Ordered this for a quick poolside lunch after I was craving some authentic Lebanese (not that I think this is a Lebanese spot but the pics looked promising!). Tabbouleh and kafta shawarma were very good! Chicken kabobs a little dry but seasoned well. The little borek and rakakat was not was I expected, did not love those. Garlic could have been a bit more potent, hummus needed a little more lemon; but overall was pretty good.

Late night meal after a showing. I thought Skewer was great. Lots of good restaurants around but skewer hits the spot. Lots of your classic Mediterranean plates and all are freshly grilled [[HIGHLIGHT]]There is seating outside but only like two tables.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Parking: it's hollywood so depending on when you go, it may be tough

After standing in line one hour for rush tickets for Harry Potter and the Cursed Child at the Pantages, we had some time to kill before the show so we decided to grab dinner at Skewer. The restaurant itself is small with only countertop/bar seating along the edge of the restaurant, but they also set up some chairs and tables outside in front of the restaurant that our party of 5 took advantage of. The food was grilled to order and we ordered several things to share. Portions were generous and all the meats were delicious, though prices are on the higher side. The sides and dips were excellent as well. It did take some time for the food to come out since it takes time to prepare, so be aware of that. Probably the only thing that made me knock down a star is that we were all very desperate to use the restroom after taking public transit to LA, so we asked upon entering the restaurant even before we ordered if there was a restroom we could use. The lady up front said yes, no problem, and we proceeded to use the restroom, but when it came my turn to use the restroom when I exited the older female employee very emphatically said "ONLY" and pointed to the sign saying "Employees Only." I explained to her that the other employee had said it was okay plus we spent over $100 at their establishment but the whole experience really made me feel terrible. Aside from that incident, the service was actually very friendly and welcoming, and the lady upfront spoke several languages including fairly good Spanish to boot. Overall, would still recommend this tasty Lebanese place in Hollywood.

I have had A LOT of Mediterranean food and this is DEFINITELY the best I've had!! The service is outstanding! When asked when they recommend they didn't disappoint! The food is sooo fresh they don't cook it until you order. The place is a tiny hole in the wall but the flavors and service makes up for the size. We sat there and watched it go from nobody in there but us to a line out the door in less than 30 minutes! And they're open until the wee hours of the morning! This has to be a must place to go in whether it's early in the morning or late in the evening or late late night eats!

If there is a good skewer, I will be there to try it. We were in the area to visit Funko Pop and wanted something good to eat after. Skewer had such good reviews, this became a must-stop. The food here is SO INCREDIBLY DELICIOUS. We devoured everything we ordered and even added more on to-go. Get the lamb - tender, flavorful, and oh-so tasty. Ordered the lamb plate with the hummus and tabbouleh. Perfect combination. Only thing that could've made it better would be some roasted tomatoes. Delish. They make everything fresh to order, so it can be a bit of a wait to get your food. But it's worth it! Great prices. Open late. Both indoor and outdoor seating. 100% will return when back in the area.

Stopped by for a quick meal after catching a show at Avalon and enjoyed a yummy meal! The person at the counter helping me was friendly and welcoming when I walked in. He offered some recommendations as I was looking at the menu. I settled on the sandwich with filet mignon cubes and a side of fries with a coke. My food was made to order and came out in about 10 minutes. There's some seating on the side to enjoy your meal or you can take it to go. The food is cooked to order so your food is always fresh here. I appreciate that they are open late so you can come here after events at the various venues nearby. If you are looking for a good meal and want Mediterranean, come check out Skewer!

Fresh Tabouleh! Very bright and lemony! Yum!

