We tried to eat at this restaurant today, but the hostess was so surly we had to leave. There were nine of us and when we entered the restaurant, the hostess rolled her eyes and asked if we needed a table. She said there was no way she could seat us for 15 minutes, did we really want to wait. I aked her why she was so frustrated with us trying to eat at the restaurant? She got flustered and said she would find us a table. I've eaten here before and the food was decent, but I will never spend a dime here again with the horrific welcome we received. I've written many reviews before and have never given a one star rating. This hostes should be ashamed of herself. read more

Zero ambiance, always crowed and noisy, and parking is a bear. However! Some of the best food in the area, especially their fried seafood and bar style pizzas. Their clam strips are the best on the South Shore. read more

I like their South Shore bar pizzas alot. The crust is always crisp and the toppings are delicious. We ate in the restaurant once and found it to be quite average. The clam chowder was good, but the fried clams were a little soggy. One of the meals came out of the kitchen cold and had to be sent back. We will stick to the pizza. read more

Had dinner last night w another couple. Everything was great. Three of us had fried seafood & it was cooked perfectly. It was a mix of scallops, fish & clams. With a few onion rings, fries & cole slaw. A really nice helping. The fourth had surf & turf. Which he said was excellent. It's a bright family restaurant very casual. All dinners were only $18. My wife and go here often for great food at good prices. She loves the Lazyman Lobster Pie and I love the pub pizza and great appetizers. The service is generally excellent with each server pitching in to help each other in the dining room. Probably the only negative is that the restaurant and bar are always crazy busy so sometimes you have to wait for a table, and the bar is so small there's no room to wait while having a couple of drinks. This is our local, so I am a little biased. However with all the other choices in Scituate it says something that we keep coming back. The food is excellent and decent value for money. The pizzas are very nice. The fish (i am told) is all very good. Portions are large. Staff are friendly. It can be a bit of a wait for the dining room at busy times but I suppose that this is a good sign. Friendly bar if you get the chance to sit in that side of the house too. read more

I've been here a handful of times as well as ordered takeout. Service. The service was very good every time I've been there. The staff has always been helpful and kind even though the restaurant is always loud. Food. The food has gone down hill over the last three or four years - like there has been a change in management or something. The pizzas are generally good - one is plenty big enough for one person. The seafood is acceptable, but it should be better considering the fact that Scituate is a fishing community. The rest of the food is subpar. Don't bother with anything from their dinner menu, unless you go to dinner at 4pm. And I've never had a salad that contained so much wilted, brown vegetables in my life. Stay away from anything that contains fresh produce. Bar. You will generally find the same 7 people in the bar no matter when you go, so you should try to get to know them. The draft beer selection is eclectic. If I remember correctly, they had Bass and Coors Light on draft and that's it. Kids. It's so loud in there that my screaming kids just get drowned out by the noise, so it has that going for it. Overall, I would give this one star. read more

Forget "The Cape" on your map. Scituate IS the real deal and the Satuit Tavern is as good as it gets for real local seafood prepared as it was meant to be. Fat lobster rolls on toasted bread unencumbered by "filler" - just real lobster with a bit of mayo and spice, thick clam "chowdah", huge clams, cold beer and warm service. Even the pizza is divine and chowing down while listening to the locals talk about baseball, fishing and the weather is a pleasure. Try it! read more

Highly Impressed with the flavor & size of the starters and entrees. We shared, chowder, calamari, & onion rings. For entree we had the surf & turf, (steak tips & scallops) 2 broiled seafood platter. Their Chowder was one of the best I've had on the south shore, it was thick and a meal by its self, Calamari has a lovely crispy coating over tender perfectly cooked calamari. The onion rings was good, maybe I was spoiled with how good the other 2 were I didn't notice them much. All of us loved our entrees, we never had stuffed sole before and we all loved it. The reason we didn't give the 5 stars is the potatoes were not great, not sure if it's just a bad night or the brand they use. They just seemed like an afterthought after how much work went into a great selection of starters and entrees. The veg was ok. The presentation also probably didn't help as they were both side by side on a plate. Next time we will try the mash & a baked and see what happens. It certainly won't stop us from returning. Been here so many times and it seems to just be getting worse. When you order take out the people that answer are almost always short with you and rude. Last order was awful, burger was so rare (ordered medium rare) made 2 ppl sick. Salmon was covered in oil or something and there were2 cherry tomatoes on salad. I mostly get take out from here but do eat in from time to time. It is a half mile from my house so it is very convienant. The biggest thing is, I have never had a bad meal here. We almost exclusively order seafood and it is always fresh and plentiful. It can get crowded and noisy and it does have a townie feel. Since I am a Townie, it's perfect! In these times we all are trying to frequent and support local restaurants. Tonight both hostesses were so rude and unaccommodating that we will never go back and we live in Scituate. We agreed to wait 25 minutes for a table, now mind you the food here is at best mediocre and the atmosphere and decor is pedestrian but nonetheless we agreed to wait for a table. The hostess asked for a name, then a phone number and said "we will call you when your table is ready". When we went outside a large group of people had congregated within 15 feet of the door waiting for their tables. Not appropriate. We went across the street away from the crowd to wait for the call. After about a half hour we went back to see how much longer it was going to be and we're met with a very upset younger dark haired hostess that seemed exasperated that we were told we'd be called when our table was ready. She went inside and appeared to get into an argument with the other hostess who took our name and number. Obviously they didn't call us and passed us over on the the waiting list. Then the older gray haired hostess, the one who took our name and number and said she'd call us when our table was ready proceeded to come out and argue with us about what she had said, denying she told us we'd be called. She was unapologetic, argumentative and rude then suggested that we'd have wait our turn again, maybe another 20 minutes. It's unfortunate that this restaurant fails to appreciate its patrons during these difficult economic times. Well, my contribution to the economy of our local restaurants will go elsewhere. read more

