Nice decent coffee shop. Not as much variety as starbucks but they drew a little leaf on my latte. Latte was fairly good.

I went to Simple Pleasures Cafe this afternoon to hear my friend's jazz band play. I hadn't been to this cafe before and I am glad that I went today. Its a cozy and friendly place. There is lots of inside and outside seating. They have a lovely Parklet and sidewalk tables with comfortable chairs, a view of the ocean down the street and garden boxes:) Lovely! There are many lovely treats available....they are abundant and beautifully displayed. The staff was warm and attentive in a genuine way. Lovely teas, coffee drinks and beers on tap. This place has an old SF feel to it. It was so nice to find and experience this place. My friends jazz band played mellow arrangements of jazz standards, which added to the relaxation factor being offered. We left restored and a little inspired. Simple Pleasures will host their band again on Sunday, Oct 23. I imagine we will go back for some more relaxation. read more

Great neighborhood cafe! I love this place - the atmosphere is relaxed, food is good and the coffee is great. I go here to meet friends, to read a book or to enjoy a bit of sunshine if I can find a table outside. Parking is super easy. just wanted to throw my hat into the ring on this place - i love this cafe, i moved to the Richmond as a last resort and did NOT expect to like it - but fortunately i ended up on 36th and Balboa and there's a whole little neighborhood out here! movie theatre, market, and - Simple Pleasures. i come here every day and i love the laid back vibe, i often spend the afternoon doing design work while drinking coffee at the counter and have been treated oh-so-well by nearly every employee... yes i did say nearly every employee - there is one employee who seems to have a real stick up his ass, but his professional conduct is always impeccable - so maybe he just doesnt like me. the only other reason this place doesnt get 5 straight stars is that their espresso drinks are inconsistent. i'll admit that i've become a little spoiled what with Blue Bottle and Philz etc but some of the folks here just don't seem to know the finer points of espresso drinks. so if you want a perfect latte this might not be your spot. but if you're looking for a super-comfy, laid back kinda place with good food and beer this is the spot - also open at 6am! read more

I just come here to get the plain REGULAR HOUSE COFFEE and it is hands down the best. They roast their own beans next door. Its really good, i'm addicted to their coffee. Now when i try other people's coffee it tastes like crap. read more

Love the atmosphere and the interior, but my cappuccino was miserable.

I try not to tell too many people about this place, but hey, we're all honest here on yelp, right? I like the fact that it isn't too crowded and the baristas know me. But, you can come to my neighborhood and enjoy great coffee, great service, and comfy places to hang with your friends and chat. Be forewarned that on weekdays the place is sometimes overrun with, um, eccentric folks. Also, they close a little early for me on weekends. read more

This is a hidden little neighborhood gem I am hoping too many people don''t discover. I went in for the first time last night for a coffee and was pleasantly surprised by the ambiance. It feels like a little cafe up in the Sierra Foothills. They had live music and the duo that were performing were really good. There is plenty of comfortable seating and the atmosphere is warm and cozy. My coffee drink was prepared beautifully. I didn't have any food but checked out the selections in the display cases and they all looked fabulous. The menu is very nice and the prices are reasonable. I definitely will be returning to Simple Pleasures real soon. What a great find. read more

Good coffee and friendly staff. They move at the speed of stoned, but hey you're not in the financial district, relax it will be okay. I'm working on my patience too. I do wish they would stock their condiments bar diligently. They always seems to be out of at least one essential coffee item (lids, Splenda, napkins, milk, ect). Simple Pleasures Cafe is a groovy little spot with colorful art and a relaxed feel. There was a local band playing slow blues and people reading, on their laptops or having drinks at the bar. Its a little cozy, but we managed to get a seat at the back and play cards. The Guiness Espresso and Quiche I had were tasty. read more

Alright, I might have been a little too harsh on this place. It's still very cliquish and unwelcoming, but the coffee is quite good...sometimes. They roast their own beans at a place next door, and depending on who does the roasting it either turns out really good or sorta bad. Some of the employees seem friendlier than they used to. They also have live music rather often, and I'll admit, chilling out here on a Saturday afternoon with a beer (they have a small but good selection), a sandwich, and some live jazz, is always an enjoyable experience. read more

