I have been extremely hesitant to go out during COVID. However, I'm much more productive when working at a coffee shop than at my home office, so I decided to return to Schmooze after not being here since the pandemic started. I am blown away! Service was quick, the tables are well spaced on the patio (I did not go inside so I cannot attest to that), and the new app allows you to order service to your table without having to wait in line to order or even go inside! Quite possibly the best workspace in Phx, Schmooze coffee shop is the real deal. There are tons of indoors and outdoor seating. On a Friday afternoon in January, most are filled! The inside of the coffee shop is unique. Each table has a swivel chair and light above it. The outdoor patio is courtyard esque with plants and fountains. Came to this cute little coffee shop today with my boyfriend. We each got photos printed in our lattes. This is a great space to work both indoors and outdoors. They offer free WiFi and allow you to rent meeting rooms. They offer some sandwiches, salads, and baked goods. I did not try any but everything looked and smelled great! Chef Tony Hamati is the owner at Schmooze. He's a greedy, off putting, misleading, overcharging, rude, sellout. He falsely boasts how unique his restaurant is being one of the only co-working breakfast environments in Old Town however this is only the case for the days of the week that is most convenient for his personal agenda. Over the weekends, Tony stands outside the Schmooze gate's like a prison guard to ensure no guest of his average / overpriced breakfast bring in their laptop or bag. He rudely informs you about it himself before you even put your name in if you happen to have a backpack on. Imagine if someone just had a Diabetes insulin backpack on...he would make an extra fool of himself. Tony knows his breakfast offerings are average overpriced omelettes that are nothing too special. So obviously his personal agenda is to get the Oldtown tourists out of the door as quickly as possible over the weekend to get the most profit. I wouldn't have an issue with this business model if he wasn't priding his website/restaurant/public videos over being a unique co-working space. I have had the omelette enough times to know its quality is nothing memorable and I find much more flavor in Olive & Ivy's breakfast across the street. Tony's workers are frequently slightly rude and in a bad mood (which I wrote in a review a few months ago), likely because they are working for him and his insane rules. Not to mention no free refills on coffees here. Tony himself wrote his own biography on Schmooze's website and the following excerpt is taken exactly from his own words.... "Schmooze is unlike any concept he has been a part of before. Schmooze opened in 2018 by Launch Real Estate Founder and CEO John Vatistas. John wanted a co-working space that he could enjoy every day. Schmooze was to be a place where his agents could come to collaborate and "schmooze" clients to seal the deal, hence where the restaurant got its name. Tony was originally brought on to consult for the restaurant and was quickly brought on as a partner. With such a strong passion for the restaurant, Tony took over full ownership at the end of 2021." Until changes are made, stay away from Tony and Schmooze and instead make the drive out to Matt's Big Breakfast where you can find excellent food, excellent prices, and the nicest staff. Hopefully Tony removes his excerpt from his website boasting about the work space and instead maybe writes a disclaimer that it's not always a workspace. I can go to any other breakfast place in Old Town over the weekend that is crowded and pull my laptop out....but only Tony's advertised workspace breakfast spot will have an issue with it Nice ambiance and a nice working space is what this place has going for it. Horribly managed with little regard to customer service, evidently. Maybe put a big sign up in front about your weekend laptop rules Tony as I see others have said the same. You can find YouTube videos of this guy boasting how Schmooze is the perfect small business of Old Town support the locals yet being an Old Town resident myself, I can see he actually clearly prioritizes the tourists from out of town. Don't trust people's words....especially when they go out of their way to represent their business as something uniquely specific as he did. I LOVE the fact that after writing this review is see 5 OTHER 1 star reviews posted in the last hour!!! Tony is a sellout, lying, con artist. I likely would have an easier time bringing in my laptop bag to one of the most exclusive restaurants in Las Vegas like 'Delilah' at the Wynn Hotel than I would at this phony front. read more

This place is so cool! So trendy which a lot of work space. They have single tables and then large tables for a group. There are rooms on either end of the building that are closed workspaces. One side has single rooms and the other side are larger for more people. The closed rooms do cost money per hour so you have to keep that in mind. They have great decorations. Their closed single rooms look like phone booths! The power outlets are hanging from the ceiling from a desk lamp arm. Got to give it to them with creativity. :D Employees are great. Really helpful. Coffee was really good. You can get stuff that's not on the menu as well. Just ask them what you want and I bet they could make it for you. Prices are compatible with all of the other coffee places so you won't be overpaying. Super cool place, you guys should definitely come and check it out! read more