The Satuit Tavern serves the best fried clam strips on the south shore. It gets crowded, but it's worth it. For all the restaurants in Scituate Harbor, this is by far the most hopping. Just goes to show you that the locals know where it's at. read more

I recently moved to Scituate and live down the street from the Satuit. i had heard great things about it and felt lucky to be within walking distance to a great restaurant. Being so close to the Harbor, i thought they would have great fish and chips. Unfortunately, tonight was my second visit there and my second try at fish and chips. And my second disappointment. Once again, the fish was obviously not fresh. I recognized the perfectly shaped square pieces of fish that looked very much like the frozen Gorton's Breaded Fish that is available at your local grocery store. ( I could have stayed home) I know from experience that fresh fish and chips are not uniformed, but have an irregular shape- and taste much better than what i had. Shame on them for not serving fresh fish since they are located so near the docks and Mullaney's Fish Market. Gave it a try, but Satuit is off my list. read more

My family and I have been to the Satuit Tavern probably a dozen times. The food is quality and the prices are reasonable. Service is usually pretty good. I would call it very good but not great, but the locals love it because they are very busy nearly all year round, so if you go during prime hours Thurs - Sunday there can be a wait. The Irish Mixed Grill, Baked Stuff Filet of Sole, and most seafood dishes including the clam chowder are very good. So are the ribs for appetizer. read more

Food is decent and service is okay. Timing seems to be a problem when everything including your cocktail all comes at the same time. Our main problem with this establishment is the amount of plastic used even when dining in. We were there several nights ago and counted 8 single use plastic items for just two people, not including the straws we didn't ask for. Tartar sauce, cole slaw, etc all served in plastic containers. How about just putting these sides and condiments on our plates or reusable dishes. Even paper cups for the tartar sauce would be acceptable. Sent this feedback to management and disappointed to see no acknowledgement. It'll be a while before we go back. read more

Went there today for lunch. Both of us had the fish and chips. Nicest fish I ever had. Moist, thick chunks of haddock!!!!! This is served with both onion rings and fries, and cole slaw, of course!!!! Service was great and rest rooms clean and safe. We will be going back for sure!!!!! read more

So I have to be up front and say I have been here dozens of times of the years and just in the past few months I have to say things have taken a turn for the not so good. After noticing the prices have gone up I had hoped that the quality might go up a bit, but it was the exact opposite. It really seems that all the food taste the same ! Very bland and portions are on the decline. I always either get the clam strips or pizza, but our last visit which prompted this review, really made me rethink my choice in dining. For starters the for was not hot or warm, just cold. As if it was cooked by mistake and then given to me. Then as I tried my cold fries and cold and chewy clam strips I decided that I needed to take a break from this place and seek other options. I will say that the wait staff has been there for years and they are awesome. Just the food is just the run of the mill low quality bar food. At an inflated price. I give it 3 starts only because of the wait staff. Not the food. That would have been 2 stars at best. Also, maybe remind the loud mouths at the bar that there are kids in the restaurant and the don't need to here it. read more

Mediocre food. Neither good nor awful. The coleslaw is a joke, but the fried fish is good. The French fries are pretty gross because of a caked batter of some sorts. The staff is friendly but it's clear that the establishment caters to the elderly and their food interests. Nothing new and modern, everything traditional, including the decor. The Satuit is a local, quaint restaurant near hte waterfront with the best pizza! They also have amenu that is so extensive, anyone can eat there. It's always bustling, especially during baseball season, but the longest I've waited is 15 minutes for a table. This restaurant is so off the beaten path that it feels like a secret club. Ok, maybe that's going a little far because that just conjured images of the Grand Poobah and there is no secret handshake either. Anyway, good, cheap, simple eats. read more

We went last Saturday night, party of 7. They seated us in a timely fashion, not super long, the place was v. busy. The waitress, I don't know her name, was just awesome. She took all our requests for subs in stride. She got them to turn the fans down immediately, I was v. impressed. The food was delish. I had the baked stuffed scallops, they were fresh and very lightly cooked. Loved the onion rings, french fries. Others had fish and my kids had the lobster rolls and clam chowder. Everyone was very happy with their dinners. I found the other patrons to be v. friendly, I know it's locals, but I didn't feel uncomfortable. I'm looking forward to going again! read more