Went here on Friday night and can positively say that the food is fresh and very tasty! Didn't have to wait long to be served. The French fries were steaming hot and fresh out of the fryer, and the beef kafta was nicely seasoned and very delicious. The tabouleh salad was bright, zesty, and full of lemony good flavor. There are a few small tables outside and the weather was nice. Sitting on Hollywood Blvd, this is a prime spot for people watching, and you get to see all sorts pass by as you eat. The only thing I couldn't stand was the super loud, techno club music they were playing from the restaurant. It was very annoying and definitely not something that anyone would want to listen to while eating. Very fast paced and almost anxiety inducing, like, "Eat faster! Don't even chew! Just swallow everything whole and then dance until you go into cardiac arrest" kind of vibes. Not chill one bit. Other than that, the food was great! Although next time we may opt to have it delivered.

I had the chicken kebab wrap tonight, and for me personally it was the best tasting chicken kabab I've had in LA. The chicken was juicy and every component inside tasted so fresh. I assume the workers there were the owners and they were so welcoming. If I'm in the area I would love to stop by again.

Amazing service! Compliments to the chefs!!!

Amazing food and service! We had just finished a hike at Griffith and found this hidden gem by pure luck! We loved every bite of our food. We ordered the Kabob plate w two meats. So delicious, fresh and amazingly delicious! The place is small. Don't be discouraged the food is delicious and reminds me of 5 star dinning. The employees greeted us with smiling faces and recommendations. Will definitely come back! Wishing the owners much success.

The place is pretty small and hard to navigate around the seating. The best and our favorite of the three wraps was the tongue wrap. This was seriously outstanding and one of the best I've had. It was juicy, lemony, cooked well and flavorful. After that, things went downhill. The vegetable wrap was greasy, almost slimey, and falling apart. The vegetables were all soggy and there wasn't much flavor. The chicken shawarma panini was the biggest disappointment. This was so salty and had a bad taste like the chicken was rancid. It was dry and just not good at all. On the way out we spoke to the owner and mentioned how salty it was, to which he said he knows about it and people complain about it often. So why isn't there a change? Sadly not a place I would return to

We arrived midday on a Sunday and we're promptly sat, having been given the option for patio or indoor. We chose the patio, and between the clematis, lantana, and olive trees it is a very lovely setting in which to enjoy a meal. We were promptly brought a bottle of cold water and glasses, and our beverage orders were taken. I had a honey lavender latte with oat milk, and my husband had Lebanese coffee (no milk no sugar.) my latte was fragrant, the perfect temperature, and just the right amount of sweet. The Lebanese coffee was smooth, floral without being perfume, and excellent. We started with the falafel and the batata harra. Both absolutely excellent. For our entrees we selected the shakshuka and the Lebanese egg pie. Both were also excellent. Everything was well cooked, well presented, flavorful without being overwhelmed by any component. We took home a baklava tart, because we simply did not have the ability to eat more at the table. It was tender, moist, not too sweet, the pistachio flavor coming through as nutty and grassy, seriously so good! And it's worth noting, this whole restaurant is gluten free. I would not have realised if I had not known ahead of time. The texture of the pita with the shakshuka was exactly what one would expect, as was the bread of the egg pie. The pastry of the tart was flakey and delicious. And having said all of that, the service is what puts it above and beyond. Everyone was warm and pleasant, and seemed to genuinely appreciate the compliments. Staff seemed like they liked their jobs, which for me is always a good sign.

Let's start with the drink....I'm not a fan of anything rose flavored or scented so I wanted to make sure the rose flavor wasn't too strong in the Jallab. Since I was told the rose flavor is pretty prominent, it was suggested I do the Jallab with lemonade. What a perfect selection! I didn't pick up any rose flavor and the drink was so pretty. This is a refreshing alternative if you don't want to go with a soda. I already had my heart set on the appetizers and fortunately the other person was on board with the same choices. For dippers, I always go with a yogurt and cucumber appetizer and the Babaghanouj did not disappoint. These sides came with three pieces of pita bread. Neither side was overly garlicky and paired well with my entree. If you love cheese borek like I do, get you some cheese rolls. My only regret is only getting one. The cheese rolls were perfectly flavored and not overly salty. Now for the entree...I already had my eye on three meats so the waitress said to go with The Your Way Plate, which came with a kafta and tenderloin skewer. I also added a lamb skewer on the side. Both my lamb and tenderloin skewer were cooked medium and they were perfect. Lamb is one of those dishes that can be a hit or miss because if it's not cooked right, it will be chewy - mine was perfect! And, the spices they use to cook the lamb in will have you trying to pick up every last drop of juice with your pieces of meat. No complaints with the kafta either. I chose rice as my side because I love me the carbs. We went on a weekday for lunch and parking was easy enough to find on a side street. The staff was friendly and there was indoor and outdoor seating options. This place gets a yummy in my tummy rating and I will be back sooner rather than later.

