the 2x2x2 and All-star breakfasts are good if you're very hungry - but lately it has become an annoying experience to endure. The servers seem to have been forced to hold customers to a strict set of rules that really have no good reasoning behind them. My suspicion is that there must be an overbearing manager or chef who keeps the staff under his thumb. A few examples to illustrate this: -- I want pancakes with a side of bacon -- Can I get a side of bacon? "No sorry we only offer sides of sausage." So there's no way to get pancakes and bacon? "Well you could order the All-Star which comes with 2 pancakes, 2 eggs, 2 sausages, and 2 bacon strips, and a biscuit" - A negotiation begins at my table where my friends start to discuss who might eat the other things I don't want, but after that doesn't pan out I just give up and forget the bacon. - -- My friend orders eggs -- "How would you like your eggs?" Over medium please. "Well, the chef can only prepare them sunny side up or scrambled." ... really? Ok, I guess.. sunny side up please. -eggs arrive with the top layer of egg uncooked and slimy, not in a good way- Sorry could you just cook these a bit more? -eggs disappear, eggs come back quickly, essentially unchanged and still slimy- Sorry, they're just not cooked enough could you please cook them a bit more? "Well, we prepare our eggs a little different than other restaurants, would you like us to scramble them for you?" Could you just cook them a bit more please? -server begrudgingly takes eggs away a second time- -eggs finally come back cooked properly- -my other friend who ordered scrambled eggs receives them also undercooked and slimy. He doesn't want to deal with the same annoying process and just eats them anyway. - -- My pancakes arrive -- "Does everything look ok?" Yeah but could I get some syrup? "No sorry, the chef prepares them to be enjoyed without syrup" (are you surprised? I wasn't) Could I get some extra butter then? -butter arrives with subsequent $0.25 additional charge on the bill- -- My friend orders iced tea -- "and what would you like to drink?" Iced tea please "Sorry we don't have iced tea today" Do you have hot tea? "Yes we do" .... -- My friend orders coffee -- "and what would you like to drink?" Could I get a flat white decaf please? "Sorry we don't serve decaf coffee" ----------------------------- What could be a really great restaurant just isn't because there is no effort made to accommodate the reasonable expectations of their customers. Can they keep decaf coffee around? No. Can they pour some hot tea into a glass of ice? No. Can they offer syrup with their pancakes, something that 99% of other restaurants do? No. Can they cook their eggs properly the first *or* second time without putting up a fuss? No. Can they take some bacon off the grill and put it on the plate with my pancakes? No. Get it together Salt's Cure. Your food is good - but it's not *that* good. read more

The food here is utterly delicious. Half the time, the service is really bad. I've been here a handful of times. The first we had an excellent waiter, it was a midweek afternoon so he could take his time and tell us all about the menu and himself (we recognized him from a show we love) and it was a great experience. Today it was a busy weekend brunch and the service really suffered. I am not fussy, I'm European and service is generally a lot more reserved and less in your face. I don't need smiles or gushing, AND I don't mind waiting a long time for really good food, however if it takes me 45 minutes to get a very basic cocktail and you don't apologize for the wait or explain what happened that isn't good. My companion ordered an Irish Iced Coffee which was beautiful but arrived 30 minutes before my mixed drink, making the meal feel fragmented. They didn't take our food orders for a really long time but I saw the wait staff cruise slowly around seemingly just checking tables. I understand rush times, but their pace was super slow and no one was explaining why taking our order was taking so long. We got an array and everything was amazing, besides the mushrooms which were missing the pepitas for some reason, but they still tasted good. The griddle cakes, eggs, biscuits were lovely. I don't eat pork fat so I asked the server to bring some plain butter, they said yes, forgot so I waited a while and simply went to the kitchen myself. For the price I don't expect to have to chase my food. Definitely go but during slow times and not if you're in a rush. The chef is obviously very talented and the menu is beautiful. This isn't what salts cure was about. This new imposter with the same name is the biggest bummer of an "upgrade" I have ever encountered. They change the menu and the ordering dynamic. They change the feel and music as well. Easy listening jazz! You're trash salts cure. What happened to the record player bumping Dr. Dre and bone thugs n harmony? Did you grab some yuppy investor who changed your vision to his own liking or did you simply turn into some significantly lamer version of your former self?! Food was ok but not acceptable as they don't have bacon anymore. Salts cure, please pay attention to the lousy reviews and make some revisions as your new restaurant is so disappointing that I'm embarrassed for you. read more

Really enjoyed this restaurant with nary a hiccup in either food or service. We started with 3 appetizers: a special of abalone with shitake mushrooms, the Venison tartar and the chicken liver spread. By far the chicken liver was the best but, as usual, they didn't provide enough of the delicious toasty bread (we ordered a side of bread to finish off the spread and the tartar). The tartar was good: done in the traditional style topped with a raw egg. Not the best tartar I've had but quite acceptable. The abalone was the only dish we had that fell short of the mark. The flavors of the abalone were masked by the mushroom and other ingredients. Abalone is such a special mollusk that it really should be presented in a minimalist preparation to showcase its flavors. The entrees were all a hit: duck with cornmeal pancakes (delicious!). 1/2 chicken perfectly broiled and succulent in an incredible broth. The signature pork chop cooked to perfection. And, finally, a special of T-bone goat medallions in a mint sauce that was spectacular. Surprisingly the weakest dish among the entrees was the pork chop. It was delicious but the other dishes just out-shined the chop. No desserts were ordered but they had some interesting selections including a few variations of bread pudding. I can't wait to come back to this restaurant...it really exceeded our expectations. The service was good without being invasive and the manager came by several times to ask how our meal and experience were. Very friendly staff who make us feel quite welcome! read more