I HATE that I'm giving Schmooze such a low rating because I actually really enjoy the place. The food is great, the staff members are all very friendly and helpful. Even the facility is very modern, sleek and artsy. The problem is that it's always nearly impossible to get a seat inside because of the company's policies. Schmooze allows people to come in, buy a single drink (or sometimes nothing at all), and then just hog one of the few available tables for hours on end. The last 4 or 5 times I'd gone there single patrons were sitting at tables meant for four and they weren't even eating or drinking anything, just sitting around on their laptops while nearby couches sit empty. It forces paying customers to have to sit outside and eat their lunches in 118' F degree temperatures. I'm all for allowing everybody to have a nice, leisurely dining experience but c'mon already. This COVID stuff is already making things hard enough everyone all around, not just patrons but for all the small businesses trying to stay afloat, too. This ought to be a no-brainer for decent, rational adults; come in, have your lunch, move along so the next person can do the same -- everybody wins...including Schmooze. But unfortunately, we have to deal with self-centered millennials who don't seem to understand other people with needs actually exist. Schmooze, I love you guys. I would love to continue supporting you - you're amazing! But please, for all of us, don't allow a bunch of deadbeats to keep taking advantage like they continue to do. Again, you deserve 5 stars, but you're allowing people who don't actually care about your success to drag your rating down. read more

First time here and I absolutely loved it! It's hard to find coffee spots that encourage a quiet and professional environment, but this place has mastered it! Great for studying, meeting coworkers or just catching up. Plenty of space to sit and a ton of outlets (which is very important)! You can even reserve your own space for meetings or if you just need to focus without distractions. Plus...the coffee and avocado toast is amazing!! read more

The lovely patio surrounded by plants at this place drew me in. I ordered a lavender latte and caprese avocado toast. The barista was super friendly and hospitable. When I went to pick up my order I saw that my latte was iced and I had ordered a hot latte. The barista apologized and admitted that it was her mistake and made me a hot drink. She offered me the iced one also since it was just going to waste anyway. She was very friendly and happy to fix her mistake. The busy patio was nicely spread out with plenty of seating. The latte was one of the best and the barista even came out and asked how it was. The avocado toast was amazing and more than toast. It was a full caprese salad on toast. The seasoning was perfect and the greens were fresh. I'm so impressed by the food and customer service at this charming place. When I'm in Scottsdale I will visit again for sure! read more

Wow, I'm currently writing this as the owner prowls around looking for people with laptops to scold. We came here and were seated, immediately ordered, and took our laptops out as we waited for food. The owner came by and repeatedly asked us to move if we were going to work as his place was busy (no line in sight, with many empty tables). At this point, we hadn't even gotten our food yet. There's a nice way of asking, and this certainly wasn't it. I just wanted to eat and the owner made me cry before I'd even gotten a chance. The off putting part is really no human interaction. We had to seat ourselves and place our own order. The person who brought out the food was a nice food runner. There is no one to check to see if the food you ordered came out okay. Also, I'm not sure why the tip is the same as tipping a server who takes your order and checks in with you. Customer service is terrible. I frequently visit Schmooze on the weekends to grab coffee and breakfast while I get some work done on my laptop. I have always had a positive experience with the waitstaff, table busters, and bartenders, but have had extremely uncomfortable interactions with the owner/manager several times now. I was "greeted" out front by the owner/manager and was told I would have to wait until my entire party arrives to be seated - understood, this policy is common in Old Town. My friends were running late so I asked if I could at least go inside, grab a coffee, and do some work on my laptop while I waited. I do this all the time here!!! To my dismay, I was told "We aren't doing laptops today. We are super busy" yet, I scanned the patio and saw 6-8 wide open tables...Yeah dude, super slammed... I assured him I would just grab coffee. As I walked inside, I saw at minimum 6 additional open tables AND two Males on their laptops. While it's one thing to enforce policies, it's another to do so inconsistently. Moreover, it's a completely unnecessary to be blunt and rude to people who are just trying to support your business. He spoke to me like I was such an inconvenience to his day. I will not be returning here ever again. Save yourself the public humiliation. The patio is a very crowded and intimate setting and several patrons watched this whole interaction go down. I walked around the corner to Herb Box where I had a inviting, positive, and relaxing experience. I recommend you do the same. read more
