My favorite local sushi place. Walking through the door, we are greeted by everyone including the sushi chef. The fish is fresh, not too pricey and the korean BBQ is delicious. The service is exceptional even when they are busy. The restaurant is clean and the decor is modest. We eat here at least 1-2 times a week. read more

The site of so many pages of rolls had me worried as I tend to get only nigiri but the nigiri was good! Service was a bit slow at times as the place was packed. It was 7pm on a Friday night after all - if a restaurant is not busy then, you should leave! But if flagged down and asked, server was responsive. I came here for lunch today and thought it was just OK. It actually seemed as if they copied a lot of roll ideas from TGI's in Campbell... but they weren't nearly as good. I thought the spaghetti noodles in the miso soup was odd and the rolls seemed small for their prices (then again, I may be biased by my love of TGI's). Service was really good though. This place is ok. It's close to where I live, so when I want some sushi its convenient. Minus 2 stars because their hours are not convenient...I haven't checked if its just the hours yelp has listed or if its also on their website, but its annoying. Lately every time I try to go there/order they say they are closed even though they are listed as open. So yeah, bleh! read more

This is a decent sushi place. Service was pretty fast and I had nothing to complain about with the food, but it wasn't amazing either. The saba that comes with the dinner entree is HUGE. For some reason I was expecting it to be half that size. Ended up having to take it home. I probably should have just stuck with a roll. Might come back and order something different. read more

Unfortunately the second time around was a less than desirable experience due to the horrible server we had. Just had lunch there. Have not been there in about 5 years. Now I remember why. The quality of the fish is just not up to par. The tuna has that "fresh out of the vacuum sealed plastic bag" taste that I so dread in Sushi. All the fish lacked full flavor. This is my local sushi place that I have been going to for years. It may not be the coolest and trendiest as it is located in a strip mall; however, the restaurant is always immaculate, the servers are always gracious, and the food has always been delicious and very high quality. The sushi grade fish is exceptional. And, though the servings may be smaller, there are usually more of them. Try the $22 three piece dinner! Love coming here- for lunch and dinner. Service is always quick. My fav- volcano salmon roll, friends roll and the gyoza. Mackeral and salmon are also good choices. I always ask for no avocado in my rolls ( allergy) and they accommodate all the time. Some places charge you extra ( for subbing with cucumber), but they never have. read more

I got a scallop nigiri and the scallops were nice and cold. I would have done four starts but they got three since when I was ordering, I said one roll and the waitress grabbed the menu and walked away. I said I wasn't done ordering yet and she said okay and continued to walk away. She then came back and Took the rest of my order. Another waitress a few minutes later and asked if I had ordered. The people next to me ordered after me and got their food before me. Also everyone else got miso soup but I didn't. The table was sticky as well. We eat here often. The fish is always fresh! We went back to our old sushi places and realized how fresh the fish is at Shima. Try the shima roll, delish! The staff is super friendly! It's a small place so I wouldn't bring a big crowd, but they do have two large tables that can accommodate 6-8 people. read more

Anytime I find excellent fresh Sushi next to a Lucky's, it's 5 stars for guts alone. The Hamachi might as well been Toro the way it delicately melted in my mouth. The next surprise was Tai (Red Snapper), the way it was cut took me back to someone's forgotten village... elegant preparation. Very disappointed with this restaurant because there were flies all over the table, sat on the salad first and then on the sashimi plate. It is such a health hazard when you are eating raw fish. Owner John, Sushi Chef serves the freshest hamachi sushi I have tasted in ages...their proportions are beyond the standard overrated sushi restaurants. Andy, also a sushi wiz is also awesome.