However who likes a limited menu although out of 5 dishes 3 were fantastic- the potato soup, citrus salad, and the pork chop- pesto dumplings and mussels were tasteless. Additionally when asked for a slice of bread I was charged 3.00). My main issue was the service our waiter never checked in with us, old plates piled us and both servers and bus people walked by and picked up nothing. I had to chase down more water including my check. Yikes get better wait staff and service not focus on cleaning up your shift you have paying patrons. Not the great place it used to be. The Salt's Cure I frequented for years hooked me because of its bold flavors. The pork chop with the brown onion sauce and lots of grilled onions that was featured in LA Weekly as a must have in LA; well, it no longer exists. Why? The waitress says it's because "the owner likes to change it up". The pork chop they serve now is as plain as can be. Decent pork chop? Yes. Does it compare to the old pork chop? Absolutely not. Also got the Beef Hash and it tasted so bland. The Beef Hash from The Churchill blows this one away. Their specials are 4 or 5 different type of steaks now like Delmonico ($99), rib eye ($86), T Bone ($64). It's a freakin' steak house now? Oatmeal Griddle Cakes were amazing as always but that's about it. The owners of Salt's Cure have always changed the menu up often based on what ingredients are available to them but now it just seems like they changed everything altogether. $65 brunch today and left way unhappy. Server never even bothered to ask how the food was, either. See a lot of negative reviews on here and no interaction or concern from the owners or management. We either like it or don't come, I guess. I'm done with Salt's Cure for a while. Hoping they can make some changes and go back to being the amazing brunch spot they used to be. As for the new locale... Super easy to find parking. Restaurant was full and we were still sat immediately. Only big parties waited. Full bar now. Outside seating is nice too. If like me you are going just for the griddle cakes, do yourself a favor and order them to go and save $$$. Rating this two stars. Same as I would with any other place that charges me $65 (two people) for a $25 meal. read more

I've been to Salt's Cure many times and always enjoyed the food and the service and the ambience. But today, they crossed the line. I ordered their avocado and grapefruit salad for lunch after the waiter suggested it with salmon on it. What he failed to mention was the price of $16 for about 4 oz of grilled salmon added onto a simple $12 salad. I've eaten everywhere in L.A. from Spago to Gwen to Bestia and every trendy expensive restaurant in between. Never have I felt more ripped off. It's the principle of the thing. A $12 salad with a $16 add on? Nope. Not even in New York. Won't be going back to Salt's Cure. read more

I love this place . Coming from Texas, I have to have my brunch every time I visit LA which is about once every six weeks . "All Star" is my favorite . The only negative comment about this place is the pricing .-- March 2016 Updated review: I used to rate this place with high recommendation. Today I came back with my family again and am "very very" disappointed with the current service. Today my family of four ordered the same regular dishes. After The first plate was served , the second was served after 10 minutes. Then, the other orders just never came . Our two sons had to watch two of us finishing the whole meals without their orders. We reminded the wait staff several times for the situation , still no sight of their food. We noticed other tables came after us got their food already . Finally the third meal was served 15 minutes later, but not the fourth order. By that time , three of us had already finished our meals . The waiter who served our table did acknowledge the mess up and promised that he would tell the kitchen to expedite. The last order eventually came after another 10 minutes. Manager came over to extend the apology and offered a comp desert. Waiting for another 15 minutes , no desert was served . At that point , we all lost our appetite for that comp desert and decided to leave . I am changing my review to "one star " today and hoping they recognize that they are losing their best customers this way and do something about it By the way , we are not coming back to this place . I've been to the old Salt's Cure space on Santa Monica and last week was my first time at the new location on Highland (old Ammo space). The space is sleek & modern but really warm and inviting. The open doors to the street are wonderful. We had a lovely meal at the bar and although we really enjoyed our meal, some of the dishes could be improved upon. Although to their defense, this restaurant does meat the best, and we did not order any meat dishes on this evening. We ordered the spinach soup (outstanding), grilled oysters (yum!), the potato dumplings (bland & under-seasoned) and Tuna with beets (meh,not the best combination together). There is one issue worth mentioning b/c it was a bit disturbing. Since we were seated at the bar, the bartender was waiting on us. When our bill arrived the total was $96. We gave him our cards for the split. When he returned with our receipts I noticed it was now higher amount of $114 split $57 ea. At no time did the bartender advise us that he re-ran the bill at a higher amount. So I questioned him on it and he sheepishly looked down and then admitted he forgot to charge us for a drink. I did tell him that was not cool and he should have come over and told us that he forgot to add in a drink instead of just thinking we wouldn't notice and slip us a new bill. He admitted he should have informed us. I really disappointed and a bit angry about this but I think this was an isolated incident. I will definitely go back but I can't give more than 3 stars because of this issue. May not sit at the bar next time though. read more

I was taken here for a lunch and had a difficult time finding something to order that wasn't meat based or had ingredients that I liked. What I ended up with was some kind of grapefruit salad. Okay, so we were there last night and suffice to say, I didn't want to leave. From the moment you walk in there is a comfortable neighborhood vibe that extends from the front door to the bar to the table for dinner. The food was incredible ! Duck leg with oatmeal pancakes !