House coffee is roasted really dark and brewed pitch black. Which is good if thats the way you like your coffee. Food is average for a coffeeshop. Beer on tap was a surprise. Atmosphere is relaxed and has the coffee shop vibe you would expect. There are a few board games stacked up and couches to relax on. Staff was nice as well. read more

I love simple pleasures. The bagels there with cream cheese and vegetables are so good. It is one of my favorite foods but they have recently started skimping out on the vegetable so just make sure to ask for a lot if you are like me and love lots of stuff on your bagel. The drinks there are good but the pastries are not top notch. I love the setting in the cafe. The couches are super comfortable. I hate that the cafe lets people smoke outside though. It ruins the ambience. I love to sit next to the window but i hate to choke on the cigarette smoke that floats in through the window and door. The people who work there are cool though. read more

I love this cafe! When I lived in Outer Richmond, it was my favorite spot to go for breakfast, for lunch, for coffee, for a place to sit around and browse the internet when comcast was being a douche (lol) - the people are great, the ambiance is relaxed, there's always a place to sit, and it's always such a comfortable place to hang out with friends. Simple Pleasures Cafe is the ideal spot to get away from all your worries and have an ice cold beer on the porch. Simple Pleasures have great food, pastries, drinks, and live music. Although it may sound great, some art work there I find grossly inappropriate. And their bathroom is like a bathroom you would find at a gas station. There is graffiti everywhere, some pipes go into the bathroom making hard to move around, and the toilet, don't even get me started. Aside from that, the employees/cashiers would rip you off by charging you more than the given price, and even forgetting your food occasionally. The cafe is however kid-friendly, so have your kids play a board game while you enjoy a nice cold beer. Overall, Simple Pleasures Cafe is a nice place to be if you have free time. read more

I've been here many times, often against my better judgment. The place is usually pretty dirty (which I normally don't care about but it stood out as especially bad here). If you order a simple drink (cappuccino is not quantum physics),expect to stand around forever, waiting. Their sandwiches are surprisingly good and fresh but they close their "kitchen" early and they are never filling. But the thing I hate most about this place is the asshole attitudes of the staff. When I was in high school and came here for lunch, I assumed it was because they didn't like all us high school kids. But now that I'm long out of high school, I still get the shitty treatment. Why? Maybe because I bathe regularly and don't believe that communism is the shit. Perhaps it's because I'm not high when I order or because I don't drive a prius covered in bumper stickers. i really wanna give this place a higher rating. i mean i really really REALLY do...but...*sigh* i cannot. first the good news, i live in the richmond district and have for most of my sf life (7 years and counting). and i love my neighborhood. so i feel like im betraying my hood if i dis this place, and so many of my dearest friends love this spot. but the truth, i must tell. so, it is true what they say, the coffee is simply divine, its a 5 min. walk from my front door and they have jalapeno bagels which i love. they also have the bombest veggie bagel combo plate in the 94121. ok, here's the bad news, the service is so bad its unreal. and when i say bad service im only judging the pretentiousness and sliminess (is that a word?) of a few of the baristas. im sorry, but how are you gonna have me waiting for my bagel while you flirt with chicks?! AT 645 IN THE MORNIN. i wanna blurt out " excuse me sucka but i thought you worked here! " although i will continue to go here every now and again, because i do enjoy the witty banter with the old guys that are in there at 645 a.m when i stop in on my way to work, i just get all scowly when i think of the lameos that work there. and that aint tight. read more

This is my first pit stop in the morning on the way to check the surf. It's kinda my routine to wake me up and get myself moving and interacting with the world. Not brewed, but hot water poured over freshly ground beans so never bitter. They make a good sandwich to. It seems like they have a lot of locals that feel the same since I see the same people there everyday and it nice when someone knows what you want and hands it to you before you order. I wish they had a line for just plain old coffee drinkers to speed things along though when people are ordering their fancy drinks and maybe some better couches. I would hang out and work there, but when you sit in the couches you sink almost to the floor. I have hit all the mom and pop coffee houses in the outer Richmond and this one is the best. Just don't be in a hurry because when the people behind the counter get to talking to one another they sometimes forget that they are at work. read more