My go-to order is the lamb kebab plate with half rice and half cabbage salad. The lamb is always cooked perfectly--tender, juicy, and incredibly flavorful (I usually order it medium well). The rice is delicious, but I especially love the cabbage salad, which is tossed in a bright, refreshing mix of lemon juice, olive oil, and garlic. It's the perfect balance to the rich, savory lamb, and the meal always leaves me feeling satisfied without being overly heavy. The restaurant has very limited indoor seating, so if you can, I'd recommend dining in. This is one of those meals that's best enjoyed fresh and piping hot. I like taking my time cutting the lamb into bite-sized pieces and savoring every bite. If you're planning to order takeout instead, I'd suggest the combo plate with the chicken, tenderloin, and ground beef skewers, also with half rice and half cabbage salad. Those meats are softer and easier to enjoy on the go, especially if you're eating shortly after picking it up. And don't skip the garlic sauce--it is absolutely delicious and takes everything to the next level. Simple, fresh, and consistently well-executed, Skaf's On York has definitely earned a spot as one of my favorite restaurants in Highland Park.

Carousel is hands down the best Mediterranean spot. I've been coming here for years and it never…read moredisappoints. Their arayes are a must -- it's basically like a lahmajun with two pieces pressed together, and it's insanely good. I usually go all in and order the tabbouleh, babaganoush, a pound of lula kebab, and shish kebab. Honestly, if you're with 2+ people (or even just really hungry), ordering by the pound with sides is way better value than getting individual plates. You get more variety and it just feels like the right way to eat here. Every now and then I'll switch it up and get the liver plate -- it comes with tons of greens and onions, and when you wrap everything in their fresh pita, it's incredible. Not an everyday order, but when you're in the mood for it, it hits. If you dine in, the indoor decor is super nice and really gives that authentic Mediterranean vibe. They also play a lot of 90s music, which somehow fits perfectly and adds to the whole experience. I've dined in plenty of times and the service is always solid -- staff is friendly and attentive. Just a heads up, food can take a little longer sometimes, but that's because they're always busy and everything is made fresh, so it's worth the wait. I've also done takeout here more times than I can count -- probably over 100 orders at this point -- which says everything. This is easily one of my go-to spots and I keep coming back for a reason.

The food was okay, nothing extraordinary, but decent. Unfortunately, the service was, without…read moreexaggeration, one of the worst I've ever experienced in my life. From the moment we arrived, the vibe felt off. The host who seated us (who later turned out to also be a server) left us at the table, and no one approached us for about 10 minutes. When a server finally came over, the first thing she said was "Ready? Ready?", no greeting, no welcome, nothing. We were never brought water. I had to ask a busser for it because the server walked past our table multiple times, clearly saw us, and chose to ignore us. The food runner was also rude, he dropped the plates on the table without saying a single word. Throughout the entire meal, no one checked on us. No "How is everything?" No "Do you need anything?" Nothing at all. Meanwhile, we noticed that nearby tables were being greeted, checked on, and treated kindly. When we asked for the check, the server literally threw it on the table without saying a word. The experience was so bad that we decided not to leave a tip; Something we never do, especially since we truly value good service and I personally work in the restaurant industry. I don't know if the treatment had anything to do with how we looked or how we were dressed, but I've never felt so ignored and uncomfortable in a restaurant before. The food may be fine, but the service completely ruins the experience. I would not return or recommend this place.

