This is by far my favorite place in Buckhead, There is nothing about here that I do not like, the line sometimes can get long, but it is so worth it! Get the 12 dollar meal, you get everything with it! You can get it to eat here or to go. The cookies are delicious, and everything else is so good, soups, salads, sandwiches, everything and anything is a 10! I worked in Chuckhead most of my working life and used to occasionally pick up soup from Jenny. In the beginning it was tasty, but as my taste buds have matured I find it a pain in the butt to even get in this joint. The soup is under seasoned and over priced. Have eaten three times at the History Center location. I had high hopes but I have to say the enthusiastic staff was the highlight. The space does not have enough tables for the amount of traffic. Plan to wait a long time at lunch. The food makes me think of a funky little restaurant in East Atlanta. The menu of the day is "let's throw it against the wall and see what sticks" often this means weird combinations that end up bland and it's pricey. I wanted to like you but not happening. read more

I went to Souper Jenny for the very first time on Monday and I'm happy that I finally tried it because it is good, flavorful soup! The Tuscan Chicken was excellent - lots of large chunks of chicken, a good amount of veggies, and great flavor. Just one bowl was enough for my entire meal at $6. I also got a bowl of chili to go for $6. I do think that's a little on the high side for a small bowl of soup to-go, but they are very filling soups, so yes you can make a full meal out of it, but I do admit it is a bit expensive for soup! I also agree with everyone that the parking spaces are way too tight. I arrived around 11:40am and I only had to wait for about 5 minutes to be served and I easily found a table inside the sunny and cozy seating area - it was a lot bigger than I expected after reading many of the reviews on how SMALL it was - I was surprised to see that it wasn't really THAT small. All of the other items on their menu looked extremely fresh and tasty - the salad looked great and so did the mushroom and chicken entree and the desserts. If you like soup, you have got to check this place out - I think you'll be pleased. read more

I used to love this place. I went with my husband and 2 little girls last night for grilled cheese night and it was terrible, The grilled cheese was so over-buttered that you couldn't taste anything but butter. My 4 year old loves grilled cheese and wouldn't take a 2nd bite. The soup was OK, not great and the other grilled cheese was also not good at all. My stomach has been aching since last night. Again, I normally love Souper Jenny but was really disappointed last night. Bummer. read more

I rarely comment on food shops but I have visited this sandwich shop when I'm in ATL. The chili is the best thing going for it. The old location was the best as the staff seemed more relaxed and friendly. Can't say so now. Prices seem higher and service is slack now. Thought it may be a bad day but 2 times this trip and it's seem normal now. I'll try next time in town. My new favorite brunch spot! BTW, I'm seriously NOT a person who cares about healthy or local, but in THIS case, I think it only adds to the quality. Even the coffee is amazing, and I'm really particular about my coffee. Pastries wonderful, bacon awesome, husband enjoyed his quiche, smoked salmon thing, grits yummy, bet the steel cut oatmeal is, too. still not finished, resting between trips (HA!), but no doubt it's all great! The huge spread includes beverages all for $15. Oh, credit cards now accepted, too! Ambience is great, wish there was more patio seating. Fresh tulips on the tables! Even has a cute kid's corner and high chairs. We came at a busy time, so had to ask for more coffee mugs and the forks had run out, but they got right on it. I have enjoyed my dining experiences at Souper Jenny.. The Turkey Chili is the bomb! Chunks of ground turkey meat and tons of veggies, it is simply delicious! My only complaint is she only takes cash, and it is a splurge for my pocketbook. A simple meal for a family of 3 could end up costing $45, by the time everyone gets a soup, sandwich and drink. I really wanted to like this place but....long line to wait for the cafeteria-style food at 1:15pm so we figured it had to be good. sandwiches were made up ahead of time so the bread was SOGGY and unappealing and the veggie sandwich sort of tasteless, the soup was so-so. I moved to Atlanta in January and was lonely, missing home, and in need of some good comfort food. I found that and much more at Souper Jenny. I have eaten the $12 lunch combo over 20 times since then and not once have I had anything that disappoints (their menu changes daily - one of the greatest things about this place). The neighborhood feel of the restaurant, the gorgeous pictures of Jenny, her friends, and her adorable little boy adorning the walls, the fabulous food made from local ingredients, and the charismatic, beyond friendly staff have all kept me coming back. The place has a truly positive energy - the staff have such a zest and passion for life (as does Jenny) and the food is made with l-o-v-e. Please remember, those of you who balk at a $12 lunch - not only are you getting great soups, sammies, salads, cookies, rolls, and fruit - you are supporting local agriculture and artisans. Much of their fruit, veggies, and yummy preserves/jams are locally grown and made! Tip: come early (11 - 11:30) for lunch to beat the midday crowd. You can also opt to come later (1:30-2), but oftentimes they will have run out of something very popular on the daily menu by then, This isn't all bad, though because then you may be forced to try something completely new and fall in love with it. They also do not take credit - there is an ATM in house that is spotty at best (sometimes doesn't work, sometimes takes 20 min to work), so best to come armed with cash. Read through Jenny's cookbook "Souper Jenny Cooks" while you're enjoying lunch or make yourself comfy at the giant wooden 'family-sized' table (always adorned with fresh, lovely flowers) and meet some fellow soup lovers. Overrated and Inconsistent. This place is a mixed bag. The soups are good but sometimes they are not even hot enough. Especially when its cold outside you wouldn't want your soup to be lukewarm! Food is again hit or miss. Some of the food has been prepared and sitting at the counter throughout the day so its not even fresh, made to order and tastes just like that..Had some vegetarians and vegans with me who were highly disappointed. They said they had better Falafel warp on a cart than this cold ( who serves cold falafel ??) substandard warp which did not even have hummus in it! I noticed that the guys working there are pretty cool and will help with your requests, The women -at the counter , on the other hand seem to hate their job..IMO And the whole ATM conveniently located in their restaurant..lol.I personally don't trust cash-only places. Places which accept plastic usually have their books clean.. There are much better places to wait in line on a Saturday for brunch/breakfast...this place is not that one. read more