Satuit Tavern is one of my favorite restaurants in Scituate, both for the awesome food and the great service. I come here many times during the summer, and I crave it throughout the year! Things I love: - The pizza is SPECTACULAR. They're individually sized, South Shore-style bar pizzas, and they are absolutely delicious. Crunchy crust, piping hot cheese, tasty sauce, and a variety of toppings to choose from. I typically order a 2-topping pizza with mushrooms and onions, and I ask for a side of buffalo sauce for dipping. I've also ordered the BBQ chicken pizza (without chicken), and it's excellent. Plus, the value can't be beat--you'll pay around $8 for a pizza, and $10 for a pizza with a side house or caesar salad! - The rolls. These are the same classic heat-and-serve restaurant rolls you'll find at Legal's and other places, but what can I say? I just love them. They always arrive quickly and hot out of the oven. - The marinated grilled jumbo shrimp. This is one of my all-time favorite shrimp dishes. The marinade is so tasty, and the shrimp are char-grilled to perfection. Sometimes I get this as an entree with sides, and sometimes I get the shrimp over a house or caesar salad. A bit pricey at $15, but worth it! - The fried seafood. I've had the fried smelts, clams, oysters, and shrimp, and everything is lightly battered and delicious. The fried seafood really exceeds expectations, considering fried seafood isn't the restaurant's primary focus. - The clam chowder. It's a tad thicker than I usually prefer, but chock full of clams. They also sometimes have seafood chowder as a special, and it's great! I recommend adding some tabasco sauce to both as an extra kick. - The service. I see that some other reviewers are complaining about the service, but I've had excellent experiences with the waitstaff at Satuit. I did have an unfortunate experience once when I tried to order a beer. The waitress just blinked at me and said "Beer?" I said yes...and repeated my order. She said "I'm sorry, you look like you're twelve." I showed her my ID and we all laughed it off, but it was a tad impolite. Things that could use improvement: - I would really love it if Satuit had baked potatoes on their menu. They usually have some type of red skin potatoes as a side option, but I always want a real baked potato with my meal. - The beer selection could be expanded. I'd love to see some local IPAs on draft, and more diverse summer beer options than Sam Summer. - I don't love the caesar dressing. I still get it sometimes, but it's a bit too much like ranch dressing for my taste. If you order blue cheese dressing, they bring Ken's on the side, which is great! - The shrimp scampi is okay, but not terribly flavorful. - I've called for takeout before, and the phone just keeps ringing and ringing. I think they take it off the hook sometimes if they're busy. - On a more personal note, a few years ago, my boyfriend and I asked the owner if he would donate a Satuit Tavern gift certificate as a prize for an annual charity fishing tournament that we organize. He responded that they only donate for charity events taking place in Scituate. We told him that the event takes place throughout the South Shore, but the home base is at Belsan's Bait & Tackle in Scituate. He stuttered a bit, then just said no. I was very surprised and disappointed that he wouldn't support a local charity event, especially considering how often we visit the restaurant. Also, as far as I can tell, the business is thriving. But, ultimately, it's not going to stop me from going there to eat. All in all, I would highly recommend Satuit Tavern for a delicious and fun dining experience! read more

We, Greegan & Greegan, went here based on Yelp review scores and comments. Very disappointing. We ordered Clam chowder(x2) and were told it was made "in house". It had the classic "fresh from a bag" consistency and flavor. Not what we were expecting, or obviously hoping for, from "homemade" chowder. We then ordered their Fisherman's Platter, for splitting. Food came out, very hot, but batter was heavy, a little over cooked and had the telltale 'old grease' tendencies. I ate two scallops, and as it turned out, they were the only two on the plate. Two scallops? Really? The portion of fish was more plentiful, but when my partner (in crime) asked about the flavor, I could only describe it as "gray". The fish's meat was sort of mushy. Def disappointing. The service was prompt and friendly. I wish our review was more positive, as we were anticipating a meal, worthy of the high ratings..but because of the miles between those ratings and our taste buds', this needed to be shared. read more

The fact that this place gets 4 stars out of 30+ reviews makes me question yelp. The good: Our waitress was extremely nice and attentive. The chowder was good. The bad: Where to start? The beer selection is virtually non-existant, but whatever, if the food is good, that's a minor detail. The menu is completely uninspired. Fried seafood, Stuffed seafood, some apps, some pizza, and that's about it. How is it that a seafood restaurant in scituate harbor can have only fried and stuffed seafood and get reviews this good? We got several seafood dishes around the table to sample a little of everything. The stuff seafood and lazy man lobster was a mess of not-the-freshest tasting seafood coated in a buttery seafood stuffing. The fried seafood came out lukewarm. Nothing really tasted fresh. The rolls: are they pre-frozen? I think the corn that came with the lobster may have been canned. And to top it off, I'm writing this at 1 am, because I have been sick as a dog since dinner. Maybe their non-seafood items are better? But I'm skeptical about the quality of the rest of the food if it seems that sub-par ingredients seem to be used in half their menu. C'mon yelp. People should demand better than this. A moderately priced restaurant should be better than this. I doubt we'll be back. read more