I can't believe it took me this long to try Open Sesame! I'm a CSULB alumni and walked past this…read morecharming restaurant so many times. So glad I finally got to stop by many years later for dinner! Parking was easy (on a weeknight). Plenty of street parking and many open meters but I can see it being very difficult on weekends. Bake in some time to find parking! There's both indoor and outdoor seating at this location. This inside is cozy and there's a second room for additional seating. I went on a Thursday night and it was slammed. They do not take reservations but they do have a waitlist via toast that you can join while you walk around and wait for your table. Plenty to do and see on 2nd street. We ordered the party platter for 4 people! It was the perfect amount of food with leftovers to take home. Everything was cooked to PERFECTION. Our beef was a textbook medium rare and was so juicy and tender, as was the rest of the meat. The chicken was so moist and flavorful, as was all the shawarma. All meats were seasoned beautifully. The rice underneath was stunning as well and really caught all the juices from the meat on top. The roasted tomatoes, onions, and pickles were the perfect compliments to help freshen up the palette during the meal. The sauces were amazing and there was a clear favorite (the garlic sauce) which was annihilated by all four of us. Service was friendly! It was very packed so it was slow at times but understandably so. They come by and give you orange blossom water for your hands post meal - what a treat! We smelled amazing! NO NOTES FOR OPEN SESAME! I have to come back with more friends! We did have an issue but it was with another patron who had the audacity to yell at my table (while I was in the restroom) for "having too much fun"?!?! This is a public restaurant and it was loud as hell in there because it's tight and everyone talks over each other, not to mention the open kitchen. The energy in the restaurant is exciting and frenetic. If you want a quiet dinner f*cking STAY HOME and leave the streets to those of us who have had a WEEK and want to enjoy a fun dinner with friends. We will be back and we will have even MORE FUN, xoxo.

Ambiance (5/5): Although we didn't sit inside, it was super cute, with classy boho vibes. The restroom was clean and well-decorated (although, not gonna lie, I don't know how I felt about the big mirror facing the toilet). The outside patio area was airy, and although right by the street, I didn't find it unpleasant. Service (3/5): It was just so-so. They sat us down quickly, gave us our menus and checked on us maybe twice. It wasn't super busy, but we had to wait to ask for things like extra plates and water for our dog. Food Overall (5/5): Food was delicious. We got the beef shawarma lunch special and got fries for the side (extra charge) and also the chicken shawarma lunch special with the hummus side. Beef Shawarma (4/5): It had a nice toasty flavor, perhaps from the spices, and the pickled veggies really complemented it. My only complaint was that I wish it had a bit more of the white sauce (maybe adding more hummus would have helped). It was also strangely a bit watery, maybe from the veggies. Overall, it was still a yummy wrap. Chicken Shawarma (5/5): The chicken shawarma tasted more balanced to me overall. I don't recall the meat being dry, although I did also slather it with a bit of hummus. I thoroughly enjoyed this wrap. Fries side (5/5): Their fries are made in house and it tastes so fresh. It was crispy on the outside yet still gooey and moist on the inside. I'm not sure if they make their own ketchup too, as it looked clumpier and tasted really fresh too. The kids gobbled this up. Hummus and pita (5/5): It came with a generous amount of both hummus and pita. The hummus was well flavored and blended, and it really complemented everything on the table. The pocket pita bread was not what I had in mind (I'm used to thicker ones), but the kids really loved it overall. Ice cream (4.5/5): We ordered two scoops from the dessert menu. They were both really thick, creamy and almost chewy like liquidized mochi. It was a very interesting texture but nonetheless a nice tasty treat on a hot day. I much preferred the vanilla bean, as the pistachio tasted and looked rather artificial (and I'm a pistachio ice cream lover). This place had so many to-go orders during the afternoon we were there. I can see why. Food is super fresh and tasty. I think we will be back the next time we are visiting.