Every time I come here, my lunch is awesome! I always get the $12 lunch meal, and usually end up with some sort of salad and sandwich. The summer is the best time to come because there are less soups and better sides (like fresh fruit salad with honey and greek yogurt). It sometimes is packed inside (filled with many stay-at-home moms during the week), but facing the crowd is worth it. I adore the food from Souper Jenny. The soups are incredible, and I love the other menu items (sandwiches, wraps, salads, cookies, etc.) just as much. A few years ago, I would have given it 5 stars, but the value isn't there anymore. When I moved to Atlanta in 2005, you could get a bowl of soup, a salad or sandwich, a drink, a piece of fruit, a roll, and a cookie (i.e. LOTS of food!) for $10. It was Jenny's famous $10 lunch, and it was an incredible deal. Well, over time, the $10 lunch became the $11 lunch. Then the $12 lunch. Today, it's the $14 lunch - an increase of 40% in just a few years. As a small business owner myself, I understand that rising costs can be difficult, but owners have to be creative in saving money. Raising prices substantially isn't creative in the least, so I do find fault with the owner in that respect. I'm always looking for ways to cut costs, maintain quality, and avoid price increases; it's too bad that Jenny hasn't done the same! In summary, great food, but very high prices, so I rarely eat there anymore. If you do, remember it's cash or personal check only - no credit cards. read more

Although the food is terrific and everyone is very nice, it truly is the least kid friendly restaurant I have been to since having children over 8 years ago... which was actually my last time at Souper Jenny in 2008. My 3 kids (aged 3, 5 and 8) and I were visiting the Atlanta History Center yesterday. We decided to have lunch at Souper Jenny. They don't have a kids' menu, but they do offer peanut butter and jelly. So as long as your kids aren't allergic to peanuts and they like this one choice, then you are fine. As I stood there in line with my 3 small kids scanning the restaurant, panic starting setting in because I did not see an open table. How was I going to carry food for 4 people and search for a table with 3 kids at the same time? As soon as I saw one open up, I left my place in line to take my children there and left them to go back in line. Not sure what I would have done if I had had a baby, 2 yr. old and 4 yr. old. Would I have left them alone at the table? What option would I have had besides leave? As I ordered my food, I asked if they had drinks for kids. The lady replied, "We have tea." Really? Are there really parents out there giving their 3 yr. olds tea? Perhaps, but I was surprised of that answer and I am not one of those parents. It was obvious they were not in touch with kids. Then she started placing all of these individual bowls and plates on the counter. Unless you are an octopus, I am not sure how I was expected to carry all of these to the table without making many multiple trips. At least I had already picked out a table and I didn't have to add that to the stress and chaos. So I kept having to reach around the next customer who was ordering in my multiple trips back and forth to the counter which I felt very rude doing and I am sure she found it uncomfortable as well. As I left, I found a mom with 2 small kids in line and told her I would give her my table. Her response was "Thank you and I am NEVER coming here again." So here's the deal. I have learned since having children which restaurants are good to take children and which ones are bad. This is why this was only my 2nd trip back to a Souper Jenny in 8 years. However, if you are going to place your restaurant in the Atlanta History Center which is visited and attracts families, especially families with small children, then you really need to make some changes. Or if you don't care and frankly don't want to attract families with small kids, then no worries. read more
