Called in tonight to place a takeout order. I live nearby and eat on Second Street a lot, including here in the past. First call got answered and then immediately hung up on. Called back a few minutes later and asked to place a takeout order, which I've done before. The person on the phone was a bit short and said they weren't doing takeout because there was a two-hour wait. What was confusing is that online ordering was still open, and when I walked by shortly after, the restaurant was only about 3/4 full with some open tables and nobody was waiting to be seated. I prefer calling so I can get a more accurate ETA, since apps are usually just estimates, but it felt like they just didn't want to take the order. Stopped by to have lunch at Simmzys because they used to have this amazing charred caesar salad with shrimp. They took that off the menu so we split the chicken salad with walnuts and apples. All of the toppings were fresh and flavorful. The chicken tortilla soup and Baja fish taco were good but not the best you've ever had. Service is extremely slow and no one comes to greet you or seat you at the door when you arrive. Our waiter wasn't attentive, we had to get up and go to the bar to ask for an alternative salad dressing option and the restaurant wasn't crowded at all. I rarely leave negative reviews, but our experiences with Bella V. have been consistently disappointing. Every time she's our server, we end up waiting forever just to get basic service. She rarely checks on the table, seems uninterested in helping, and communicates with one-word answers that come across as rude and dismissive. Our food has arrived cold multiple times when she's been our server, and we often have to flag someone else down because she disappears for long stretches. Hospitality requires attentiveness and a welcoming attitude, and unfortunately, we experienced neither. We've had much better service from other staff, but whenever Bella is our server, the experience is consistently poor. I hope management addresses this because it's enough to make us reconsider coming back. read more

The Hot Tea was a nice drink to have. Started with an order of 15-minute Wings. For lunch, I ordered the Billionaire Burger, with American Wagyu 5-year-old Beef, with Bacon. I wish they would've offered some chili flakes and parm but the flavor was excellent. Flavorful juicy roasted tomatoes were the saving grace. The crust was a little on the denser, chewy side. Maybe it wasn't like a fresh dough. We didn't mind it though as it was more of like a flatbread. The garlic, smoked cheese, fresh basil and roasted tomatoes made up for its flaws. Yeah don't accidentally leave anything here. They will let their employees steal your things. Left my designer sunglasses here after dinner one night (I only forgot them because our server gave me and my friend a Dogz hat that we ended up putting on and wearing to the next bar) love her for that Savannah 10/10. Anyways, I called after realizing I didn't have them in my purse. They said they couldn't find them, that was cool I was willing to take the L on them because obviously my fault I left them there somebody could've walked by and swiped them from the table. 5 minutes later one of their employees calls me back and said they had them there, described them to me, and confirmed those were them. Couldn't grab them that day because I was out with my daughter and her friend, I sent my husband to grab them after work, all of a sudden they're not there anymore. Apparently they stuck them in their "lost and found" and they disappeared, and they're not liable for any loss. Honestly they're such losers for that and I should file a police report just for the principle of it all. They went out of their way to call ME to tell ME they had my property just for someone, who likely works there, to take my stuff. read more

Nice spot for a casual dinner. Went with a large party to this spot with a reservation on a Saturday night. Great: Bacon Date pizza - the marriage of bacon and dates makes a very nice sweet and salty flavor. The pizza is very rich and has a creamy sauce. A bit tough on the crust. Nevertheless, high marks! Grown up chicken fingers - the most tender tenders I've had from a restaurant. They're made of chicken thighs which adds juiciness. The sauce it comes with is also very good. Wonderfully executed. Carne asada fries - the fries here are shoestring, and that helps prevent them from getting soggy even when coated with all the toppings in this dish. Good: Nachos with chicken - Thick style tortilla chips. Similar to the asada fries and well put together, but I would get the fries over the nachos, which is why I put this in a slightly lower tier. Chicken was also a little dry. Still very solid! I had a house hazy IPA to accompany the food, which was delicious. The staff accommodated our large party very well, and even helped celebrate an engagement in our party. Big ups to the service! read more

I have been going to Simmzy's for a long time. First Manhattan Beach a couple of times, and for the past 7-8 years here at home in Long Beach. It started out as a place I enjoyed visiting. Some nice takes on classic American staples in a fun looking place. It is a classic tale of a restaurant just trying less and less each visit. The staff are poorly trained. If you are having to ask for the cutlery needed for what you have ordered (I am not a neanderthal who thinks a fork is all you need) it is a giveaway on this. ps I needed a normal knife not a massive steak knife for what I had ordered. When they chose to come and check in with you seems more to do with them being bored than them actually having a reason to do so. More importantly though, the food is getting worse and worse. This weekend my son wanted to go. Gone are the fun pixisticks we used to play with while waiting. Anyway we both ordered off their special Sunday brunch menu. I had the most disappointing chilaquiles I have ever eaten. So over sauced it was basically a bowl of spicy green vinegar. While the eggs and carnitas were ok (carnitas dry as a bone) I couldn't eat any of the chips underneath and left hungry. Two more things to share: 1. There is a review with my first name and Initial (Ian J) from Sunday, the day I was in there that states "Very good food and atmosphere plus there are tvs for sports watching so I recommend it." Well that isn't me but it sounds like they are somehow generating false reviews for those paying through the Sunday App? The likelihood of two Ian Js in there on Sunday (there were no people in there at all on a busy Sunday afternoon on Second Street)? 2. Hello, I live in the area and Simmzys is by far my favorite spot. I rave about it to all the time to my friends and family and go there constantly. Especially the bar area with friends and my significant other. Unfortunately yesterday (10/04) we were at the bar around 5-6pm and it was a miserable experience. It was busy but it's been really busy before and it was always fun and the crew generically awesome. But yesterday the crew were what seemed like at each other throats. Visually upset and flustered and it was severely affecting the mood and service. It was uncomfortable and we felt bad even asking for basics like napkins. The bill also turned out to be wrong which never got fixed. I got overcharged. I actually intended to stay longer and spend more but it was so uncomfortable seeing the crew huff and puff and throw tantrums that we just couldn't wait to get out. I was walking around second Street waiting for this to open, one of the servers (Connor) had come out and greeted me and asked if I had any questions about the menu. Super friendly and nice and recommended the Chilaquiles. I was so excited to come back and try the Chilaquiles since the remodel. Having recently moved back to Long Beach from Hawaii, I had been here when my daughter was born, and that was 28 years ago lol Came back at 10 & a group of us walked in only to have the reaction of someone (server, manager?) behind the bar put their head down on the bar & shake their head, obviously in reaction to their 1st customers walking thru the door. Really? great way to greet us. The server I had spoken to before was very friendly and waved us all in. Try to sit in HIS section!!! Having worked in restaurants and managed them for over 15 years, you can't explain that reaction as anything but what it was. I guess I will remember that in my tip & noted in my review. Normally I don't like to review customer service because everybody has their days however, it was just not welcoming and we all felt like we were intruding on their day. I sat out on the patio with my dog. It was a gorgeous Sunday. Wasn't crowded, at least not until later I've heard. I was alone on the patio and it was awesome. I could people watch and relax with my dog and enjoy my meal. Holly was my server, and he was friendly, attentive, & accommodating, but did not hover over me during my meal. Chilaquiles had had braised short ribs, a lime cilantro sauce, over medium eggs! Loved it. Super tasty, just enough spice but not too hot. I forget that Chilaquiles are served with over easy eggs. Normally I would ask for them to be over hard but these were perfect. My only downgrade is the dish was served just on the warm side of cold.
