I eat here often with my family. Sonny's has done a good job keeping up with the times and adjusting their menu. Salad bar is good as is the service. I rarely if ever have service related issues here. The pork and beef as always good. I no longer like their beans, they taste like they have changed. I never eat the turkey because, well let's face it..... turkey isn't BBQ, it's turkey. This entire franchise went down for a while but seems to have recovered nicely. read more

We were seated promptly, wasn't very busy. The place was a bit of a mess. I haven't been to a Sonny's in about a year and things have changed. The baby back ribs seem to be getting more and more narrow, a full rack looks like half the size of what they used to be. They were good, the sauce was cooked on them nice. I miss the little loaves of cornbread that were loaded with corn and sweet, the little corn muffins aren't bad but those were better. Lastly, the beans had nearly no meat in them anymore, just a few bits and they used to have a lot. Everything was hot and fresh. Our waitress was okay, she was friendly enough but didn't check back until I flagged her down. She didn't offer us to go drinks, maybe Sonny's doesn't do that anymore either, but the tea was sour so we wouldn't have taken any anyways. What can I say, if you want authentic smoked BBQ come here! Love their baby back ribs, they literally fall off the bone and their wings are to die for and I'm a not a wingperson. I been here 4 times in the past week just to have their wings. Their baked beans are amazing too and love their pulled pork sandwiches. All their BBQ sauces are made in house and you even buy a bottle to take with you, my favorite is their smoking sauc. I here the other night when I dropped my child off at the YMCA camp in de Leon Springs. I had the lunch portion of baby back ribs with a side of broccoli and green beans and it was awesome. The service was great food was great the management even stop by to see if everything was all right I like that when that happens. When I pick my son up on the following Friday I asked him if he was hungry and he said he was starving so I said great let's go back to Sonny's barbecue and see if it's as good as it was the last time. Well it certainly was I had the full rack this time same sides of broccoli in the green beans is a resume. And I had a two-for-one draft beer my son had the half chicken he chose french fries then mac & cheese for his sides and he had a lemonade. Worst experience ever for a Sonny's BBQ. Ordered the B.O.M.B. sandwich came out on regular hamburger bun with spooned on Mac and cheese not fried Mac and cheese as the menu says. Guess Direction's on how to make this New menu item must have not been read. Management didn't seem to concerned response I was given is not enough people order it to order the Mac and cheese patties. Then why sell this sandwich? Never offered to make anything else just that's it. No sorry but he did manage to take it off the bill guess he is used to that. Would not recommend this place to anyone. Normally I'm happy with Sonny's. Today? Not a bit. I got the BBQ salad with grilled chicken. I paid about 11 bucks. I got some grilled chicken (extremely dry) and lettuce. No onion straws, no cucumbers. A dab of cheese and I'm not kidding I could barely see the cheese. About 3 kernels of corn. A a tomato or two. Worst. Salad. Ever. Omg. 4/1/15 Was April fool day! Around 9pm, ordered at the bar, pulled pork, garlic bread, crinkle fries and baked beans. In 3 minutes got my order, the food was not hot. Fries under cooked, garlic bread flat, no taste. As I pull the pork apart, found something that look like a booger. I set it aside of the dish. 3/4 of the order remains. Just before finishing my beer, the check was ready. Never will I return here or any BBQ place. How do you stay open? I will warn others not to eat here! read more

I am giving the stars for the salad bar. It was fresh, well stocked, clean, and delicious. They've got lots of selections also. That being said, we were very disappointed that they didn't have any turkey. How do you not have a main part of your menu at 4:30? I got the pork 3 ways.. sliced, ribs, and pulled. Eh. It was ok. My fries were wiggly, not crisp, but I think I was mainly still just blah about not having turkey available, as it was our main reason for choosing Sonny's over other places in the area. Just moved back to deland from port orange and this location compared to that sonny's is no where close. The portions are smaller, Bread is different, and they do not offer the kids special. Sad to say I'll now have to drive to port orange every 2 weeks for some good bbq. read more

This isn't our first time here and won't be our last. As far as chain restaurants go this one's not bad. The endless salad bar with a side of meat for an extra dollar is the deal of the day. It also comes with choice of soup and garlic bread or corn bread. The potato soup came out quickly and was piping hot, and was not bad for something that actually tasted like it came out of a Cheney Brothers truck. Our server wasn't quite on the mark as I'd hoped for but was friendly enough. The salad bar was fresh and plentiful and in the end there was enough food to take home after we finished. Went to Sonny's tonight with every intention of getting the all you can eat meals. We were given new menus which seemed to have fewer selections and higher prices. I love Sonny's. They are the best BBQ as far as I am concerned. This location was in a town that has virtually nothing else. As far as I'm concerned, Sonny's is all you need. Good tasty bbq! We enjoyed the salad bar complete with fresh greens, potato salad, seafood salad, beets, Fixings, dressing, etc. The red neck egg rolls were off the hook amazing! We enjoyed the brisket ( a little dry but nice and tender), ribs (St Louis and baby back) and the kids liked their chicken fingers more than elsewhere we have been this vacation. This is not what I would call authentic BBQ My wife and I had the turkey plate and pork plate. Had no smoke flavor and the turkey was processed meat.
